There's probably a thread on this already...

Anyway...

I was listening to the MSO cd and thinking: "What is everyone's favourite sung phrase ever?" It can be live (give info where and when) or on a cd.

The one I'm thinking of now is on the live MSO cd on "For Crying out Loud".

The way Meat sings: "Love" at 06.49, with that vulnerable sounding edgy bit at the end of the word while he is pronouncing the letter o->v is just beyond believe. It makes "I love you" sound so REAL. It had me in tears tonight. So much delicate honesty, with hardly any backing at that point.
It's just miraculous that someone can sound like that I think. For me it sums up SOO much emotion, it's just hard to discribe. Never knew one sounding word could have sooo much impact to be honest.

Anyway, i'd be interested to read about other people's favourite Meaty phrases.

Recorded I really can't say off the top of my head, but there are three moments from live shows that stand out in my memory.

1987 on the 20/20 tour promoting Blind Before I Stop at Newcastle City Hall. Meat threw the microphone to the floor of the stage and filled the CIty Hall with the line "I can see Paradise, by the dashboard light" with his unamplified voice.

2006 at Mannheim two days before the RAH show, I was lucky enough to be standing right at the edge of the stage during Bat and despite the full on soudn that is the band and the vocals through the PA, I could still clearly hear Meat singing the lines from Bat Out Of Hell into his mic.

2007, last night in fact at The Point. At the end of Objects when Meat was singing the final "Objects in the rearview mirror may appear clsoer than they are" refrains, as he slowly dropped the mic from his mouth we could still hear him singing.

Those moments will live with me forever.

My pop-pop told me about a concert he went to in Allentown in the late 80' and saw meat. From his account Meat stopped in the middle of Modern Girl and brought a blond women from the audience up on stage. He told her "Once a beautiful bond girl had a modern Ass" and looked at her boyfriend in the audience and said "Well i wonder if you two have Modern sex". Find it hesterical

hmmm....interesting topic.
Never really thought about that though.
One thing that comes to mind right now (doesnt necessarily have to be THE best) is the "you dont love me no more" in not a dry eye.
It sums up all the pain of this song, and sounds nearly like crying.

Have to think about other ones tho.

For CD recording it has to be Did I Say That at 5:25 "And I Wish That I Could Take It All Baaaack" I adore this song anyways :) Gonna think about the live ones though...

Off the top of my head...

EVERY SINGLE line in Everything Louder than Everything else...I mean...

Wasted youth is better by far than an old and productive age...how much better can it get?

If you want my views of history
Then there's something you should know
The three men I admire most
Are Curly, Larry, Moe
Don't worry about the future
Sooner or later its the past
If they say the thrill is gone
then it's time to take it back
If the thrill is gone then it's time to take it back

This is just priceless...

I think Steinman is the only contemporary composer whose lyrics are as great as his music...

Ah, funny enough we had this discussion in the bar at the Ibis when most people had gone to bed, and Sean (Son of Meat Loaf) knew just the line I meant!! There was one line from 23rd May concert at Wembley, during Anything For Love where Meat's voice / emotion really hit my chest and caught the breath in my throat.

Usually, I can't pick anything exceptionally good or bad from Meat's singing - I wouldn't know a bum note if it jumped up and smacked me round the face, but there was just something about that one line and the way he sang it that got me...... dare I say it, the nearest I could imagine to a musical orgasm?!!

from that song it had to be
"I'm gonna take you in the backseat now and slowly drive you home" for me, just love the way he does that line.

'And the last thing I see is my heart
Still beating
Still beating
Breaking out of my body and flying away
LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL'

There's a few for me:

The duet part in the middle of Dead Ringer For Love, especially "You got the kinda lips that do more than drink... you got the kind of mind that does less than think" LOL

The whole "when the screws are tightening" section and the ending of I'm Gonna Love Her For Both Of Us. So much emotion and drama and power!

The lines "the seconds go on for ever, but the third and the fourth ones are even better" from Good Girls LOL.

The whole "for the good of the..." mid section of Bad For Good, especially the "for the good of one helliuva night" bits - WOW!

All the rockier parts of Blind As A Bat, but especially

I'm not afraid of the the truth no more
I'm not afraid of the lies I hid
I'm not afraid of the past of my sins
'Cause I paid for the wrongs I did

Just awesome.

Sorry, I could go on forever! (But not for 3rds and 4ths)

The slower "for the good of some..." on that version is fantastic.

On the "Meltdown" show, during "Bat" when he does the softer, slower " I'll come crawling on back to you" is great too.
