View Full Version : Meat - A 'B' List celeb???
Am sat here mortified.
I've recently bought the new book entitled 'The Diana Chronicles' by Tina Brown, and am wading patiently through it. Imagine my surprise when i came across this...
Quote..
'..In 1987, the extent to which they (the royals) had succumbed to the seduction of TV became disastorously clear when Prince Edward secured the participation of Princess Anne and Prince Andrew in a cringingly undignified BBC celebrity game show, 'It's A Knockout', to raise money for charity. The end was laudable enough, but the means were lamentable. On a muddy field in Staffordshire, royals comepted with B-List celebrities such as Meatloaf, Tom Jones and Pamela Stevenson to pelt each other with fake hams, chase each other through tanks of water and play games dressed as enormous chess pieces and vegetables...'
Since when was Meat a 'B' list celeb??? And since when did they spell his name as all one word???:evil::evil:
Does anyone recall Meat taking part in this? I have seen some clips of the royals doing it's a knockout, but don't remember seeing Meat on it at all.
Yeah Meat was there! I remember watching it on TV and not seeing a greast deal of coverage for the big man, but he was certainly there
I'm more shocked that they put Tom Jones as B-list...
Given I was 1 at the time I didn't see it, but I've seen pics of Meat in his blue and silver (if I remember rightly) costume stood with Fergie...the pic has appeared in several of his tourbooks
Is that the one that created all the controversy about him and Fergie hitting on him???

Did she?
I remember watching it....... the media slated the whole idea, which in my opinion was uncalled for - I think for the first time the younger generation of the royal family were prepared to show their 'human' side.

Meat Loaf is definitely a B-list celebrity, whether you like it or not.

I am not too sure what a B Celeb is, can anyone tell me???? (holiday in spain - great !!)
It's a crappy measure of how famous/successful/popular a celeb is...I guess someone like David Beckham is A list then they get progressively worse!
I rmemeber watching it at the time (although I wasn't an obsessed fan at that stage!) and Fergie kept calling him 'Meaty'. I think he refers to this at the end of his 'book'.
The show was certainly good for a laugh though!!

David Beckham is as laughing stock here as he is over there...and certainly not A list here at all...
More like...let's see...Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, etc. are A-list here...in short people who have VERY successful contemporary careers...

Here the measure of an A list celebrity is PROFITS...if the star produces PROFITS...then they are A list...cause everybody wants to make money...so everybody wants them...
If the album was number one...................

Yes...but that was just an example...I've explained how celebrity is rated here more or less above...
It's all subjective anyway really ... we all have our A, B and C list friends ... the A's are the peopel that we must have at our party, the B's the nice to haves and the C's are those who just make up the numbers. My A list would be completely different to someone else's.

I have a feeling our very own Susan ( anyone for a brew?) Yates took that picture :-)

Don't forget also that 1987 wasn't exactly the peak of Meat's career. Maybe after Bat 1 or Bat 2 were released he was A list?

The words: "If I become hip, shoot me and put me out of my misery." spring to mind. :))
It's not about art...it's business...

This all depends on what is currently meant by A & B lost celebrities.
Many of todays so called A list celebrities are people like Paris Hilton, a person who is more famous for being "accidentally" filmed having sex than for something she has really done or Victoria Beckham who was never a really good singer and her only real talent is being a footballers wife.
However on the so called B list you do indeed find people like Meat, Tom Jones, Elton John and many other people who are famous for having a real talent.
Bearing this in mind would Meat really care that he is referred to as B list??? I think not

I'm going to agree with RM on this one. Yeah, he's a B-lister but hey there are many on that list. In my eyes and other people believe most people don't belong on that list anyway. BTW Who makes up these A-list and B-list things anyway? Here's my question If paris hilton is an A-lister why is it so important to be on a list that few who are on it don't have talent anyway? :??:
I have a feeling our very own Susan ( anyone for a brew?) Yates took that picture :-)
No way! Oh that's brilliant...though why was I shocked?!

I think their human side is different to the general definition of human.
Why do we all worry so much about celebrity? I think it's nuts to be honest.

Have you ever been to tmz.com I can't believe we go off about who's dating who and all other crap over here. Look at and it made me sick about hiltons arrest cause she had it coming but how every news show was talking about it. I mean come on we got 3 shows the insider, Entertainment tonight, and Inside edition telling us all the same junk that the other show said before that. That's why I love watching the news and local stuff. I don't really give a hoot about celebrity news really, honestly, and I don't buy those stalker papers either don't support stuff like that.
