Anything for Love
Rock'n Roll Dreams come true

Bat out of Hell
All coming back to me now

Infos about the show (only German) can be found here (http://www.wdr.de/radio/wdr2/soundfiles/376701.phtml) and the livestream here (http://www.wdr.de/wdrlive/radio.phtml?channel=wdr2). The quality is not the best, if anyone's interested I'll record the show for you in best digital quality. ;)

Would be nice to see/hear any preview in advance of the formal issue. Especially since the full dvd is issued close enough to the 2nd leg to warrant putting the disc away for a few weeks so as not to take away from any of the shows that will be seen in Oct/Nov.

Ohh that's a point...don't want to spoil second leg having seen a recorded show two weeks before...we'll have to listen :p

yes please record it and maybe someone can upload to the internet or something like that. Would be great to hear how it sounds. If I ai't working, I might try and listen online...

Is it this sunday - 9 Sept or the sunday after ?

I tried to translate this info and this is the best I got:

WDR 2 SOUND FILES CONCERT (SUNDAY, 09.09.07 - STARTING FROM 23.00 O'CLOCK)
"The 30-jährige anniversary of its success album “asked out OF bright” celebrates Meat Loaf in this year with a large world tour. Recently it led it also to Cologne, where WDR 2 presented its concert in the Cologne arena. On this route the singer, who is in certain way more an actor, plays Songs of his success album as well as the later continuations from the years 1993 and 2006. Approximately 10,000 fans visited alone in Cologne the live-performance of these “ask Trilogie”. For it and all those, which could not be thereby, there is an addition on Sunday in the sound files. We play some highlights of the route from a Mitschnitt, to 18. March with a concert in London developed".

RadioMaster
06 Sep 2007, 00:04
it's this sunday, 9th

The text doesnt contain any new info, just mentions the 30th anniversary of BOOH, the two sequels, the big world tour and that he's just been to Cologne, nothing more.

just finished.
it hurts me to say it but it was bad. Not really the worst I've heard but far away from good.
Dont understand, if they have the opportunity to fix the bad bits in the studio, why they dont do it.
To be honest, if it was only for the vocals, I wouldnt see any need to buy the DVD. :(
They really would have gone better with recording the RAH show. Even the wembley shows were way better than this.

well I thought it was good personally. Is it me, but I was listening via my headphones and I thought the bass was quite heavy.... don't know if thats due to listening to it online and only @ 32 instead of something like 192, I don't know....

Can't wait for the dvd. What also is different, is that unlike the MSO dvd, which was studio edited quite alot so I believe, inbewtween songs, you could hear bass, guitar plucking, prob just them tuning or something, quite russly - guess that's all about recording live, you exspect that from a live show! :-)

All in all, I thought it was good, vocals were good, well, I thought, hey I would think meat is very good all the time even if he was off tune :-) :-)

Meat Rocks! They shoudl do something like this is the Uk to promote the new dvd, would work big time! I loved Blind as a Bat :-) and you could hear the crown cheer on RAR Dreams towards the end, where I guess the pyro's kick in :-) COOL!!

Think I'll check early tomorrow morning before school to see if you have uploaded the songs RadioMaster as I bet yours is better quality than my recordings :-)

Meat sticked to his promise to stay away from studio-overdubs. Brave, honest and rare. Makes this one a different cup of tea than most other "live" DVDs these days, with all the ups and downs that come with that decision. I can already imagine some comments on rockman, but to us it should be great to have the reall thing.

Anything For Love is the traditional version (not the modified one performed later on tour).
From those 6 aired I prefered the non-standard songs RnR Dreams (with sax solo and big finale), IACBTMN and Blind As A Bat.

as promised:

A radio broadcast does not make this recording copyright free.
If you show me WDR's permission for you/us to distribute this, I'll restore the links.

wasnt able to get them uploaded on a 'normal' server, but I hope this will do.
Have fun!
(I'm off to bed now after 2 1/2 hours of working on this)

Thanks Sir RJ

Having heard blind as a bat from the hamilton show i didn't think they captured it as well live as they managed to on the album.

I still stick by that on here...starts off really well but Meat doesn't sound well at all after that...the music on the other hand is good.

Oh my god ... it's really horrible how Meat's voice lost his power. For me it's a very sad moment to realize that fact.

why not, just wait for the dvd, have a listen, maybe several times (in 5.1 surround perhaps) and then, make an informed opinion on the performance.. just a thought

I'm making an informed opinion on the audio that was aired. What's wrong with that?

duke knooby
10 Sep 2007, 23:21
absolutely nothing, thats your informed opinion on what you heard broadcast, which may sound quite different to what the dvd will sound like, or indeed sound exactly the same. we wont know untill we hear the dvd. all im saying is, this isn't the best way to judge the dvd, when we have yet to hear it. (bit like trying to judge a (good) cd on a shitty cheap yellow pack cd player, its not necesarily a good representation of the cd/dvd is kinda what i'm trying to say)

Sorry but, how is saying 'I hope the video is better because sad to say the audio isn't much' "Judging" the DVD......? The only thing being judged there is the quality of the audio. If you actually read what he said!! I haven't heard the audio yet but it just struck me as a little 'hillbilly' to write what you just wrote.

I agree that the audio isn't a full reflection of the dv, but with that said this show was broadcast to a reasonably big audience in germany and was not just some bootleg that has come up on the internet.

If it was meant to provide a platform for the European tour then I'm not sure it did the job, but then i'm only coming to this conclusion having only heard Blind As a Bat.

I liked the MSO dvd and didn't realise that parts of it had been overdubbed, but i guess it's not a surprise. It seems to me they could've done the same thing for this dvd but hey maybe they will.

What i could tell in Blind as a bat was that parts of Meat's original vocal, during the chorus, were in the background. Again it's something that happens a lot, listen to any live version of Living on a Prayer in more recent times and you will the same thing with Jon Bon Jovi.

i just cannot understand people who want meats voice overdubbed on LIVE dvds. People, lemme tell ya something: if you want that, just watch the original videos of the songs, dont watch a damn live dvd! Yes Meat like most of the artists when you see them live sometimes misses a note or two, and due to extensive touring his voice has changed, but that guy still has breath to let those words out and boy can he put on a a great show (but never as good as the one I saw in 1994, in my opinion).
So, people, respect the man, and respect the fact that Meat wanted an honest dvd with no overdubbs, what's wrong with you people! Just listen to the cds if you want clean sound with a pavarotti voice! Live is live people. And Meat, if you are reading this, you still kick ass and thanx a LOT for being HONEST with that dvd.

I think Meat sounds pretty good on this live show except for IACBTMN. He can't properly control his voice at the start and at the end of the song, while the middle is not bad. Other than that there is hardly anything to fault in my opinion. Bat stood out quite a bit (band sounds fantastic with super drumming at the start). Probably the best live version I've heard since MSO.
This I think came quite close to how things sounded at RAH, though I still would have preferred a release from that show. Overall I think the production sounds great and can't see why people would think Meat has lost his voice based on this. If you compare this to the Ken Bruce show from last year I think this is a gazillion times better.

Based on this show, recorded early on in the tour, I can't either. Based on the two shows I saw in June, I can.

I think this summons it up pretty well, and yes especially compared to Ken Bruce. I think he sounds a lot better in this release than a lot of the MSO, especially R&R Dreams, which I thought was woeful on MSO, this one is performed far better. Anything for Love was far better too than MSO and the World Tour 2003 Bonus CD that came with CHSIB.

I think this is as good a live recording we'll get from Meat now without overdubbing. It's certainly far better than the 2003 official tour recordings, especially the production too, think it was Kasim that produced them, everything about them was bad i thought. Looking forward to this release.

a funny side note:
The presenter talked a lot about Meat being in Cologne last june, and as being so successful, returning to our state, to Dortmund in October, BUT she didnt say one word about the DVD. lol

Some of the stuff I heard of Meat from June was the worst singing I've ever heard him do :(
I hope he will sound like he did on this recording in October / November as I am thinking the European touring days are drawing to close.

Well i can honestly say that i would not base my opinion on an audio radio version of the upcoming DVD.(i have heard the radio version)
I will wait to see the DVD,then decide what its like, see being the operative word for me.

As for seeing Meat, in May every show for me was awesome, and i did not see much wrong with Meats performance,he missed a few notes,so what.

I have listened to anything and rock'n' roll dreams yet and it isnt that bad!
IMHO it isn't that bad how some saying here. I have already listen to worse performances of the big man. I have no problems with small overdubbing, but the german download release of IACBTM was too much overdubbed.
I prefer the MSO much more than the storytellers dvd and I never had the feeling that the MSO was overdubbed:shock:

I thought they were all excellent recordings, except maybe Blind As A Bat where you could hardly hear what was being sung at times - it was loud, but sounded slurred. That may be just because it was streamed and mp3d though, so best to wait to see what the final release is like.

I guess the thing is, a smallish band will never be quite the same as the MSO, but Meat sounds terrific, so hopefully it will be one helluva show!
