Apart From Meat Loaf what is the best concert that you have ever been to?
You can include anything from small club, Arena or even Festivals.
Mine would have to be
Guns N' Roses - Leeds Festival 2002
Paul McCartney - Manchester MEN 2003
Manic Street Preachers - Cardiff Millenium Stadium 1999/2000
Fun Lovin' Criminals - Manchester Life Cafe 2000

 APART FROM MEAT LOAF (sorry,I had to stress that part  ),the best gigs i've been to were by a band called Profesor Longhair.
They play a lot of R&B (real R&B,not the rubbish that passes for it these days).Wilson Picket,Joe Cocker that kind of thing. They have a fantastic brass section and the lead singer has a great voice 8) .
I have been very lucky in my life to see many rock and roll shows. I will stress NO ONE HAS EVER PERFORMED AS WELL AS MEAT! Okay, we all all know that. But if I was to list the performers that gave it all I would say, Joe Cocker, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, Jethro Tull (in the 70's) and Leo Sayer(opened for Joe Walsh, he sucked). That is only the top few of all the shows I have attended. These performances really stuck with me for many years and I still enjoy the memories!

I've been lucky to see concerts from every genre from Rock, Country, Gospel, Classical..you name it LOL But.. apart from Meat. There are a few that stick in my mind..
Kasim Sulton.. Twice in New York City, Once in Philadelphia :) Hey.. that goes without saying.. He's the Best! :)
Cyndi Lauper Nov 13, 1983.. my first rock concert.. Belated Birthday Present from my parents :)
Paul Young November 5, 1985.. My actual 15th Birthday again a gift from Mum and Dad :) He was really awesome.. He's also worked with Patti as part of the SAS Band.
Can't exactly remember the dates of the others..but some of my favs were..
Ty Herndon... see him numerous times! Ladies..if you haven't seen this man perform Joe Cocker's "You Can Leave Your Hat On" OMG!!!! He does things with a hat that...well..never mind  www.tyherndon.com. He's gorgeous!! Popular in Country Music scene.
Garth Brooks twice and met him once :) No words can describe.. he's not a concert.. He's an experience!! :)
Billy Ray Cyrus too many times to count  He gives the best hugs!
Huey Lewis and the News..AWESOME drum solo at that show. :) and that was me and Mum on a Girls Night Out :)
Power Station.. (Duran Duran spin off Band) What teenaged girl wasn't in love with John Taylor in 1986?? :P
My goal is to hopefully see Sir Paul McCartney and Billy Joel before they decide to retire form touring!!
Thanks for letting us share.. Great topic!! :)
Love and Laughs..

Well, not really to a live concert then Meat Loaf live concerts!!
Yeah, went to a Gospel concert in 1998, that was really cool!! But no other live concerts.
Well......heard Lenny Kravitz concert in the Goffert in Nijmegen, just heard it, and that was great.

First I have to say that the best concert I have ever been to was Meat in about 1990 at Jannus Landing in St Petersburg, Florida. All concerts since have been measured by this and none have lived up. 'nuff said
Other great concerts I have been to....
Indigo Girls 1989 Tampa Theatre, Tampa Florida (I know Kasim has played with them- I wonder if he was at this show)
Billy Joel 1987 University of South Florida Sundome, Tampa, Florida (my first concert ever, me and all my best high school friends slept on the sidewalk all night to buy tickets)
Paul Simon 1990 University of South Florida Sundome,Tampa, Florida ( I again slept on the sidewalk all night to buy tickets, the night before my college graduation- I was a sleep deprived zombie as I received my degree!)
James Taylor 2001, Ice Palace, Tampa, Florida
Ladysmith Black Mambazo, 1987, Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater, Florida
*Sherrie
Let's put it this way, of the shows I listed, the performers gave about 90%, but Fire Ball you always give 110%. Above and beyond any performer I've ever seen.
ROCK ON FIRE BALL!!!

I also saw The Who in 2000 at Sheffield Arena, they were great but I'd have loved to have seen them around the same time as Fireball.
The Who's Next album is a classic so it would have been great, especially with Moon The Loon on drums!

 Hi Heat.
Carol was a Boyzone fan too. That means we have great conversations whenever I bring up the fact that they couldn't sing No Matter What to save their lives  .
Gina,I don't know about Duran Duran, but I do know that Carol had a slight crush on a famous Rock god who just happens to visit this forum  .(oh my god, she's going to kill me when she sees i've written that  ).
Hey Meat,I was suprised that you never mentioned Joe Cocker.I remember reading in To Hell And Back that you really liked him.
I was even more suprised that you mentioned the Backstreet Boys 8O .
Am I the only person on here who has never been to a live concert?
I've never been to a concert either. :(
I have a far far worse confession to make.
I have only been to 2 concerts in my life. The first was "Welcome to the Neighbourhood" and the second was...
(this is so embarrassing   )
Chris De Burgh in Birmingham 2001!!!!!

If you want to see a lot of bands at once then I would suggest you go to a festival as there will be loads of bands on all day - I've seen over 100 bands most of them at festivals.
The closest I've ever been to a live concert was watching my former high school's talent quest. I was a judge one year. I also watched some school gospel choirs compete once. Really good!
I've only seen one concert and that was wednesday. So I never went to another concert than a Meat concert. But Meat is always great.

Well i've only ever been to two concerts the first and the best was Meat Loaf at Hyde park in london last year :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
The second was a Moody Blues concert also last year. it was a small venue so it was really good! even though we were at the back we were quite near the stage:D
I've been at least twice every time meats toured over here since 1983 including Royal Albert Hall, Hyde Park, Hammersmith Apollo lost track now but Meats the best - also seen All Motown Stars Phil Collins The Who
Millie Jackson Issac Hayes could go on and on - even appeared in a Meatloaf video recorded at "the Brixton Academy Bad Attitude" arranged through the "old meat loaf club" for fan club members only - have also appeared in a "Hard Days Night" through the Barbra Speake School of Dancing which I used to attend in the early 60's now I feel old  I count myself as being very luckily -

How did you get in the Brixton Academy video?
How did you get in the Brixton Academy video?
We were sent info from the original fanclub inviting us to apply for invites for a member plus one guest as extras for the video Bad Attitude - it was a brilliant time and if you look closely you can see my red blouse - and me leaping about - mind you was younger then
Really memorable concerts .. and I don't have Fireball's gift for remembering dates (although I can find my own Easter eggs) .. the Beatles .. including the final rooftop jam in London!! .. early Stones .. Queen .. adored Freddie .. the Nelson Mandela tribute in London .. Elton John .. another great showman .. Loved every Meat concert I attended .. but Storytellers I ADORED .. and most memorable probably New Brunswick last year in my first really great front row seat.
Caryl
The Beatles :??: To tell you the truth... i hate the beatles.... sorry to say. But what a bunch of *Piep, piep, piep* LOL
I really hate their music, but maybe it has to do with the fact that my neighbour loves them so much... and plays it all day....... OOOhhh, and she went to Mccartney, who thinks he is god, and now i've to hear it all day long... And if i want to tell about ML... well....
But a Queen concert, man, wish i could have seen those guys live!!
Wow .. between us we've covered Boyzone to Chris De Burgh with Fun Lovin' Criminals and Paul McCartney in between .. but I managed the first to be knocked!! Still the Beatles were a watershed band in the UK .. perhaps most memorable because of the way their music grew and developed .. between them so much talent, and so many songs that will stand the test of time .. Hey Jude, Strawberry Fields, Yesterday, Lady Madonna, Penny Lane, Let It Be, Come Together .. the list goes on, and there's even two covers there from Meat! I count myself very privileged to have been in London the day of that final roof-top performance, which was a piece of history .. and then John Lennon went on to produce songs as wonderful as Imagine, a haunting song that will remain one of the all time greats I think. Just as people say they will always remember where they were when they heard Kennedy had been shot, I'll always remember the profound shock of hearing John had been gunned down. And we miss George .. My Sweet Lord.
Oh .. and forgot to include Eric Clapton in my memorable list .. Tears of Heaven, Presence of the Lord ..
Probably the most electrifying, apart from Meat, were Queen though .. Meat and Freddie .. now there's two guys always able to strut their stuff and own the stage, the audience and the night !!!

I never told you about this. But before coming to the conclusion that Meat is 'as real as it gets' I've explored many avenues.
Started when I was about 9 years old, went to see ABBA, up to this day I still love every band I ever 'bothered' to go see. Then The Beegees, yes, John Travolta give it to me! After that Kool and the Gang and Mr. Richie came along, stayed for many years too. Went to see Miles Davies, Wet , Wet, Wet, ( I like it that way), Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, UB 40 and many other bands, now if you can tell just WHAT it is that makes me tick, I will welcome that!
But for the best concert I've ever seen, besides Meat, that would definately be The Dubliners about 2 years ago in Rotterdam! I can not even begin to tell you just how great they are!
Two shows I would love to see in my lifetime, Barbara Streisand and Bette Midler, oh yes and while I am at it, TINA, no doubt!
Great day to you,
Mariella

What I've seen? Let me see...
Apocalyptica (2)
After Forever (5, 1 of wich opening for Nightwish)
Within Temptation (2, 1 of wich opening for Orphanage)
Nightwish (1)
Meat Loaf (4, 1 of wich NotP)
Chris de Burgh (NotP :-)
Savatage (2)
Autumn (2) <-- opening for After Forever
Whispering Gallery (2) <-- Opening for Within Temptation
Screen (2)
Arjen Anthony Lucassen's Star One ft. Ayreon (<-- this rocked sooo much)
Orphanage (2)
Trail of Tears (1)
Therion (1)
Bløf (3)
Queen (well, not really... Roger and Brian performing with Patti and some more people in Amsterdam)
Skik (1)
Vengeance (1) <-- opening for Savatage
Blaze (1) <-- former singer of Iron Maiden, opening for Savatage
Vicious Rumours (1) <-- opening for Savatage
Picture House (1) <-- opening for Meat
Opeth (1)
Lacuna Coil (1)
Sentenced (1) <-- opeing for Lacuna Coil
+ some support acts I forgot because they s*cked...
But what the really good ones were? 1st time I saw Savatage, Therion, Star One, Nightwish was cool, Apocalyptica (4 Fins tortureing their cellos) and the first time I saw Meat stand out.
I've also seen some gospel concerts!!! Real good was that!!
I've seen the Beach Boys, Collin Raye (love the man & would love a pic w/him), Trick Pony (such a hoot to meet but Keith still owes me a guitar pick), Diamond Rio for my birthday last year, and many others (yes, mostly country) but I have to say that my best one was seeing Meat in Denver the last time he was here. And I'm not saying that because you post here Meat, it's just that I didn't get the ticket from the station I worked for (so I paid for it) and I had waited so long to see you in concert that it turned into the most awesome evening when all was said and done. You didn't disappoint me in the least and I was off in my own little world the whole night. Working for a radio station I get the chance to see a lot of concerts so I'm looking forward to the summer and the concerts we've got lined up. So here's to a great summer! :D

Iv bin to a few, thought that they were crap!! im looking forward to meats concert tho!! iv never bin b4, i was too young to go to others, n i didnt have a computer so i cudnt find dates.
Gosh where would I begin Beatles, Four Tops, Temptations, Issac hayes Phil Collins, Millie JacksonThe Who, Status Quo, so many Meat concerts would have to count sweatshirts and t shirts to confirm. Supremes, Electric Light Orchestra, Jimmy Ruffian, Edwin Starr, Luther Vandross, Long John Baldry, Chris Farlowe, The Rolling Stones, The Yardbyrds, probably think of more later
Every summer the oldies station in Denver has Kool Concert and has a lot of the old acts. My daughter wanted to go a year or 2 ago so I got tickets. We missed most of the Tokens but she got to hear "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" so she was happy. She loved the Crystals and they put on a great show. I've always loved Gary Puckett but she didn't. The Four Tops were absolutely awesome tho' and had the crowd up and on their feet and singing to beat the band. I grew up 65 miles west of Detroit and grew up on CKLW and Motown so that was a blast. (I looked over and found my 15 year old singing every word with the TOPS and THAT threw me for a loop!) Chuck Berry was the main act and was such a disappointment. It was so bad that most people left. I felt bad for him in a way but I stayed for about 20 minutes because I wanted to see the immortal Chuck Berry. It wasn't that he was so bad it's just that you could tell that he was on something and there were so many dead spaces in his part of the show and he fired one of his band members and then rehired him back by the end of the show . . . it was just bad. And a real let down after the TOPS had gotten the crowd so pumped up. This year it's a 2 day show and I can't wait tho'.
Probably the most electrifying, apart from Meat, were Queen though .. Meat and Freddie .. now there's two guys always able to strut their stuff and own the stage, the audience and the night !!!
I would have to agree Caryl. I never got to see Queen but the thought of Meat & Freddie on stage would be a night to remember!!!

Tough one.........
Tina Turner did a great gig in Groningen, she was great the audiance s**ked....
Micheal Jackson was great, this concert was a long time ago, before everybody started dissing him....
My 2 Meat concerts were great, lovely memories.....
NOTP is always great (especially with meat..) (Night Of The Proms)
John Miles still loves his "Music"
Every concert has great memories to me, so I'll just treasure them all.
Asha
I only been to a few concerts. 2 of them in Oslo with Meat (in '90 and '94 I think). The one in '90 was so bad I actually wanted to destroy my Meat Lp's after this. (I'm so sorry I had to say that) But I didn't destroy anything, and the last concert I saw with Meat , was the best. I'll be a fan forever after this :D
The best consert apart from Meat though, was a with TV2 in Denmark April 2003. TV2 is a Danish pop/rock band that only sings in Danish(I think)
Else I,ve been to a Mezzoforte(funkband from Iceland) consert.
I hope I get to a Meat consert in England later this year

Like Chris, my new hubby and me went to a Chris de Burgh concert! Not ashamed to admit it - it was wonderful, from some stately home in Yorkshire, twilight, warm air, picnic on the grass, stage beautifully lit, and fireworks. Very romantic!
For those that don't know of him, he writes most of his own stuff, and many songs are long, split into 3 parts and tell a story. Lady in Red is NOT typical of him.
Other excellent concerts we enjoyed - Andrea Bocelli in Manchester last year, and several unforgetable ROY ORBISON concerts before he sadly died - one concert left me sobbing, I wanted more so booked for the following night in another town! Roy and Meat are my favourites, for differing reasons.

Yes Dottie, some shows can be pretty dissapointing. That is a shame, specially when you have been waiting for such a long time.
How was Luther Vandross :??: Went to see him once, thought he was brilliant, in his style of music.

Way too many but here's a synopsis of some of the highlights:
#1 Meat Loaf
#2 Meat Loaf
#3 Meat Loaf (yep...only saw him 3 times)
#4-36 would be KISS (yep...seen 'em 32 times so far)
#36-#55 would be Cowboy Mouth (from New Orleans and yes, seen them 19 times)
#56 Neil Diamond
#57 Neil Diamond
#58 Neil Diamond
#59-#69 Melissa Etheridge
#70 Culture Club (pre-break)
#71 Culture Club (reunion)
#72 boy george
#73 boy george
#74 willie nelson
#75 Trans-Siberian Orchestra -Just saw them the other night and they completely blew me away!
I think I'll stop with my top 75.....if I try to list them all, I'll be here all night (nor do I think anyone wants to commit to reading my "way too long" list).
Bottom line....Meat has and will always be #1
Jo (yes....I am a concert junkie!)
Meatloaf - Hyde Park 2000
Guns N Roses - Wembley Stadium
Guns N Roses - Wembley Stadium ( the following year!)
Madonna - Wembley Stadium ( I will never forget the bed scene! happy days)
Big Country- Numerous Places
Oasis - Wembley Stadium
Guns N Roses - London Arena (Ill fated comeback tour)
Was going to Meat in Nov! so I will have that pleasure in Jan.
Seeing Elton John tomorrow night I'll let you know what it was like,to be honest I'm not looking forward to it one bit!!
I think the best gig I've been to for pure showmanship was Gary Glitter, about eleven years ago. He was fantastic. :P
Got to confess this.
At uni my now ex-girl dragged me to see a Westlife gig!!!
I was 19 and by far the oldest person in the room!!!
It was dire. The support acts (2 of them) performed then ten minutes of westlife and then more support group.
But then again, if you never see a bad concert, you can't appreciate the good ones as much!!!
My best in order are
Big Country (Any at the T&C Kentish Town)
Queen, Quo, Big Country at Knebworth (forget the fist support act)
Quo (All of them)
Magnum at Hammersmith Odean (as was)
Springstein at Wembley
Worst:
By far was Prince at Wembley in the early 1990's

Heather.
I have seen C De B many times and Lady in Red and a Spaceman came travelling are certainly his worst. He has some fantastic stuff like A Spanish Train and a few of the 3 parters are superb. I saw him once at Bournemouth and he was brilliant, we were standing room only but that meant we were 2 feet from the stage. This meant that when he asked for requests he heard us and did what we wanted (Broken Wings) and there was a good banter going on between him and those of us shouting :D.
This was back in 1987 8O

I was lucky enough to see Thin Lizzy in concert.
Phil Lynott really knew how to work a crowd.
Most disappointing I guess was Rainbow, spoiled by the fact that Ritchie Blackmore, for all his talent, just seemed so "up himself" that night.
The best bit of the C de B concert was halfway through when the band went to get changed and Chris was just sat on a chair in the middle of the stage with his guitar and asked what we wanted to hear then did a few songs.
Also when he sang Patricia the Stripper. That was a cool sonng.
I think the CdeB song Rosanna has a certain topical subject ;)
best gigs ive been too are
meatloaf
wet wet wet
roxette
def leppard
david essex
enrique iglasias
robbie
tina turner
marti pellow
