For my school unit 3 drama exam we had to come up with a drama and ours is about the war and for a scene we decided to have it as a movement piece with music playing over the top.

I wanted to know if any of you knew of any nice pieces that were written about the war.

It can have lyrics like ballads or be instrumental.

I couldn't find any so I thought I'd ask around - after all there's no harm in asking.

Thanks

Ehm... you know of this thing called Google, right? Try a search for "Songs about war" for starters.

Other than that, Springsteen's version of Edwin Starr's "War" should be all you need.

I did google but didn;t find much but I'll try Bruce's song.

might I add - the music is being played over a funeral scene if you get what I mean. So maybe a nice soft song but I will suggest these to the others though.
Thanx

Which war Ross? You said "the" war but didn't say which one! :?

Anyway you could try these:

Masters Of War - Bob Dylan
With God On Our Side - Bob Dylan/Manfred Mann
Eve Of Destruction - Barry McGuire
Dancing With Tears In My Eyes - Ultravox
Enola Gay - OMD
Stop The Cavalry - Jona Lewie

szakl88's suggestion of Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits would fit the funeral scene very well.

There are loads of war songs out there!

where have all the flowers gone - pete seeger
zombie - cranberries
that new mattafix song about darfour (sp?)
universal soldier - donovan
child of the universe - barclay james harvest (this one would be very good for a funeral scene)
knocking on heavens door - bob dylan, guns n roses, eric clapton and whoever else did it
imagine - john lennon
give peace a chance - john lennon

youd have to specify the style of music youre looking for: rock, pop, folk, country, there are countless songs about "the war" out there.

As has been suggested Edwin Starr's War (Springsteen's version is the best) is a good one.

Springsteen's Born In The USA is a good anti-war anthem, and there are plenty of others in his back catalogue.

 Personal favorite war song is an Irish song called The Green Fields Of France.

As you can see, it would suit your funeral idea as well

Great suggestions but now our drama teacher is saying that maybe instrumental pieces would be suitable than songs with war.

try carl orffs "o fortuna" from carmina burana, used in many war movies.
not sure if itd suit a funeral scene though.

Personally, I like No Bravery, from Back to Bedlam by James Blunt. Soft, slow, very moving...
