The house-rockin', pants-droppin', earth-quakin', booty-shakin' (you know the rest :-)) E STREET BAND!!!!!

I learned three things:

1. Heaven's Wall sounds awesome live

2. Tom Morello is an absolute beast on the guitar http://www.ravetalk.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/notworthy.gif

3. If you plan to stage dive (especially if you're not the star of the show), you'd better first make sure people are going to catch you!

I saw Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers in Pittsburgh; some guy named Bruce opened for them. They must have really liked him, because they kept him on stage for most of the show, and even played some of his songs. One of them was called "Hearts of Stone" or something- a guy named Ed (I think) played the saxophone: http://youtu.be/ehMjgM5Z2oA

They let the Bruce guy close the show, too- I really liked the song, I think it was called "Incident on 57th Street": http://youtu.be/3ZFBn1Vx9iQ

The show was great, and they did it all over again the next night, with different songs.

I'm going to see Barry Gibb tonight! :-)

As a Birthday surprise I had tickets to the final night of We Will Rock You at the Dominion theatre London. A twelve year run was ended after over 7.3 million people had been through the doors with Brian May and Roger Taylor joining the cast for encore renditions of Bohemian Rhapsody and The Show Must Go On.

To be honest this was an amazing night so full of emotion, seen the show a few times after MLUKFC's rock for 3 days in May saw a few of us seeing this sandwiched between two Meat shows but this topped them all.

Pic after the speeches, may release the encore vids at some point as well

Saw the amazing, multi-instrumental Jake Clemons last night. The guy is incredible, can sing, play the guitar, piano and of course the saxophone and he can work a crowd, not only that he is the most genuine humble, soulful man you could wish to meet. I defy anyone to not have a good time at one of his shows.

His band were incredible too, the bass player was out this world with a stunning bass solo at the end of the show. Got meet Jake afterwards, so that's two of the extended E Street band ticked off the list!

I don't think he is, which is probably why he hasn't been there since (I think) the Born in the U.S.A. tour. Speculation was the Japan stop would be tied to another possible Aussie swing. The 2016 Olympics could potentially affect touring plans that year, depending on whether or not Bruce's daughter is going to compete. I could see him doing South America around that time for that very reason. However, I think any 2016 plans are dependent upon what does or doesn't happen next year.

So, last Friday night, I saw http://www.therushforum.com/public/style_emoticons/default/2.gif, for what might possibly be the last time ever (the band has said this is their last tour "of this magnitude", whatever that means). :(

I tried to put the last part out of my mind, and just enjoy the show, which was amazing! :-)

Being it's their 40th Anniversary tour, the setlist coverered their entire career, in backwards chronological order. As the show went on, the roadies changed the set behind them, until by the encore, they were playing in a "high school gym" setup, with a couple of amps propped up on chairs. Cool concept!

Nickelback last month, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Well, you're not supposed to like Nickelback. ;)

From a recent (hilarious) review:

"Approximately 7,000 people who probably don't hate Nickelback attended the concert, 3,000 less than the group's previous visit in 2012. Whether those 3,000 have grown to hate the band could not be confirmed. There is also no proof of correlation between the smaller crowd and the influence of the popular subjective notion that the band is terrible. It may just be that Nickelback's star is dimming now that it has achieved remarkable success - 50 million albums sold, many unavoidable hit radio singles - which only in the rarest of instances can be maintained in perpetuity."

http://www.mlive.com/entertainment/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2015/02/concert_review_nickelback_rock.html

In all seriousness, I read that they had to cancel the rest of their tour because Chad Kroeger needs vocal cord surgery. Sad for their fans.

Last Friday, I went to Summerfest in Milwaukee, and I saw Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes live for the first time. But I mostly went for Keith Urban, and he was SO good! My favorite of all the times I have seen him! :D

I saw what's left of the Monkees May 28th !!! I had a fabulous time... The hits just kept on coming !!! ... Micky and Peter... sound great... have a great group of musicians backing them... There's a huge screen that playing videos from the show and from their lives ... It was a lovely trip down memory lane. I've been a fan the entire 50 years they've been around... Got lots of great photos !!! ...

I have a ticket to see Brian Wilson with the 50 years of Pet Sounds tour in September. Excited to see that, too !!!

Bruce Springsteen at Coventry and Wembley. Great shows. Coventry probably edged it for me as a more intense setlist without pauses and much better sound.
Coldplay at Wembley Stadium. Not a huge fan of their music but an amazing production. Lightshow with computer controlled light up wristbands stunning. Club Wembley is a nice upgraded area in the stadium if you have the chance getting a seat there.

I just saw the last night of Bruce Springsteen's 2016 Tour in Boston- all four hours and two minutes of it. :-) Unbelievable setlist for the hardcores- he played ALL of the epics. Well, except for Racing in the Street, but I saw that one two weeks before in Chicago, where I had incredible luck in the pit lottery and ended up front and center. I even got to tickle his Fender. ;)

In between those two, I saw Brad Paisley, which was a fun show.

Don't feel bad, he almost got dropped here a couple of times, too. Honestly, I wish he would stop crowd surfing- it's making me nervous! :?

You're right- longer isn't always better, though I hate it when I just miss a song I wanted to hear. It's even worse if I find out he had it on the set list, then switched it out for something else.

The Piano Guys at The Royal Albert Hall.
Easily in my top 5 of best shows ive seen.
So much heart, fun, laughter and talent.
Probably only second time I've teared up during a concert. The end of second set with bagpipe players was just too much. Amazing Grace has that weird innate power whenever I hear it. It really does something I cannot describe.

Out of the 4 concerts I've seen at RAH, Meat still reigns king but the Piano Guys are easily second highest.
I've seen all my favourite artists at RAH. Very lucky and privileged.

Sad London had another bad night. I hope everyone is and stays safe. I'm giving city visits and concert ticket buying a rest for now considering what is going on.:(

Piano guys videos are brilliant, I didn't even know they were touring, but it's great to hear they are as good live, and you had a brilliant time.

Regarding cutting back on city visits and concerts, I suggest don't. No one should have to accept terrorism as an everyday occurance, or just a fact of the times we're living in, but you shouldn't let it get in the way of going about your everyday life, as best you can, and enjoying what you enjoy.

Many big name performers wouldn't play over here during the troubles, but Meat did, time and time again, and the audiences always came, and always had a great time.

But I've rambled off topic again.

Always liked Nena. Not many good female rockers have toured so extensively and consistently as her.
Weird that outside of Germany (and part of Netherlands I guess) she is only really known for 99 Luftballons / Red Balloons and no one really knows she is really a rockstar instead of a pop has been.

Really liked the Made in Germany song too. Cheesy but such a great patriotic fun song. And the absolute perfect one to start gigs of with. I think she should have kept it in her set for years.

I've listened to quite a bit of her stuff over the years but yet to see her live.

It's been a good month, three of my very favourite singer songwriters doing shows very near, within days of each other...

David Ford, did pretty much a solo gig, just him, piano, 4 guitars, drums, harmonica, percussion, and his loop machine... absolutely superb gig, I'd forgotten how good he is on guitar.

Foy Vance, Foy's full band, as part of his current tour, really enjoyed it, good performance

Finally, Duke Special, doing a career retrospective... primarily himself on piano, the brilliant Ben Castle on saxophone, flute and clarinet, and the spectacular Chip Bailey on drums, stumpf fiddle, cheese grater and whisk, squeaky toys and general percussion duties, with some special guest performers... A magical 3 hour show!!

Three fantastic gigs!

Wasn't as good as it used to be.. Unfortunately.
We gave our other tickets away. And that was a huge step for us. :/

I missed it over the summer in the UK for various of reasons but it doesn't really seem like I missed much.

It never really looked good to me to be honest. It seemed very much like what We Will Rock You was like, one of the last shows I've seen (last year). I enjoyed that to a certain extent but the story had so many missed opportunities and stupid unlike Queen / rock things, it seemed too much like a panto and didn't get to the heart that we can hear in Queen's music in my opinion. It could have been so much better with a better, simpler message. The electric guitar reveal at the end and Scaramouche being able to play it made no sense. A simple: guitar is found and falls to dust but the characters realise rock is in your heart message and you don't necessarily need to play it yourself to enjoy would have fixed that. It seemed so obvious to me. The disconnect between the fantasy -metaphor story line, the timeless music and the audience just really sucked and to me it seemed from everything I saw from the Bat musical, that would be exactly the same. :-(

I know people use the term "jukebox" musical to sort of defend why a musical doesn't have a decent story or connection. To me it's just an excuse not to go the extra mile to provide something that will be memorable and heartfelt, just like the music always was. Something like Back To The Future the musical has it for sure! A much, much better musical book writer with a better imagination at the helm, clearly. I'd rate BTTF the musical a 9 and We Will Rock You, based on the performance I saw, a 4 or 5 at best.

And I don't know who the female vocalist was, but it was a ~~~~ing awesome performance, she owned that stage and sang her heart out. I have to find out who she was, and listen to more of her stuff.

It was one of those moments where the decision was, if we don't leave now, we'll miss the last bus... but couldn't leave
and missed the last bus

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. Hyde Park (both nights)

Epic, rocking, superb. Excellent 3 hour sets.
As good as I ever saw him at his best and really brought things full circle with a similar approach when I first saw him live 20 years ago. I found the random requests stuff disappointing at Wembley in 2016 (Coventry 2 days before was superb) as it made things quite hap hazard from what I remember.

This was a far more controlled, professional, solid set with no stopping for almost 1 1/2 hrs into the main set on both nights. And after an emotional 15 minutes reflecting on age and life and leaving us with a brilliant message, he goes straight back into rocking.

Absolutely phenomenal for Bruce's and the band members' ages.
I hope he tours into next year or perhaps comes back in 2025 for one last farewell with E Street.
But if this is it, he definitely left us on a high.

A massive renewed interest in his music after that.
Wow.
