good interview...Like RJ i think that's the most open I've heard be about his age...I would hope that'll mean that he will take his shows in the same way and by that I mean not trying to hit the same notes as 1977...or feeling that he has to justify that. I'll take a great performer first and foremost

I think after Newcastle he just realised that he's now 60. I had the feeling that up to then he tried to act like he did 10/20/30 years ago, and that might be the reason for the desaster people had to face there.

I hope that now he realises that he has to find a different approach for his tour, maybe chose a few easier songs, etc.
And as it looks now he seems to do that.

The mind is able, but the body is not always,as we get older ,unfortunately..lol..nice to see that Meat is looking so well though..

LucyK!
15 May 2008, 17:40
Totally agree RJ. I've not listened to the interview yet so excuse me for repeating/contradicting anything...it's definitely a case of the mind is able but the body isn't, which I think is why he reacted the way he did at Newcastle. Meat is a singer and actor and that's what's inside him, and it must be so frustrating that that's who he is but he physically couldn't put it out...like you say RJ hopefully he'll embrace where he is in life and enjoy it!

I am afraid that not many people will agree with me but I will add my two cents anyway. I do not intend to offend anybody, I just want to express my opinion on this issue.

I wonder why people are so obsessed with that age thing. It's very easy to elaborate on other peoples' age and how it might influence their life and work while not being in their shoes.

I have seen people being older than 60 doing amazing shows and I know that some younger people would not be able to perform as much and in the way Meat does.

Of course time / business / thousands of shows have taken their toll on him and no one can go on like that forever but currently, the guy looks better than he did before and he seems to feel good.

I believe that it was a combination of several issues that caused him to leave the stage in Newcastle. I do not consider it a "disaster". Sometimes you succeed, sometimes you fail - that's what life is like. One of a few unfortunate incidents one has to deal with from time to time. I guess you remember that he had problems when he was much younger, too, but he overcame them.

Failure can even be quite useful because you can learn from it and the conlusions you draw might help you to become successful again. The more obstacles and set-backs you are confronted with the more you gather experience.

Yes, many of his songs are not easy to perform and his voice is not what it used to be but would anybody advise - for instance - an opera singer to sing "easier" songs? Is Meat Loaf meant to sing "easy" songs? An alternative would be to interpret songs in a slightly different way but here the age issue indeed interferes, I have to admit. But it's not Meat Loaf's age that might be a problem but that of the majority of the people in the audience - mostly older folks who wanna hear the old songs, expecting them to sound exactly like 15 or 30 years ago. Fans are often rather conservative people who don't like change or experiments.

In my opinion, blaming certain issues on Meat Loaf's age is just too simple.

I apologize in case I should have annoyed anybody with this. ;)

Everyone is entitled to there opinion and there say..

Watching Meat perform at the RAH(( which was not that long ago really )),in my opinion was the best i have ever seen him,so you are right age is not an issue in that respect..a lot of younger performers would not have been able to perform as good as that or have the energy to do so...

1 out of three ain't bad. Lol.

To me he sounds so much more relaxed this time round. He does not have to promote an album and constantly tell the whole "It's all coming back to me now" story.

I said on another thread and i'll say it here, i would not like to see him do so called easier songs (not that i think many of his songs could be considered easy anyway lol)
Age is a factor that everyone has to deal with no matter what they do for a living, whether they are a painter and decorator or a singer, so i guess the only thing he can do really is not do such long tours, which he seems to be indicating lately that he wont be doing.

When he collapsed with wolf-parkinson on the chsib tour at wembley, he came back for another show which far outshone any others i saw at the time so i don't doubt he will bounce back from this too.

He does a hell of a lot on stage compared to other artists, i dont think he would ever compromise on that so i guess we have to just trust his judgment on whether he feels up to it or not, he has looked better the week he was here than any other time i can remember for a good couple of years so i feel pretty optimistic for the tour.

As he pointed out, there are alot singers the same age if not older than him still performing great shows.

And yes barb, out of all the shows i've seen throughout the years RAH is one of the top few if not the best :-)

Hey Sarge :D
you're right - just for me ....
All I can say I don't care about his age I love to see him having fun, he' so relaxed and in such a good shape. I'm glad he's happy and to be honest: he's 60? His heart is much more younger - for that I love him :D
