"Gremlins" helmer Joe Dante is jumping into two horror projects: "The Hole," a supernatural thriller produced and financed by Bold Films, and "Bat Out of Hell" for Parallel Zide and VooDoo Prods.
"The Hole," penned by "Vacancy" scribe Mark Smith, tells the tale of two brothers who stumble upon a mysterious hole in their basement that reveals their darkest fears.
Lensing is set to start in late summer.
Producers are Bold's Michel Litvak and David Lancaster, with Bold's Gary Michael Walters and BenderSpink principals J.C. Spink and Chris Bender exec producing.
"Joe Dante is a legend in the world of chills and suspense, and we know he will bring his unique twist to this spine-tingling script," Litvak said.
Dante helmed horror classics such as 1978's "Piranha" and 1981's "The Howling."
Bold is in production on Screen Gems' "Legion," starring Paul Bettany and Dennis Quaid.
"Bat Out of Hell," written by Drew McWeeny and Scott Swan, is expected to shoot later this year and centers on a hijacked red-eye flight that's carrying monstrous cargo.
Producers are Warren Zide ("American Pie," "Final Destination"), Jerry Daigle, Michael Arata and Ray Markovich with Craig Titley exec producing.
