View Full Version : MLUKFC Supporting Meat's Penalty Shoot
Many of us sadly won't have the opportunity to attend Meat's Penalty Shoot Charity Event (http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/north-east-news/todays-evening-chronicle/2008/06/05/take-a-penalty-against-meat-loaf-for-charity-72703-21028438/) but would still love the chance to donate towards such a worthy cause. The management team at MLUKFC have come up with a great way for you ALL to show your support , regardless of where in the world you live.
Details will be posted shortly so make sure to watch this space!
Diane
All the information you need to support Meat through MLUKFC in this very worthwhile cause will be posted on this site on Sunday.
Make sure to check in so you don't miss out!
My apologies if this all seems a little cryptic at the moment. It's the way it has to be for now, but all will be finally revealed on Sunday.

That's great Diane... You can count on me supporting.
Let's get this stickied so it's not lost!
MLUKFC Supporting Meat’s Penalty Shoot Out
Here it is …. MLUKFC’s fun way for everyone to be able to lend their support to Meat’s Penalty Shoot Out for the benefit of Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre and the Toma Fund.
We may not all have been able to place a bid for the chance of taking a penalty kick against Meat, simply because of location or other commitments, but we can still offer you a novel way to help him raise funds for two such very worthy causes.
This is your opportunity now to help support Meat’s effort no matter where in the world you are.
The management team of MLUKFC have decided to donate a large selection of our Fan Club merchandise. What we are asking you to do is take a good look at what’s on offer. The items are on sale at a fixed price and ALL the proceeds from the sale will go to Meat’s chosen two charities.
This will be your ONLY chance to secure a copy from avery limited number of the very special “5 TOURS PICTURE BOOK” which we published last year and distributed to our club subscription members. We have never offered this book for sale before. It is a large format full colour professionally printed book containing excellent quality photos from all Meat’s tours since the inauguration of the MLUKFC in 1998. Almost all the photos are exclusive to the MLUKFC and have never been published anywhere else. All our remaining stock of this book is being offered in the sale and because stocks are so limited we will allow only 1 book per person. We expect these to sell extremely quickly so would advise you get your orders in as soon as possible if you wish to add one of these to your Meat Loaf collection.
We are also offering a selection of our newsletters the “REAR VIEW MIRROR”. These are 28 page, full colour, professionally printed booklets containing exclusive photos of Meat and band members, interviews and articles.
There are T-SHIRTS, POLO SHIRTS and MUGS bearing the MLUKFC logo available too.
As a bonus the first 15 people to place an order will each receive a beautiful gold metal and enamel MLUKFC badge.
As a further added bonus EVERYONE who makes a purchase will automatically be entered into a FREE DRAW to win an AUTOGRAPHED “BAT OUT OF HELL III” CD signed by Meat at Manchester Evening News Arena last year.
Remember ALL the proceeds will go to two excellent causes. Postage and packing will be charged separately, at cost, and will be claimed by the club.
To make payment simple Fans in the UK can send a cheque. Anyone outside the UK can send us payment through PayPal.
Pictures and prices of all the items we are offering can be found here (http://www.mlukfc.com/cmps_index.php?page=charity). Please have a browse and make a purchase. You will have the satisfaction of having benefited the charities and have a rare item to add to your Meat Loaf collection too. You could even be the lucky winner of the autographed CD! (The name of the winner will be announced on the MLUKFC site after the sale has ended).
The sale will end at midnight on Saturday, 21st June, 2008.

I just noticed on .net that it said that bidding for the dead ringer for glove thing finished on the 15th - this isn't the case is it? Or am I getting confused - are the proceeds of this just going to charity without a bid being placed for the competition?
Placed an order anyway lol

That's right, the bidding for the penalty kicks did end on the 15th June. We thought a merchandise sale would be a fun opportunity for all Meat's fans who can't be in Newcastle to take a penalty kick to be able to show their support to Meat and the cancer charities who will benefit. All the proceeds from the sale will be going to the charities.
Thanks very much for your order.

The special edition Picture Books are selling very fast so if you want to secure one of these then it's advisable to get your order in quickly to avoid disappointment. This will be your only chance to buy one of these books as we are donating all our remaining stock to the 2 cancer charities.
We have also received donations which have been generously given without purchase. :D
Many thanks to everyone who has made a purchase or donation so far. We are very grateful and happy that this Fan Club can show Meat some support for his fundraising effort.

No look in trying to find the ITV news (any help?), but I have found a clip on youtube though of Meat at the stadium: http://youtube.com/watch?v=6itmxOHtLgk
We have literally just walked into the house, we went out with Anji and M down the Toon.
I will post some more pics when i get turned round.
Me and Stu were down in the dugout with Meat and all the tv, press etc. So we heard all of the interviews, Meat was hysterically, he runs rings round the interviewers. He was relaxed happy and full of fun.
The pic you see of me and Stu with him, i went over to sit down and said hi Meat its, he said "i know who you are" laughing as he said it, i pissed meself laughing, hubby smiled knowingly;)LOL...
Meat did say in one interview when asked the question how is your voice Meat, he replied, better than ever, he could do things voice wise that he hasn't been able to do since the 70s! So he is on top form.
We were down pitchside for ages, Meat was there at least 30 mins, before that we were interviewed by Geoff BBC North East News, so dunno if that will be on the telly. God knows what i sounded like!
It was great to meet loads of fans there, i did try and mug Glynis's son Michael for the goalie glove that Meat signed, but he was just too strong;)LOL...Glynis, great penalty and in a Mackam shirt;)LOL..
Hubby scored his, however i might add Meat stepped out the way;)LOL..Stu took the first penalty as ours was the highest bid, which is why we were allowed with the Press down onto the pitch to see all the interviews.
I think there will be some press coverage, thanks once again to all the members who donated to the worthy cause, let me tell ya Meat was impressed:)))
Will post pics etc later.
Can i just say Shearers bar food was shite, i did offer to help the waiter bitch slap the chef, strangely he didn't take me up on that offer.
Samcat, i saw the bench;)
I will post some video and more about what was said by Meat to the interviewers, he can talk for England, a bit like meself, i will post more pics and video tonight.

Great to see a bunch of familiar faces supporting these worthy causes. Meat was on form and is looking very well and very healthy. Although he wasn't fit enough to save my penalty. So I guess I can say that I'm one of the elite few from the forum who have scored with Meat Loaf :lmao:
It was great to see everyone from on here, and was fab to see all the well behaved children who accompanied their parents ... Anji and Casey, Chris and Georgia, Mummy Mouse and Neil ;-) :lmao:
Shearers bar was an education ... in more ways than one!
We're both looking forward to getting a decent internet connection in one of the many hotels looming in our future, that will allow us to see all the pics taken today!
As a final note I managed to have a chat with one of the charity organisers during the melee of the penalty shoot out, and she was over joyed by how much had been raised by fans who couldn't be there today and asked me to pass on her thanks in advance of them receiving the cheque!

Well that was a day that'll live long in the memories!!!!
Finally home so will post pics and vids when we've sorted the little camera queen out (just how many photo's did Casey get into???)
I passed on my Castle Howard tickets and T-shirt to the woman who set up Toma's charity in memory of her teenage son who lost his battle with cancer. I said if she wanted to raffle them or give them to a family whose child was battling cancer then that would be great:))

That was a very nice gesture Michelle .
Sorry to hear of the circumstances though.
Thanks Emma, my heart went out to this woman and what has happened to her, she is amazing doing the charity work, thinking of others even thou she has suffered a great loss.

 I did a little write up about the event (and the day in general) on another site i'm a member of.
If it's all the same, i'll just copy and paste it here
 So, stayed over at my parents Monday night as my mum was going with Jo and I to Newcastle to see the main man.
We get up a little later than intended, rush to get ready and head off to Lime St Station.
We manage to catch the 6:18 train to Newcastle.
Not a bad journey by train (certainly not as bad as the day before when I had to go to London and back by coach to pick Joanne up from her mums) and we arrived in Newcastle about ten to ten.
Went to St James's park first so we knew where the hell we were going, then wasted some time at the shops until we went back to the ground at 11:30.
We heads upstairs to the family enclosure, high above the ground and overlooking the pitch where meet up with some of our fan friends that had had their bids accepted.
We waited for what seemed to be forever, and every time the door opened we jumped a mile
In the end, myself and the other tobacco hounds went for a quick ciggie.
The nerves were a little on edge, and the heat in the room was not helping.
While we were gone, Meat was seen on the pitch doing an interview for the press (luckily mum got footage on her vid camera  )
A little more waiting ensued while we waited for Meat to come up to the family enclosure.
Then, the far door opens, and a familiar figure wearing a Newcastle United shirt walks towards us.
Thought i'd give Meat a welcome, so I started clapping and set everyone else off
The plan goes a little to pot here
We were all given number stickers to put on, and it's assumed that this is the order that we were supposed to shoot, however, Stuart (who's bid had been the highest at just under £2000) was selected to shoot first, and then it was just a case of people shooting in random order.
It was a far more relaxed way to do it though, and felt much better 8)
I was still a little awestruck (as I was the first time I met him) so have no idea how many people went before me.
In the end I was shoved unceremoniously by mummy in the back to go next.
That moment in front of Meat seemed to go on forever
Now although not a football fan, I HAVE seen penalties taken on TV.I've taken a few against my brothers kids as a matter of fact, and my batting average is pretty good.
I'd watched people in front of me take penalties, but then, stood in front of Meat, I completely forgot what the hell I was doing
The fact that the wall to my left was filled with press and TV cameras was doing nothing to make me feel a little less grounded either.
So, i'm stood in front of Meat, and I don't know what to do.
Am I supposed to say "Hi Meat" or "Hello Meat" or "Good luck Meat" or "nice weather today huh?" or am I supposed to just kick the fooking ball and get out of the way?
In the end, the little squirrel who was now at the controls in my brain opted for "Are you ready, Meat" before swinging my foot in the general direction of the ball.
Meat didn't have to try too hard as I wasn't exactly on target, missing the goal just past the post.
I immediately turned round and walked very quickly away feeling very embarrassed and feeling more than a little giddy.
Luckily, out of all the people who took penalties, only three people scored, so I shouldn't feel too bad  .
Unluckily, Jo was one of the three, so i'm never going to hear the end of it
Peter Beardsley was there to support the event, and a couple of shooters after me, Peter took some shots at Meat, who did a fine job of saving every one of them 8)
Meat then demanded Peter get in goal, which he gamely did and let Meat shoot some shots at him.
The press loved that part, especially when Meat got a bit over enthusiastic and started booting the ball blindly (think he liked my earlier shooting style and wanted to emulate it  ) and hitting more than one camera/reporter of the assembled press.
Then it was back to the rest of the folks still waiting to shoot.
One of those was Joanne.
I game her a cheer of encouragement, which was soon to become an even louder cheer as she took her place, kicked the ball, and sent it sailing past Meat 8)
I ran around to where shooters were coming around after taking their goes, and saw a rather extatic Joanne, grinning from ear to ear, and clutching the tickets and T shirt she had won.
I was given a sympathy T shirt
After everyone took their penalties, Meat announced loudly to the room that even if you didn't score, you would still receive two tickets for the concert.
I went back to the table and asked for my tickets to go with the T shirt
Meat then took the time to pose for photos with everyone who took part.
An official photographer was there to take the pictures, as well as people being able to take them on their own cameras.
The officially taken pic of Meat with Jo and I can be seen here (http://3400.e-printphoto.co.uk/icnew/index.cfm?z=z&y=y&p_id=8565349&c_id=92936&action=view)
While the one of Meat and mum can be seen there (http://3400.e-printphoto.co.uk/icnew/index.cfm?z=z&y=y&p_id=8565333&c_id=92936&action=view)
Peter Beardsley was also kind enough to sign a ball that Jo and I took to the event, which will be auctioned off at a charity event in aid of Demelza House that Jo's mum is helping to collect for.
All to soon, it was all over and time to go.
We left Meat sitting on a couch in the room, already halfway through another interview for the radio.
After the main event, it was off to Shearers bar, where the folks of the fan club had got together for a good post event natter.
Little walk around the shops, and it was back home to Liverpool.
Was a great day in aid of a very worthy cause, ans we loved every minute of it.

where on earth do i start  or how do i add to whats been said already??
there's no point in me describing what went on as others beat us to it lol so i'll just say it was soooo lovely seeing everyone and meeting some new folk too, Meat really seemed to enjoy it and was so relaxed about it all that i think everyone was able to make the most of the event, even giving some people (including Casey lol) more than one shot, he was very gracious to step out of the way when she kicked too lol. Absolutely chuffed to get a pic of Meat and Casey, never thought that would ever happen so i will cherish that always :)) (can you tell the proud mum?? lol ) she was so well behaved she really did me proud!!!
Special thanks to Stu and Chelle though, it was soo nice seeing you both and we had a great time with you guys!! Love you both loads and hope to do it again sometime VERY soon, you represented both fanclubs amazingly well, and i'm dead proud of you both!!! And luckily they must've cut the bit out where you sounded like a FW Chelle ;) so you were saved by some cool editing :p
I'm off to play with my camcorder now to see if i can shock myself by actually getting the footage off there and onto here ;)
A truly one off day and i am glad we went to the effort of the (i've lost count of how many hundreds of miles lol) extra mileage from london to take part in this. Thanks again to everyone else who went and made it even more fun :-)

Article in the Evening Chronicle
ROCK star Meat Loaf has donated thousands of pounds to two Tyneside cancer charities.
The entertainer has given £2,500 each to the Toma Fund and to the Maggie’s care centre.
He kept his word by matching the money raised at a charity penalty shoot-out he took part in at St James’s Park last month.
About £5,000 was raised from that event and Meat gave two cheques over to the charities for the same figure before his gig at Castle Howard in Yorkshire at the weekend.
It means both Maggie’s and Toma benefit by £5,000 each in total. “It is great, every penny counts,” said Andrea Thompson, organiser of the Toma Fund.
Meat said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Newcastle. I remember one person kicking the ball really hard. Maybe he was a Liverpool supporter.
“I wish both charities the very best.”
Last month we launched an auction where the highest bidders could take penalties against the superstar and, if they got the ball past him, also receive two tickets to his outdoor show at Castle Howard.
The shoot-out took place after the star said he wanted to give something back to the region after cutting short his last gig here due to ill health. We stepped in and suggested the charity auction.
“It is wonderful that Meat Loaf has done this for us,” said Frances Milner. “It was a terrific day and for someone as busy as Meat to take time out and also match the money raised for Maggie’s is wonderful.”
The Chronicle is appealing to readers to help raise £500,000 towards a £3m Maggie’s cancer centre at the Freeman Hospital, where patients and their loved ones will be able to get advice on coping with their illness. We also support the Toma Fund, which was launched in April in tribute to Jordan Thompson, who died from cancer at the age of 15.
Good on ya Meat, it was a wonderful day and a marvelous gesture:))

Fab pics :)).
I received the following this afternoon which I've been asked to pass on to all our members.
Dear All
Thank you all so much for your wonderful generosity in supporting our campaign to build Maggie’s North East. Your kindness is even more special when you realise that your generosity is because you couldn’t attend the recent Meat Loaf Penalty Shoot at St James’ Park in Newcastle upon Tyne.
I have to say, it was fabulous to meet Meat Loaf. He was a truly lovely gentleman. Everyone had such a lovely time it’s one of those days I will always remember.
When our centre is built, it will help thousands of northeast families to live all the trauma and stress a diagnosis of cancer creates: a part of that support will always be attributable to Meat Loaf and his tremendous UK Fan Club.
With many thanks and good wishes
Denise Heron

Stu is still trying to sort out the free pics you were supposed to get, but the EC are being a set of arses! They said you were promised a free photo shoot, not free photo. Which is utter rubbish, cos the article in the paper said free photo. Stu is speaking to a member of Meats team about this, as the EC are not budging with Stu. I wouldn't mind paying for my pic if i knew the money was going to the charity, but this is not the case.

Which is utter rubbish, cos the article in the paper said free photo. Stu is speaking to a member of Meats team about this, as the EC are not budging with Stu. I wouldn't mind paying for my pic if i knew the money was going to the charity, but this is not the case.
Completely agree Michelle! For anyone to profit out of this event apart from the charity is completely out of order!
I second that, we'd have had those photos ordered months ago (and probably ordered a couple extra) had the money been going to the charity, I don't know how they dare charge people off the back of it
Big thank you to you and Stu by the way Chelle, much appreciated

Sorry to hear this Chelle. I hope Meat's team can help Stu sort this out.

I received the following this afternoon which I've been asked to pass on to all our members.
Quote:
Dear All
Thank you all so much for your wonderful generosity in supporting our campaign to build Maggie’s North East.

Thanks for posting this Andy and very many thanks once again to everyone who made donations and purchased the merchandise donated by MLUKFC to help raise over £500 for the charities. :))

I think its a good cause I know I shouldn't say this, but you never know - anyone of us might be diagnosed and need treatment in the future! (god forbid)
Its one cause I will always support and raise for!! :-)

Totally wrong if they are going to profit out of the pics..as you say not so bad if the charity was getting the money..

just a question
was the scroll that was talked about with all our names on ever made?
The scroll was made up Siobhan and was ready to be given to Meat. Unfortunately, at the last minute, one of the people whose name was on the scroll decided they wished to remain anonymous. As I was away from home for the tour and didn't haven't access to a printer I couldn't reprint it and so sadly we had to scupper the idea.
The management team at MLUKFC offer their apologies for not being able to fulfil our promise.
Meat is aware though of how much his fans on this site raised and he is very grateful.
