Here's a recent interview with Meat that I just found on the web:

Meat Loaf Says English Festivals Are Stupid July 07, 2008 07:58:30 GMT

The legendary rocker stated to the press that he is disappointed with the fans behavior at festivals in U.K. and claimed that he won't perform in those kind of events again.

Legendary rocker Meat Loaf has revealed a surprising news to the press stating that he may not be playing in any music festivals in U.K anymore. According to the singer, the festivals in England are stupid because the behavior of the crowd that watch the event are awful.

Speaking to the press, the singer revealed that his decision to skip performing at festivals in U.K. was triggered by the fans' behavior at the rocker's recent gig with Jefferson Starship in the Queen Elizabeth's country. "We played with Jefferson (Starship) at one of those stupid English festivals, and I do call them stupid because people behave like apes who haven't eaten a banana in a week. I refuse to play them," he said.

However, he also stated that he would still play in U.K. but only if the venue is as good as his concert at Castle Howard. Stating his statement, Meat Loaf said, "I prefer venues like Castle Howard. It feels more like everybody is going to take a bottle of wine and a roasted chicken and pull it off like Henry VIII: 'Give me that leg woman...' It is a more carnival-like atmosphere, and I do like carnivals."

Meat Loaf himself is currently busy staging his European tour named Casa de Carne, which kicks off on June 27 in Plymouth England and scheduled to end on August 16 in Sjaeland, Denmark. On that tour the rocker will also be accompanied by his long time duet partner Patti Russo.

well no suprise after what people have been saying. The weather isn't Meats fault, hence the sound quality in some areas would be different I guess....

yes but notice this interview was obviously done before the show kicked off sso what people have been saying about the shows so far isnt relevant to his 'comment' in this interview.
Personally though i dont like the outdoor venues but thats just me, he does what he does and i make the most of what's offered.

When did he play a festival with Starship?

Reading 1998. So nice and recent then...

He got bottled off by a hostile crowd.

But it was twenty years ago!

Bah, I was doing so well! I blame it on the fact that I'm still in bed and haven't finished my first coffee of the day yet ;)

I might stay here 'til it's time to go to Nottingham...

Have to admit, I couldn't agree with him more and avoid festivals like the plague for the same reason.

Festivals are brilliant, the weather isn't always the best but they are a brilliant experience, Ive been going to festivals for the last 10 years including Glastonbury and if you can't enjoy yourself there then there must be something wrong with you?
Meats music has never suited a festival crowd, thats why he was bottled at Reading in 88 and Knebworth in 85.

 Meat has always said that you either LOVE Meat Loaf and Bat Out Of Hell, or you hate it.
So what's the point in him playing festivals where a large proportion of the people there are not his target audience and have come to see other bands.

Seems to me that Meat is already under enough fire from so called "fans" at his own concerts, so he'd be on a hiding to nothing playing gigs where people just want to see crap bands like Coldplay or Oasis :wtf:

hear hear.
I think many fans will think Meat Loaf is far too good to play at such busy festivals. I'd rather catch him on tour. I really wouldn't want to go to a flipping muddy festival.
