Monstro
19 Aug 2008, 21:27
All sorted today that Anji and I will have mini Monstro on the 17th of next month (four weeks away eeeek!!!!!).

As most people are aware we don't know the sex of the baby so we thought we'd have a bit of fun, guess the sex and weight. Easy to do, just post the sex and weight of the soon to be with us arrival and the person with the correct sex and closest to the weight wins a bottle of their tipple (if you drink malt you're screwed and you'll have to get used to blended lol). Tie break decided by who posted first.

Helpful hint!!!!!! Midwife measured Anji last week, first words out of her mouth was " big baby". Consultant measured Anji this morning, first words out of his mouth "big baby"

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit - lb's and ounces in this country where baby's are concerned lol

Thought the definite date would've given away the fact it's a caesarian, she'll have all the drugs she can handle lol

Some people use a date as an indicator of due-date and not a date of caesarian and even then the date of caesarian might be changed if the midwife thinks it's for the better.

What some Mothers don't realise with a caesarian is that it's major abdominal surgery and they try and carry on with everyday life after birth when they should be taking it easy. Make sure she takes it easy, NO DRIVING or the stitches might pop and you could be up shit creek.

Good man. Someone we know was driving 2 days after a caesarian and the stitches popped and she had to stay in hospital for a couple of weeks after that. All my kids were vaginal deliveries and it made me glad of being a bloke - OUCH!!! (legs-crossed)

How much paternity leave in the UK are you entitled to?

Pud

It's ok pud, i know from last time what a caesarean can be like, had to have one with last baby cos she was too big for natural birth, this is why we're going straight to it this time, i was in labour for 27 hrs last time before they realised i needed a c-section, that and the other risks invloved with natural birth after c-section are too much to risk it.

Do feel a bit robbed of the birth experience though if i'm honest

LucyK!
20 Aug 2008, 10:50
Really? It's so interesting that people feel like that whereas I'm the exact opposite, could handle raising a baby but I'd rather eat my feet than "have" it :?

djfierce
20 Aug 2008, 11:00
lmao i used to be exactly like that Luce but it all changes when you actually go thru pregnancy and bring that littlun into the world...something just clicks inside you...kinda hard to explain really but only then do you find out what unconditional love is.
The trouble with c-section is not only the risks as pud says its a major surgery and there are lots of things that can ho wrong, the list of things i had to sign allowing them to do if it doesnt go according to plan is an eye opener lol, but the bigger thing for me with casey was i heard her cry, saw my partner go off with the midwife but it seemed forever before they stitched me back up and i got to see her face :( i guess that's where i feel robbed and also not being able to hold her/feed her properly for a while due to pain from the stitches.

btw i saw the way you looked at casey ;) you're not so against kids as you make out i think :p

LucyK!
20 Aug 2008, 11:06
LMAO a person could be made of stone and Casey would still crack them, she's beautiful!!! We must send you the pic of her with her feet up and holding Chelle's mobile

I'm not dead against kids - worked with them for long enough - I'm just too selfish to have them!!! I couldn't cope being pregnant, the thought of giving birth makes me shudder...I think I think too much about everything I'd be giving up rather than gaining :? I'd be perfectly happy if someone made me a baby and gave me it, just don't want to "have" it

In saying that though *goes all serious for a minute* I'm saying that as a person who assumes that when/if the time comes I'll be able to do it all naturally and it'll be my choice, dunno how I'd feel if my "right" was taken away...

Let's just all get puppies

AndyK

20 Aug 2008, 15:16
Okay... I'm attempting to be scientific here...

Statistically, the older the father, the more chance there is of the baby being a boy, and second babies tend to be bigger than first babies... so my guess is: Boy, 9lb 2 oz... and I don't envy you carrying that weight around Anji! Luckily my two were both less than 8lb... just make sure you take the advice that's already been given with regard to taking it easy afterwards, let M spoil you!! Hugs xx

Everything is going to be ok...and although it's a surgery, there is still some comfort in knowing when exactly baby is coming.

That is what I am wondering about too ;):D

But: is there anyone on here, who can give me a little idea on the lbs.os thing comparing to kg to give me a chance too to join in here ;)

Good to hear you are allowed to work from home for a while after the birth, Michael! ....assuming you actually are going to make it to do some of that kind of work though....

Just checked Wikipedia:
it is true that the german and the briish pound have two differnt weights. The german one is exactly half a kg, although it's not an official unit of mass, while it is an official one, with a different weight, in other countries. Here it's only used colloquially (sp?). You order a pound of meat for example.

You order a pound of meat for example.

Ah, I see. Varies in the UK too. For example, if you order a pound of meat in Chorley you get 220lbs of lard instead.

MeatGrl1 - 9lb 7oz

Out of a combination of boredom and curiosity, I've put the 'guesses' in numerical order...and with apologies for taking so long to get around to doing this, I've stuck my vote in there too.

Anyway, I do hope baby isn't really that big...but above all, I hope that eveything goes well and smoothly and I really do wish you all the best...I can't think of two more deserving people (and I mean that in a good way - because I am incredibly jealous!!)...really really best wishes and I hope to see photos ASAP!!!

Kinda weird that I'm now counting down in hours and not months/weeks, just where the hell did nine months go??????

As soon as I get in tomorrow evening I'll start a thread with the all important first pics and a complete breakdown of the days events including how many times Anji says "you're not coming anywhere bloody near me again" lol

I've been allowed out to play tomorrow night to fulfill the age old tradition of wetting the baby's head (won't be soaked, just moistened as I've got to be up early to get back to the hospital) so feel free to join me in the Bat & Belfry as I sit there smoking my Cuban cigar (cheers Martin!!) with a whisky (cheers Em!!) and a "my god there's a mini Monstro" scared shitless look on my face!!! I'm sooooooo happy Anji knows what she's doing as right now I'm realising just how bloody little I do know.

Reading how excited everyone is for us has been great, Anji and I really appreciate all the messages and support (I know of at least two people who's phone bills would probably settle the debt of a small third world country). I think it was at Nottingham at the concert that brought it home to us, Anji had to sit down for a bit so left the barrier, I reckon the band must've wondered what the hell was going on as the majority of the front row had their backs towards the stage making sure everything was ok lol.

Many thanks to you all from both of us!!!!!!
