View Full Version : Question for admins
So...my computer at work kind of umm...whatever...looks like some kind of spyware made it in and doesn't want to get out. It automatically crashes all anti-spyware programs, etc...finally computer guy was able to install somehow Ad-Aware and it ran...found bunch of crap and nothing works properly anyway...time to change a computer but I think I will get it in my next life the earliest...
So...at this point my IE is working...kinda...I am actually able to log into some sites without any problems...not that I go to some crazy sites...I am talking company online banking, Netflix, stuff like that...
BUT...I can't log in here no matter what...I just can't...it appears to me...but mind yourself...it is just an impression that I get that when I enter my user ID and password...just as I press submit button...my password disappears...clean text box...dunno if that's possible but this is how it looks like...
Any idea if this is what is happening, or what, in fact, is happening, or maybe what to do about all this?
Thanks!
You tried clearing the cache and cookies?
If you suspect there's spyware on the computer and you're logging onto the company bank site and carrying out transactions then STOP. Don't do anything financial on the computer until it's been given a clean bill of health. You're running the risk of having access details to the company accounts stolen and hence the company accountbeing tapped into. You should isolate the PC from the company network until you've had it confirmed that it's clean.

I strongly echo Andy's comments.
If getting the PC clean becomes an uphill struggle, I suggest nuking it from orbit. i.e. Get the IT guy to re-install Windoze from scratch. Better that than worry about bank details etc getting stolen.

Wow...I don't know how I logged in but I did it...
I KNOW I have a spyware...and also does everybody else on the network...it is actually coming from our file server and everybody knows about it...
We're talking about the boss who mostly deals with the bank online and also downloads songs from itunes at the same time...
He also forwards to all of us e-mails containing viruses and asks us what this e-mail means - he doesn't seem to recognize the sender.
I don't do anything online in banking but only inquiries - not possible to do any actions with my login...in any event...I've described company's management above...
I started a stink and brought IT guy in...he expressed to me what he thinks about this company and their computers in no uncertain terms...
So...well...guess I am in for now...surprise...
Thanks for the suggestions...in a different company it would have been different...here...honestly speaking I don't even care if it crashes and burns...even in this economy with jobs shortage...
Now you're in just don't log out from work.
I love people like your boss ... they keep people like me in work :))

I have to log out because company's policy is to turn off all computers at night......don't ask...
Apparently I can only log in when I get into some open to the outsider thread and then click on reply...the login window that comes up then lets me login???? Whatever...
You have absolutely no idea what this company and this boss are...I didn't think people this stupid even existed...the reason he is still in business is that his father built a great solid company...so it takes some time to demolish it...but demolition is going pretty well so far...
Just close the browser window then turn your pc off, when you come in the next day and start things up again you should find that you're still logged in. It' snot good practise, and I normally wouldn't advocate it.
I wouldn't advocate it myself...what if I drop dead and somebody can login here instead of me and read this? LOL...
Very true, wouldn't want people reading here would we? :lmao:
Very true, wouldn't want people reading here would we? :lmao:
Not about them being idiots, no...
You mean to say if you drop dead you're not going to go back and haunt them to tell them yourself?
Alright...this is how it goes...
1. Father was infertile and finally got this one son when he was in his late 40s
2. Son got married and has two disabled children one of which is severely disabled
3. They had embezzlement (mind yourself, this is a small company but it was even smaller then) in the amount close to a million dollars (not really possible in a company this size but here it is).
4. Company endured 2 floods with complete and total devastation and damage...
Do you think I have to say anything to them ever or somebody is already trying to tell them something only nobody is listening???
BUT...I can't log in here no matter what...I just can't...it appears to me...but mind yourself...it is just an impression that I get that when I enter my user ID and password...just as I press submit button...my password disappears...clean text box...dunno if that's possible but this is how it looks like...
That's perfectly fine and working as designed.
Your login information is stored on your computer in a cookie, so that's where to have closer look:
Delete all exisitng cookies
Check security settings regarding cookies
Thanks, R!
Question of cookies occured to me...obviously I adjusted settings for higher security prior to deleting all cookies(for as much good as it does me)...but that wouldn't explain to me why I can log in one part of the site and not the other...
In any event...thank god for small mercies and I was able to log in from another part of the site...life in this place is unbearable without internet...
My signing in yesterday was a fluke...I am out again...don't miss me too much...have no clue what it is but it almost seems like there is something preventing a cookie getting in...geez...dunno what it all means...
How about installing Firefox?
How about installing Firefox?
Done...I thought of you and thought about Firefox...and believe it or not...that IE browser was stable enough for a few minutes to do that...unfortunately, Firefox behaves the same as IE...it's almost like URL hijacking or something...but not quite...click on any link and it hangs and it hangs and it hangs...then I can get to most of them but navigate only a few...for example, Netflix, Amazon - no problem...this site...no way...very strange...
