First it was Meat who said that because of health issues, Jim couldn't do BAT 3. Meat was lambasted for that, the saying was that Meat was just making an excuse.
Now Bonnie Tyler is saying the same thing regarding Jim's involvement in her next albumn.
It is only my opinion, but I think that Jim is finished as a creative force. And there is very little more unfortunate than that...

Are you Bullwhip on Rockman? cos some nutter on there is saying near enough the exact same thing.

Probably none apart from the one you point out. Certainly without any quoted source this can't be taken as anything more than that I think.

I agree Andy - people might have thought that Meat Loaf was done in recent years - true he has gone through bad times, but look at him now - recording again!
Jim is no spring chicken anymore, so really you won't see him do much as he used to in his younger days, but I bet that mind of his can still bring some excellent work, and I look forward to seeing that in the near future. :D
bad health doesnt mean he doesnt have any creativity left in him (or creative force, not sre whats meant by that lol)

Jim didn't do an awful lot in his younger days either! It's a shame he is / was not more prolific.

Is Jim finished as a creative force? Absolutely not. I believe there's proof enough that he can still write a lyric in two or three spots on his blog. As for music...ummm..."Wonderful Toys" is a bad example anyway, QUICKLY MOVING ON...
Just because he's not finished as a creative force, however, doesn't mean something isn't wrong health-wise. Officially speaking, we've heard three different times now about strokes (once when it got leaked to the Rockman Record at some point in the 2000's, once in the press build-up for Bat III, and now again as the reason Jim's not doing any work for Bonnie Tyler's upcoming album). This isn't a case of 2 and 2 making 5, as some at the Rockman would put it, if each time something has come up, they tried to hide it. We only found out the first time Jim had health trouble because someone blabbed -- otherwise it would not have been known. The second and third times, any change in Jim's health has been steadfastly denied, but what I want to know is if we can really trust that after the first situation.
I wish the man the best of health, but if he's really not doing well, whether he's being creative right now or not, the fans have a right to know.
I have been a big fan of meat loaf and jim steinman for 16 years. i just want to say a big thankyou to jim for writing some fantastic songs that you have writen over the years.i wish jim the very best of luck and thanks for some brilliant songs. from lisa01

I wish the man the best of health, but if he's really not doing well, whether he's being creative right now or not, the fans have a right to know.
why?
Jim Steinman seems to be an incredibly private man and should be allowed to do what he wants when he wants it. This whole "public must know" stuff is just an excuse for people to gossip more.
If he's not well enough to release any work, then so be it. If he does release new work, then I look forward to hearing it, but we are in no position to demand a singer/songwriter/performer release material.
I would rather he produce one piece of fantastic music rather then several average songs
the fans have a right to know.
BS i'm afraid, we might LIKE to know but in no way shape or form is it our RIGHT to know. As with Meat (unless it affects a show or tour) Jim doesnt need to say anything if he doesnt want to, it's his business.
I hope we see more from him but fi we dont then so be it, we will just have to appreciate what he has put out there.
well if he is sick [ thats hes bizz ] there is obviously something wrong, meat didnt do bat 3 without him for nothing? hes not working on bonnies album? the bat musical is sadly looking like its just talk? so there is something wrong [ but thats jims bizz ] we cant demand answers:oops:

let's not forget it was an open secret for years that jim wouldnt be involved in bonnies new album. They've speculated about this before Bat3 came out. I wouldnt read too much into this.

Truth be told, last JD said anything about it on the Rockman, Jim didn't even know she was making a new album, nor had an offer been made, but enough time passed between that and the announcement that Jim wasn't working on her album due to a stroke that these could have been isolated incidents.
And yes, maybe "we have a right to know" was a little strongly worded, but still, with all that taken together, doesn't somebody wanna know what the hell is going on?
But as has been pointed out, wanting to know something is completely different to having a right to know. Just because Steinman chooses to put his work in the public eye doesn't mean the public have any right to know anything else about him - some of my artwork is going to be in a public show in a few weeks and if I stood and told everyone about my health problems they'd think I was mental because it's nothing at all to do with my work. Yes people want to know what's going on, but I think a few need to remember it's none of their business!

Unless the display is called My Life: My Health ;)
Under those circumstances I would tell, and if Jim writes an album under that title then I'll expect some news!

I doubt that any of us would be surprised if Jim never wrote another song. As others have said, he's never been very prolific, but I'd take quality over quantity any day, and Steinman's written more great songs than most.
If he is done, so be it.

This is a Jim friendly site. No one should bash Jim. It is a classless act to do such a thing to someone who has brought much enjoyment to the world and most of all , the people on this site.
Jim and I have done great things together, have done allot to help each other and I still consider Jim to be a good friend. He may not mind what you say about him but I do. Please remember, Jim is at the top of a very short list of great writers and he should be shown the respect he deserves.
Meat Loaf
Quite why anyone needs to read that post in this context is beyond me.
I can't say anyone here is being critical or rude about Jim.
The worst thing i've seen posted about him is quality not quantity, which is no bad thing at all.
Weather continued health problems is a factor is stopping Jim from working is an issue that will naturally be debated by fans.
Enquiring minds want to know
But as long as this is one in a respectful and in no way in breach of Jim's privacy, I can't see a problem.
I don't believe the fans have a right to know if Jim is unwell.
If you don't believe that try ringing Jim's doctor and demand to know how he is (how Jimmy that is, not the doctor).
When you explain you are not a relative or personal friend, but you are a fan, see how long it takes for him to hang up.
Jim could end any speculation with a statement, but if he is not comfortable doing that right now, we can only wait and see what happens.

Just to backtrack myself a bit, I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that pre-Bat1 era Jims musicals were based more on quantity rather than quality, as for the most part they were shit with only a few exceptional songs.

Very true.
I think maybe Jim became a bit of a perfectionist after Bat 1, only going ahead finishing and producing a song if he thought it was really good.
Think the Steinman is done statment is rubbish actually. It was only in 2005 I heard "What Part of My Body..." and in 2006 that I heard "Vespers/Angels Arise". Both amazing pieces of music and rank amongst Steinman's best imo.
Also a lot of artists / songwriters simply get less prolific in their older days (Billy Joel / Mark Knopfler (the Dire Straits stuff of the early 80s was much more interesting and musically complex than what he is doing now) / Elton John).

If you can't debate the subject without getting personal then don't bother. Stick to the facts or the theories as you know them, cut out the bullshit, cut out the dramatics, cut out the personal stuff.
