That's what always bugs me about these compilations. How hard would it have been to put a couple of rare tracks on it? Take A Number or something from the Nassau Colliseum show?

21 May 2009, 22:16
Hardly a hit though was it?
RockingBat
21 May 2009, 22:32
I wonder why anyone would want to buy it... a Meat Loaf fan will ideally have all those songs mentioned there, plus many more ofcourse. Why spend an extra 12 pounds when not really needed?
Possibly one of the most pointless Meat Loaf releases ever (no Bat III jokes, please!), it won't even appeal to those who would buy a CD for the "new" artwork on the cover :?
sexyeyes_jo
22 May 2009, 00:02
is it even worth it when you get most of those songs on the very best of meat loaf and i can't see people spending £12 just for two songs when one of those was a hit in the 90's

it's all above trying to make a little bit more money from a compiliation, as if there aren't enough out at the minute....always a new young meat loaf fan somewhere that can be tapped up, or someone that hasn't listened to him since Bat 1

The most interesting thing is that there is material from two record companies on the album.

sexyeyes_jo
22 May 2009, 00:15
yes but what i meant for that wise arse  was that anything for love was a bigger hit than i'd lie for you
It is indeed, it's strange that Sony would go to the trouble to get the 2 EMI tracks on there and then just ship it out with new artwork. They would have to pay for the 2 tracks and a percentage of each sale would go to EMI too. So yeah, it's a strange one.

Possible reasons:
1. They are bored themselves by all those compilations that don't include anything new.
2. They've flooded the market with so many uninteresting CDs that they have to offer something that's at least a little different.
3. They've realized that customers aren't that stupid to think that Meat Loaf's career ended in 1984.
I guess paying for those two tracks won't ruin them. ;)

When are we getting the 5 albums, OWNED BY SONY, digitally remastered and re-released? NOOO, WE'LL GET 10 MILLION COMPILATIONS BEFORE THAT HAPPENS.
Edit: OK, "Bat Out Of Hell" doesn't count because they've already done that to death. But, come on, "Dead Ringer" and "Bad Attitude" could use a good remaster.
Pudding
25 May 2009, 12:01
Dead Ringer and Bad Attitude are long overdue for remastering. In fact didn't Kasim say in his recent intervie that they'd actually recorded about 5 songs for a Bat2 back in 1979, something like that, adding those little chestnuts as a bonus for Dead Ringer would be the bogs dollocks.

Yea but its been EXACTLY 30 years. the original is probably so diluted it makes the CD master of Dead Ringer probably look like a blue ray

It would still be worth a listen and a selling point for the CD.

rubbish, there have been many good remastered albums older than that, granted maybe not as top notch as newer ones but still worth it.
rockfenris2005
27 May 2009, 12:23
I don't understand. What original is so diluted? The masters? What masters? "Dead Ringer" or Meat's attempt at "Bad For Good"? Jim said in an interview in 1983 that they couldn't get anything out of Meat for that album so nothing exists.
Pudding
27 May 2009, 13:47
And yet Kasim in an interview this past week said that Meat and Jim recorded about 5 songs for a Bat2 back in 1979.

27 May 2009, 16:12
And Kasim was the co-producer and songwriter of "Bad For Good"? Jim specifically said they worked on the tracks but couldn't get anything out of Meat Loaf, which was the reason Meat Loaf did "Dead Ringer" because he was so frustrated with the other songs. It's all there in the interview where Jim talks about "The Dream Engine". Kasim may be mistaken. I definitely believe he's mistaken about the time line for "Back Into Hell". It wasn't started in 1991 because the "Hits Out Of Hell" DVD said the album was going to be released that year and Meat Loaf, himself, said they began work on the album in the 1980s.
No offense, but I'm going to stick with Meat and Jim's word on this.

And Kasim was the co-producer and songwriter of "Bad For Good"?
WTF are you talking about? BTW who are you today rockfenris2005 or madhatterster?
For a start Kasim has no reason to lie as it serves absolutely no purpose to.
Just because Jim said he couldn't get anything out of Meat doesn't mean Meat couldn't sing at all, it means Meat probably couldn't sing the way Jim wanted him to. Yes the project got cancelled because Meat couldn't complete it, but there's absolutely no record anywhere that states Meat didn't complete any of the songs to a greater or lesser degree.
Since Jim takes about 1-2 years (at best) to complete an album, and he had 2 albums with his songs on come out in 1981, logically one would assume that Jim must have started the projects around 1979, which is something Kasim mentioned that he did.
I know sometimes logic fails you Ryan/Rockfenris/Madhatterster and whoever the hell you might be from one day to the next, which is probably why you use multiple aliases to try and cover up the bullshit.

Moderators, could you please stop this person attacking me for no reason? I have already said that I don't do incarnations or any of the things he's accusing me of and I really don't expect to log onto a community and be treated this way for no reason. It's actually pretty hurtful and alarming. It makes me feel that I am unwelcome or in a place that has bullies, and I know people who have stopped going to work because of bullies. Sorry for any inconvenience. I'll respond to the thread a little later perhaps.

Hey, a top 10 hit at this stage in his career was a minor miracle. And top 10s should be on any definitive hits compilation - not that this is one.

It's not a minor miracle when it's riding off the back of a Bat album, it should've been bigger. Maybe there'll be a proper 3 Bats compilation album out sometime, who knows, I won't be buying that either.

well, there's hardly anything 'new' about it, is it?
I could imagine that they want to boost this (and get more money out of it, than out of all the other crappy compilations) as they already spend money for the rights on the two new tracks.
I hope no one's gonna buy their dull compilations anymore, despite of their advertising. I'm tired of record companies trying to make a fast buck by selling old stuff again and again, without putting at least some effort into their products.

I had a look at it yesterday. the extra tracks are edited versions, which is a little strange considering that all the 'original' tracks are full-length versions, and by my maths there should still be enough room on a compact disc to add the full-length versions of AFL and ILFY.
It just occured to me that in a new collector market this would have done so much better if it was called something like...Antique Hits out of Hell...

Sony have given this a good TV push for fathers day and looks to have paid off. It's it's 110th week on the chart since its release and sales this week of 6,521 taking the total sales of this title to 349,882. :)
Sony's other current Meat title 'Piece Of The Action' sold another 1,183 this week retaining it's place as Meat's biggest selling title of the year. It's sold 10,919 since it's release a few weeks back.

So if Sony can have success by recycling the same tat, then why do they not realise they could have more success by putting out something different?
RadioMaster

for exactly that reason...they have success with it. why bother with something different if there's always the risk of failing, when you can make money in a way a lot easier?
Evil One
15 Jun 2009, 19:28
That's one way of looking at it. Alternatively if instead of rehashing HOOH they had released one of the old concerts they must have lying in their vaults as 'Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell Live' and marketed it for father's day then not only would they get the current sales figures, but many other Meat fans would buy it too.

Just out of interest, why should a Meat Loaf fan (who probably owns all his albums) buy Hits out of Hell at all, no matter whether it's the old or the new version? Unlike The Very Best Of (for example) the Hits CDs don't include anything that hasn't been released before. :??:

Great news on the Meaty front and it's a shame the big man won't see a single penny (Unless EMI pay him for the two bonus tracks?) from this, but at least it keeps him in the charts.
On a sadder note, the Sony run of adverts have now finished as they were pushing it for fathers day :(
i know lots of things;)

Theoretically, both Meat and Jim should still be making money from the publishing, they get royalties from the songs (both of them were party to Bat's initial publishing deal). On the other hand, whether or not someone at Sony has been doing creative accounting with publishing royalties is anyone's guess, but at this point, hardly surprising.

Theoretically it all depends on whether they signed over their publishing and royalty rights.

It's still great stuff....#10 with a rehashed hits compilation? After all the other compilations over these years?
I'd love to know what it is about the UK and Meat Loaf, and why it has always been one of his biggest markets. Any thoughts? Or should I start another topic for that one?

Already on DVD several times over Lisa ;), look for the 25th editon of the Bat album and also the latest release they slapped the Dead Ringer vid on the end.
Meat didn't want the first Hit's out not alone a second. Glad your enjoying it though .

Yea, the US is too preoccupied with Myley Cyrus and the Jonas Bros
our tastes sucks major wick

They did, according to all the documents released during the Bat III court battle, they showed that both Meat and Jim signed over their rights and effectively became "artists for hire" paid a salary rather than royalties for Bat (and presumably the follow up albums on Cleveland too.
It's actually still doing good! Sales for Sunday & Monday were up 39.9% on the same period last week. Hopefully this isn't just dads spending their fathers day money.
It's down to 17 at the moment though sadly with there being a few new releases, but we'll see as the week goes on :)
Also, following on from Nikox1 totals posted...
Meat sold over 20,000 albums on the UK.
Piece of the Action shot up from 147 to 81 with a 180% sales boost with sales of 2,978. This takes it total since release to 13,897.
Hit's Out Of Hell takes it's total to 368,148 and is currently the 84 best selling album in the chart (last week) in total sales.

Speaking of the documents released during the Bat III battle, does anyone still have PDFs of those? They used to be on Naked Wire before that went kablooie.

know it all:D
hits out of hell has the above sales since its been re issued! as it has easily passed the 500,000 sales mark in the uk [ the sales above are correct ] since the re issue, in its first 10 wks in 1985 it had sold over 200,000 copies alone!
its total chart weeks as of now are 82, so that would mean it has only sold 168,000 copies since? it should be double platinum [ but the record company dont pay for certifications anymore ] but you are good and know your stuff, im just stating that the occ are not reliable at tracking older album sales
again i mean no offense:D

I think some f*cker hacked it.
Meat's dropped to 20 today with Hits Out Of Hell but sales for this are up 4.4% on this time last week.
Piece Of The Action currently has dropped from 81 to 96 but is an amazing 44.8% up on this time last week!

Not many, myself included, thought the Hits Out Of Hell would break the Top100 let alone the Top 40, so dropping to 20 in the charts isn't too shabby at all.

Maybe not but I'm sure he hasn't turned down whatever money has come his way from it.
hits out of hell at 21 [ sales are ok ]
Just seen an advert for the CD on Dave. It seems to be tied up with Sainsbury's as their logo is on the screen throughout it.
At the end of the advert the voice-over says that it would make a perfect gift for Father's Day! That really is buying early!
Dave seems to have a perspective all its own :) But I saw the ad linked to Sainsburys quite a few times on other channels in the week leading up to Fathers Day this month .. I've noticed that Dave not only consists of re-run shows .. but now and again re-run ads beyond their obvious date too .. this seems to be another example :)

There, Sony, there is STILL interest in Meat Loaf NOW RELEASE "Dead Ringer" through "Blind Before I Stop" digitally remastered with extras!

26 Jun 2009, 02:38
The bit I noticed on the advert is where voiceover man says something along the lines of "Finally! All Meat Loaf's hits together for the first time!" Surely that's false advertising?
I think it actually says "Finally all Meat Loaf's hits together for the first time on one cd" which is slightly less false ... :))
daveake
26 Jun 2009, 13:23
I'd think they'd have to remove "all hits" and "first time" to make it not false :-)

26 Jun 2009, 13:51
But Dave, you'd have to admit that "Once again, all hits from Meat Loaf's first couple of albums (plus two others tacked on for no good reason) on one CD" isn't exactly a good promotional tagline.

Honesty is always the best policy ;-)
Meat is down to 27 with HOOH with sales of 7,847 - Down 57% on last week and a total of 375,994 sold for this title.
Piece Of The Action is still going amazinly strong for a cheapy Sony best of with no publicity! Down from 81 to 110 with sales of 2,183 and total sales of 16,080.
