That's an interesting idea, Suzie. Since there are two duets with Patti, maybe one is a slow song and the other is uptempo.

And Hugh is in too!

The possibilities are all the way around Smithie. Meat has thrown curveballs before plus when we think we have all the answers, Meat changes the questions.

I'm the same way ... I've gotten more used to Facebook, and prefer it to Twiiter :-)
But hopefully Meat will still use it to post quick updates (or links to videos) even after the new site is up and running.

I'm sorry to flog a dead horse but i had given up on a new site, has anything new been said?

Pssst.......Pearl has tweeted. She's singing a duet w/Meat on this project as well. Referenced the duet as bitchin', kick-ass and powerful stuff.

I'm sorry but I haven't had a chance to listen to both of the radio interviews yet ... did Meat say that he was doing 2 duets with Patti :??: Or 2 duets on the cd :??:

Meat only mentioned one duet with Patti in a tweet a while back ... and now Pearl posted that she recorded a duet with him today :))

So maybe there are 2 duets on the cd .. one with Patti and one with Pearl :??:

This is really getting exciting :))

Well aren't you just full of questions now huh? Welcome to my brain.

For real though, it really is exciting. The interview that mentions the duets was in Oct. 08' a week after the Florida shows Vicki. Dennis Miller inquired if Patti was going to be at the Pa. show, and Meat's response was yeah. Then Meat said there is a new album and there are two duets. He didn't say specifically that it was Patti, but rather implied. On a timeline tweet, Meat put out [you know the one with Angus and McKenna (sp.)], he said that there were duets on there, but again Patti was definitely on one of them but my natural thought was that she was going to be doing both. Until today that is.

Meat was talking about Patti during that interview and he said she was back and they had two duets on the new album so hopefully there are 2 duets with Patti. Their duets are always my favorites. And Hugh is doing a duet too, so there will be many duets it seems.

I believe he said he asked Hugh Laurie to play piano ... not sure I can see Hugh dueting with Meat, although he does have a pleasant light tenor :) Can't quite see Minnie the Moocher ending up on the album .. nor Nagasaki - the Foxtrot Riot .. lol

Yah, in the Reading interview Meat was talking about Patti and he said she's back and we're doing another record and we have two duets on that record (all referring to Patti).

So would I .. lol .. Meat said ages ago that he had asked Hugh to play piano on the album. He and Stephen Fry did some hilarious duets in Jeeves and Wooster, but I don't see Hugh singing the kind of song on the album .. but he does play a mean piano indeed .. saw a J&W repeat tonight, and he cabn sure boogie :))

As to how many duets Meat will be singing with Patti .. only time will tell .. there's many a twist twixt recording and final edit :)

Honestly, Meat cannot tweet another thing to make me want this CD even more than I want it right now. I can't be any more ready or look any more forward to hearing this CD. I've wanted this CD before Meat even murmured tweet one, the desire to hear it has only grown stronger while he has had me on the hook the entire time. So for translation purposes..."I'm really looking forward" = "I want it now (but I'm going to be patient for it's release)."

What style of music does Hugh Laurie play on the video? Is Meat with him or is he just playing alone?

Sorry to bother you with my questions but I can't see the videos again, as they're back in mp4 format. Yet, I'm not the only one as I've just received a message from a Fan from New Zealand who can't see them either.

And why is there a need to upload it on another platform anyway?

Rude to do without asking, I agree. I think it's plenty legal though. There is a need because the img platform that is being used was a problem with Meat's earlier tweets. People were unable to open and view the videos.

Twitter is free anyway, so it's not like they are absconding money from the artist. Which would pose a big problem. I think Meat does want people to see his tweets, so I don't think he's going to have a big problem with someone uploading it to you tube (Meat correct me if I am wrong here). Meat tried to correct the problem himself, but for some reason, the platform keeps getting defaulted back to img or yfroggy.

I agree rare material should be uploaded.;) I disagree to have on every platform the same identical videos.
I am fine with uploading an identical video once it has been removed from a platform but I dont like the fact of same stuff on every platform.

Or the users here could pleaes stop post the links of the same videos just from different plattforms.

So you're saying that there isn't a problem with the platform, but rather that there are people who have a problems playing back the (mp4) video on their system. Which is something completely different. And easy to fix by installing the right codex or just download the video and throw it in VLC.

Uh, yeah, I'm not well versed in computer lingo or the fixing of them....what I do know is that there was/is a problem for others opening and viewing the video when it has an association with img, quicktime player, or some yfrog. I used term platform cause' someone else used it but sounded like I remembered it to be the right term. People had tried to reinstall a newer version of quicktime or already had the new version and it still didn't work. Also the throwing it in the VLC didn't yield much success either for these folks. It's all in this twitter thread if you go back a bit and read through the problems.

The solution was for Meat to upload the vids to You Tube and the vids worked for everyone there without having to mess around with trying to "fix" the computer to view the videos. For us computer neanderthals :-), myself obviously included, I wouldn't know about how to fix the problem without help from people like you and others on this site who have tried to help those who couldn't view.

I'm sure quite a few start to feel baffled by terms like codex etc ;)

And surely the thing to remember is that there's a promotional aspect to Meat's Tweets :) He has close to 8 thousand followers, most of whom probably don't visit here, and many of whom may just click on a link and if it doesn't work for them may simply shrug and move on (computer neanderthals or not) .. so the more places it's viewable, and the more easily it can be accessed, the better I would have thought.

I love to view the Tweets, and took Sarge's advice, downloading VLC media player which enables me to view them even though my Quicktime refuses to co-operate .. but were I one of the thousands who buy Meat's albums and go to a concert when he's on tour but don't spend much time on fanclub websites, I'd probably have given up on the ones I couldn't view.

I don't think there's any promotional aspect to Meats tweets at all, 8 thousand followers aint going to sell an album. Maybe Meat just wants to share a bit of an insight into how an album is created and what he gets up to and nothing more  If it was for a promotional aspect then it would be more professional, the clips Meat is recording are anything but professional, nothing more than a bit of fun.

CarylB
13 Nov 2009, 23:40
And I do .. yes, they're fun .. but they also have snippets and items about the new album to get people's interest .. and for those who like Meat Loaf generally imo one of the things they like IS his sense of fun ..

I'm not saying, nor did I say, that they are a key promotional activity, but imo 8,000 followers can't be a bad thing, and most of his tweets are about a new album, so to me there is some promotional aspect to/potential in them ..

So again we need to agree to disagree ..

Caryl

florence75015
14 Nov 2009, 00:13
I agree both with Suzanne and Caryl :

- The videos are now not available for everybody. Putting them back on Youtube had solved the problem, I therefore hope that Meat will upload them on his account again.

- Whatever the word we use, "promotional" or other, Twitter enables Meat to gain more exposure and that really matters. Furthermore, the interest in using Twitter is the fact that people can "re-tweet" your messages then reaching more persons.
So, it's not only 8.000 followers who read Meat's tweets but way more thanks to the RT.

You mean to tell me there is nothing professional about one of Meat's recent tweets with McKenna and Luna taking liberties and checking out each other's junk in their trunk?

C'Mon that is a strategy that cannot fail. I actually found that hysterically normal for me. As if that was a clip out of my own life, because I've seen my share of all that between my pets.

I'd say a lot of us have a blogspot or Facebook accounts where we post snippets of our day and update anyone who's interested of what we have or will be up to. Meat's no different, except he chooses Twitter as his outlet of personal expression. He is human too, not EVERYTHING he does has to be for the sole purpose of selling music, I'd like to think he isn't an industry whore

IMO, Meat is definitely not an industry whore and yet he is real private in his personal life and personal expression. So this avenue of twitter could have made him more neurotic, but to the contrary he is quite good at putting his guard down.

I didn't suggest the Twitter snippets were a prime promotional tool, merely in defending their getting as wide an audience as possible said that there is imo a promotional "aspect" to them .. and to imply that this would make Meat an "industry whore" is as specious as it is plain daft.

Not all of them are of pups .. sniffing behinds or not .. Many are snippets from the album, feature guests on the album .. and these result in many comments of excitement here, with people saying they are really looking forward to the album .. Who is to say (apart from Pud perhaps) that there will be other people who do not visit or comment here, do not experience the same excitement and interest in what the album will be like, at how it may be different and new etc etc.

I did not suggest that Meat is using Twitter as a promoptional tool .. indeed he lhao at those who suggested in the beginning that they were carefully scripted .. They are fun, sure.

However, if watching them arouses interest in fans who do not visit this fansite (and currently Meat doesn't currently have an official fansite which offers much (except the link to Twitter .. so one would assume he wants fans who search out his official site to actually GO to Twitter) .. if it arouses that level of interest, then it's useful .. and IMO useful that as many as possible can actually view the things. And if any of those convert to sales of the album or bums on seats at a concert, they've had a beneficial effect .. which is the promotional aspect I was talking about.

An official fansite has a promotional aspect in that it is the performer's window to the world .. Meat's Twitter page is currently his official means of communicatiing with his fans around the world. To have an official site doesn't make any performer an "industry whore" .. it just makes sense!

You're just making shit up aren't you? I've never said I wasn't looking forward to the album and I've never said people outside of MLUKFC won't be excited about it either. I might not fall over myself on everything Meat does thinking it's fantastic or hang off every single word he says as if he's some deity, but that doesn't make me any less of a Meat Loaf fan.

I did not suggest that Meat is using Twitter as a promoptional tool ..

Really? Then who the hell wrote this "And surely the thing to remember is that there's a promotional aspect to Meat's Tweets :)"

To have an official site doesn't make any performer an "industry whore" .. it just makes sense!

And nobody said it did, what was said was "not EVERYTHING he does has to be for the sole purpose of selling music"

I see what you are saying Caryl. And I can see the possibility of viewers of tweets converting into sales.

The people that are following Meat on Twitter would have probably bought the album regardless if Meat twittered or not.

No real point in taking this any further as you'll continue to take phrases and imply something not meant. I did not say you weren't looking forward to the album .. just said you'd probably argue the point I was making .. as indeed you have done. And for the final time

I said there was a PROMOTIONAL ASPECT .. I did not say the Tweets were simply a promotional tool ..

As to:
I might not fall over myself on everything Meat does thinking it's fantastic or hang off every single word he says as if he's some deity, but that doesn't make me any less of a Meat Loaf fan.

Tweets are quiet right now. So I'm reminiscing back to the William Shatner tweets because according to WilliamShatner.com the Raw Nerve season 2 is due to kick off on this Sunday, Dec. 6 in the US. It did not give an episode guide (or Meat's episode) for season 2 yet. If I stumble upon any new info. I'll post it in the TV appearance thread area. I'm looking forward to this interview, cause' I remember Meat saying he brought something special from the album to Shatner. Could it be a TITLE? LOL. The surprise could be anything.

Sounds like theres a clue to the album's title on the new tweet - it's based on a short story by Kilian Kerwin apparently. Let's all go and find out who that is and what the story is, and if I've spelt it right!

Not too bothered what the album's called to be honest - just want to hear the thing!!

Edit - It seems that Kilian Kerwin wrote and directed a film Meat was in in 2003 called Learning Curves. So who knows if that has anything to do with this album or not. Hmmmm, curious.

It seems this production team is extremely efficient and has a huge reputation. I supsect the announced release date could actually be met this time if the record company is as up-to-speed. I wonder how long it will take from here to get the art, promotion, pressing, etc. done and actually deliver it. Summer is prime touring season, but Meat has a tendency to do fall album releases. I suspect it is still going to be later 2010 before we get the release.

Meat has said in the past, spring release. I'm suspecting this time frame since we haven't heard otherwise. If he is tweeting he's done....I'm suspecting album art is already done. Which leaves promo and press. Looks like the stars are aligned for the promo to begin January. Dare we keep up?!? I will surely try.

Celebrity big brother starts the week before Meat arrives in UK though so maybe/maybe not. Whatever it is sounds like Meat is expecting us to be cynical of it. Any promotion will be good promotion no matter what it is :-)

Twitters will keep coming. I will be arriving in the UK Jan 10th. Will be there anywhere from 7 to 12 weeks. You'll find out part of what's going on the 11th or the 12th. the rest will unfold one piece at a time. Yes , the art work is done.

Ps. when you hear what I'm doing just go with with flow. There is a reason for it . Part of an over all deal with Universal.

Yay! Twitters will keep coming. Thank you for the updates Meat. I'm so entranced and intrigued. Of course, I'll go with the flow too.

Yes he did seem to be paving the way for an outburst of cynicism .. still, although I wouldn't wish BB on the poor sod, if anyone could manage himself through it with tongue firmly in cheek and style I'd put money on Meat .. as you say any promotion which helps boost sales is good .. and at least I'm glad to say he won't be on that Celebrity Wipe-out which is on tonight .. I want to see a Meat with all four limbs in working order on tour!! .. ;) ..

I'd like to see another Buzzcocks, QI, or perhaps the two weekend cookery programmes .. the last two don't have a studio audience (which he might prefer), and give quite lengthy exposure .. or even his stated desire to be on Eastenders as Dot's boyfriend

Whatever it is .. give us notice and I shall watch, enjoy, and cheer him on

Depends on which channels they're on .. BBC TV doesn't make it's "catch-up" offerings available to those outside the UK .. due to sales deals (real or potential) with those countries they agree not to have them playable the UK, but they make BBC radio available to the world at large. If there are links to shows on other channels you are more likely to able to view them.

There's a number of shows Meat's been on in the USA which haven't been on channels over here I can view, or available in their entirety on the web .. Like House for eg .. Guess it's swings and roundabouts .. but we'll do our best when he's on our side:)

 Don't think it's CBB because, as Chris says, it starts before Meat arrives.

Even if it was though, I can hardly think it would be a bad thing as one way or another, it's a hell of a lot of exposure.
Wasn't it CBB that that bloke from Take That went on and suddenly they were back on the scene in a big way after being washed up years ago?

I'm not a fan of BB/CBB, but if Meat went on it, yeah i'd watch. And i'd hope that the resulting publcity would have a great effect on him.

As for what else it could be, who knows

No reason to be cynical about doing chat shows, quiz shows, or performances as a guest musical act, so what could it be?

I suppose he knows what he's doing, and I look forward to seeing the results.

27 Dec 2009, 22:05
It's surprising how little some fans seem to think of him. In my opinion, he hasn't reached a point yet at which he desperately has to grasp at any straw that could provide a little publicity. Someone who's just finished a new record doesn't have to take part in CBB or eat fish eyes in the jungle or whatever stupid things (ex-)celebrities have to do on TV nowadays. I hope the promo will be related to the product he's going to sell and that he doesn't have to make a fool of himself to get media coverage.

I'm not a fan of BB/CBB, but if Meat went on it, yeah i'd watch.

I probably wouldn't. If I did I guess I'd either  or :hic: (or do both).

Yep, that's what I call good lyrics. Brantley is a really gifted songwriter. I'm just listening to Living On The Outside - fantastic!

Carole

They're actually not big enough for many people .. generally with step-on-step-off lifts is you get on one with someone you're travelling with .. particularly if you're not used to them! (the lifts that is ;) ) .. and the upside is that there's always the next one coming up a few seconds later. They're much quicker to get on and off, no waiting for doors to open/close, no pushing a button and waiting, nor sighing as you see all the ones in operation are going in the opposite direction to the one you want .. you just get on the up or down side :-) And you don't have a mass of people you have to get past in order to get out as you do with conventional lifts .. They're aimed at fast passenger movement particularly where there's limited space, not for people with luggage or supermarket trolleys ... I've found them in office buildings and hospitals (for passengers only .. no trolleys and associated life support systems .. ) and haven't yet seen them in hotels or even department stores.

There was such an elevator (paternoster) at the university at which I studied. The building in which it was located does no longer exist. The videos make me a little nostalgic. I think there was an attempt to put all paternosters in Germany out of service a few years ago but it failed. Fortunately - otherwise we wouldn't have gotten those funny videos.

Does anybody know which building it is in? I assume it's "Haus des Rundfunks" but Meat says the elevator is from 1978. As far as I know, West Germany has not allowed new paternosters to be put into operation since the middle of the 1970s. :??: I think it's probably older. Does anybody have further info?

There was an incident which caused them to be taken out of service in the UK (back in the 80s I think) until safety features were fitted (I think that was with someone who rode it over the top .. something I don't think I'd do! I waited for one going in the direction I wanted!) We still have one in Sheffield Uni in the Arts building, quite big around 40 cars. I could see how someone's bright idea could land themselves in a world of pain. Mainly because so many people are lawsuit happy...I would never see this fly in the US (today or yesteryear). There are too many people who have to have "caution hot coffee" written on their cups, to take the stupidity factor to a whole new level. This elevator is a prime example of one man's floor is another man's ceiling. :))

I agree re the USA .. :-) I checked out of interest and it was in 1989, the paternoster in Newcastle University's Claremont Tower was taken out of service after a passenger undertaking an up-and-over journey became caught in the drive chain, and had to be rescued by the Fire Service. This led to the 18-month close-down of all UK paternosters for a safety review, during which additional safety devices were fitted.

At Sheffield one of the 50 top things to achieve whilst at university (I don't think getting a degree features on this list!) is apparently to have sex whilst going over the top in the lift in the Arts building .. which may explain what went wrong at Newcastle .. ;) I think all of those still in service in the UK are now in buildings where they are used only by employees and students in universities

I had time to reflect on the past two tweets. For clarification [in case he sneaks another one in before people read this post :) ]The one from Zurich with a room full of people and the one from exciting things happening.

The Zurich one had me looking for another tweet all day because he said, "I'll tell you later what we're doing." And I took that literally for the day. So thankfully that teaser tweet was satisfied by the exciting things happening tweet. Meat is pioneering another method of promo work. Kind of like a "private invitation viewing/listening experience" with the man behind the vision. I love this!!! How intimate and intricate. IF these are media critics (i.e. room full of people)...then it's absolute genius. Cut the critics balls off before the album even hits the shelf. Checkmate critics.

And IF this room full of people are movers and shakers in the business, then that too is a genius idea because he's captivated his market with a private experience just for them. A perfect set up for this album. Go get em' Meat. I love what angle Meat is coming from. How can they resist him? They simply can't.

I could be completely wrong and I'm okay with being wrong, but at the very least this is a very interesting form of promo Meat is definitely pioneering. I say, Go Meat Go!! Full support coming from me.

What a great way of saying what I am doing. Much better at words than I am. That's why I only wirte a few lines per album. As you just did, I get writers to interpert story lines. If you know what I mean? :-)

Well welcome back Fire Ball. Thank you for confirming my line of thinking and the compliment about words. I know what you mean about your written contributions to albums and story line interpretation but I guarantee you that you would mop the floor with me in history. ::)

Promo idea sounds fantastic - forces the critics to actually listen to the album for one thing, gets the word out superbly, and who's going to tell Meat they don't like it to his face :lawl:. Critics are likely to be positively disposed towards Meat at least for making the time and effort to see them and demo the album. Meat seems pleased with the responses so far, so this just makes me even more excited about the new album than ever!

Seriously though, this promo idea sounds phenomenal. I volunteer to be in the next UK group.

Good evening Meat!

Please let me make an assumption: You have listed different cities (Amsterdam, Berlin) in your tweet after the "Zürich-tweet where you did the same kind of promotion. Could we expect that there will be higher chances for concerts in these cities?

Or have you talked to international press in Zürich and Zürich was just the easiest place to meet?

Damn, the Park Hyatt wasn't that far away. I need a sixth sense for that!:D

With all the Jim commotion going on, I just want to say....dental work sux and I feel for you Meat. Your trademark gum is questionable for the BIG show I presume. Or just chew on the right is my advice. LOL.

Ouch .. yes! What was it Bob Newhart used to say? It's the pain of getting the novocaine!! But Meat looks pretty chipper, and still maintaining humour with a Tweet! :-)
