I haven't got time for the good things in life
A game with the kids or a kiss for the wife
I must read the paper or finish this letter
I've no time for a word that'll make things better
Don't disturb me now while I'm watching the news
A political hiccup counts more than your views
I haven't got time to tell you I care
I must get ready and tidy my hair
I was far to busy to notice you cry
And I was far to busy when you said goodbye

I suppose we are all guilty of it at times. Reminded me of this poem

Leisure by Wm. Hanry Davies

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

We've tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse. For my grandchildren, I'd like better.

I'd really like for them to know about hand me down clothes and homemade icecream and leftover meat loaf sandwiches.

I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated.

I hope you learn to make your own bed and mow the lawn and wash the car.

And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when your sixteen.

It will be good if at least one time you can see puppies born as your old dog is put to sleep.

I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in.

I hope you have to share a bedroom with your little brother/sister and it's alright if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he/she's scared, I hope you let him in.

When you want to see a movie and your little brother/sister wants to tag along, I hope you'll let him/her.

I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and you live in a town where you can do it safely.

On rainy days when you catch a ride, I hope you don't ask your driver to drop you two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with someone as uncool as your mum.

If you want a slingshot, I hope your Dad teaches you how to make one instead of buying it.

I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books.

When you learn to use computers, I hope you also learn to add and subtract in your head.

I hope you get teased by your friends when you have your first crush on a boy/girl, and when you talk back to your mother that you learn what ivory soap tastes like.

May you skin your knee climbing a mountain, burn your hand on a stove and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole.

I don't care if you try a beer once, but I hope you don't like it, and if a friend offers you dope or a joint, I hope you realise they are not your friend.

I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your Grandma/Grandpa and go fishing with your Uncle.

May you feel sorrow at a funeral and joy during the holidays.

I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a football through your neighbours window and that she hugs you and kisses you at Christmas time when you give her a plaster mould of you.

These things I wish for you - tough times and disappointments, work and happiness. To me, it's the only way to appreciate life.

Sealed with a kiss. I'm here for you. And if I die before you do, I'll go to heaven and wait for you.

Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath.

Today I wish you a day of ordinary miracles .....
A fresh pot of coffee you didn't make yourself
An unexpected phone call from an old friend
Green stoplights on your way to work
The fastest line at the grocery store
A good sing-along song on the radio
Your keys right where you left them

They say it takes a minute to find a special person
An hour to appreciate them
A day to love them
But an entire life to forget them

Found this one for you Dottie

How endless the summer seems to be,
Wrapped in a warmth that shields like love.
Time stands still
And a laziness surrounds all and everything.
The world is full of so much beauty,
It is beyond our comprehension.
Everything lives for the sheer joy of living
And light, plays and dapples and shades,
Grass ,tree, stream and flower in coolness.
deep inside me flows a love for God's world and all it's beauty.
For the healing power of summer green.
For the laughter of meadow flowers,
And the dance of light and shade and gentle breeze.
Love for the lazy whine of insects
And birds that sing songs for the future.
Love of freedom and solitude, quiet spaces of silence,
That pass unseen and unloved by others.
And there flows a love, for the friends,
Who walk my summer pathway through life
And strengthen my love for all these things,
By sharing it.

As I've Matured...
I've learned that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do us stalk them and hope they panic and give in...

I've learned that one good turn gets most of the blankets...

I've learned that no matter how much I care, some people are just jackasses....

I've learned that it takes years to build up trust, and it only takes suspicion, not proof, to destroy it....

I've learned that whatever hits the fan will not be evenly distributed...

I've learned that you shouldn't compare yourself to others - they are more screwed up than you think.......

I've learned that depression is merely anger without enthusiam.....

I've learned that it is not what you wear, it is how you take it off.....

I've learned that you can keep vomiting long after you think your're finished.....

I've learned to not sweat the petty things, and not pet the sweaty things....

I've learned that ex's are like fungus, and keep coming back.......

I've learned age is a very high price to pay for maturity.....

I've learned that I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy it.....

I've learned that we are responsible for what we do, unless we are celebrities....

I've learned that artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity....

I've learned that 99% of the time when something isn't working in your house, one of your kids did it......

I've learned that there is a fine line between genius and insanity.......

I've learned that the people you care most about in life are taken from you too soon and all the less important ones just never go away. And the real pains in the ass are permanent......

I went to a party,
And remembered what you said.
You told me not todrink, Mom
So I had a sprite instead.
I felt proud of myself,
The way you said I would,
That I didn't drink and drive,
Though some friends said I should.
I made a healthy choice,
And your adivce to me was right,
The party finally ended,
And the kids drove out of sight.
I got into my car,
Sure to get home in one piece,
I never knew what was coming, Mom
Something I expected least.
Now I'm lying on the pavement,
And I hear the policeman say,
The kid that caused this wreck was drunk,
Mom, his voice seems far away.
My own blood's all around me,
As I try hard not to cry.
I can hear the paramedic say,
This girl is going to die.
So why do people do it, Mom
Knowing that it ruins lives?
And now the pain is cutting me,
Like a hundred stabbing knives.
Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom
Tell daddy to be brave,
And when I go to heaven,
put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave.
Someone should have taught him,
That it's wrong to drink and drive.
Maybe if his parents had,
I'd still be alive.
My breath is getting shorter, Mom
I'm getting really scared.
These are my final moments,
And I'm so unprepared.
I wish that you could hold me Mom,
As I lie here and die.
I wish that I could say, "I love you, Mom!"

So I love you and goodbye.

FAMILY - I ran into a stranger as he passed by "Oh excuse me please" was my reply.

He said, "Please excuse me too. I wasn't watching for you".

We werevery polite, this stranger and I. We went on our way and we said goodbye.

But a home a different story is told, how we treat uor loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, cooking the evening meal. My son stood beside me very still. When I turned I nearly knocked him down. "Move out the way" I said with a frown. He walked away his little heart broken. I didn't realise how harshly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake in bed, God's still voice came to me nad said "While dealing with a stranger, comon courtsey you use, but the children you love, you seem to abuse.

Go and look on the kitchen floor. You'll find some flowers there by the door. Those are the flowers he brought for you. He picked them himself, pink, yellow, and blue. He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise, you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes.

By this time, I felt very small, and now my tears began to fall. I quietly went and knelt by his bed. "Wake up, little one, wake up" said "Are these the flowers you picked for me?" He smiled "I found them out by the tree".

I picked them because there're pretty like you. I knew you'd like them, especially the blue." I said "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today, I shouldn't have yelled at you that way".
He said "Oh Mum, that's okay. I love you anyway".
I said "Son I love you too, and I do like the flowers, especially the blue".

FAMILY - Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days.
But the family we left behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.
And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than into our own family.
An unwise investment indeed, don't you think? So what is behind the story?

Do you know what the word FAMILY means?

FAMILY=(F)ather(A)nd(M)other(I)(L)ove(Y)ou

Living on earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun every year.

HOw long a minute is depends on what side of the bathroom door your'e on.

Birthdays are good for you, the more you have, the longer you live.

Happiness comes through doors you didn't even know you left open.

Ever notice that the people who are late are often much jollier than the people who have to wait for them?

Most of us go to our grave with our music still inside of us

If Wal-Mart is lowering its prices every day, how come nothing is free yet?

You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person.

Some mistakes are too much fun to make only once.

Don't cry because it's over. Smile, because it happened.

We could learn a lot from crayons, some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colours....but they all exist nicely in the same box.

A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Have an awesome day, and know that someone who thinks your're great has thought about you today!

Think this si the right place for this.

It is an anonymous poem that was found in the belongings of a ssoldier killed in Northern Ireland. No one knows who worte it but it ahs been around for years. It won the BBC Nation's favourite poem award but was disqualified as it was anonymous.

Do not stand by my grave and weep,

I am not there.

I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am a diamond glint on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awake in the morning hush,

I am the swift up-flinging rush

of quiet birds in circling flight.

I am the soft star shine at night.

Do not stand by my grave and cry.

I am not there.

I did not die.

I envy Kevin

My brother Kevin thinks God lives under his bed. At least that's what I heard him say one night. He was praying out loud in his dark bedroom, and I stopped outside his closed door to listen. "Are you there God?" he said "Where are you? Oh I see under the bed".

I giggled softly and tiptoed off to my own room. Kevin's unique perspectives are often a source of amusement. But that night something else lingered lingered after the humour. I realised for the very first time the very different world Kevin lives in. He was born 30 years ago,, mentally disabled as a result of difficulties during labour. Apart from his size (he's 6ft 2ins) there are few ways in which he is an adult. He reasons and communicates with the capabilities of a 7yr old, and he always will. He will probably always believe that God lives under his bed, that Santa Claus is the one who fills the space under our tree every Christmas and that airplanes stay up in the sky because angels carry them. I remember wondering if Kevin realises he is different. Is he ever dissatified with his monotonous life? Up before dawn each day, off to work at a workshop for the disabled, home to walk our cocker spaniel, return to eat his favourite macaroni cheese for dinner, and later to bed. The only variation in the entire scheme are laundry, when he hovers excitedly over the washing machine, like a mother with her newborn child.

He does not seem dissatified. He lopes out to the bus every morning at 7.05am eager for a day of simple work. He wrings his hands excitedly while the water boils on the stove before dinner, and he stays up late twice a week to gather our dirty laundry for his next day's laundry chores.

And Saturdays - oh, the bliss of Saturdays! That's the day my Dad takes Kevin to the airport to have a soft drink, watch the planes land, and speculate loudly on the destination of each passenger inside. "That one's going to Chi-car-go"Kevin shouts as he claps his hands. His anticipation is so great he can hardly sleep on Friday nights.

And so goes his world of daily rituals and weekend field trips. He doesn't know what it means to be discontent. His life is simple. He will never know the entanglements of wealth, of power, and he does not care what brand of clothing he wears or what kind of food he eats. His needs have always been met, and he never worries that one day they may not be. His hands are diligent. Kevin is never so happy as when he is working.

When he unloads the dishwasher or vacuums the carpet, his heart is completely in it. He does not shrink from a job when it is begun, and he does not leave a job until it is finished. But when his tasks are done, Kevin knows how to relax.

He is not obsessed with work, or the work of others. His heart is pure. He still believes everyone tells the truth, promises must be kept, and when you are wrong, you apologise instead of argue.

Free from pride, and unconcerned with appearance, Kevin is not afraid to
cry when he is hurt, angry, or sorry. He is always transparent, always sincere. And he trusts God. Not confined by intellectual reasoning, when he comes to Christ, he comes as a child. Kevin seems to know God -to really be friends with Him in a way that is difficult for an "educated" person to grasp.

God seems like his closest companion. In my moments of doubt and frustrations with my Christianty, I envy the security of Kevin has in his simple faith. It is then that I am most willing to admit that he has some divine knowledge that rises above my mortal questions. It is then I realise that perhaps he is not the one with the handicap - I am. My obligations, my fear, my pride, my circumstances - they all become disabilities when I do not trust them to Gods care. Who knows if Kevin comprehends things I can never learn?

After all he has spent his whole life in that kind of innocence, praying after dark, and soaking up the goodness and love of God. And one day when the mysteries of heaven are opened, and we all amazed at how close God really is to our hearts, I'll realise that God heard simple prayers of a boy who believed that God lived under his bed. Kevin won't be surprised at all!

When you read this, say a prayer. That's all you have to do

To realise .....

To realise the value of a sister, ask someone who doesn't have one.

To realise the value of ten years ask a newly divorced couple.

To realise the value of four years ask a graduate.

To realise the value of one year ask a student who has failed a final exam.

To realise the value of one week ask an editor of a weekly newspaper

To realise the value of one hour ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.

To realise the value of one minute ask a person who has missed the train, bus or plane

To realise the value of one second ask a person who has won a silver medal in the Olympics.

Time waits for no one. Treasure every moment you have. You will treasure it even more when you can share it with someone special.

To realise the value of a friend - lose one.

Your're my friend,
my companion,
through the good times,
and bad,
my friend,
my buddy,
through happy and sad,
beside me you walk,
beside me you stand,
beside me you listen,
your're there to talk,
with happiness,
with smiles,
with pain and tears,
I know you'll be there,
throughout the years!
You are all good friends to me,
andIam grateful to you.

On the same theme

To My Friends

Turn me with the wind
I will follow.
Once i did choose
where i would wander
Now you light my path
And all else is darkness.
And so i walk
Where your lights shine
To soften the darkness
As a candle flame
Softens the glow of a room
Stepped in to from night.
Now no matter where
Your candles burn
In the hollow of my heart
And their light
Is with me
Always.

Found a few quotes on friendship , thought you might like Dottie

" If you have one true friend
you have more than your share"

Each friend represents a world in us,
a world possibly not born until they arrive,
and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born "

"Treat your friends as you do your pictures,
and place them in their best light"

"Wherever you are it is your
own friends who make your world"

" If two people who love each other
let a single instant wedge itself between them,
it grows- it becomes a month, a year, a century;
it becomes too late"

This ones for me :)

Warning by Jenny Joseph (1932-)

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, anddoesn't suit me,
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things
in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Remember - Christina Rossetti (1830-94)

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far into the silent night;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned;
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness andcorruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

Dottie - Thought those activities would be far too tame for you!!! ;)

Bren - My own personal friendship quote, not quite as deep as yours but...
"A friend will bail you out of jail.
A TRUE friend will sit beside you in the cell saying "MY GOD THAT WAS AWESOME"

"You're my bread when I'm hungry
You're my shelter from troubled winds
You're my anchor in life's ocean,
But most of all,
You're my best friend."

(not sure who sings it but is from an old country song.)

Some snippets for you:-

Age is a very high price to pay for maturity
Going to church doesn't make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car
If your're too open minded, your brains will fall out
Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupity
If you must choose between two evils, pick the one you've never tried before
My idea of housework is to sweep the room with a glance
Not one shred of evidence supports the notion that life is serious
It is easier to get forgiveness than permission
For every action, there is an equal and opposite government program
If you look like your passport picture, you probably need the trip
Bills travel through the mail at twice the speed of cheques
A conscience is what hurts when all of your other parts feel so good
Eat well, stay fit, die any way
Men are from earth, Women are from earth, Deal with it
No man has ever been shot while doing the dishes
A balanced diet is a cookie in each hand
Middle age is when broadness of the mind and narrowness of the waist change places
Opportunities always look bigger going than coming
Junk is something you've kept for years and throw away three weeks before you need it
There is always one more imbecile than you counted on
Experience is a wonderful thing, it enables you to recognise a mistake when you make it again
By the time you can make ends meet, they move the ends
Thou shalt not weigh more than thy refrigerator
Someone who thinks logically provides a nice contrast to the real world
It ain't the jeans that make your bum look fat
Light travels faster than sound. That's why some people appear very bright until they speak
Inside every single old person is a young person wondering what happened?? - So True :!:

Hi Bart, just phrases, and if you read them carefully, they make sense, for example:- how many times have you thrown something away only to discover that you need it later.

You need to grow older to mature and experience life.

Do you understand now Bart?

Yes, i understand. but it is difficult. When years go by, the spirit grows more and more.

Freedom of the spirit is the very essence of who we are,and when we meet our maker in the sky, I don't believe for one minute that we are non-existent anymore.I believe that the soul, our very being is abstract, (which means you cann't feel, touch, smell, see, ) that person, so it will never die, and henceforth our life on earth, should be as a free spirit, be who you are Bart, I know I am at 53 and if I alienate some people who don't understand me, more their pity. Um I ranting a little aren't I

Bart

dottie
21 Aug 2003, 17:08
Oh yes, most definitly, I have experienced every emotion there is, and still managed to stay a very spiritual person, I never ever judge anyone who doesn't believe in my ideals, we are all individuals, different in character, likes, dislikes etc., I am a happy, go lucky person, love to have conversations like this, and always have believed that anyone in this life who carries out evil deeds, will have them come back to haunt them, and that the good people amongst us will live on for ever, in peoples minds and hearts, purely because they made such a impression whilst here in the living form.

This is pretty indicative of my emotions right now.

I decree today that life
Is simply taking and not giving
England is mine - it owes me a living
But ask me why, and I'll spit in your eye
Oh, ask me why, and I'll spit in your eye
But we cannot cling to the old dreams anymore
No, we cannot cling to those dreams

Does the body rule the mind
Or does the mind rule the body ?
I dunno...

Under the iron bridge we kissed
And although I ended up with sore lips
It just wasn't like the old days anymore
No, it wasn't like those days
Am I still ill ?
Oh ...
Am I still ill ?
Oh ...

Does the body rule the mind
Or does the mind rule the body ?
I dunno...

Ask me why, and I'll die
Oh, ask me why, and I'll die
And if you must, go to work - tomorrow
Well, if I were you I really wouldn't bother
For there are brighter sides to life
And I should know, because I've seen them
But not very often ...
Under the iron bridge we kissed
And although I ended up with sore lips
It just wasn't like the old days anymore
No, it wasn't like those days
Am I still ill ?
Oh ...
Oh, am I still ill ?
Oh ...

Wisdom ......
Maybe God wanted us to meet the wrong people before the right one so that when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift

Maybe when the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us..
Maybe the best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had...
Maybe it is true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it is also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives....
Don't go for looks, they can deceive, Don't go for wealth, even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find! the one that makes your heart smile.....
There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick then from your dreams and hug them for real...
Dream what you want to dream, go where you want to go, be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do....
May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong enough, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy......
The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything., they just make the most of everything that comes along their way......
Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss and ends with a tear.....
The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches....
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling....
Live your life! so that when you die, you are the one smiling and everyone around is crying.....
Offer these words to those people who mean something to you, those who have touched your life in one way or another, those who make you smile when you really need it, those that make you see the brighter side of things when you are really down, those who you want to let them them know that you appreciate their friendship no matter the miles and time .....

And if you don't, don't worry, nothing bad will happen to you. But maybe, sharing this wisdom may be just what someone needs right now......

some more for you..

"Trouble is part of your life,
and if you don't share it,
you don't give the person who loves you
enough chance to love you enough."

My daughter brought me a book of friendship quotes this morning in it was the following;

Without A Word ,Without A Sign

"I love you not only for what you are,
but for what i am when i am with you.

"I love you not only for what you have
made of yourself, but for what you
are making of me.

I love you because you have done more than
any creed could have done to make me good.
and more than any fate could have done to
make me happy

You have done it without a touch,
without a word, without a sign

You have done it by being yourself. perhaps
that is what being a friend means, after all.

All of my senses overthrown
by the might of your skin
and the lamplight on your cheek bone
drawing me further in
no sentence I can speak
for the wonder so unique
breaking like a wave upon the shore
mercy me, I'm falling free
since you opened up the door

See how the sky is made of sapphire
the colours flowing through our hands
the moon is fire in your hair
a million miles beyond what science understands
smell that mountain heather
I don't remember ever
feeling like this before
mercy me, I'm falling free
since you opened up the door

and if every window pane should shatter
if every wall should fall apart
well it might hurt a bit
but would it matter
this diamond in my heart
there's no need to nail it to the ground
there's no need to smother it with sense
just listen to the rhythm of your heart
that pounds and trust it all to chance
'cause we're standing face to face
with the Angel of grace
and don't it just taste so pure

mercy me, I'm falling free
since you opened up the door

A Smile For You

Smiling is infectious,
You catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling to.

I passed around the corner,
and someone saw my grin,
When he smiled I realised,
I'd passed it on to him.

I thought about that smile,
then I realised its worth,
A single smile just like mine,
could travel the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin,
don't leave it undetected,
Let's start an epidemic quick,
and get the world infected!

I know that there's a reason why I need to be alone
I need to find a silent place that I can call my own
Is, it mine Lord, is it mine?
You know I get so weary from the battles in this life
and many times it seems like your're the only one hope in sight
Is it mine, Lord is it mine?
When everything's dark and nothing seems right
there's nothing to win and there's and there's no need to fight
I never cease to wonder at the cruelty of this land
but it seems a time of sadness is a time to understand
Is it mine, Lord, Is it mine?
When everything's dark and nothing seems right
You don't have to win and there's no need to fight
If only I could find a way
to feel your sweetness through the day
The love that shines around me could be mine
So give us an answer, won't you
We know what we have to do
There must be a thousand voices trying to get through

Friends are gods way of taking care of us

Friendship doubles your joys and divides your sorrows

A friend loves at all times The Bible Proverb 17:17

Struck me as interesting:

Please don't cry
For the ghost and the storm outside
Will not invade this sacred shrine
Nor infiltrate your mind
My life down I shall lie
If the bogey-man should try
To play tricks on your sacred mind
To tease, torment, and tantalise
Wavering shadows loom
A piano plays in an empty room
There'll be blood on the cleaver tonight
And when darknesss lifts and the room is bright
I'll still be by your side
For you are all that matters
And I'll love you to till the day I die
There never need be longing in your eyes
As long as the hand that rocks the cradle is mine
Ceiling shadows shimmy by
And when the wardrobe towers like a beast of prey
There's sadness in your beautiful eyes
Oh, your untouched, unsoiled, wonderous eyes
My life down I shall lie
Should restless spirits try
To play tricks on your sacred mind
I once had a child, and it saved my life
And I never even asked his name
I just looked into his wondrous eyes
And said : "never never never again"
And all too soon I did return
Just like a moth to a flame
So rattle my bones all over the stones
I'm only a beggar-man whom nobody owns
Oh, see how words as old as sin
Fit me like a glove
I'm here and here I'll stay
Together we lie, together we pray
There never need be longing in your eyes
As long as the hand that rocks the cradle is mine
As long as the hand that rocks the cradle is mine
Mine
Climb up on my knee, sonny boy
Although you're only three, sonny boy
You're - you're mine
And your mother she just never knew
Oh, your mother ...
As long ... as long ... as long
I did my best for her
I did my best for her
As long ... as long ... as long as ... as long
I did my best for her
I did my best for her
Oh ...

A true friend is one who knows all about you and loves you as you are.

Written with a pen
Sealed with a kiss
If you are my friend,
Please answer this:-
Are we friends or are we not?
You told me once, but I forget.
So tell me know, and tell me true
So I can say, I am here for you
Of all the friends I've ever met,
Your're the ones I won't forget.
And if I die before you do,
I'll get to heaven
And wait for you.

A Wonderful Story

A woman came out of her house and saw 3 old men sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them. She said "I don't know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have something to eat."

"Is the man of the house home?" they asked.

"No" she replied. "He's out".

"Then we cannot come in", they replied.

In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened.

"Go tell them I am home and invite them in!"

The woman went out and invited the men in.

"We do not go into a house together", they replied.

"Why is that?" she asked.

One of the old men explained. "His name is Wealth," he said of his friends, and pointing to another one, "He is Success, and he is LOVE." Then he added, "Now go in and discuss with your husband about us, and decide which of us you want in your home".

The woman went in and told her husband what was said. He was overjoyed "How nice!", said. "Since that is the case, let Wealth come in and fill our home with wealth!"

His wife disagreed. "My dear, why don't we invite Success?"

Their daughter in law was listening from the other corner of the room and jumped in with her own suggestion. "Would it not be better to invite Love into our home, then it will be filled with Love!"

"Lets us heed our daughter in laws advice", said the husband.

"Go out and invite Love to be our guest."

The woman went out and asked the 3 old men, "Which one is Love, please come in and be our guest".

Love got up and started walking toward the house. The others then followed him. Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success why they were coming in.

The old men replied together. "If you have invited Wealth or Success the other two if us would've stayed out, but since you invited Love, everywhere he goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is Wealth and Success."

My wish for you.......

Where there is pain, I wish you peace and mercy.
Where there is self doubting, I wish you a renewed confidence in your ability to work through it.
Where there is tiredness, or exhaustion, I wish you understanding, patience, and renewed strength.
Where there is fear, I wish you love, and courage.

20 reasons why chocolate is better than sex

You can GET chocolate
"If you love me you'll swallow that" has real meaning with chocolate
Chocolate satisfies even when it has gone soft
You can safely have chocolate while you are driving
You can make chocolate last as long as you want it to
You can have chocolate in front of your mother
If you bite the nuts too hard the chocolate won't mind
Two people of the same sex can have chocolate without being called nasty names
The word "commitment" doesn't scare off chocolate
You can have chocolate on top of your desk during working hours without upsetting your work mates
You can ask a stranger for chocolate without getting your face slapped
You don't get hairs in your mouth with chocolate
With chocolate there's no need to fake it
Chocolate doesn't make you pregnant
You can have chocolate at any time of the month
Good chocolate is easy to find
You can have as many kinds of chocolate as you can handle
You are never too young or to old for chocolate
When you have chocolate it does not keep your neighbours awake
With chocolate size doesn't matter, it's always good

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door
I would give you a hug and kiss
And call you back for more

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would videotape each action and word,
So I could play them back day after day

If I knew it would be the last time
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you",
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
So I can let just one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow,
To make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say, "I love you"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be your last chance
You get to hold your loved one tight.

So if your're waiting for tomorrow,
Why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day.

That you didn't take that extra time,
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
What turned out to be their last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them,
and that'll you'll always hold them dear.

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me, "Thank you" or "Its okay"

And if tomorrow never comes,
You'll have no regrets about today.

The Happy Prisoner - For Hubby

You hold me in your arms
Yet I feel free
For this is where I long to be

So keep me safe within the bonds
That hold me fast
bonds of love -
Long may they last

One More Step - From Son to Father

One more step along the world I go.
From the old things to the new
Keep me travelling along with you.
As I travel through the bad and good
Keep me travelling the way I should.
Where I see no way to go
You're be telling me the way, I know.
Give me courage when the world is rough,
Keep me loving though this world can be tough.

From Mum to Son

Give time to hear, give me time to listen,
Give me wisdom for understanding,
There's a still, small voice which to each one of us is speaking,
If only we make the time to listen.

From Mum to Sister

Yesterday I looked at my child and saw my sisters face,
The clear eyes and laughing mouth -
One crooked tooth rising, slightly crooked smile,
And I was transported back some 20 years

Daughter to New Son

Look at me and I shall see
all that is precious to me,
In the twinkle of my eye,
There will be wonder,
There will be honesty,
There will be joy,
There will be laughter,
There will be LOVE.

To Daughter from Mum

To me she was my dearest friend,
Colourful, well rounded and full of joy,
And always as welcome as a Summer afternoon.
To her child she is like Autumn,
mellow and warm, her loving arms

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know.

I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up to me with a smile that lit up her entire being.

She said, "Hi, handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eight seven years old, can I give you a hug?" I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of course you may!", and she gave me a giant squeeze. Why are you in college at such a young innocent age?"I asked. She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, have a couple of kids. "No seriously, " I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age. "I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!" she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building andshared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me. Over the course of theyear, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends. whereever she went. She loved to dress up and she revelled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.

At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor. Frustrated and little embarresed she leaned into the microphone andsimply said, "I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know".

As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, "We do not stop playing because we are old, we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humour every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!".

"There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eight seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I turn eight eight. Anybody can grow older, that doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is grow up by always finding the opportunity in change.

Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets".

She concluded her speech by courageously singing "The Rose". She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives.

At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago.

One week after graduation Rose died peacefuly in her sleep.

Over two thousand collegestudents attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught them by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.

The Rose

Some say love, it is a river
that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger,
an endless aching need.
I say love, it is a flower,
and you its only seed.

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance.
It's the dream afraid of waking
that never takes the chance.
It's the one who won't be taken,
who cannot seem to give,
and the soul afraid of dyin'
that never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been to long,
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong,
just remember in the winter
far beneath the bitter snows
lies the seed that with the sun's love
in the spring becomes the rose.

Images of a Mother

4 Years of Age - My Mommy can do anything!

8 Years of Age - My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!

12 Years of Age - My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.

14 Years of Age - Naturally, Mother doesn't know that.

16 Years of Age - Mother? She's hopelessly old fashioned.

18 Years of Age - That old woman? She's way out of date.

25 Years of Age - Well, she might know a little bit.

35 Years of Age - Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion.

45 Years of Age - Wonder what Mom would have thought about it.

65 Years of Age - Wish I could talk it over with Mom :(

Around the corner I have a friend,
In this great city that has no end,
Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,
And before I know it, a year has gone.
And I never see my old friends face,
For life is a swift and terrible race,
He knows I like him just as well,
As in the days when I rang his bell
And he rang mine but we were younger then,
And now we are busy, tired men,
Tired of playing a foolish game,
Tired of trying to make a name.
"Tomorrow" I say "I will call on Jim
Just to show that I'm thinking of him"
But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,
And distance between us grows and grows.
Around the corner, yet miles away.
"Here's a telegram sir" "Jim died today".
And that's what we get and deserve in the end,
Around the corner, a vanished friend.

Remember to always say what you mean,
If you love someone, tell them.
Don't be afraid to express yourself,
Reach out and tell someone what they mean to you
Because when you decide that it is the right time it might be too late.

Seize the day. Never have regrets. And most importantly, stay close to your friends and family, for they have helped make you the person that you are today.

i wrote this on a bus journey to Liverpool,

Betrayal

Yes,
i noticed you,
holding empty conversations
with yourself.

The other passengers
watched their destinations
drawing near.
They didn't notice you
except to stare.

Maybe
years of lonliness had crazed your brain
so you remembered conversations
for comfort,
( It was reassuring to hear a voice),
but only your reflection
in the blurred window pane of the bus
answered in silence
to the sound.

You continued talking
to your past.
but the the world that betrayed you
and you
the betrayed
entered mine.

I particularly like the way the verses seem to build, with passing interest and then fade, as though the author is losing interest in the subject again.
This can be seen clearly in this verse:

"Maybe
years of lonliness had crazed your brain
so you remembered conversations
for comfort,
( It was reassuring to hear a voice),
but only your reflection
in the blurred window pane of the bus
answered in silence
to the sound. "

The first and last lines are really short. I don't know if what I read into this was intentional, but it does make you think. Very good stuff this. . .

This following poem is again an observational one something i saw that moved me to write a poem ......

Meditation; Liverpool Saturday

In mid-Novembers bitter morn,
I walked the city streets.
Well wrapped against the bitter cold
and biting wind.
People scurried like eager ants,
each intent on himself
seeing nothing but their own goal.
But one, did ever stand
unconcious of the cold.
A frail old man, thin gaunt and drawn,
leaned ever against a wall
and cried aloud with clearest voice
to the unseeing crowd;
"Have you seen the light?"
Repeatedly he stated his beliefs
suffering the bitter cold
to spread the Love of God
to all who passed.
But
none would heed or take
or listen to his bold
"I have".

I just finished reading a book called A Child Called 'It'. I suggest you read it, it prompted me two write a poem of my own (in the Our Little Poets thread) and to drag up this lyric , I'll hand you over to Mozza. . .

Please don't cry
For the ghost and the storm outside
Will not invade this sacred shrine
Nor infiltrate your mind
My life down I shall lie
If the bogey-man should try
To play tricks on your sacred mind
To tease, torment, and tantalise
Wavering shadows loom
A piano plays in an empty room
There'll be blood on the cleaver tonight
And when darknesss lifts and the room is bright
I'll still be by your side
For you are all that matters
And I'll love you to till the day I die
There never need be longing in your eyes
As long as the hand that rocks the cradle is mine
Ceiling shadows shimmy by
And when the wardrobe towers like a beast of prey
There's sadness in your beautiful eyes
Oh, your untouched, unsoiled, wonderous eyes
My life down I shall lie
Should restless spirits try
To play tricks on your sacred mind
I once had a child, and it saved my life
And I never even asked his name
I just looked into his wondrous eyes
And said : "never never never again"
And all too soon I did return
Just like a moth to a flame
So rattle my bones all over the stones
I'm only a beggar-man whom nobody owns
Oh, see how words as old as sin
Fit me like a glove
I'm here and here I'll stay
Together we lie, together we pray
There never need be longing in your eyes
As long as the hand that rocks the cradle is mine
As long as the hand that rocks the cradle is mine
Mine
Climb up on my knee, sonny boy
Although you're only three, sonny boy
You're - you're mine
And your mother she just never knew
Oh, your mother ...
As long ... as long ... as long
I did my best for her
I did my best for her
As long ... as long ... as long as ... as long
I did my best for her
I did my best for her
Oh ...

26 Sep 2003, 20:15
A friend of mine opened his wife's underwear drawer and picked up a silk paper wrapped package:

"This, - he said - isn't any ordinary package."

He unwrapped the box and stared at both the silk paper and the box.

"She got this he first time we went to New York, 8 or 9 years ago. She has never put it on. Was saving it for a special occasion.

Well, I guess this is it. He got near the bed and placed the gift box next to the other clothings he was taking to the funeral huouse, his wife had just died. He turned to me and said:

"Never save something for a special occasion. Every day in your life is a special occasion."

I still think those words changed my life.

Now I read more and clean less.

I sit on the porch without worrying about anything.

I spend more time with my family, and less at work.

I understood that life should be a source of experience to be lived up to, not survived through. I no longer keep anything. I use crystal glasses every day. I'll wear new clothes to go to the supermarket, if I feel like it.

I don't save my special perfume for special occasions, I use it whenever I want to. The words "Someday....." and "One day...." are fading away from my dictionary, if it's worth seeing, listening or doing, I want to see it, listen or do it now. I don't know what my friends wife would have done if she knew she wouldn't be there the next morning, this nobody can tell.
I think she might have called her relatives and closest friends, she might call old friends to make peace over past quarrels. I'd like to think she would go out for Chinese, her favourite food.

It's these small things that I would regret not doing., if I knew my time had come.

I would regret it, because I would no longer see the friends I would meet,, letters...letters that I wanted to write "One of these days"
I would regret and feel sad, because I didn't say to my brothers and sons, not times enough at least, how much I love them.

Now I try not to delay, postpone or keep anything that could bring laughter and joy into our lives.

And on each morning, I say to myself that this could be a special day.

Each day, each hour, each minute, is special.

Hélas

To drift with every passion till my soul
Is a stringed lute on which all winds can play,
Is it for this that I have given away
Mine ancient wisdom, and austere control?
Methinks my life is a twice-written scroll
Scrawled over on some boyish holiday
With idle songs for pipe and virelay,
Which do but mar the secret of the whole.
Surely there was a time I might have trod
The sunlit heights, and from life's dissonance
Struck one clear chord to reach the ears of God.
Is that time dead? lo! with a little rod
I did but touch the honey of romance—
And must I lose a soul's inheritance?

just a quote i like from Hard Times by Charles Dickens
a description of the town in the story...

"It contained several large streets all very like one another, and many smaller streets still more like one another, inhabited by people equally like one another, who all went in and out at the same hours, with the same sound upon the same pavements, to do the same work, and to whom everyday was the same as yesterday and tomorrow , and every year the counterpart of the last and the next."

To understand ourselves and others. Well, that's interesting. yesterday I listened Testify and the last verse on that song is so true:

Every cut that heals reveals a scar that you can
never hope to hide
All the pain that you restrain keeps building up
deep inside
If you think you're above it then it's you my
friend that I implore
You've got to walk before you run
See the night before dawn
Before you pull yourself off the floor

Especially the second and third sentence should be a lesson to everyone.

Make new friends, but keep the old;
those are silver, these are gold.
New-made friendships,like new wine,
age will mellow and refine.
Friendships that have stood the test-
time and change-are surely best.
Brow may wrinkle , hair grows grey;
Friendship never knows decay.
For mid old friends, tried and true,
Once more our youth renew.
Cherish friendship in your breast-
New s good , but old is best;
Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.

Give A Little Time

Give a little time
talk with me,
stay awhile.
Tell me how you are,
What you've been doing,
we can laugh
and smile,
and share our thoughts
together.
Give a little time
talk a while
and while we chatter,
we can discuss important things,
and those that just don't matter
to anyone but us.
Problems seem lighter
and the world a better place
after time spent in your company
shared thoughts
and laughter.
So give a little time,
stay a while
and talk

How to be Happy

Accept that every change in life, however positive, brings with it some kind of loss. Change is often something we resist initially, because it's so much easier to stay with the familiar than stepping into the unknown. If you can consider and accept knowledge, the losses, won't have a nasty habit of ambushing you. Change is necessary for us to evolve as people. Try to embrace it.

Yes i will find my dream.

I will search
Life's many-mirrored pathways
Where the light always reflects and bends
distorting our vision of the future
that we seek to comprehend.

I will search
through the softly turning seasons
through the times of love and hate
through our world's maze of confusion
that man for himself creates.

I will search
within man's self-made city cage
where he is chained always to work for Time
and i will search the wild and lonely ways
until i find this dream of mine.

I will search wherever Life may take me
I will search until i find my dream.

This One's For You

These words are for you
Whoever you may be
May you read these words and know
That they are for you and you alone

The sky will never crumble
It lies on a pillar of hope
The mountains will never fall
They're propped on the strength of your heart

As long as you read these words
You'll be safe from any harm
As long as you know that someone cares
They can't touch a hair on your head

So know that this one's for you
And you'll never be alone

Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow creeps in this petty pace from day to day to the last syllable of recorded time, and all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle. Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

What is a youth

What is a youth? impetous fire!
What is a maid? Ice and desire!
The world rags on.
A rose will bloom, it then will fade.
So does a youth, so does the fairest maid.

Comes a time, when one sweet smile,
Has its season for a while,
Then love's in love with me,.
Some they think only to marry,
Others will tease and tarry.
Mine is the very best parry.
Cupid he rules us all.

Love Song from Romeo and Juliet original version 1968

Love is a pastime that never will pall;
Sweeter than honey and bitter as gall,
Cupid he rules us all.

Okay this is gonna sound really corny but the posts here have inspired me (and made me cry) so i want to thank you dottie (and everyone else) for all your beautiful and thought provoking comments.
These are words that my mum gave to me when my little girl was born (don't know who its by) but thought it should have its place here.

A MOTHERS LOVE

Someday when my children are old enough to understand I will tell them...

I loved you enough to ask about where you were going, with whom and what time you would be home

I loved you enough to insist that you buy a bike, that I could afford to give you, with your own money

I loved you enough to make you return a milky way, with a bite out of it, and to confess "I stole this"

I loved you enough to let you see hurt, disappointment, disgust and tears in my eyes

I loved you enough to admit I was wrong and ask for your forgiveness

I loved you enough to let you stumble, fall and hurt

But most of all, I loved you enough to say NO when you hated me for it.
That was the hardest part of all.

But most of all, I loved you enough to say NO when you hated me for it.That was the hardest part of all.

This line really made me stop and think - especially about all the crap i put my mother through when i was a teen - god...if i could only turn the clock back now.....

It reminds me of a song my mother sometimes sings....

A mother's love's a blessing,
No matter where you roam.
Keep her while she's living,
You'll miss her when she's gone.
Love her as in childhood,
Though feeble,old and grey.
For you'll never miss your mother's love,
Till she's buried beneath the clay.

A Poem of Hope - composed by a young girl in Belarus, Russia, near the site of the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster Area.

One Song can spark a moment,
One flower can wake the dream,
One tree can start a forest,
One bird can herald spring,
One smile begins a friendship,
One handclasp lifts a soul,
One star can guide a ship at sea,
One word can frame the goal,
One vote can change a nation,
One sunbeam lights a room,
One candle wipes out darkness,
One laugh will conquer gloom,
One step must start each journey,
One word must start each prayer,
One hope will raise our spirits,
One touch can show you care,
One voice can speak with wisdom,
One heart can know what's true,
One life can make the difference,
You see, it's up to YOU!

WOW :!: i've just found this thread, thankyou Dottie for starting this thread & to the others who have contributed. I've also got a few of these, sent to me by friends. Heres one which always makes me smile, it isn't that profound:
If you lived as a child in the 40's, 50's, 60's or 70's, looking back, it's hard to believe that we have lived as long as we have.

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags. Our cots were covered with bright coloured lead-based paint.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors, or cupboards, & when we rode our bikes we had no helmets.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. Horrors

We’d spend hours building go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times we learned to solve the problem.

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. No mobile phones. Unthinkable!!

We got cut & broke bones & teeth, & there were no law suits from these accidents. They were accidents. No one was to blame, but us.

Remember accidents?

We had fights & punched each other & got black & blue & learned to get over it.

We ate patty cakes, bread and butter, and drank cordial, but we were never overweight...we were always outside playing.

We shared one drink with four friends, from one bottle & no one died from this.

We didn’t have PlayStations, Gamecube, X-Boxes, video games, 65 channels on pay TV, videos, surround sound, mobile phones, Personal Computers, Internet chat rooms ... we had friends. We went outside & found them.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's home and knocked on the door, or rung the bell, or just walked in & talked to them. Imagine such a thing. Without asking a parent! By ourselves! Out there in the cold cruel world! Without a guardian - how did we do it?

We made up games with sticks & tennis balls, & ate worms, & although we were told it would happen, we didn’t put out very many eyes, nor did the worms live inside us forever.

Football & Netball had tryouts & not everyone made the team. Those who didn’t had to learn to deal with disappointment...

Some students weren't as smart as others, so they failed a grade & were held back to repeat the same grade. Tests weren’t adjusted for any reason.
Our actions were our own. Consequences were expected. No one to hide behind. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law - imagine that!
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers and problem solvers and inventors, ever. The past 50 years has been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and
responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all. And you're one of them.

Congratulations!

Aye & we were lucky to have a packet of gravel to call our own!! Luxury!!!

My little contribution. It's long but very moving.

[b]TO MY CHILD

Just for this morning, I am going to smile when I see your face and laugh when I fel like crying.

Just for this morning, I will let you choose what you want to wear, and smile and say how perfect it is.

Just for this morning, I am going to step over the laundry, and pick you up and take you to the park to play.

Just for this morning, I will leave the dishes in the sink, and let you teach me how to put that puzzle of yours together.

Just for this afternoon, I will unplug the telephone and keep the computer off, and sit with you in the backyard and blow bubbles.

Just for this afternoon, I will not yell once, not even a tiny grumble when you scream and whine for the ice cream van, and I will buy you one if he comes by.

Just for this afternoon, I won't worry about what you are going to be when you grow up, or second guess every decision I have made where you are concerned.

Just for this afternoon, I will let you help me bake cookies, and I won't stand over you trying to fix them.

Just for this afternoon, I will take us to McDonald's and buy us both a Happy Meal so you can have both toys.

Just for this evening, I will let you splash in the tub and not get angry.

Just for this evening, I will let you stay up late while we sit on the porch and count all the stars.

Just for this evening, I will snuggle beside you for hours, and miss my favourite TV shows.

Just for this evening, when I run my fingers through your hair as you pray, I will simply be grateful that God has given me the greatest gift ever.

I will think about all the mothers and fathers who are searching for their missing children, the mothers and fathers who are visiting their childrens graves instead of their bedrooms, and mothers and fathers who are in hospital rooms watching their children suffer senselessly, and screaming inside that they can't handle it any more.

And when I kiss you goodnight I will hold you a little tighter, a little longer. It is then , that I will thank God for you, and ask him for nothing, except one more day.....

Love

Thank You

To those of you who laughed at me, thank you.
Without you I wouldn't have cried.

To those of you who just couldn't love me, thank you.
Without you I wouldn't have known real love.

To those of you who hurt my feelings, thank you.
Without you I wouldn't have felt them.

To those of you who left me lonely, thank you.
Without you I wouldn't have discovered myself.

But it is to those of you, who thought I couldn't do it.
It is you I thank the most.

Because without you I wouldn't have tried.

MUSIC - By Josh

Thank the world for music,
For it is what holds my heart and soul together,
When life brings me down,
The rhythm brings me up,
When disappointment rains on me,
The beat parts the clouds,
When desperation dries me out,
The voice is my ocean,
When sadness enters my heart,
The tempo pushes it aside with joy,
Without music my life would be
Silent.

"But don't forget the songs
That made you smile
And the songs that made you cry
When you lay in awe
On the bedroom floor
And said : "Oh, oh, smother me Mother..."
No ...
Rubber ring, rubber ring, rubber ring, rubber ring
La ...

The passing of time
And all of its crimes
Is making me sad again
The passing of time
And all of its sickening crimes
Is making me sad again
But don't forget the songs
That made you cry
And the songs that saved your life
Yes, you're older now
And you're a clever swine
But they were the only ones who ever stood by you " ~ Morrissey

This caused me to have a revalation, dunno why. . .but here we go.
I can't believe I had not heard this song until a few days ago . . .mind blowing stuff.

Hello, darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision
That was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
Beneath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed
By the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share...
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence.

"Fools," said I, "you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows."
"Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed in the wells of silence.

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming.
And the signs said: "The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls,
And whisper'd in the sound of silence."

Starry
starry night
paint your palette blue and grey

look out on a summer's day
with eyes that know the
darkness in my soul.
Shadows on the hills
sketch the trees and the daffodils

catch the breeze and the winter chills

in colors on the snowy linen land.
And now I understand what you tried to say to me

how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
they did not know how

perhaps they'll listen now.

Starry
starry night
flaming flo'rs that brightly blaze

swirling clouds in violet haze reflect in
Vincent's eyes of China blue.
Colors changing hue
morning fields of amber grain

weathered faces lined in pain
are soothed beneath the artist's
loving hand.
And now I understand what you tried to say to me

how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
perhaps they'll listen now.

For they could not love you
but still your love was true

and when no hope was left in sight on that starry
starry night.
You took your life
as lovers often do;
But I could have told you
Vincent
this world was never
meant for one
as beautiful as you.

Starry
starry night
portraits hung in empty halls

frameless heads on nameless walls
with eyes
that watch the world and can't forget.
Like the stranger that you've met

the ragged men in ragged clothes

the silver thorn of bloddy rose
lie crushed and broken
on the virgin snow.
And now I think I know what you tried to say to me

how you suffered for your sanity

how you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
they're not
list'ning still
perhaps they never will.

THE WILDERNESS

This is the wilderness my uncle said:
A corner of the garden he'd let go,
Grass waist high and trees grown spindly
Because they were too close together,
A contrast to the rose beds, well mown lawn
And ranks of vegetables. There we would play
Where Indians, outlaws and rugged pioneers
Haunted that patch of wonder surviving
In a suburb.It's all gone now:childhood, uncle,
The patch sold to more determined gardeners.
To remember is to miss the place
Where imagination grew, lost now
In the cautious cultivation of our days.
"All gardens should have one," Uncle said,
We should have listened to him.

A woman should have one old love she can imagine going back to......and one who reminds her how far she has come

A woman should have a youth she's content to leave behind

A woman should have one friend who always makes her laugh...and one who lets her cry

A woman should have control over her destiny

Every woman should know how to fall in love without losing herself

Every woman should know what she would and wouldn't do for love

I don't care what you nay-sayers say, this is a cracking lyric:

All around me are familiar faces,
Worn out places, worn out faces.
Bright and early for the daily races,
Going nowhere, going nowhere.
And the tears are filling up their glasses,
No expression, no expression.
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow,
No tomorrow, no tomorrow.

Children waiting for the day they feel good,
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday.
Made to feel the way that every child should,
Sit and listen, sit and listen.
I went to school, I was very nervous,
No one knew me, no one knew me.
Hello Teacher, tell me "What's my lesson?",
Look right through me, look right through me.

And I find it kind of funny,
I find it kind of sad,
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had. . .
I find it hard to tell you,
I find it hard to take,
When people run in circles, it's a very, very. . .
Mad World,
Mad World,
Enlarging your world. . .

There is in truth no past, only a memory of the past. Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. Therefore the only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it. --Terry Pratchett, Thief of Time

This is a poem about how i felt when nan died. It's not a rhyming one.

For five solid months you were ill
I couldn't stand seeing you
lying there, your head resting on a pillow
Pain has driven you mad.

I recognise the irony nan
my mother and i were fighting
when we got the call
that stopped us.

The tubes they put in you
they are like knives to me
watching you lie there
but you depend on those tubes

a woman as strong as you
How comes that the head
that has helped you survive
kill you in this way?

When you died
i didn't know what to think
releif or sorry
that you had left the agony

All i know is this
you were my second mother
I am only grateful that i knew you
and that i called you Nanny.

I love you nanny lil. X

I haven't got time for the good things in life
A game with the kids or a kiss for the wife
I must read the paper or finish this letter
I've no time for a word that'll make things better
Don't disturb me now while I'm watching the news
A political hiccup counts more than your views
I haven't got time to tell you I care
I must get ready and tidy my hair
I was far to busy to notice you cry
And I was far to busy when you said goodbye

>>-somebody is thinking of you.
>>-somebody is caring about you.
>>-somebody misses you
>>-somebody wants to talk to you.
>>-somebody wants to be with you.
>>-somebody hopes you aren't in trouble.
>>-somebody is thankful for the support you have provided.
>>-somebody wants to hold your hand.
>>-somebody hopes everything turns out all right.
>>-somebody wants you to be happy.
>>-somebody wants you to find him/her.
>>-somebody is celebrating your successes
>>-somebody wants to give you a gift.
>>-somebody thinks that you ARE a gift.
>>-somebody loves you.
>>-somebody admires your strength.
>>-somebody is thinking of you and smiling.
>>-somebody wants to be your shoulder to cry on.

A Mother, Not a Friend
You can see me, but you just glance at me.

You talk to me, but you’re not listening.

You feel me, but you don’t hold me.

You act like my friend, but you’re my mother.

You need to understand

I need a mother, not a friend.—Melissa

Your're my friend,
my companion,
through the good times,
and bad,
my friend,
my buddy,
through happy and sad,
beside me you walk,
beside me you stand,
beside me you listen,
your're there to talk,
with happiness,
with smiles,
with pain and tears,
I know you'll be there,
throughout the years!
You are all good friends to me,
andIam grateful to you.

thought this was rather apt for all of you on the forum

Sharing Love - Iris Hesselden

Have you a song within your heart,
Have you a smile to share?
Have you a moment in the day
To show someone you care?
Have you the time to be a friend
And listen when they call?
Have you the courage every day
To step out, walking tall?

Have you a hope for all makind
Whatever faith or creed?
Have you the strength to show the way
To those who are in need?
If you've a song, a smile, a hope,
A special dream or two,
You have discovered love, my friend,
And love discovered you!

There is a lovely Indian belief that everyone is a house with four rooms. One is physical, one mental, one emotional and one - perhaps most important of all - spiritual.

To live a complete life, the belief goes on, we should visit each room every day and open the window to keep it aired and fresh.

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is bliss,taste it.
Life is a dream, realise it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfil it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.

We need the power of love, not the love of power.

Let us make silver linings with other people's clouds.

People need love especially when they don't deserve it.

When you have happiness, don't hoard it. The more of it you give away, the more you'll still have.

Life's Little Instructions

Keep it simple.

Be forgiving of yourself and others.

Compliment three people each day.

Never waste an opportunity to let someone know you love them.

Become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know.

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says: "I'll try again tomorrow"

Take a moment today to tell someone you know how much you appreciate them but have somehow forgotten to tell them. Say thank you now for that recent good deed, that kindly thought by friend or stranger.

Tragedies strike at both personal and international level and at such times we realise how seldom we tell our love ones just how much they mean to us.

A "hug" can say a thousand words.

Bonfire

I'd like to build a bonfire
And ask the human race
To bring along its clutter
And pile it into place.

We'd heap it with our misdeeds,
Our hatred and our fears,
And all the petty grudges that
We've clung to through the years.

We'd fling on spite and malice,
And ugly gossip too,
Then watch the flames rise higher
As they burned the rubbish through.

And when at last the ashes
Grow cool and blow away
How shining bright would be the world,
How glorious the day.

I miss you but I cannot make you miss me..........

I miss you, but I cannot make you miss me.
I need you, but you do not know my need.
I want you, but I cannot make you kiss me.
I suffer, but I cannot make you bleed.
I beseech you, but you will not be bequiled.
The door's locked, and you will not let me in.
Your're my mother? but I cannot be your child.
I've lost you, and I can't take back my sin.
Like on earth no longer with its sun.
Shooting towards eternity alone.
I no longer circle anyone.
An aimless, mindless, wandering piece of stone.
Ah, Mother! It would be so sad if we
Would journey through to darkness separately.

For my absent Mother who disappeared when I was 1 year old...........
