I suspect the same thing... Thought the same with Yes Man, and was right, the book is hilarious and well worth a read if you haven't already, but the film was pants.... Still, I'll probably see Time Traveller's anyway...

I am not saying I won't see it...but I suspected it may not be very good...but I have never thought of this...book is written with beautiful words...you don't need any visuals...movie HAS TO have visuals...it HAS TO show love...which apparently shows in some places as somewhat...ahem...pedophilian...

I'm really hooked, I've laughed out loud and I'm finding it really fascinating how he started and personally I find it really interesting, but obviously won't appeal to everyone but I can't put it down, every spare moment I have I read a bit more .

i tried to find Spycatcher interesting, given the fact that it was incredibly controversial when it came out, in 1987 i think?.
I read it when I was a journalism student as it was recommended by one of our tutors as essential reading.
Suffice to say I did and normally the spy game and hisotry would appeal to me, but it seemed to try to suck the life out of the reader, maybe hoping no one else would remember any revelations from it!

Pride and Prejudice by Ms. Jane Austen
May I quote this very funny little scene between Mr. Bennet and his missus:
Mrs. Bennet: "You take delight in vexing me. You have no compassion on my poor nerves."
Mr. Bennet: "You mistake me, my dear. I have a high respect for your nerves. They are my old friends. I have heard you mention them with consideration these twenty years at least."
I love Jane Austen, there was another similarly funny scene in Sense and Sensibility when she described how a mother spoils her little girl with marmalade every time she gets mad. Wonderful.

thanks for those bits Bubbles... i haven't a clue why but i was never "forced" to read the classics in school !! ... all i really remember was trying to decipher Shakespeare ! ... lol ... not good at it was i i'm afraid... lol ... i think the best time in English class i had may have been in ... hmmm ... 9th grade maybe ?? ... anyroad... thanks again ... i'll look up Jane Austen next time i'm to the Salvation Army store ... i pick up alot of good books there including classics for near to naught !!! ...

Gone with the wind, Wuthering Heights, Noughts and Crosses and the time travellers wife are the ones I can think of off the top of my head

Great series. Eddings is a cracking author.
They're the sort of books that I re-read pretty much every year, easy going, with enough to keep me interested...
About to start series 2, book 2....

I think it's Charlain HArris that True Blood is based on isn't it? Love that show!
Anyway, just reading The Burning Wire by Jeffrey Deaver. Very good as always, but just a little bit samey. Still, can't wait to see what he does with Bond!

Mick Foley has 3 books (I think) ab out his 'wrestling life' Have a nice day, foley is good and the hardcore diaries, they are all great. Have a nice day is about 500 pages (as is BH book) but its a great read.
Ric Flair has at least one book out, he slates Mick Foley in it, they really do hate each other. Ive not read it, but I keep saying Im going to.
Ive never seen the film, I must watch it. Johnny Depp is also playing Paul Kemp, in the fiml adaptation of The Rum Diary, another Hunter book. Wich is a great read, very 'hemmingway' the way it was wrote!
Hope your enjoying Angels and Demons :)

Still working through Dan Browns' - The Lost Symbol
It's a great read so far
You really think so? I thought it was very poor, clearly written for the film franchise, much like the later Hannibal Lechter books from Thomas Harris. I'd worked out the ending about a third of the way through the book, unlike Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code which both kept me more gripped. I think Mr Brown's day is done, he should retire Langdon and go back to writing below mediocre thrillers liek the other two he's written the titles of which I can't remember.
I'm still reading Angels & Demons by Dan Brown. Once again, I'm only reading while on the bus to and fro the day job. Perhaps it's time to turn off the computer and tv for an evening of reading.
Ohhh The Lost Symbol...biggest let down ever. Spent weeks and months looking forward to that coming out, we even ordered two copies so Andy and I didn't have to wait for the first person to finish reading it...what a waste of hours! I adore Dan Brown books but this was hideous, there was one "twist" that I didn't see coming but bar that it was a total let down. It'll probably be a good film as it'll be more direct, we both had the feeling that it was like reading something that'd been written for film and then padded out to make it long enough to be a good book. Total let down! :(

Finally finished The Lost Symbol...f*ck me what a drag. It started off really well but it's about 200 pages too long. Dan Brown spoiled the plot by over-explaining shit that had absolutely sod all to do with anything relevent. Reminded me of when I was at school and was given a 1000 word essay but I could only manage 800, so I filled it out by throwing any old shit in there. As Lucy mentions, it'll probably be a good film.

I finally painfully finished this extremely unfunny book however, I am nearly finished a delicious one called The Kite Runner. It's by Khaled Hossein and is the story of two boys growing up in Afghanistan. The Washington Post World said ~ "A powerful book... no frills, no nonsense, just hard, spare prose... an intimate account of family and friendship, betrayal and salvatoin that requires no atlas or translation to engage and enlighten us. Parts of The Kite Runner are raw and excruciating to read, yet the book in its entirety is lovingly written"... and that's exactly right. There's moments so shocking, sad and blunt that I found myself slamming the book shut and in tears, even on the bus... Yet others I am hugging the book to myself and enjoying the moment ... It's unfortunate in its way that I recognize the towns mentioned in the book, unfortunate for the fact I know them from news of the war that continues there... but it is bringing the towns to life for me ... and I find that interesting... Yes, there are the bad guys, but there's the good guys, too... xo

Oh, gosh... lol ... I forget what the heck the book was about !!! I'm sure I liked it, though... hmmm ... good gravy davy... Anyway, next read was Message In A Bottle, I forget the author, but it started out alright for me, but then, I found it to be hokey and sappy and I found the main female character to be deceitful. And I know the book was made into film with, oh gosh... Why do I KEVIN COSNER... I always want to call him Warren something... lol ... At anyrate, KC played the male lead and I've always found him to be a bit of a mope. Kevin Cosner, that is, and I couldn't get his mopiness out my mind and I think it really ruined the story for me entirely. The author is male and imo, he made the female characters a bit too giddy for their ages. Imagine ME saying that... lol ...
Anyway, now I'm on to No Time For Goodbye by Linwood Barclay. I felt the concept good and was going along with it as an easy read and then, well, the police in the story didn't follow-up on something the way I felt they should. I wonder if that's part of the plot or just writing that imo is a bit shoddy ? We'll see...

 I've been on a Stephen King marathon myself lately.
At the moment i'm in the middle of Cell (the end of the world via mobile phone).
I read Misery years ago and think it's an awesome book.
The Shining is something else.
I read somewhere that SK never forgave Stanley Kubrick for the film adaptation. While that's not always a good indicator of a good movie, it was enough to put me off for long time, which also caused a general negative towards the whole story.
Then I caight some of the mini series on TV, and really enjoyed it.
Bought it on ebay and watched the whole thing, thought it was great.
So then I watched the SK version, and thought it was OK (different from the series, but nothing I could see causing so much offence to SK :wtf: ).
So the book was recommended to me a few weeks ago, but I still had a stack of books to read, but now i'm coming to the end i'm putting The Shining on my to do list 8)

I've finished No Time For Goodbye. It turned out pretty okay... plot twists here and there and then I thought... "oh is THAT all it was ?" ... and I did think that one character was not to be trusted and I was right ! He was just too calm and cool about the whole thing. All in all, a decent read.
Now on to a very fave author, Jonathan Kellerman and his character, Dr. Alex Delaware in Obsession. I'm looking forward to a good read. So far so good. My curiousity is peeked to the hilt ! Well the books came today. Never have I got through the first 70 pages of a book so quickly! It's a fantastic read, and is just like an episode of Monk. Written through the eyes of Natalie. It has all the comedy and mystery of the series. Will have to order more!

Through the eyes of Natalie ! That's an interesting concept. It sounds like a fun read. Natalie's a great character, bless her... lol ... I'm glad you're enjoying the book. I'm still reading Obsession. I haven't been at it for a couple of days. Maybe I'll find the time today ...

 Just finished A Game Of Spies and have finally started The Shinning.
Re-reading Eragon to scour for clues, after the suprise revelations in Brisingr.
My mother-in-law dropped off a stack of Danielle Steel paperbacks not too long ago. I ignored them for a time, and then two nights ago, for lack of anything else, I picked up "Honor Thyself", and now find myself caught up in the mindless but nevertheless entertaining tale she weaves! Oh well.

Halfway through 'Moab Is My Washpot' - Stephen Fry's autobiography part I! Usually I prefer novels, but his writing style is brilliant! Can't wait to start 'The Fry Chronicles' ( the second part )! How cool is that, to write the second part of your own bio with only 54!
