I don't think I've heard AFL that good live since the 93/94 performances!

I agree, and thanks for posting this! :) AFL was stunningly good, and actually the whole little show was thrilling! It was one of those times when he is just absolutely on top of it all. He piled out of that Bat-Mobile and charged toward the stage, talking to the cameras and gesturing all the way :) and then gave a knockout performance. I think it was good for him too, because a lot of people saw that show! I was traveling a couple days later and people brought it up, and commented favorably on it.

question is... can anyone find a link to the DEFINITIVE version? ;) (the recording from the Bat II Picture Show video, obviously..)

That's not the definitive version. Meat sings the first verse twice instead of the second verse. The best one I've heard is from the Hudson Theater and is on the Bat 2 special edition and a couple of Bat 2 singles.

I have - I own the CD - but I still don't think it touches the Bat II Picture Show version :-)

How can it be if there are mistakes in it?

Because it's generally awesome, the performance is amazing, and Meat's voice is the best I've ever heard on a AFL live performance. I don't care about the mistakes. :-) TBH, I never even noticed them!!

I like the History of meat loaf version, closely followed by the LATW version, in terms of favourite performance. Again I just think it's the energy.
The Life is a lemon performance from the same show is definitely the best live performance of that song imo

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great performance from a great show. I'd love to hear an uncut version of RARD from that show. It's just that for me the definitive version would have to have the right words in the right order. That limits it to the LATW version and the Hudson Theater version. I think the latter is better.
latw and hudson versions sound so similar its hard to choose.
but i think it has to be the cardiff 1993 performance.
he nailed every verse and that guitar riff at the beggining is in tact that the latw/hudson shows didnt have

Plus it was damn cold that morning in NYC, but he definitely nailed it!:-):-)

It has a habit of turning up here and there. The Cardiff bootleg is great as it is full concert, but I'm sure Meat has much better stuff stashed away in his collection. There's too much feedback throughout the concert. I assume someone kept getting too close to a speaker? But with that said, there is one word in the English language that will destroy... ;)

and that is fear.
god we are bootleg junkies
meat has the hudson footage, the other toads place type concert, soundboards to the lb&gg tour and all other tours, has a unedited bad attitude concert, unedited neighborhood concerts, and -most lustingly- the dead ringer footage & 1981 bfg vocal tracks.
so lucky if you're meat's butler

I have that video, it's really great. It's actually up on ebay at the moment. It tends to pop up every now and then.

If ever there was a Meat video crying out for a DVD release... well, I know people here might want something a little rarer, but I'd be totally happy with Bat II Picture Show! :-D

Hi all, my first post on here.
Agree that this performance is a really great one. In terms of a definitive version - I'd have to throw Meat's performance at the Brit Awards from early '94 into the ring as well. I know it was a shortened version of it but Meat's energy on it was awesome. I remember taping it on VHS off the TV at the time - I later gave my friend a loan of said tape who lost it. Gutted! Never saw it again until I found it on YouTube a couple of years ago.
Would love to see the Bat 2 Picture show on DVD - although isn't some of the stuff on the DVD in the Bat 2 special edition? I have the vhs which I got for Christmas when it came out but I don't even have a VCR anymore.
