This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic.
Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!
Did I Say That? (7)
Good song. I love the first part of this song but I don't like when it's starting change and turn into fast and turn into slow... I think the guitar isn't the best in this song. Well, wait a minute! I'll finish the negative critics...
My score: 7
Average: 9.11 (328/36)

i really like this one 9
the rare song where the single edit is better than the album version
still, it's best on CHSIB IMO so it gets a 9

I really enjoy this song, I would rate it a 9. The only thing that bothers me about it is that darn car alarm sound after the first chorus that apparently only I can hear. (Sound effects in your head- is that worse than voices in your head?)

I like this song, but it is not my favorite. I like the fact that the tempo changes often but the "Did I Say That" is repeated a few too many times in my opinion. I listen, but can never hear that car door .....
My vote would be 8/10

I'd give it a 9 too as it's the second best track on CHSIB. CHSIB itself gets a 10.

Love DIST too. Took me while to 'get used' to this song. I also don't play it every day, like CHSIB and other songs of the album.
This is a song I have to be in the right mood for.
However brilliant lyrics AND vocals (once again), can relate to 'the story-line' very well, that must be one of the reasons for me to rate it this high.
9,5/10

I do really like this one - this should have been released as a single over here. :D
9/10
Not the best song of this album. I think it is too long. The end is good, the beginning also.
My score: 7
I like this one - I'd give it a 9/10

I do like this track, but there are parts of it that bug me, I'm not musical and don't understand the compleities of the construction etc just what I like. There's one part that just makes me hum the theme from "friends" and I find that puts me off rather 8)

Was not too sure about this song when I first heard it. The weak ending on the single edit did not help because that was always the last impression I had of the song. However the full version removes that problem and though this song never instantly hit me like CHSIB it has grown on me a lot over the last couple of months. So much so that I rate this as my equal favourite song on the album with the title track
9 out of 10
The last part is magnificent. The whole song is superb. what a fine, sensitive vocal performing. 9/10.
This is not a good song, it's Great!!
I think it's the best song of CHSIB, although there are many other good songs on is.
I give it a 9!
Only some Steiman-written songs are better than this one, because of their beautifull lyrics. This song has good lyrics, but not as amazing as some Steinman-song.

I was almost going to say that I like the single edit better than te album version, but I won't.
At first I thought that the second verse ("And this is what it sounds like...") should have been cut, but now it seems right. But the main point while I like the full version better, is the string section right behind the second chorus.
After that the pace keeps building up to the end, and the passion and desperation of the main character ("Did I say that?") makes the shivers run down my spine. At that point, I can't help myself but going into that trance like state, which ends when the final verse sets in...
The tempo changes make the song very dynamic, the lyrics are fab, although I'm still trying to find out what's really going on....
Again, one of the best on the album, and like Couldn't Have Said It Better, a 8.5 out of 10
Love this one too, pity it didn't get released as a single over hear.Good lyrics/music

First time I heard it it blew me away .. love the shifts in tempo .. the lyrics .. the delivery .. and the video imo captures perfectly the whirling emotions and almost angry despair conveyed in the song ..
9/10 is an over modest self-assessment Meat that doesn't do you justice here .. to use a family term .. it's AFA!!!!!
I do really like this one - this should have been released as a single over here. :D
9/10
Heat totally agree with you - I honestly believe if this song was released over here, then it would go to No. 1This is my favourite record above all else on chsib 10/10

I also like this song very much, it's next to CHSIB and Testify one of my favourites on the new album, so it gets from me a 9/10.

10/10, very powerful and emotional song, love it to bits. :D
Since reading Sherries' post re. hearing car alarm on 'Did I say that' ( sorry would quote but ashamed to say don't know how  ) each time I have listened to it since I have listened out for the alarm but came up with nothing. That is until today, I was in my car driving along music full blast playing 'Did I say that' and low and behold there it was what sounded like an alarm..... or was it a siren. Then it dawned on me it was a siren a police car over taking me on the way to some emergency. Silly me
Sorry Sherrie still have not heard the car alarm after all. Definately a great song though!!!!!

Terri-
At least he wasn't pulling you over! I've played the song for my husband and he doesn't hear it either. I hear it every time, even when I'm not listening for it. Maybe it's some odd frequency or something. (I seem to recall that one or two others here heard it too, so I'm not hearing things! Honest! :P
Sherrie
I hear somethin ticking in the first 30 seconds of the song.
I forgot something: you'll only hear it with the headphones.
I really like this song, it has a certain power...can't explain, it speak so to say
9.5/10
Another great song, I love how it picks up speed towards the end.

A really great complex love song.
Meat says 9/10
Quigmo says 10/10
Geez, Meat. Being a little hard on yourself aren't ya? Face it, this a really good tune. It has a really well done studio production and you nailed the vocal. It will stand the test of time.
The voice 11\10.
The music 11\10.
The mood 11\10.
The voice is super strong, and stays true to the lyrics. Stunningly beautiful. The backing vocals blend in very well!
The music is super amazing, I love every note played!
The mood is so true, and pefects the song in. A true meaning to a song! Great songwriting!
and over all 12\10

I think this is actually my favourite song on the album, and it is the first song I ever heard off CHSIB.
This is the song that made me buy the album.
I get shivers down my spine every time I listen to the end - I LOVE endings like this, where Meat screams out the line, and the backing singers "fill in".
I'm Gonna Love Her For Both Of Us is my favourite ever Meat song, and DIST comes extremely close. I would say 10 out of 10 is an understatement - Meat's voice is PERFECT, the pace is great, some beatiful instrumentation, so much drama and emotion.
10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10

I heard it, Sherrie, you are not the only one :D . It's not really an alarm. But I heard it. People, its right before the part where they start going in to the, "But it sounded like a lie" where he says "sounded" you hear it. This is just before the " Did I Say That? Did I Say That? Oh did I tell you that I loved you cause it would have been a fact. This time i'm not letting g0 - did I say that?. Hope this helps, and not too confusing
not my favourite off the album but still 9/10!

By the way - on the subject of a single release and a #1, I think it easily has the potential.
Great song, great video, Meat's boundless energy.
However, one little thing stands in the way of this being a sucess.
Mercury.
With such poor promotion efforts from this label, I don't see how a single can hope to top the charts, however good it is.

This is really bugging me, but there's a line in the DIST backing vocals where I can't understand the words.
Meat sings "did I say that" and the backing vocals sing "this time I ......blah blah blah".
Does anyone know what they're actually singing?
read the lyric sheet! :D
Did I say that?
This time I'm not letting go
Did I say that?
This time I'll have and I'll hold
Did I tell you that I loved you cause it
Would have been a matter of fact?
Did I say that?
This time I'm walking through fire
Did I say that?
This time I'll feed your desire
Did I say that?
This time I'll stand by your side
Did I say that?
This time I will be your pride
Did I say that?
This time I'm not letting go
Did I say that?
This time I'll have and I'll hold
Did I say that?
This time I'm walking through fire
Did I say that?
And I wish that I could take it all back

Ooh thanks Bart. I didn't think the backing vocals would be included in the lyric sheet so I didn't look.

This is one my favourite Meat Loaf songs. It sums up his style perfectly. The live version is unbelievable.

It would have been nice to see Michael Bay direct some kind of amazing video for the song. This could have been the last part of the triogy:
"Anything for Love" - "I'd Lie for You" - "Did I Say That". I think the exisiting one is good but I believe the song has so much more potential and power that more time and effort could have been spent on the video. It would have been nice to see Meat riding into sunset with Dana Patrick again.
It's a great song! I love the lyrics!
My score: 9

Iīve noticed something:
IMO this is the only Meat song, where the single edit is nearly as good as the album version.
If you look at booh or afl some very(!) important parts are missing on the single edits, but here itīs well done.
Great song...people with quick temper surely do appreciate the lyrics and the changes in tempo...haha

I think this is a great song - Meat's best non-Steinman song. Although I heard people refer to James Michael as a Steinman imitator I think that's unfair. Naturally all of Meat's non-Steinman songs are compared to his Steinman stuff, but I think this is a brilliant song on its own merits.
Great lyrics, great production; love the up-tempo section of the song.
"The truth is hard to swallow when you're choking on your pride" is one of my favourite ever lyrics.

I dont think that the way the song is written is a try to compare with Jim, he just tried to write something in the typical Meat Loaf style, and naturally, that IS Jim Steinman.
Btw, when I heard this the first times, I always heard:
"The truth is hard to swallow when you're choking on your bride"
:lmao:
