Me neither, but I think this is another case of twisting the facts. This is not a poll to deceide wheter Meat or Jim is better, this poll was created to see what the people at the Rockman Record think are the
- Best overall Steinman Song:
- Best Steinman Album:
- Best Steinman Rock Song:
- Best Steinman Ballad:
- Best Vocal Performance in a Steinman Song:
- Best Guitar Work in a Steinman Song:
- Best Drumming in a Steinman Song:
- Most Emotionally Affecting Steinman Song:
- Artist Steinman Really Should NOT Have Worked With:
- Favorite Steinman Vocalist:
- Best Steinman Collaboration with Outside Writers (Productions):
- Best Steinman Collaboration with Outside Writers (Songs):
- Best Steinman-written Duet:
- Best Meat Loaf Song NOT Written by Jim Steinman:
- Best Bonnie Tyler Song NOT Written by Jim Steinman:
- Biggest Steinman 'Urban Legend':
- Steinman Remake that was Better than the Original:
- Steinman Original that was Better than the Remake:
- Best Steinman Spoken Word Piece:
See how that list only says "Meat Loaf" once? The thing that ties all those questions together, are the involvement (well, except in the two "NOT writen by" categories) of a certain Jim Steinman. It's not about Meat, it's not about Jim, it's about the music of Jim.
So saying "Go on over and vote for Meat Loaf in the Steinman Awards" is doing this innitiative a great disservice, and sounds like intended flame-bait (http://info.astrian.net/jargon/terms/f/flame_bait.html) to me. Booh!

Well I think it should be more about Meat than it is. But I guess its a Steinman site so who am I to argue? I don't see how suggesting we vote for Meat in the Steinman Awards is `flame-bait'. It is no more flame-bait than when politicians campaign for people to vote for them.
I agree Shane...
on the fact that asking people to vote there is not "flame-bait", whatever that means. I have an idea, but wonder what exactly that was intended to mean.
Many ML fans are big fans of Jim. I read the Jim board and get the Jimlist, already voted my preferences. Great idea on Karl's part, and I just don't see why posting it here is a problem.
Evil, methinks your experience w/ Crawford fans has made you a tad paranoid, probably very understandable. IMHO, folks here are nothing like that, just from what I've observed. BWTFDIK (Just for you M  .)
Hope anyone here who appreciates JS does take the time to vote there, for whatever they choose.

Well, it's not the Crawfans who got me paranoid... I think this (http://mlukfc.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1428) has a lot to do with it, as well as a comment made by David on MOTS... that really did sound like hijacking a good initiatve: "come on and vote for Meat Loaf, regardless what your personal opion is". To me, he sounded like he was trying to turn it into a Meat versus Jim thing. Either that, or I'm paranoid...
And Shane, I beg to disagree... why should a Steinman award be more about Meat? Jim has done lots more than only work with Meat, and vice-versa. And since you're an individual with an opinion of your own, you're a perfect candidate to argue... :-)

 At first I thought it was a great idea :D ,but I must admit that I do see Evil Nickname's point.
It is a Steinman poll,so to flood it with Meat votes just because we're Meat fans and we can, isn't really fair on the guys over at the Steinman site who follow everything that Jim does.I assume that they want a more rounded picture of Jim's work and a couple of hundred Meat heads jumping in isn't going to help their cause  .
Even though we all know Jim's best work was done with Meat

 Hi William.
I've just read your last post.We were posting at the same time and i'm too lazy to edit at the mo  .
I don't think that the "hijacking" was done with any ill intent.Basically, the guys on here support Meat in any way possible. If there is a vote somewhere on the net,you can bet someone will run back here to tell us all so we can all show our support :D .However this isn't a poll about music in general, this is a poll about the works of one man.As I said in my last post,I didn't think about that until reading your post, but I now appreciate the difference.
As for the here link you posted, please don't drag that up again :?
Meat is great.Jim is great. We love them both.End of story.
I'm sure you will agree that Jimmy got a lot of support from Meat fans, but it's an argument that can get very overheated and ugly and I reeeaaaalllllllyyyyyyyyy don't want to go there again.
Rock on.

Hi Mousy... ;-)
Just threw in that link to say that if was paranoid, that that thread had a lot to do with it... and yes, Meat and Jim are both great... that's what I've been posting there all along... some people (and I'm not pointing at you!) just don't get it...
William
I think this (http://mlukfc.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1428) has a lot to do with it, as well as a comment made by David on MOTS...
Evil Nickname, calm down a little. You should have no paranoia. This is not the Steinman Board, this is the MLUKFC. I was just having a little fun.
"come on and vote for Meat Loaf, regardless what your personal opion is"
No one ever said, or even hinted at this. I saw that Meat Loaf was nominated on that poll, and was bringing this to the attention of this board, nothing more - nothing less. I also thought it would be cool to let the Steinman people see just how much we support the best musical talent Jim Steinman has ever worked with.
Also, if you notice my post on MOTS was very much in jest. I went as far as to call the poll very:
"tounge-in-cheek"
I am sorry that you feel the way you do about this, but it was meant as just another Meat Loaf mention on the Internet. This board is not a place of paranoia, just the facts, plain and simple.

it was meant as just another Meat Loaf mention on the Internet.
My sentiment exactly
As for the other thread, that was started because of an article which was basically saying Meat can't do anything right without Jim 8O .That's downright silly. It's like saying that Jimmy can't write a good song unless it's for Meat.Ridiculous :? .
Take my advice and ignore 95% of what was said there.Tempers got a little hot and it turned into a stupid Meat Vs Jim debate.
Don't get paranoid over a thread where most of the talking was done in the heat of the moment  .

No one ever said, or even hinted at this.
And I said that, to me, it sounded like that. Opinion. I never said you said that, I said that it sounded like that. If it says "Go on over and vote for Meat Loaf in the Steinman Awards" it does not say: "Go on over and vote for whoever you want in the Steinman Awards" -- there's a difference, right?
I called it hijacking, because you seemed to turn the poll into something it's not. It's my opinion, and I'll stand by that.
And a question:
You should have no paranoia. This is not the Steinman Board, this is the MLUKFC.
What's that supposed to mean? In the last couple of weeks, I've seen people turn up there (admitting it was their first visit), and immideately try to stir things up by asking: "Why do you all hate Meat so much?", and complaining about "getting bad vibes" when they just "randomly browsed" the forum. I have a strong suspicion where they come from.... and then you may call it
not a place of paranoia, just the facts, plain and simple.
but when the facts, as mentioned by me in the post I linked to earlier, are intentionally being ignored, just start a fuss... well, paranoia kicks in...
William
And edited for a reply to Mousy:

My main beef in that thread was the fact that the facts were being raped, and the truth got twisted around. Just like Meat said "we" did.
I'm not a part of that "we" who "hates" Meat, so don't include me in that. And again, I'll stand by everything I said there.

i voted, and did it fairly, cos i agree with what mouse said.

Again, you are looking WAAAAAY too deeply into this matter. Had I said "go on over and vote for whoever you want" on this board would have been like going over to an *Nsync board and saying "go over and vote for the Backstreet Boys"
This was just a way to let people know of yet another way they could show Meat Loaf support on the Internet, on a Meat Loaf website - nothing more, nothing less. I am sorry you took it as more than that.
Been there done it R. - Meat Loaf reigns supreme

I agree, but because of the tensions that occur from time to time between those that are firmly in the `Jim' camp, and those firmly in the `Meat' camp, I can see how suggesting people to vote for the Meat-related options in the Jim poll can be interpreted as `flame-bait'. But I think this interpretation is unfortunate.
