View Full Version : Prize Fight Lover
By any chance, has Meat mentioned anywhere why this song didn't make the HCTB album? Its a really good tune, better than some songs that ARE on HCTB, and the somewhat raw vocal has really grown on me. It is thematically quite similar to Living on the Outside, so maybe they had to choose between them? Very curious...
You're absolutely correct. Meat posted on here that a while back that
they had to choose between Prize Fight Lover and Living On The Outside,
but Living On The Outside fit into the story line better.
I really like Prize Figh Lover too, and wish they could release it properly on a CD.

It's definitely my favourite song since the CHSIB songs or at least Alive/Blind as a Bat. Meat does sound a little more rough on there and methinks with all the pro tools engineering that went on on HCTB is maybe closer to his real voice in the studio. Why vocal engineering was then needed is a mystery as I think it doesn't make the other songs any better anyway.
Would have been a fantastic album opener or closer.

Is this song being played live at all? I hope it is for when it gets to New Zealand
Thanks! It feels okay to be correct once in awhile. Yeah, it may have been a little awkward to have both of these on the record because they're pretty much about the same thing (minus the crime spree implicit in LotO ;) PFL also sounds a little UNDERproduced to me. Vocally, I'd leave it alone, but I wouldn't mind if they went back and juiced up the musical tracks a bit. Maybe replace the synths w/ some baby grand?
Anyway, a great track regardless.
Pud - This would be a wonderful addition to the set list. Or rather, a substitution since there's no way they can go longer on the set. I've always wished Meat would do a "revolving" set on tour like some bands can. (I assume it comes down to all of the band being comfortable switching it up night to night? See them two nights in a row? Hear some different tunes!) PFL could easily sub for Boneyard, right?

if PFL can segue into freebird and all revved up, then yes..
