Who in there right mind would give up sex?

As for (temporarily) giving up this forum; it has been made very public, even in this last week that certain topics are off limits to discuss whatever the reason and whether or not you agree with that. Secondly Meat isn't exactly the easiest person to get along with on a forum, which is my view and is shared with a at least a few others I know of. This can easily be seen in his choice of almost only replying to people who don't think everything sounds amazing all of the time.

I would tend to agree with this. From what I have seen Meat has always been nice until provoked by someone and their bad attitude (thats putting it nicely).

To answer the question of why people make a giant spectacle about leaving and then turn around and come back that can be answered in one simple word...DRAMA

(not really on topic but relevant to the last few posts...)

I think the thing to remember with Meat is that he's not here as regularly as we are, so when he posts it's often because something specific - usually negative - has drawn his attention and he feels the need to respond to it, so when he posts it's usually in a rush and an immediate reaction to something he feels strongly/emotional about.

When Meat has time to sit down, read threads and post in his own time - like the Bat III information - I find his posts to be as "normal" as anyone else's...if that's a word that can be used here! :p

well Meat must fall into that category as well considering he's said on occasions that he would never come back.

This forum definitely proves the adage never say is never is alive and well. Hey we could all do without pages and pages of arguments between two members and literally wish they would 'get a room' but this is a place where lots of different opinions are cast and as such not everyone is going to agree, with some more sensitive than others.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing but some do think that the best way of making a statement is to leave and that's fair enough. Providing they haven't done anything to deserve being banned, or acquire multiple infractions, they will always be welcome back.

but as you know it's never as simple as just right and wrong.

 I can see this thread turning into a "is Meat nice to talk to on mlukfc thread?"

Make a mods life easy this week (we've been a little on the busy side of late) and let's not.

The fact is that sometimes during arguments and debates emotions can run pretty high.
Sometimes things can get pretty extreme and either one or both parties come to feel that they are letting themselves get too involved (waking up at 3am and finding you're holding your pillow in a headlock is always a good indicator of this) and it's maybe time to step away for a while and spend some time dealing with the real world, which is great now and again to put things back in perspective.

People can find themselves insulted, wether this be intentionally or not, and this can cause the person to want to take a little time out.

As Meat is an active member on this forum, sometimes he has taken offense to what has been said and sometimes something he has said has given offence.
FACT!

For some people, it is much more straining when Meat is involved because they have a lot or respect for him and have no wish to upset him, fall out with him, or have him do the same to them.

In short, most people who leave our virtual community do so because things get too real.
Happilly, most who leave come back after taking time out.

Whether rightly provoked or not I just hate seeing Meat getting upset with what people write here. That's what I probably find the single most disappointing thing about this forum. In the past it has looked as if things here may have an influence on how Meat takes things further (or indeed not) career wise and that's just a shame when it would be done from such a negative point of view, no matter who initiated it. Maybe I read too much into these words he sometimes types as he definitely does not come across aggressive anywhere else (interviews, when meeting him, on stage). In fact he comes across as a very humble, gentle and funny guy who's only fault is his own constant strife for perfection. Perhaps I shouldn't judge Meat on the few posts here but the only way I can describe some of his posts if I would is "disappointing". At the same time he has given us a lot of information on the site here and certainly posted tons of thank you notes pretty much making me think that at least forum-redemption is only a post away. :-)

Anyway sorry for the ramble but it's the best way I can describe my sometimes apprehension with being here and could imagine others (even if it's just one or two) feel the same.

If you mean me then I had very legitimate reasons.
Abuse, racism and disrespect.

I couldn't be a part of something that condoned that but I figured that given time I'd try again with the forum and it's members. I don't post half as much as I used to because to be honest it got to the point where I became miserable every time I did so, so I quit and left for awhile.

Or someone has drawn his attention to something that they deem negative, which is probably why his PM inbox seems to be always full. Because it always astonishes me that with the limited time Meat spends on mlukfc and with the gazillion threads/topics on the go, he seems to be able to hone in the one post that's negative  By the way Lucy, in no way am I suggesting you point Meat towards negative posts.

When meat is online he only views threads that spark his interest and reads through them. He has a good eye. You say something negative about him in a thread entitled "PC Bank Arts Center 7/16/10" hell see it. If You say something negative about him in a thread called "Favourite Biscuit" then he wont.

But Pudding is probably right. He'll log on and find 20 messages from 5 different people all telling him 'WarioLoaf has said you don't like custard creams! I think that's appalling. How dare anyone claim that and put words in your mouth!" Meat will then duly head to the favourite biscuit thread and avoid the other threads.

And that is the way to do it, because everybody takes a break from stuff every now and again.

It is not so much about those who leave and come back, because your free to do that as often as you would like. The question is why do some people make ticker tape parade like spectacle out of there departure, only to be back a week or two later. Why all the DRAMA and the long goodbyes? If your unhappy with the site, then just take a break. Provided you haven't been banned, I would imagine that the door would always be open for return. Just save us all the drama of the soap opera goodbyes.

I think anyone who has announced their departure has done so because they were really emotional at the time, and couldn't shake it - but thought the solution was to announce the good-bye to make it formal and dealt with.

I see it as the more difficult way out....the more you announce leaving, the more you have to explain yourself when you come back. Why not just quietly NOT login for awhile and go enjoy other sides of life....and quietly come back when your ready ?

Although....I must say I know some of you, but most of you who login here I don't know too well yet. So perhaps the reason some of us need to announce leaving is so that people actually notice. Otherwise it feels like no one cares that you left?

I actually think some of that is quite disrespectful especially towards Sarge as she was a fantastic poster on this site and I do miss her posts. But I guess some of you don't give a shit. I'd rather have seen that message than not as indeed I do worry what happens to regular people when they are gone from the site for a long time and do hope they are ok but that's just me. You call it drama, I call it stating why you may/are no longer going to be part of the community. Everyone here can decide to read such threads as they are clearly named as far as I know and usually posted in OFF Topic. If you don't care, then don't read it.

As Pudding pointed out a while ago, he said something along the lines with Meat being allowed to get away with drama and throwing his toys out of the pram and if that's the case then why can't other forum members?

Simple, it's called the MEAT LOAF UK Forum. It is a site devoted to the man, the myth, and the legend that is Meat. So if you are Meat Loaf then that means you get certain special privelages on a site that is devoted to you. Even if he wants to "throw his toys out of the pram."

Meat's god on this site, figuratively speaking. Its devoted him, so he can do whatever he wants in sense. I agree though, When was the last time a post of his was deleted? Hes Meat though. he may get mad, but always apologizes and says he loves us.

As for Sarge, I miss her too. Was fun to play off of.

Im pretty sure, to be honest, if I went anywhere for more then a week or so people would be wondering were I went. The goodbyes are to show people are leaving for awhile and say their goodbyes. If you notice most if not only regular users who are departing create these threads.

I think its a sign of deep respect for the community if you tell people you are leaving.

Sarge will be Back. I guarantee It.

Indeed, at least temporarily - as you can see. ;) By the way, I think I referred to myself as a girl quite often, LOL.

Im pretty sure, to be honest, if I went anywhere for more then a week or so people would be wondering were I went.

I'd be afraid that your cat has gathered some fierce buddies from the alley to keep you from making him appear in further miming videos.

As for the purpose (?) of this thread: I received several messages asking me why I left, everybody got a response. So if you have a question regarding people leaving / returning why not just ask them directly?

I decided for a "soap opera goodbye" because:

a) Something that had been an important part of my life was going to the dogs at a moment and in a way it shouldn't.

b) I like this forum and its members (well, most of them ;)), there have been numerous very interesting threads and I'm indeed missing some people. I still log on from time to time as I enjoy reading some people's posts in particular and still communicate with some members via PM.

As mszee said, this is "OUR club" and I was sad to leave. This has nothing to do with "drama" but with relationships you have developed to something / someone over the years. Just shutting the door behind you without saying a word is pretty impolite, in my opinion.

Writing a goodbye post turned out to be useful in retrospect, too, as I learned a lot about some people's personalities and realized which members take this community seriously and are truly devoted to it and who pays lip service to it only.

c) I made some really good friends among the community, I mean real friends, not just virtual ones. Some of them even helped me through hard times, without me asking them to - which I am very grateful for. (No, I didn't have to claim to suffer from a malicious illness. By the way, I feel sorry for those whose compassion and generosity was shamelessly exploited by a certain former user of this board.)

I said in my last post(s) that I decided to take a break from Meat and the club and that I don't know if I will come back as an active participant.

Actually something happened that made me consider to change my mind and return but I'm going to wait and see for now.

Have a nice weekend! :-)

 I think that one of the reasons people post goodbye messages to convey their feelings on how something they love has took a wrong turn.
That something in our community has gone wrong and that perhaps by saying this as they are saying goodbye, they leave us with an opportunity to look at how things are on the forum, and how we treat each other, and give us the chance to reflect and put right what has gone wrong.

Sometimes people leave and return hoping that things have improved, sometimes they stay away for good and leave us their farewell message as something we can learn from to prevent losing more of our community.

Most of all, I think people post a goodbye to simply say goodbye.
There are a lot of friendships built on this forum, and if someone is compelled to leave the forum and say goodbye, "you can catch me on facebook", then that is their right, and if you think those threads are too dramatic then you don't have to read them.

Meat has left the forum a few times and come back, and there is no questioning it, so why not extend the same courtesy to other members?

Because they all leave for the same reason.
They are pissed off at the moment in time.

And those who return all return for the same reason.
They have had time to calm down, lick their wounds, and might just miss the place a little.

There's no big mystery here
