Maybe because as a vocalist she's just OK and not really great :shrug:

I beg to differ with you, Pudding about CC's vocal ability. I have seen several of her solo shows with her band, including one accoustic show and she can more that cut it vocally. She is a tremendously talented and extremely gifted singer. She can sing Janis Joplin almost as good as Janis. Janis was one of kind and an original so no one could ever do janis better than Janis herself. CC can belt out a rock song, sing a ballad, and do sing folk/blues songs. She is truly amazing vocally. Both of CC's albums are awesome.

If Meat thought CC's vocals were THAT good, then how come she wasn't promoted to lead female when Patti left, instead they recruited Aspen Miller?

She is most definitely good enough, vocally. I think Aspen did the lead vocals on the duets for the 3 Bats tour because of the theatrical aspects of the songs, especially Paradise. To make that song work you have to be good vocally as well as part actress. Aspen also had theater experience which made her the better choice, all things considered. CC did share some vocals on Life Is a Lemon. For the Casa de Carne tour CC also shared lead vocals for a couple of songs with Patti - can't remember which ones at the moment.

She was cute enough, but wrong enough to distract me from going to see Meat while she was with him. Her stage presence with him on TV was distracting enough to discourage this superfan from attending shows. However, she was absolutely AMAZING in We Will Rock You. I would recommend anyone seeing her on stage like that!!!

Just a thought. But didn't Aspen leave NLE shortly after getting married? maybe her husband thought her doing Paradise with Meat was too weird...which it was. And CC is married and maybe she has a refusal of doing that song which prevents her from doing female lead. I've no idea what Patti's marital status is :shrug:

Unfortunately this is the tour Meat would rather forget, and his duet with CC for DRFL was one of the last songs at that concert in Newcastle. If it was recorded I don't think we'll ever hear it as CC sounded great but Meat was struggling.

As for why CC didn't get the gig when Patti left. IMO its 2 things. First as already mentioned Meat wants an actress to play the part in his duets, and being a great singer does not make you a great actress. As we all know outside of performing with Meat both Patti and Aspen do mostly stage theatre whereas CC performs mostly as lead singer in her band. This is because its what they do best.
Secondly I think it's down to the sound of their voices. CC and Patti have different voices. Both are fantastic but they are not necessarily suited to singing the same types of song.
CC has a phenomenal voice, is a great singing performer and what red blooded male can ever forget her 45 seconds performances.
I'm sure that if Meat keeps performing and CC stays with the NLE she will get more chances to shine.

I agree totally that her stage presence in terms of acting ability isnt quite all there which I feel may have let her down. Its a shame coz I really like CC and wouldve loved to have seen her as lead, she wouldve done a great job.
Aspen had great stage presence, always improvising and keeping up with Meat, sometimes even getting a little bit ahead, which wont be good.
Patti's stage presence is great when she's duetting but I found on her solo during Casa she was always looking around for backup or support, but shes awesome anyways.

You thought she was looking for support when she was singing Bible and a Beer? I'm amazed .. she absolutely belted that out at every show I attended, and it was a highlight, for me and for many others according to their reviews. In the show storyline she's singing about her feelings having been wronged by Meat's character .. He stands in the background, and one can see his gradual realisation and remorse at how he's let her down, in preparation for them reuniting in AFL. Are you sure you aren't mis-interpreting her glances at him? Because she delivered Bible incredibly powerfully.

As been suggested, I think Patti singing was a chance to give Meat a breather and an opportunity for Patti to do a solo song. Especially after the debacle of Bat3 and Patti leaving, which Meat as openly stated he regrets, I feel allowing Patti to do a solo number was a chance for them to make amends.

That aside though, it's nonsense for someone to suggest that Patti needs backup. The occasional glances were probably just harmless enough and too much is being read into it and MEats facial expressions could be a number of things, impressed with Patti's song, singing or just passing wind :shrug: it could be a number of possibilities.

No need to what the hell, nor what the ~~~~. I didn't need to look in a tourbook, nor do I need to show you where it says that in a tourbook .. just as well because I don't believe there was one. Meat himself told us there was a storyline running through the show and linking the songs .. He designed it, and imo it was pretty clear.

Some songs were indeed performed in an order and in a way that told a story and Bible And A Beer obviously was a part of it. If that wasn't the case, either a large part of the audience fell victims to a delusion or Caryl and I share the same mind. :yikes: But I think Meat's promise of getting a "plastic butt" like J.Lo's was even more amusing than the whole performance.

But then he decided to shorten the show a little bit and dropped it from the setlist by the time I saw them in NYC in December.

I have to say that the storyline in that tour was blatantly obvious and brilliantly done - yes it may have helped Meat get a breather, but the Bible and a Beer routine was part of a thread of songs that ran through the middle of the show

The storyline running through the show, I don't buy it. Cobbling together songs in a certain order doesn't work for me, especially when there's no convoluted story to back it up and the songs aren't written by the same person.

Why can't people just enjoy the songs on their own instead of them being tied to a story? I'd say the 'mass' aren't deluded at all because the mass don't give two shits about some bogus story, they're there to rock to each song, whichever song it may be and whichever order, I really don't think they care.

Personally, I liked the segment where CC did 45 secs with Meat getting seduced away from Patti, then Patti getting pissed at Meat with bible and beer and Meat's facial expressions.

Think it was a good job all round, but if you want to take each song as it comes rather than buying into the story idea, there's nothing wrong with that.

Of course you don't necessarily need a story but everybody I was at the shows with really enjoyed that kind of performance. The moment Meat opened the beer bottle the audience seemed to be excited about what was going to happen next. Speaking of beer bottles, it was stunning to see what you can achieve and express with rather ordinary means, LOL.

It wasn't like with HCTB with Meat telling a story first and expecting people to relate it to the songs on the album (something I consider annoying, by the way). In this case, the story was revealed by the performance only and it was fun to hear the music in that context.

Meat's shows have always been more like theater performances than just rock concerts and I appreciate that he comes up with new ideas. What's wrong with being a little creative? ;)

They didn't do Bible & a Beer at the US shows, but it looked really great in the videos I saw.

I really don't think CC's voice blends very well with Meat's voice in duets, but she sounds good in songs like Gimme Shelter. I also don't think she has believable chemistry with Meat. Patti barely gets to sing any duets in this new show, so there just isn't enough time in the show.

I would have to disagree, imo CC's voice does blend with Meats and i do think CC has on stage chemistry with Meat. I think CC does have a great voice and is always superb on stage, really getting into the show and performing.
However i do think Patti is in a different league regarding her vocal ability and her chemistry with Meat is very intense. I did notice at the US shows i was at, that Meat seemed so much happier and more at home with Patti. I think she reads Meat very well and is incredibly quick witted !

Meat and Patti had a unique and intuitive understanding from the start and it has developed over the years. I disagree on that one. I don't think CC has the right personality, quick wit, acting or improv ability to pull off Paradise. I don't think Aspen had the wit or improv ability either (which Meat himself said in an interview that she wasn't able to improv). Meat only needs one lady for his duet partner, and Patti has the superior voice and genuine chemistry with Meat.
I don't know why CC doesn't try to get a record deal with her own band. The older a female singer gets, the more difficult it is to get a record deal.

I was just commenting on the relative positions of Patti and CC in the NLE, and saying that not being the most senior doesn't detract in any way from CC's skill imo.

As none of us know why Aspen was brought in to fill Patti's place on the Bat3 tour, I do not intend to speculate because I think it's a waste of time and typing. The subject of this thread is CC, and her in duet with Meat .. not raking over Bat3 embers .. there's enough of that goes on elsewhere imo ;)

Yes, this thread is just rehashing 3 Bats now. The answer to the question about the duets is because there isn't enough time in the show or enough space on the album. As previously stated, Patti barely gets to sing any duets in the new show and she barely got to sing on a duet on the new album.
