I like the title, suzie; I called my grandfather Papa as a kid. Congrats to Pearl, Scott, Meat and aunt Amanda. With a family history like that, this child has to have good looks as well as amazing talent. A future Loafaholic and Metalhead

Not by Pearl as far as I can see, but Metal Hammer magazine (http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/news/scott-ian-to-sit-out-anthrax-july-shows/) have confirmed that Scott will be sitting out some of Anthrax's shows (one of which I'll attending, drat!) in July to attend the birth.

Congratulations to Pearl, Scott and Meat. That's going to be one good looking, talented child!

Meat Loaf Is Going To Be A Grandpa!

The 63-year-old singer and Celebrity Apprentice star - born to the name Marvin Lee Aday - and his pregnant daughter, singer Pearl Aday, 35, were spotted picking up some groceries in Calabasas, Calif. on Wednesday (June 8th).

Anyone mind if I change the title of this thread to "Meat's going to be a grandad", because it's driving me nuts

You are right Suzie, in many cultures it is a term of endearment for a grandfather. I called my grandfather Papa

I totally dislike poparzzi shots. I assume that's what these are. But they're there and I can say Woww Pearl is looking really great! And I say that cause I probably would be the guy to tell her that provided we ever been introduced.
Way to go Pearl! I know one thing for sure, it would be tough for me just trying to go out and people start randomly pictures of myself. Yeah Meat is a gentleman. But not just cause he holding the bags. Cause I also know a few people that would just want to holler or spit at someone taking their picture.

But if anything I learned while my ex was pregnant. You gotta keep good viabrations in the air as much as you can.
Congrats again to the Aday's and Ian's.

Actually I don't think it is at all common here in the UK .. grandpapa perhaps, but I have never heard papa used to refer to grandfather, as a term of endearment or not. I have to say I found it bizarrely misleading when I first saw it  And this is a UK forum after all so I have every sympathy with Mouse on this occasion.

With all due respect, I'm glad to help with the terms used here in the States....Nana and Papa are not uncommon. Whether it be named a UK forum or whatever, we are a melting pot of nationalities here, we should be open to new terms. And really, I've been more than once mislead on a thread title and never asked to have it changed no matter what nationality the person who started it was. I simply disagree. I mean absolutely no disrespect, I just felt I needed to clarify.

And as a strong proponent of the use of English rather than American-English, even I feel that "Papa" is a perfectly acceptable term in this instance. Meat is American himself, remember, and is probably quite happy with the use of the terminology. Let's not get all elitist over the use of a predominantly American term for someone who is themselves and American. Seems rather silly to me.

I don't particularly like the term myself since I tend to think of it as referring to a father and not a grandfather but I don't think the thread should be renamed unless Meat objects to it.

 Me too!

And all I did was agree with the moderator who found it misleading, as did I from the beginning (and at least two American friends). That it's not changed will cause me to lose no sleep .. .. but I think we are all entitled to express our view

Agreed.
Meat is American so it's perfectly in order to refare to him as Papa, if Papa is an American term for grandfather.

Actually (confession time), the reason I really wanted to change the title from "Papa" is that every time I read that word it puts me in mind of a war criminal famous for the torture and murder of thousands who's nickname was "Papa".
It's just a clear association I have with the word (not being a common term in England) and I prefare not to think of such things in conjunction with Meat Loaf :bleh:

AS I said in the original post though, it's off the topic and I just wanted to know if anyone minded a thread name change, you do mind, so it stays the same

Back to the topic..................

Is there really any risk of someone reading this and thinking Meat's about to be a father again?! No disrespect to the guy - I'm sure he still has it in him! - but I'm sure everyone's aware Meat's about to be a Grandad/Grandfather/Papa/Grandpapa. Whislt the title might not be "English" I don't think it's causing too much confusion :?

And to get back on topic....baby names!!! Wonder what they'll come up with for the Little Loafer!
