hey guys

just to give you some background i've been out of work for a while but managed to get something a few weeks back

unfortunately i had to leave after the first week because i suffered from severe anxiety, which i think was down to previous bad experiences in the workplace

i'm now looking at various ways of working from home and this is where i'd like your help

i joined a website that says you can do various data entry jobs for them online to earn money, but before that they want me to refer a couple of people

if im honest i dont know if its for real or not, but the website seems totally professional and well made and genuine, they are only asking me to get 3 or 4 people to refer, and they haven't asked me for any money or anything

so all i'd be asking you to do is click a link, i think thats how referrals work anyway, and at most join the website but then doing nothing else, wouldn't take a few minutes, and it wouldn't cost you anything to do

i'd really appreciate your help with this, just to find out if its for real or not, as working from home would really suit the way i am right now

Hi - Sorry to hear the new job didn't work out.

The site you refer to doesn't sound familiar but I can check it out for you. I work as a freelance writer and editor and there are some decent freelancing websites out there. Three places you might want to have a look at are:

Peopleperhour.com
Elance.com
Freelancer.com

You basically bid on jobs (like an employment version of Ebay). All three sites often have data entry/admin/PA type work on them and most of the jobs are genuine and not a scam. I've been freelancing for two years, though the work has really picked up since January.

I know it sucks when you feel like that, and it's for that very reason that I'm never going to work for the rest of my life. I get too panicy and congested in a workplace. I hope you get a job online.

Hey that sounds interesting. Are you able to make a living off it?

That site sounds like a scam site to me. Just type in "earnparttimejobs" in Google. Lots of people pointing out it is a scam.

If I were you I would stay clear and try something different. Have a look on job sites, just apply for as much as would suit. I would have thought that time would be better spent on that or indeed join a proper freelancer site as what was pointed out above.
If that company is so wealthy that they can pay out people those kind of figures I think having Google ads on the front page is tacky and tells me enough. The site looks rubbish to me and I work as a web developer.

There are plenty of people out there that will tell you you can earn lots but FIRST ah, well, please pay me $87 please and I will tell you how to do it or I will just waste your time whilst you click on all these ad links on my site whilst I earn money........

Everyone's out there to get your money and usually not to give. Think about it.

Fair enough, but I think the site looks quite good actually, and i did do a search for other peoples view on it but there wasn't anyone who could say it was a scam. Besides a scam will ask you for money but this doesn't.

Not necessarily. It can easily be setup simply to annoy you, waste your time or most likely just be there to collect your personal details which are then sold on. Think of all those I will put $10 million in your bank emails or even simpler computer viruses.

For some reason that's really grated on me over the last few days, hope you change your opinion in time

Agreed, I initially thought it was an attempt at sarcasm, but then I just gave up caring about it ;)

I don't think Steve6 was taking the p*ss out of me. He said he gets panicy at work too and hoped I found something online.

I think you're most likely to get the better paying jobs at Elance - they are sort of like professionals for profesionals while the other two sites are more like private small jobs at an affordable and sometimes low budget. I know in the writing jobs section on Elance there are lots of published authors that look for experienced editors and they will pay several thousand dollars for an editor to review their manuscript. Similar jobs can be found at the two other sites but the job would only go for maybe $250.

It really depends how much time and effort you put into it and it is best to expect rejected bids and count every accepted bid as being very lucky in the beginning but once you get established and get feedback on jobs you've worked on, other employers are likely to pick your bids so it does get easier.

For me, it's nice extra money to put aside for my daughter's school or for a holiday and I can do it around school hours and not have to do it when school breaks up for the summer; but my husband works full time so I don't need to depend on what I do to live on. But I've read articles of people who do this as their full time job and you can pick any freelancer on the site and see what their earnings are and some are quite impressive!
