I would like to hear a Meat Loaf version of the Antony & the Johnsons song Hope There's Someone. His new vocal style would work really good for this song!:??:
I think there's a thread already been made like this but I couldn't find it.

That's actually a Billy Joel song, but there's another great Garth song called 'Ain't Goin Down Til the Sun Comes Up' that would really work if given the 'Mercury Blues' treatment. Remember when Meat said he'd like to get Boneyard on the True Blood soundtrack? A suitable Meat version of this song would be the perfect fit IMO.

If Meat could get all of the words out to Ain't Goin Down Til The Sun Comes Up it would be immense, and a complete flop if he couldn't...would certainly like to hear him give it a good go!

It would be awesome. Every time I hear the song (which is a lot, as the gf is a HUGE Garth fan) I can't help but think how it may sound with Meat and co.

Meat could nail these and with the band in the form they're in, I'm sure they'd be awesome!

I second this one, Elvis would be a great act for Meat Loaf to cover
Love me tender & Just can't help falling in love with you & blue suede shoes
I have seen a clip of him doing Jail house rock
I'd like to hear him do rock around the clock & I like that old time rock & roll.... some other stuff from the 60's
I'd LOVE to hear him sing Cohen's Hallelujah too. Back when he was recrding HCTB he said he was doing the hallelujah song with Hug Laurie, and we wondered if it was Cohen's, and waited with such excitement. He said recently he recorded one song with Hugh which didn't make the album .. so I guess that was "the hallelujah song" but whether it was Cohen's or not we may never know ;)

The man's a legend, and actually it was Meat (in a strange way!) who "introduced" me to Garth when he presented TOTP back in 1994. Garth did Standing Outside The Fire and that was it - hooked!
I'd LOVE to hear him sing Cohen's Hallelujah too
DREAM cover version!!! I don't know why but if I image Meat doing Hallelujah I think of him doing it much like he did Oh What A Beautiful Morning, which I thought was fabulous

Ok this is just my opinion and my very first post here;so here goes. I know Meat isn't very fond of Phantom, but I would love to hear him sing some of the songs from it. I think that it would be awesome and I know that he would give it the feelings and heart that it deserves: after all Meat is A romantic and I get chills just thinking of it. I think that he would do it so well that he may even give Michael Crawford a run for his money. love ya Meat!!!

I agree! He has the perfect voice to sing those songs - passionate, emotional and full of heart. I admit, I do happen to be a fan of Phantom
So many people have mentioned some great songs
I'd actually like to see him do Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy with Paul Crook
I'd like to see him sing something like 'Hello Again' or 'I Am, I Said' by Neil Diamond because both songs tell stories and Meat can tell a story so well through song. I already like both songs and I think it'd be interesting to see how Meat could make them his own.
OH YES! I'd love to hear him do some Neil Diamond.
Meat should do "Date With Destiny" by Blue Tears.:D

Both "You Didn't Break It" by Steve Vai from the Flexable Leftovers album, and "Wishful Thinking" by Poison from the Hollyweird album. Both relatively unknown songs, that sound like they were tailored or demo'd for Meat. Especially the chorus where Brett is doing his best Meat Loaf impression!

Technically it wouldn't be a cover since it was originally written for Meat, but I would love him to do Total Eclipse Of The Heart.

I enjoy Greg Fulkerson's very much.
*Was he in Blue Tears?*
Shame he pass a way, I have never forgot about this recording even when I heard it back in the early 2000's. Haven't heard it again until this morning.

Yeah I think he was. I read somewhere that this song was offered to Meat Loaf in the early 90's. :??:

I'm not too excited by the prospect of a Meaty Total Eclipse, but you raise a good point re: covering a few more Steinman tracks!
Meat did a fantastic job doing Surfs Up, Nowhere Fast, Left in The Dark and Original Sin without Jim. I'm sure he'd do justice to a few more on the whistle down the wind soundtrack.
Should only go near Steinman tracks with Jim involved. (my 2 cents anyway) His Surf's Up & Nowhere's fast work real well. Original Sin & Left In The Dark, they lacked something, but not in the same way TMIL's covers lacked something. This is my 25 cents anyway.
If Meat will cover, I like to see him cover F*ck You Anyway from the Sweeny Todd movie. Or at least there was a video clip of it circulating on youtube!

I'm sorry but I love Meat because he is unlike anybody else and I feel he is at his best with songs that are "his". Of course I love his voice whatever he is singing, but he does't need to cover other peoples music, in my opinion.

He already covers many artists. The Doors, Warren Zevon, Chuck Berry and Elvis come instantly to mind.

Yes I know, and I love them all, with his spin on them. But my point is that his talent is unique, and the combination of a new song and his voice is far superior than any cover, no matter how enjoyable.
I love how he took James Michael's take on 'Los Angeloser' and delivered to a sonic sounding level of a distant future of LA and making it sound cool. I really enjoy the 'Hang Cool' story now!

But would you not agree that the real core of Teddy Bear is made up of the Rick Brantley covers: Peace, Outside and Madness? Plus Prize Fight Lover?
Re-interpreting songs is an integral part of Meats modus operandi.

I'd LOVE to hear him sing Cohen's Hallelujah too.
Caryl
Same here. I always wanted to hear him record Hallelujah, with Patti singing harmony on the Hallelujah lines. I think it would also make a great live performance like Forever Young was in 03-04.
Hmmmm ... how about "Da Da Da" from TRIO recorded with the BERLINER SYMPHONIKER ?!
Chorus by Susan Boyle & Paul Potts, female vocals by Britney Spears ... .
Come on, folks: Meat choose his songs himself !!!
Of course he does, and I am always perfectly happy to buy my ticket and get my ass to the venue and enjoy whatever set list he has put together, because he knows what will work. It's worked that way for us fine for over 30years ;) I don't try and second guess his selection each tour, nor do I ever say he should sing this or that.
But this thread is just a few fans talking to each other about songs they'd love to hear him cover, I assume songs they like, and which they think he'd do great justice to, and as such we can surely all express that? It's not headed "What should Meat cover at the end of his next tour set?"
I don't expect ever to hear him perform the two I identified .. "I know Him So Well" and Cohen's "Hallelujah". They are to me simply songs I love, and can imagine him singing beautifully. I expect them to stay in my imagination and have not suggested or reqeusted he sing them, nor has anyone else as far as I can make out.

@Kai-H. and he does a kick-ass job of it.
However, there are artists I wish would do certain songs and there are songs that should never be redone after the original does them.
Doesn't stop me or others from imagining.
Right now I'm imagining Meat doing, well, just about all of my other favorite's songs. Elvis is The King and may his music live forever!
I had mentioned In The Ghetto earlier. Only 2 artists, Elvis and Dolly, have ever been able to nail it. I think Meat could. Now there are 2 voices that would fit well together. Dolly and Meat. Now my imagination is running wild.
like Forever Young was in 03-04.
