An American guitar :??:

Love and Death and an American Guitar, aka Wasted Youth. That's what I'm assuming that is referring to. Did Meat do the spoken part?

Thank you so much, Shane. I get it now!

Great setlist, by the way!

Was there no Blind Before I Stop or any of the other tracks he was thinking of doing?

Asha
06 Jul 2003, 16:35
This was only a promo concert, wasn't it????

Also he wasn't gonna do all the songs every night, as he said.

I think they played the song they got down already, while still rehersing and working on the others....
I think the tour is gonna be great.

Don't get me wrong, the set list looks great and I know that it was only a promo concert ect I just wondered if the set list at the start of the thread was complete or if it was just the highlights.

To answer some of the questions. Sorry I was not able to respond earlier -watching this Party In The Park fiasco.

The set list I posted at the beginning is complete and not the highlights. Therefore if it is not on that list it was not done!

Yes I was there. Enjoyed the show very much.

Lost Boys and Golden Girls was not the complete song. It was about one and a half minutes from memory leading into the spoken Wasted Youth speech. Can't answer about who did the speech though - I assumed it was taped and that it was not Meat but don't quote me on that. I was some way back

Do It was great to see live (though I am not too keen on the song). All the band did the song I think in some "monster masks". Again hopefully someone nearer the front can provide a better description than I can.

The cue cards were not used on Tear Me Down

A lot of preaching speech on Testify. Went on for a long time. The audience kept thinking the song had finished and then it started up again. Preaching style intro to "All Revved Up" as well

They did Love You Out Loud and the vocal effects were there. How they did those I don't know - perhaps that little bit was a tape but I'm not sure

Concert length was as I said exactly two hours.

Meat posted on our forums that Do It would be very special. It was awesome! To be honest Do It is not one of my favourite songs off the album but seeing it performed live was spectacular. I was right down at the front so had an excellent view of the masks. I really don't want to give too much away to spoil it for others about to see the show, but I can tell you they looked very demonic and I thought Meat's looked quite evil! I'm sure everyone who goes to see Meat on tour is going to love this part of the show.

Meat and the NLE well and truly rocked Plymouth and it was great to have so many of the new songs and to be lucky enough to hear Testify and Love You Out Loud live for the first time.

CHSIB was much more solid than it sounded in Amsterdam and I'm sure, as usually happens with Meat's new songs, they will evolve as the tour progresses.

I was also pleased to hear Lost Boys & Golden Girls (although it would have been nice to have heard the full version) and Love & Death & An American Guitar.

The audience was pretty wild and Meat and the band received a fantastic reception for their first ever gig in Plymouth.

The show was short by Meat's standards and ended with Paradise; no rock 'n' roll medley this time, but I believe Meat and co. had to hop on a plane back to London straight after the gig.

Bearing in mind what Meat said about the Plymouth show being a warm-up for the tour, my only criticism would be that the sound was pretty awful where my friends and I were standing. I realise sound quality is always sacrificed when you stand so close to the stage (you can't have everything! :) ), but what we were hearing was so drum oriented we could hear little else. That said, it doesn't mean the sound wasn't just fine elsewhere in the hall.

I was so excited things worked out that I could be there. I didn't know if I'd make it or not for sure until literally a couple of hours before I jumped in the plane to fly to Plymouth!

Many, many thanks to Meat & the NLE for another fantastic concert experience.

Sound at Plymouth was pretty bad - I was about 2/3rds of the way back - am v v short so a bit scared to be in the thick of the crowds and not fast enough to be at the front so took the easy way out and headed back a bit for some space to jig about.

When Meat came on the sound was really low, they did crank it up a bit as the show went on but the mix didn't seem to be quite right. Some of Meat's vocals were getting lost in the mix. :( I am sure this will be honed to perfection as the tour progresses.

Plus you have to remember that the Pavilions is a pretty small venue and they've only really started to attract bigger named acts in recent years. No-one tours the South West - we are the forgotten audience! It's getting better though and Meat's appearance at the venue and his rapturous reception from an eager crowd starved of live acts down there can only help encourage others to come. Otherwise, we end up travelling to Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff or London! Plus, Meat's probably one of the loudest acts they've ever had!

Can't wait for Wembley in November and December - the only advantages of being in London, the choice of gigs and venues!

Thank you, Black Queen. 'Everyone' is talking about the sound at plymouth pavillions, from front to the back, it seems. They will have to do something about that, I think they will.
The sound at Wembley will be a lot better!
I like reading these 'reports' specially when everyone had a wonderful evening!

Terry and Jules, I think you are the first people from this forum (except for Fire Ball and Metal Loaf ofcourse) to be going to a US show.
Well, I wanted to say 'have a great time' but in this case that would be an understatement!!!
Have a safe trip! And please come back soon! Can't wait to hear all about it!

Love,

Mariella

I was right at the front at plymouth & if its any consolation, the sound was the same for deep purple a few months previous!!!
Am hoping to get to the NEC in December & wondered how long you think the show will be....2 hours at Plymouth but some say he normally plays for longer (humour me as I'm new! )

Thanks Farlap, that's interesting. Could be the venue is just acoustically very bad.

Take some comfortable shoes!

By Meat's usual standards that was a short set. In the concerts I've seen in recent years he has normally been on stage between 2 hrs. 15 mins. - 2 hrs. 30 mins.

Those who remember his shows from the late 80s will tell you that it wasn't unusual for him to be on stage for up to 3 hrs.! 8)

I was at the Plymouth gig and it was fabulous but not a big production. The venue itself is pretty small so none of the special effects, pyrotechnics or costume changes were there. This was expected to be a bit of a warm up anyway, but still worth it to be in the presence of the man himself...and to see him in my home town where I was first introduced to BOOH was awesome!!!!! Pity Patti wore her 'pyjamas bottoms' though and no slinky numbers like usual - would have been nice if she'd made the effort! The set list is not necessarily going to be the same everywhere I wouldn't have thought....hope the rest of you have a great time when your gigs come around!! :D

I went to the Plymouth gig, and after waiting almost 30 years to see Meat live I wouldn't have cared if he'd had just stood there. I thought the sound was great the atmosphere amazing and Meat was just outstanding. As for Patti she was as good and as powerful as she always is. I am not a sound expert. I like what I like and if I can hear it that's fine by me so I couldn't tell you if the sound was right, wrong or indifferent all I know is that it was a brilliant show and I am really hoping that Meat will come back to Plymouth as an extra last date.

I know exactly what you mean :)
I saw him do "I'd Lie For You" at Atlantic City in September, 2001.
It was the first time I ever saw him in concert, and I'll never forget how wonderful it sounded. I'd love to hear him do it again when I see him this September at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut !!
