View Full Version : Never Mind the Buzzcocks (cast your minds back to 1999...)

I don't know if anyone on these boards remembers (or if Meat himself remembers), but Meat appeared on BBC Two's premier comedy music quiz Never Mind The Buzzcocks back in 1999. And, like his recent TV appearances, he was unstoppable! I'm going to watch through the tape later!

Does anyone else remember Meat appearing on Buzzcocks? Or perhaps Meat himself might remember?

I remember Meat appearing on Buzzcocks. I thought it was more recently than 1999 - but maybe I was watching a repeat.

In the guess the lyrics round there was a line from Dead Ringer and Meat didn't know it !!

Mark's introduction for Meat:

"Phill's second guest comes roaring in like a Bat Out Of Hell, it's a pleasure to introduce a genuine superstar - the one and only Meat Loaf!

Meat did nearly all his own stunts for this video (for I'd Lie For You (And That's The Truth)), but did get a stunt double for the scene where he eats a salad"

Phill Jupitus' other guest was Ultra's bassist Nick Keynes, and Sean Hughes' guests were Billie Piper and Rowland Rivron.

Hehe, and he kisses Mark too... it was parto of the promotional push for the Very Best of Album... are you sure it wasn't 1998??

Nope, it was definately 1999, as specified by the end credits. Also, the video they showed when introducing Billie Piper was for "Honey To The Bee", which was released in 1999.

Yes, he did kiss Mark. He also brought in an umbrella and a mobile phone with which he made 2 fake calls - one to "Snow", the former white rapper from Canada, and the other to Sean on his "imaginary phone"

After getting an answer right during the course of the game, Meat tells Mark "I think we'll make a great team!"
Mark: (singing) Do you love me? Will you love me forever..?
Meat: ... but not singing

I also remember Meat outsinging Billie on the intro of Bonnie Tylers "Holding Out For A Hero". Billie was struggling with the on the high notes and Meat sailed through them.

I think it was filmed on the same day that he took over the Big Breakfast show.

And wasn't he on a Red Nose special version too?

Yes Meat also appeared in a special Red Nose Day quiz on TV called Have I Got The Buzzcocks All Over, as well as performing live in concert for the charity, which was broadcast on radio.

My favourite quip in Buzzcocks was at the end of finish the lines, when the team Meat was on was given "Vindaloo, vindaloo, vindaloo ...." .. and quick as a flash Meat said "Oh .. Burn, burn when the ring of fire went down, down, down" and was awarded 3 bonus points by a delighted Mark Lemar for the quickest and funniest segue from Fat Les to Johhny cash in history!

I don't remember this. I remember a Have I Got Buzzcocks All Over in 2001, hosted by Angus *snort* Deayton, with Nick Hancock, David Gower, Stephen Fry, Sean Hughes, Phill Jupitus and Roisin Murphy. But I didn't see any Meat...

This I DO remember! One of the funniest Buzzcocks moments ever!

Well it's nice to see so many remember Meat's appearance on Buzzcocks. You know, the next series is about to start in September, so maybe Meat could appear on the show again? :) Let's hope he does...
