View Full Version : HOF Take 2. Please read.

 OK folks, this is the new and improved version of our HOF.
I think it's more along the lines of what we want given the feedback and increase in interest.
Apologies again for those who took the effort to get involved first time around. Hopefully the improvements will make the extra effort worthwhile.
As you'll see further down this post, you can now nominate 23 candidates in 11 categories.
These are the categories (and how many inductions there will be for the first year)
Group (10)
Male Vocal (10)
Female Vocal (4 this doesn't seem to be popular so the number is lower)
Writter (6)
Producer (2)
Guitar (4, we all love the axe)
Drums (2)
Piano (2)
Bass (2)
Other musicians (2)
Service to music (2)
More interest and more categories means more inductees.
The service to music is someone who has done something to profoundly change the world of music for the better.
I was considering a singer/song writter category for artists who write their own material, but I think it's making things too complicated.
To simplify the matter, a person can be nominated (and inducted) under the two different categories.
From next year, all quantities to be inducted will be at least half of what we induct this year. for example, 10 groups this year, 5 next year.
I may also consider putting all musicians in one category in the future, but posting inductees under seperate headers (guitarist, drummers, etc).
I've got a year to work on that though
So, this is the new system
Week 1 - nominations via PM to me (see below for details)
Week 2 - A thread will be started for each category rather than for each nominee (i'm not posting 50 odd threads again you'll be pleased to know  )
You can discuss the pros and cons of the nominations on those threads.
Week 3 - PM me your votes.
I'll add up the results at the end of that week and post them on the hall of fame.
Any draw results may be settled by further vote if needs be.
So, the nominations and quantities i'd like each person to nominate............
5 Groups
5 Male Vocal
2 Female Vocal
3 Writters
1 Producer
2 Guitarists
1 Drummer
1 Pianist
1 Bass player
1 Other musicians
1 for the Service to music category
Click here for a template you can copy and paste into a PM and fill in before sending to me (http://www.mlukfc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=584522&postcount=10)
Nominations can be made from now until 3pm (BST) Monday 28th Jan.
To be fair to all, no more nominations will be accepted after this deadline
OK, here we go again.
Are you going to delete all the old threads about HOF.... Things could get confusing.... Well I don't doubt I will be confused

 I'll leave the discussion threads about the HOF up, but the nomination threads are all gone.
Sorry to those who posted in them.

1. OK, so just to be clear, we're starting over with new nominations?
2. Will the new discussion threads allow for debate (since there will be fewer of them), or will the one post per person rule still apply? I think it will be more interesting that way. I understand the desire to keep fights to a minimum, but how about if we all promise to play nice? :saint:

 We are.
All nominations already received are sadly void.

This is something i've been thinking about.
I think with less threads, things should be easier to manage, so I think debate shouldn't be so much of a problem.
Just as long as everyone plays nice, treats each other with respect, and don't take it too seriously.
Another side benefit of the new way of doing things 8)

 Oh, and to clarify one further point again, this is not just rock/rock n roll.
This is for all musical tastes.
If you want to keep some of the nominees you consider not worthy, it's up to YOU to nominate someone good for them to stand against and to vote when the voting process starts

This is cool- I like the idea of a private vote, too.
This has been fun- thanks for starting this (even if all my posts are gone now  ;))

 OK, two sets of noms have arrived so far (and Jo and I have got to do ours yet, so that's 4).
A good sign seeing as we rebooted this only last night.
Please keep the nominations coming in folks.
The more nominations we have the more interesting this is going to be.
I think for a good race we need at least double the ammount we are going to induct.

There, hope that's useful
Do we have to nominate people for every category? Because if we're not allowed to nominate the NLE I might struggle to find any nominations for some of the musicians categories.

 No.
You can nominate as few people as you like.
If you only have 3 favourite bands, just nominate 3.
If you have no favourite bass player, you don't have to nominate one.

 Had a few sets of nominations now folks, but we can always use more.
Only 3 days left so get your thinking caps on and get nominating
Thanks to all those who've sent their in already
It's been pointed out to me we're shy a rather important category, those who left us their gifts and have now passed on.
So, we're adding a new category.
Rock N Roll Heaven
As noms for the other categories, you can now nominate those greats of the music world who are no longer with us.
Maximum of 10 nominations per member.
I'll add a R&RH nomination section to the template up above

We've got quite a few in already, but make sure you get yours in on time.
Don't forget, any nominations received after the deadline won't be counted.

Just out of curiosity, and the fact I'm nominating 5 as I couldn't narrow it down to two, why 5 bands, 5 male vocal but only 2 female vocal?
The Flying Mouse
26 Jan 2013, 19:03
 I would have been happy to have had 5 female, but the category didn't seem to have enough interest.
With the first time around, with the grand total of 51 nominations, only THREE of those were female artists or had female lead singers.
I thought we might struggle on that category, so I just put down 2 on the nominations list.
But if you want to send me 5 i'll be happy to accept them all

 I would have, but it turned out not to be man flu after all, it was a chest infection.
I've been in hospital for the last couple of days and have just got home
I'm a lot better than I was, but i'm still feeling pretty muggy.
I think i'll leave the last voting stage until next Monday (by which time i'll have had plenty of time to get over this and explain how the final voting works properly).

It needs explaining? I fear a complex mix of 'first past the post', 'proportional representation' and 'AV' methods all blended in to produce, on balance, a fair winner.
Will there an international audit team to rig it?
