Was just wondering if anyone could help me, I'm looking for the live version of Read 'em and Weep from what I think was a TV spot in 1981/82. It used to be on YouTube, however so did a lot of things. It would be great to see it again, it was a really interesting performance from what I remember so if anyone has it I would be eternally grateful :D

I would suggest your best bet would be to ask our very own random speller Wario on his youtube channel he has some rare & classic gems

I know of 'I'm Gonna Love her for Both of Us' and 'Peel Out' but I don't recall ever seeing 'Read m and Weep' on YT

Yeah definitely something along those lines, the thing that stood out was that it was actually live as apposed to most of the other TV stuff he was doing at the time (Though now I'm beginning to question whether it was for TV). And although it perhaps wasn't the most technically brilliant performance, Meat was pouring everything into it, mainly litres of sweat, but the rest too. I shall pm Wario I think, thanks for the replies

I can't find it, but I remember that performance... Bleh. His voice sucked during that era.
He just wasn't back at that point. His only saving Grace is that Jim wrote him a full album of AWESOME songs. Too bad he wasn't able to promote it very much and it sold poorly.
Can you imagine DR with BA level vocals?
Actually I enjoy Dead Ringer for its music, and its vocals. He has sang songs like Dead Ringer on the TV that sound very awesome a couple decades after , but I hear Dead Ringer and it's a fun album. I've grown to enjoy this one and it didn't take that long.

I have the clip someplace on one of my computers or gadgets. I thought the performance was excellent and it is one of my favorite videos. If you still can not find it PM me so I will remember it and I will look for it over the weekend.

It is the video where someone on production gets the bright idea to turn the screen blue in places. I agree Meat may not have 100% to give but he gives 100% of what he does have and brings it with all he has. I like it.

Yes I totally agree, he puts it all out there, and this performance certainly epitomised that, in my eyes anyway. And yes I definitely remember the video being particularly blue, especially in the middle 8 if I remember correctly. Anyway, PM sent, I'd really appreciate it if you manage to find it. Thanks
I get this all the time about weep live. I have the video, but Meat has told me a year ago to take it down, so its off.
heres the AUDIO ONLY on sound cloud Ive uploaded:

Of course if meat asks me to remove this off sound cloud ill oblige. so listen while you can.
Perhaps if a Meat Box Set or something was released this video could be on it. Just as it is.

Thanks, that was amazing to listen to at least. It is a shame he won't allow it on YouTube though, I personally loved this video as I'm sure many did. We're all aware of the struggles he had with his voice at that time and I feel this video shows his endurance and strength at this time. I mean imagine if he had jacked it in at that point. He carried on and did so much more, I think performances like this should be honoured and not silenced. Then we must respect Meat's wishes

Ok, that was just flat out incredible, it's even better than the studio version :yikes: How has this not been a setlist regular since forever?
I. Just. But. What? He performed this ONCE? :bicker:

It started out okay, but he lost his voice as it went on.
I understand what people say when he put everything that he has into it, as I think that he does that every time. It's just way better when he has it.

That was incredible, especially for 81/82. Can't understand why Meat wouldn't want that performance out there.

IMO, he shouldn't have a choice... but that's just me.

I agree, it was a TV broadcast after all. While he might not like the performance, it was free to air so can hardly be described as a bootleg.

I'm sure I've seen or read somewhere that Meat saw Barry Manilow performing this live and then never wanted to do it ever again!

I don't understand why Barry manilow ruined the song for him. Is it just because its HIM?
I don't like him and his version is far from my favorite, but it wasn't THAT bad.
I think that ML butchered IACBTM more that Barry Manilow ruined REAW but you don't see Celine Dion swearing off of it.

Wario you are an absolute star. I really do not know where you find all these gems but please continue.
Meats voice in that one is the Meat of old bursting with raw power and emotion and while todays Meat may have lost the power he once had he has replaced it with a clarity that has taken it to a whole new level.

Maybe because Steinman songs are meant for Meat ? Celine doesn't give a shit because she doesn't understand and neither cares about the heritage. Meat wouldn't have butchered IACBTMN if Steinman had been involved.

No, because he wouldn't have done it.
And she doesn't understand what? That someone doing a shitty cover of one of her songs (which she didn't write) means that she should never perform it again?
He told Meat it was a chick song... turns out that he was right.
And it's funny, Jim produced Manilow's version of REAW yet the common opinion is that he butchered it.
I think that it went like this: ML could barely do any shows for DR. Manilow covers REAW in the meantime. ML makes his comeback with MATLAF, BA and BBIS. Manilows version became more well known, so there's no point in doing what many would consider a Barry Manilow cover when he has to fill up a setlist from the records that he's promoting plus the hits that people know him for.
I think that he's just being mellow dramatic when he says that he stopped performing the song because of BM. The fact is that he barely performed the song to begin with.
And not ALL Jim songs are meant for ML. I can think of several that would sound ridiculous without severe rearrangement.
Celine's is good. Pandora's Box is magic. 2006's :?:
Well, two out of three ain't bad. :-)

She doesn't understand that her passionless singing destoyed a great song, or that Pandoras Box and Meat Loaf produced better versions (imo) before and after. She still sings it live because she has no shame !

I don't see how she's a passionless singer. I love not only this song but many others by her. In fact I like her version of 'Is Nothing Sacred' the best.
If you don't like her singing that's one thing, but it's ridiculous to say that she's passionless. 'Destroyed' the song? I can think of a version that may have destroyed the song, but it wasn't this one.
But anyway, this is not a Celine Dion thread.
Celine's is very good. It and it's music video.. had Steinman's touch which like Pandora's Box gives it that much more. To me it don't make sense as a duet.. never really has. And I've always heard a lady sing it.. and not a man.
imo

That's my opinion, so you should respect that, and while technically her singing is very good she lacks emotion and passion.
