Not allowing Tweets on the site.

Although I can see what the moderators are trying to do with limiting negative tweets I think it is a bad thing to have a blanket ban on tweets from non members on the site.

Considering the age we live in and the amount of tweets that even make it onto the news these days I think the attitude coming from some moderators is akin to censorship.

Ignoring there is a wealth of tweets out there (positive and negative) surely makes this site less relevant. Moreover it seems hypocritical to me considering you use the Twitter medium yourselves to promote this website.

:twisted: OK, i've tried to explain this on the thread, so let's see if I can make things a little plainer.

If a forum member goes to a show and wishes to share their opinion, that's one thing, but to go to the trouble of posting negative Tweets from people who've never even visited this site (in the very first post on the thread) is another.
It is quite literally looking for trouble.

It will achieve nothing but upset Meat after the 1st show of the tour, and create the same arguments we've had on the forum god knows how many times before.

As has been mentioned on the thread, the negative Tweets are in the minority so why are they given as much coverage on the forum as the vast majority?
To put it this way, if 1% of the Tweets are negative, would it not be more in accurate context to post 99 positive Tweets for every negative?

If the people who went to the show want to share their opinion with us they'll come to the forum.

I've been shot down in the past for asking people to give Meat a little benefit of the doubt and to keep the atmosphere positive (remember the debate about poor quality phone camera vids?), so this time it's easier to say no Tweets rather than ask that the majority of positive Tweets are represented in context to the negative.

The difference is that this is a Meat Loaf FAN Club. Negative tweets may abound but they should remain on Twitter. They do not belong on this Club.

Post 10 positive Tweets and 10 negative Tweets and it looks like the opinion of Twitter users is fairly even.

It doesn't matter that you might have had to look a lot harder for the negative Tweets, post an even ammout of negative and positive and you are showing that opinion is divided 50/50, which it obviously isn't.

As i'd get my ass burned by asking for Tweets to be posted in a more acurate ratio (or heaven forbid :panic: ) concentrate on the 99% of positive Tweets, it's easier to put a blanket ban on posting all Tweets from none members.

If those folks want their opinions discussed on this forum they are welcome to join.

But how can we tell if the people posting the tweets are from the mlukfc forum or not, the only way to do that is for us to keep both usernames from twitter and the forum the same. :?

10, I would say were positive (on the whole).

7, I would say, were pretty damn harsh.

1, was just commenting that they were there listening to AFL.

That doesn't represent a 99% positive in my book :bleh:

The first comment of them all was someone saying it was "like watching an old man reading out his will".

I really don't think Meat needs (or deserves) to read stuff like that here after giving what was (by most accounts) a great show. Especially when......

A. The people who posted those comments are not part of this community.

B. The negative Tweets are almost as well represented as the positive, even though they are by far in the minority.


If Meat wants to see those comments he can go to Twitter and find them.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on that, as I have no way of checking and was working from memory - which means that the impression I got from scanning those posts were mostly positive, but balanced.

I do agree with parts of what you're saying. But. The censorship over anything that isn't gushingly positive is oppressive, and counter-productive at the same time. You're asking (well, telling) people to only post extremely positive comments, or not to post at all. And while I get the reasons behind that, I still don't think it's right.

:twisted: I'm not going to post them again, but another post that might refresh your memory is the guy who said that he hoped the St John's Ambulance staff who were walking into the venue were there to look after the guy who is dying on stage.

I haven't told people they can only post positive comments about the shows.
As a fan, i'd be personally inclined to suggest that a positive vibe would be a good thing rather than concentrate on the few negative comments, but I know how popular that would be :facepalm:

So i've not told people to post only positive Tweets, i've told people not to post ANY Tweets.

If you'll read my posts again, you'll see that if a member of the forum, even a first time user, has an opinion on the show (positive or negative) they are completly at liberty to express it here on the forum.

There's a difference (IMHO) between sharing a youtube vid or a quote from Meat, and sharing negative and hurtful comments from a social network site that includes users that......

A. Have probably been dragged along by their partner.

and B. Last heard from Meat in 1993 and expect him to look the same, sound the same, and sing Anything For Love and the track list of Hits Out Of Hell.

We can argue round the houses from now till the rapture about this.
I think i've made our position on this quite clear.
Anything I can say has already been said in my posts above, and the post on the thread where the Tweets were first posted.
If you don't get it, read them again.

If you still have a problem with the blanket ban on Tweets, contact the webmaster.
