Don't think there is a thread yet.
Realistically what are Great Britain's chances with Bonnie?
8p7b1w_xuT8
I think the song is very mediocre unfortunately. No drama, no power. Just one of those background thingies.
I prefer the entry by The Netherlands. Although again I don't think it's a fantastic song I definitely think it has something more unique about it. Anouk is a great singer too. Her doing a Steinman song would be epic as well.

I think UK will only get something like 50 points and The Netherlands maybe triple that or something.
The odds on favourite is Denmark apparently and it sounds like a winner to me although it's VERY formulaic with the flute theme and contains that irritating finish vocal lines on a high falsetto thing. Also the lyrics are rather bland and don't really say anything in my opinion:
How many times can we win and lose?
How many times can we break the rules between us?
Only teardrops
How many times do we have to fight?
How many times till we get it right between us?
Only teardrops
Those lyrics are simply describing a situation and not really going into depth about what the feelings are about. It doesn't quite work I think but perhaps it is enough for non English speaking countries to be convinced it is good.
The girl seems like a merge between Shakira and Diana Vickers.

Who's watching since there is no Meaty concert that night?
Sebastian.

Will be watching!
There is always seems to be some gems. 2009 had some great songs: Norway, Cyprus and Belgium were my favourite that year!
Quite like Denmark this year. But not heard everything yet.

I like Bonnie's song but just as a song, not as a Eurovision song. I think it is too low-key compared to the upbeat dance tracks that everyone else seems to do. Saying that, she has been on a mega-Germany tour where she is still very popular and I think her song has a good following. I hope she does better than last year's...
I did buy her new cd which Believe is on and the cd is really, really good.

Bonnie's song ("Believe In Me") is one of her best in last 10 years.
But it's Eurovision  ... peoples choices are often political (Cyprus on Greece, Greece on Cyprus, Poland on Germany, Germany on Poland etc.) ... so I don't know  if Bonnie has a chance to win , but I will definitely be watching this year's contest.
Go Bonnie, go :cheer:...

I think Bonny's song is quite good, I think England often sends good songs to the contest.
I really don't know what will work Saturday. Probably Denmark, but that's not my favorite. Haven't heard the rest yet.
And then there's always the political thing, so the winner can be a suprise as well...
We will see...

For those who are interested...
Anouk's biggest hit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RaHTDNude4) in the Netherlands.
Was it a hit in the UK?
By the way, how do I insert youtubies? When I click on the Icon I get a blanc Youtube screen with nothing in it.
Tend to agree with Andrew .. a pleasant but rather average song. However, I also agree with Meat Loaf Fan .. The voting is so political now .. or perhaps partisan might be a better word? I think if the UK delivered something of the greatness of FCOL we'd probably get few points ;)
Don't think I've ever experienced the same frisson of excitement and sure knowledge we were listening to a winner since Waterloo .. and that was so long ago I've given up watching it
Eurovision aside, I think this song will forever remind me of The Farewell Tour as it's been on the radio so much while we've been travelling to shows!!
It's an OK song, nothing mega, dare I mention Desmond Child?!

No, Bonnie is not that popular in Germany anymore and would not fill decent sized venues on her own.
The tour was "Classic Meets Rock" where she was billed alongside Paul Rodgers, Eric Bazilian (Hooters), Steve Augeri (Journey) and Chris Thompson (Manfed Manns Earth Band) plus an orchestra and it did not sell that well.
Was good to see her do Total Eclipse and Hero (plus Believe In Me, Heartache and The Best).
But due to what has become of the ESC, Believe In Me will unlikely get many points from Germany or anywhere.
BTW, Chris Thompson, who has performed with Patti in the SAS band, attended Meats gig in Oberhausen.

 As I said on another thread, I now understand how an English sports fan feels in an international tournament :lawl:
Daring to hope that this year we'll do it, completley gagging the voice of reason that tells you "not a hope in hell".
As a race, we Brits crave disapointment
We all know it's a political thing and the music comes 2nd place (if that).
You know you are screwed when you are holding onto 2nd to bottom place, and then Belarus overtakes you
Hopefully Bonnie still has enough fans in Europe to make them pay some attention, but the fan vote is only part of it, and i'm afraid it'll be the same old orgy of ass kissing.
I really liked Denmark's song the other night in the heats
Russia was pretty good too.
Moldova had to have best outfit. The dress with the lighting flashing on it and then turned into a volcano was pretty cool 8)
Weirdest translated lyrics has got to go to Serbia. "Your heart is fish food" :wtf:
Moments I wanted to smash the telly - Draw between the first act to use a dance track, and the rapping spacemen.
I've never prayed so hard for an alien invasion

Oh well Bonnie. 19th out of 26 ain't band.
Only saw a few moments. Did that presenting guy called the female presenter a MILF? She didn't seem amused by it.
And WTF has happened to Bonnie Tyler's face
Apart from that, Great winner and Malta deserved to end higher
The usual farce!!! The funniest part of the yearly Eurovision I enjoy is listening to graham norton forgetting what country he is from? Terry Wogan had the same problem in the past.

 It's an event where countries can kiss the asses of their friends without actually paying attention to the musib :bleh:
That said, Denmark's entry was very good 8)

Some kind of voting system where you do not know the country of the song would be the best but it would be very complicated to get off the ground I guess.
I certainly hope this is the last time the UK send in singers over 60 (no offence!) and the last time we have such a drab song. Judging by what wins over the last ten years you need a twenty year old dizzy female singer singing an upbeat song in which the lyrics make no sense. Furthermore it is interesting that the winners from say Germany and Denmark actually look/talk as if they are British. They seem to beat us at our own game. And we send in the Hump and Bonnie in return. Foolish.
Loved Denmark's entry, really catchy! Also really liked Malta, that would be brilliant if somene like Mumford and Sons built on it!
Greece and Finland were great too, all good fun!
Bonnie...Jesus Christ....not good! A little bit of me almost felt sad seeing her up there doing that :?
Highlight for me, as always, is Graham Norton! He cracks me up! Over recent years Andy and I have done a lot of journies on a Saturday morning and his Radio 2 show is brilliant, love him!

I thought bonnie did a fine job with what she had, but that song choice was a terrible song for a Eurovision entry.
That's the sort of song I'd expect to find mid album somewhere lol.

It's crazy to think that for example The Netherlands who have struggled for years to get into the final actually had a song years ago which sounds similar to Denmark's entry. Up the tempo, give the singers a good scrub and you are there really. 7A3IS5lTf_I

I wouldn't have thought the BBC actually want to win because then they would have to pay to host it. Lol. At the moment it's a relatively cheap and popular way of filling 3 hours of airtime.

For many years now Eurovision has not been about the best song winning it has been about countries with close ties voting for their friends.
Even Germany, in the past considered one of the strongest countries in the "competition", was trounced this year.
Angela Merkel the German chancillor hit the nail on the head with her comments " People didn't vote for Germany because we have now adopted a tough economic stance on handouts to other countries similar to the one the UK has had for some time"

Very true! The country that won this year has to host & pay all the expenses of next years competition.
There was a well publicised case a couple of years ago just before Ireland had to apply for a bailout from the EU where they were in such dire straights financially they intentionally chose a weak entrant because they physically could not afford to host the competition again if they won.

We can now only rely on Malta and Ireland for a point or two.
But, my highlight is the French stubborness in refusing to announce their results in English as per the other 38 voting countries.
