" We are working on an early Sept. Release !!! WE have so much going on Trying to finish all the tracks by the end of Feb. Then Back to Vegas for 8 or 9 weeks . Then in May do all the vocals !! Mix in June !! Maybe just maybe will do a run of Festivals in Europe , no Uk !!! Please don't ask questions about the WEST END because right now I have no answers !!! I'm pushing hard for it to Happen !! M"

So he might do a run of festivals in Europe next summer? That would be awesome!!! JUMP JUMP!!! I know, no promises...

Sorry Meat but I wouldn't be going to a festival regardless of who was playing.

I can't think of anything worse than having to camp and standing around in muddy fields in the rain being pushed around by thousands of other people.

I don't blame you Jenna ... give me a nice little intimate theater or indoor arena any day :D

This all sounds like great news. I am hoping I get to go back to Vegas next year if his plans do work out. I will be right in the middle of tax season if he comes back in March/April time so I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can make it to at least one show!!

Sorry Meat but I wouldn't be going to a festival regardless of who was playing.

I can't think of anything worse than having to camp and standing around in muddy fields in the rain being pushed around by thousands of other people.

But what if the weather is very nice, the festival is lovely situated next to a lake with a beach (so very nice vues), you can stay at great hotels in town (or a nice holidayhome next to the venue; ever heard of Centerparcs?) and it's not situated in the middle of nowhere (like most festivals are), but it's situated in the best suburb of town. Here's the suggestion:

It's called Retropop and it focuses on the artists who had hits in de the 70', 80' and 90'. The last years some fantastic artists performed on Retropop. Like Kim Wilde, 10CC, Status Quo, Sheila E, UB40, Level 42, Alphaville, Simon and Garfunkel, etcetera.
It's in the Netherlands, only 10 miles from the German border, so if you would like to visit Germany as well, no problem.
The tickets cost about 50 euro's and the venue takes place whole day (from 13.00 hrs. to midnight).

Meat, come to Retropop, you would fit in perfectly!
The date for Retropop 2014 will be 7th of June.

A person can dream, can't she?

Did you not do casa de carne tour???

 Well I did, and the only ones I didn't stand in the rain for were Nottingham and Clearwater and Pompano in Fla .. I think we got away with a light shower at the start of the Excel ;)

Personally I avoid festivals .. the crush, and the fact that you don't always get a full set. I'll set my sights on Vegas, and a hope to see the Vegas style show in London :-)

Did you not do casa de carne tour???

No. The first show I went to was on the Hang Cool Tour.

Besides, it's the idea of General Admission rather than allocated seating that is the main thing that puts me off of festivals.

By the end of the tour it was wellies!

What massively puts me off this is that we're not talking about General Admission Meat Loaf shows, we're talking about Meat playing at festivals, presumably as one of many acts, so it's all the horrors (they're horrors to me anyway!) of outdoor GA/festivals to see a very short set. The thought of being stood in a festival crowd horrifies me.

All that said, see what happens when if he announces it and it's a case of this Meat or no Meat

Me too; festivals haven't appealed to me since I said goodbye to my teens and twenties for the same reasons ;) .. although if it comes off I'm pleased for fans in mainland Europe. I'll aim for the next Vegas residency and hope Meat manages to pull off the London residency at the end of the year. I've had so many wonderful years of concerts .. but the new style of show showcases so much more of Meat's skills, and a theatre suits my knees and advancing years much better (just as it does Meat's ;) )

Sounds good for the album. I have to wonder how involved Jim is beyond contributing already finished material to keep up that pace.

Festivals can be hit or miss depending on the festival itself who else is on the bill and where Meat would sit on the bill so the jury is still out on that one for me.

Vegas ... April please rather than March ... March is the end of my holiday year at work so I'll be low on days available.

London possibly? Great news. Can see a number of meetings being scheduled to coincide with show dates :))

Not to mention the sound almost always sucks and half the audience is disinterested in whoever is on the stage at any given time. Not my idea of the place to see the guy with the 10 minute epic emotional rollercoaster songs. Still, plenty of other stuff to look forward to.

All that puts me off festivals too, which is why I wouldn't travel to see them. However, if that's what Meat can do in Europe I think it's great that he's trying to do them for those fans who can't travel to see Rocktellz & Cocktails :-)

I still don't get why Meat does't like doing festivals in the UK. So he got bottled at what was considered a hard rock festival back in the day, but there are plenty of poppy festivals that would accommodate him. Yeh he would go down like a lead balloon at Download or Reading (probably bottled), but what about T4 on the Beach or Party in the Park? Those pop festivals love people like Meat Loaf.

It's a bit immaterial now though as he's not intending to do any more touring, which disappointing as it is, makes sense. He seemed so much more rested and happier at Vegas without the stress and strain of being on the road.

lots of artists decide to retire from touring and then do other tours...I wouldn't rule it out a couple years down the road

"not intending" which leaves second option very much open!

Yes, some do. However, I think Meat has made up his mind, plus he is rather different to other artists. He has a well established film career that he can continue as long as he wants and provides an outlet for his creative drive that he really loves. He is judged by media critics and many fans on his voice. Touring is tiring and stressful, particularly for someone who expends so much energy when he's on stage. A residency avoids that and means he can be more confident that his voice will not be a worry, makes it easier for his discipline of vocal rest days between shows. He's an American and he's establishing himself as a Vegas residency performer.

That when Meat's on tour and strides on stage he looks amazingly powerful and packed with energy is a tribute to his commitment and determination. What we don't see is how tired he is when he's off stage .. although ISP gives anyone a real insight, and that was made a few years ago now.

I'm as sad as anyone that he has finished touring. Might he ever do a short tour overseas again? Not totally impossible, but unlikely imo. Whether he will be able to do residencies overseas has yet to be seen, though I hope he will be able to. However, in North America he has no need to go back on the road as residencies are a clear and viable option. Promoters aren't very enthusiastic about what they consider "small" tours of less than 20-30 shows, and tours of that length plus the travelling involved there means I don't see a tour happening, and the more years down the road the more unlikely imo.

For several years now I've treated each tour as though it might be the last one I'll see, and I think Last at Bat in Europe was just that. Meat's had a long and pretty glorious touring career, and I understand and accept his decision that he's stepping into a new chapter as an artist. America will I think have him performing in residencies for some years .. so I'll save like mad to try and see him there for as long as I can ;)

"not intending" which leaves second option very much open!

My two words, not Meat's. Meat has said repeatedly he will not tour again, will only perform where he can sit for a few weeks and do no more than 3 shows a week. I don't think the "second option" is open at all really, for all the reasons I've outlined. Meat doesn't need to half kill himself on tour for the money (which is why some artists come back) .. and now has an outlet for performing on stage to satisfy his creative drive which doesn't require that he does.

Way I look at it .. Meat still has so much he wants to do artistically, both on stage and screen. Just to face down the elephant in the room for a moment, he's also now at that stage of staring down the barrel of one's own mortality, but wants to be around for a long time yet to do what he loves doing. I think he's found the answer at Vegas .. he looked so much less stressed there. Still tired at the end of a performance because he puts so much into it .. but not as exhausted and stressed as he gets on tour. I think he's made a decision, and that it's a good one for him. I look forward to him being able to satisfy that creative urge for many years to come :-)
