Not sure if anybody knew but Meat is starting UK TV and radio promotional campaign this coming Monday. He's live on BBC1 at 7pm.

Apologies if everyone already knew!

Will be good to see. Though I find meat seems to miss out on some really good shows these days. I.e. Graham Norton, Alan Carr, Celebrity Juice.
Would love to see him on something where he can let loose a bit, as I find the one show and loose women to be a bit 'yawn'.

Before someone jumps in to defend the choices, I get that it's due to viewing figures...but still....I think meat works better in more fun and freeing situations, as opposed to well controlled pre watershed ones.

Meat's said many times .. they pitch them all, and he takes those that offer and that fit the time frame and can be worked together in a short promo schedule. It's not like he can ask us what shows we'd like to see him on and instruct them to accommodate him ;) It's not about choices .. it's promo; he does as much as he can, and I enjoy all he does, even when it means watching a show I'd normally consider pushing pins through my eyes a better alternative  Those minutes he's on screen makes it worthwhile :D

You're all so reasonable.

Yes Meat was on Graham Norton...over 10 years ago now!

Well i do recall him asking in the past...

Just as a 30 year old guy who likes Meat well enough to want to see him succeed I never think the audience demographics from the like of loose women, one show etc are the ones I'd go for if I were his PR team. But I guess that why I don't do PR. Despite the fact that I'd be ace!

Daytime TV does little for me. 7/10 people are in work/school or on their way between. Hence why evening/night time appearances I feel are best.

Yes you've said Caryl that the shows are pitched...as unfortunately this time around theres no big chat shows on currently. The current format of Graham Norton would work for Meat I feel.

Or even shows like QI or Would i Lie to you. Meat likes improv, I'm sure he could go on that and spin and good yarn. and he'd have fun.

TV is a dead format now and production companies look more to on demand and youtube views. Show's like loose women aren't just daytime tv programmes anyone, they are watched by a large demographic throughout the week. Chat shows like Graham Norton just don't get the views that something like Parkinson used to get.

the highest publicity on TV Meat could get now is to be on a celebrity dating show or to get talked about on goggle box. That's just the reality of 2016, unfortunately.

Well put.

Give it 10 years and the licence fee will no longer exist in its present form.
I think also this was the BBC's last mass holiday abroad for the Olympics paid by all UK TV owners and quite rightly so.

It sadly is dying. But You can certainly get attention through it...I doubt anyone has forgotten the 'bus incident' from the chisib promo tour. I think he should do it again on Friday. Oxford street needs better sound than the pneumatic drills and car horns.

September 8 at 7pm, photographer Martin Hausler is to launch an exhibition featuring his work at London's Sanctum Soho hotel, which will include photos of Meat. Meat is quoted as saying " This man is one of the greatest photographers of all time. If you miss it, you are wrong." Might he make an appearance on the opening night after the signing?

100% with you on that one. Younger people I know seem to like it a lot.

Dress it up with a cool music video with the backing singers, costumes and theatrics, put clips up on instagram, etc

Make it quirky and authentic Meat Loaf and I think people will dig it

Now is not the time and here is not the place to bring up age old arguments about the previous fan campaign attempts, from either side.

So, please don't bother going any further down that road. Lets not detract from a new album that is being released imminently and all the promo that that will bring with it. I'd hate for you to kiss some of the discussion and excitement here by being on an enforced short break...

The One Show is celebrating its tenth anniversary tonight. What better present for the presenters than to present to the audience a present day rock n roll hero, presently.

I don't think I would want to be the one to tell meat he got the name of the song wrong. But nethertheless this was an okay interview. The one show easily draws over 4m so fantastic exposure for the album and he had a good amount of time to talk about it. I think it's fair to say he was tired but promo is relentless. We only see the moments when the cameras roll and the mics are live but it'd a whole lot of waiting and repeating. It's exhausting and is why many artist try and put it off.

I love love love Meat Loaf. But I found it hard to watch the interview and listen to him on the radio today. He got a little bit better as the One show interview went on but he looked too tired to be there in my opinion.

I think he should go home and be with his family and take some time off working. I understand there are thousands of commitments, demands from him etc and people want him to do this and that either for their personal gratification or financial gain but seriously there are more important things in life than another show and another tour.

The album is a gift from the gods and I always got more from Meat Loaf than I ever think I deserved (for me it was very easy to see multiple shows on UK tours and I got to meet him and speak to him on quite a few occasions). In return I've been a right asshole at times on here and other places on the net and for that I am very sorry but Meat was almost always the next person on my mind straight after my small circle of family/girlfriend & friends and my pet.

You're braver than we are Meat but you have nothing to prove I think.

Take care Meat. Please look after yourself. Much love.

Was a good interview. Yes Meat looked very tired, of course understandable.
What a career this man has had ( still having ). Im so looking forward to the album, dont know how i have waited lol, and IF we get a new tour lets all make sure we enjoy it as much as possible. I think we have all seen Meat lately, and im sure privately we have all said it, but lets all stay positive and enjoy the rest of the promo

I think Meat would wither away without work .. imo he works because of who and what he is rather than being driven by others' demands. The driver is him .. and as he draws a line under touring he will throw himself into films and TV work. His passion is driven internally and by his belief that learning and developing is his raison d'etre

I loved his appearance tonight :D

Meat looked/sounded tired, yes. But the man is almost 69 years old and flew halfway across the world to do these interviews. I'm pretty sure jet lag + his therapy sessions he says he has almost daily are taxing on him. Meat would not be out there if his doctors didn't want
Him to be. He will be fine.

The thing I don't get is all this 'he looks frail/in decline' crap I'm seeing on Twitter. What do 69 year old men look like in the part of the world these people occupy?

The thing I don't get is all this 'he looks frail/in decline' crap I'm seeing on Twitter. What do 69 year old men look like in the part of the world these people occupy?

Part of that definitely is down to the fact that television gives people a skewed vision of the world. It is obsessed with youth and once you're past 60 as a man you can pretty much forget getting on the TV. For women it's about 45 it seems. There are exceptions (if you are a long going well known tv presenter etc) but not many from what I've seen.

I was still surprised but that is more down to the fact I know Meat rather than an age related thing.

Also Twitter isn't the full compass of reality either. :-P I've thought about closing my account about ten times this year alone. Either you see people praise things or tear things a new asshole and there isn't much room in between.

I just re-watched it, and yeah he definitely warmed up towards the end like Andrew said.

Yeah, he looked tired at first. But people look tired. A young person that looks tired looks different than someone who is almost 70 who is very tired.

It's ok.

people are just noticing Meat's age. Remember folks, the last time many of them saw him was 1993 or in 2006 when he was promoting Bat 3.

It's a perfectly normal thing to notice your parents/grandparents getting those classic signs / mannerisms of an older person as they become an older person.

Nobody wants it to happen - perhaps none of us are ready for it to happen to Meat.

I thought he looked pretty spiffy for a man of his age still working his ass off .. clear skin and eyes, still passionate and enthusiastic. And "frail" is a word I cannot associate with Meat!:lol:

He does look pale compared to the rather bucolic John Sergeant .. but I'm welcoming and embracing that ;)

He definitely is still a handsome fella, and has that twinkle in his eye. I dig it.

This promo sounds different, way different, than Bat 3, HCTB or HIAHB.

He sounds wise, he sounds like he is full of depth and knowledge, and even though he always has been, he acts more like it now. His confidence is there more than ever before.

His interviews like this are going to sell records. Probably more so than performances.

His artistic craziness, eclectic conversation style and rock star appeal is a win IMO. Even from the people who are worried he was 'on something'. It makes him seem interesting in all sorts of ways :)

Talk it up bro. Work the room.

Fact of the matter seems to be, even though I think people's reaction to him being a bit rambly and tired to be pretty disproportionate (no offense to Meat, but he's always had a habit of being rambly in interviews anyway, it's nothing new - think he's mentioned they make him nervous before and after days and days of being asked the same questions anyone would be the same).....it seems to have translated into pre-orders and people remembering how much they love the guy. So in other words a pretty successful promo appearance!

Oh that's ok. There's no reason to be sorry.

I'm concerned too.

At my wedding (4 years ago), my Grandma looked like Meat - just not well - Like she was overwhelmed with life and tired as ~~~~.

Turned out she has an 11cm tumor in her abdomen that she had removed a year and a half later. (not cancer just a big growth)

This year she turned 71 and she looks better than she did 4 years ago, she's happy and healthy and feeling good. She really has recovered a lot from all her ailments and seems younger like how I remember. They take a lot out of you and she has had multiple surgeries, and has had MANY throughout her life.

Oh and I should note that when she didn't look well, she had also recently had surgery on her foot to correct what arthritis had done to it, and a couple years before that, radiation for a tumor (not cancer thank god)

So I think you have every right to be worried Andrew. I think I agree with you - I don't think Meat is in optimal health at this time, even considering his age. And I am glad he is choosing not to tour, and to limit his engagements.

I hope he allows himself to heal and takes the time he needs.

Just hearing his breathing on the radio concerned me.

Reminds me of Lemmy and you can tell when someone is in a bad way and when it is more than just "getting older", although he's not nearly as bad as Lemmy was when I became a fan in early 2015.

Only reason I mentioned my comments about people just "not wanting Meat to get older" is that I think it's partially true - that Meat is just almost a 70 year old, heavy set man who still works very hard and doesn't rest enough.

But yes, Sorry Andrew, you're definitely right, there is more to it than just old age at play here. You just get that gut feeling that they're not in a good way right now, compared to how you remember them.

However, that doesn't mean the end is near, or that he's dying, or anything silly and extreme!

It just means that health and well being are what he needs to make his job for now, and for the near future. He needs to make learning about health and how get healthier his goal. he said he loves learning, and to never stop. If he switched his thinking to that, I'm sure his health would improve a lot. He can make it his "job" to "be the healthiest version of himself he can be", if it is a job and a busy one that takes discipline then it will be right up his alley. It will be accomplishing a personal goal. And then he'd have more energy and faculties to put into future projects instead of running on near empty, as we saw on that video....Just my two cents :-)

He has had multiple surgeries over the last few years - knee operations, multiple back surgeries, tumor removed, etc - and those are just what we have heard of. Surgeries, especially in older people who take longer to heal, can really set them back. I think that really is mostly what we're seeing here. He just needs to stop for awhile and rest, and take care of himself. It should be about him for awhile. Like I said, if he could just make it a job he'd be interested in it. Make your own health your ~~~~ing job! I think if Steinman was worried like that, we should all be. And no, it's not life or death or Meat wouldn't be on the radio or on TV, but it's enough to be concerned for a friend and hope they get what they need to be healthy and happy!!!

There is one big difference to this promo to some recent ones - particularly Bat 3 which had a much bigger promo than HCTB or HIAH. Meat WANTS to promote this album.

This is his and Jim's final defiant statement of everything they have always been - outcasts, off the track, purposely out of time with current musical trends and not about to be put in a box by some record label boss who "knows" what makes good music and good sales.

This is not just an album, not just even the final album...to Meat, I feel, this is THE album, the ONLY album that matters...more than Bat 2 did, more that Bat did. He IS this album, he lives the songs of this album and he's been around long enough now to appreciate what all of that means and how important it is compared to when he recorded Bat as a much younger and more naïve man.

I've sang it's praises from the start because I get the massive theatrical event that this album is (which Meat kind of explained on the One Show when he said he wanted it to be one continuous symphony), and I do get a little bit emotional that the album is about to be a successful swansong, almost as emotional as listening to the last 2 minutes of GATW kick in and realising that this is the last time we are likely to hear ANYTHING that sounds like this again. Definitely bittersweet, but it looks like its going to be something special to go out on and I'm especially pleased that Meat waited for Jim to provide the full album rather than the original plan from a couple of years ago. It had to end with the two of them together again. Sometimes rock and roll dreams do come through.

Just watched it, yes a bit off at the start but he warmed up nicely.

It does bother me that with all the promo nobody thought to do a 30 second video of current footage, don't like the new song over old footage, could have knocked up a vid on an iphone when they were in the studio that would've been better, Meat with the girls would've been cool but what do I know.

Coming to praise Caesar rather than to bury him .. One thing I noticed, as I always do, is when others were having their turn on the couch, was Meat's body language .. turning and leaning forward, listening intently, hands clasped between his knees, and motionless. I've watched him melt into the background motionless so often on stage when someone else is singing or playing their solo, ensuring attention is on them and not him. The sign of a generous actor or performer who fills the stage when it is his turn, and hands all attention to another when they are featured .. never looks away, fidgets, or does anything to draw attention to himself.

And kudos to him for his weight loss which he is proud of and rightly so. He often says he'll never look or be like Mike Jagger, but that smooth unleathery skin looks SO much better to me, and he still looks youthful :-)

I'd just add .. I think Meat takes and manages his health as seriously as he does his performance, and more than most. His huge courage and tenacity are admirable, and he uses them to overcome the obstacles fate has strewn in his path.

A healthier lifestyle often leads to considerable weight loss.
Then, if you haven't seen that person since before the new regime they will often appear more gaunt. Yet, the reality is they have extra vitality, energy and a spring in their step.
Meat's gym work is paying dividends!

Worrying about his health means I care, I care very much, and I don't think he will be buried any time soon, I think he has had health issues (AS WE ALL KNOW) and he is working hard on fixing them!! So let's just leave it there or I'm going to get really angry.

Anyways.

Meats well being is always a priority and in my thoughts. Of course I have concerns...to not be concerned for someone you care about would not be normal..that doesn't take away from the promo and how much I think he is looking lovely and doing great, as always.

Its great that so many people really care and love Meat.

Vx

Just saw that article. Although an article like that will try to paint a certain binary picture and in this case it's exaggerated somewhat I think, I really do think people ought to pipe down a bit with demands for a tour. I fully understand the excitement but at the same time Jesus Christ it's not as if he hasn't toured his ass off this decade, which he has. I'd rather live with the knowledge that he is enjoying his life than that I get to see another show. At the moment I feel it's more than we deserve. Even the memories of all those foregone shows are plentiful for most surely.

At the same time this news coverage will probably help to boost the Braver album sales. :-)

I'd say to those who are going to the signing not to waste your precious little time in asking him when he is going to tour again. There are better questions you can ask I reckon. But I really do hope everyone including Meat enjoys tomorrow.

One of my favourite comments: 'Meat Loaf looked much healthier in 2004'.

Well, no shit, that was 12 years ago. I mean, I looked healthier back then, too

P.S. I'd argue that's closer to a cane than a 'walking stick', which looks incredibly cool. Meat should go all out and get one with a silver skull on the top (or a bat, obviously), and carry it around whether he needs to or not.

Loo roll. I use a stick for hiking when we go on holiday.

Seriously Tom Baker, then 79, came into a Doctor Who convention on a walking stick, I was worried but he was on stage rattling off anecdotes and the room was mesmerised.

The venue was a school, the autograph room was a classroom so we had to snake round the desks whilewe waited, and being in that room waiting for 30-40 minutes was jsut amazing, because although he was talking to each guest as they went through Tom was telling his stories and joking, taking his time and we all loved watching him entertaining every one in his old whimsical way. Everyone was smiling.

It was absolutely magical!!

Little known fact: I had a coffee (actually, it was earl grey tea, thinking about it) with Tom Baker after bumping into him in a Waterstones in 1999. He'd just finished a signing and everyone had gone, and he was waiting for someone to pick him up.

My mistake -- it was actually 1997, for the book Who On Earth Is Tom Baker. How time flies
