Great that he mentioned 'Martha' as the best non-Steinman song. I so much agree!
Btw, I think WTTN is an underrated album.
Martha... of all things ... MARTHA?
guess he watched Batman v Superman recently.

For the actor in him, I'm not surprised he would choose that. It's a real melodrama of a song.

I think Martha is possibly my least favourite ML track ever. And I mean ever. WTTN is a great album, but for me it dips in quality with the last two tracks.

angels sing is a tear jerker

It's one of those songs which conjures up a whole and compelling story, so easy for many to relate to, and Meat's delivery is just exquisite

Really? So funny, all these different tastes...
To me it's one of the best.
One of the worst imho is 'not a dry eye in the house'. Yuk.
And 'where angels sing' is a skipper for me too.
Best of the album: Rubber, Original sin, Amnesty, Left in the dark and ofcourse Martha (thé best). :-)

I don't mind it...but I get where you're coming from. There's something about it that just doesn't grab me...it's that lacking in most (not all but most) of Diane Warren's songs for me.

I just remembered, Meat did NOT A DRY EYE one time in a German show, he probably didn't sing live and the band didn't play live. But as far as I can remember it was a liveshow.
Than at 1.40 something went wrong with the tape and at 3.48 something went wrong again (the act.1 act.2 act.3 part).
I've just looked it up if it was on youtube, and yes, here it is.
Meat must have been upset by it I guess. I can imagine from that time on he only wanted to sing and play with the band live.

I'm sure back then a lot of TV appearances were forced to be lip sync (not just for Meat) by a combination of management/labels not wanting their artists to potentially go out of tune which would obviously have affected their sales sooooo much  And there were some where the studios just didn't have the time/equipment to set everything up properly for a full band performance. The National Lottery shows and daytime TV were always the same here.
It's one of those songs which conjures up a whole and compelling story, so easy for many to relate to, and Meat's delivery is just exquisite
I feel that way about the entire album. I sit with eyes closed listening to it and can imagine the entire album as a film ...

Isn't that every meat record?
Isn't that every meat record?
Not to me. Certainly he delivers songs that way, but I wouldn't see every album playing out like an entire and complete film. I don't get that from the Bat albums for eg, although each song conjures a scene or story. Dead Ringer, and Midnight each have strong scenes, but don't play like one movie.
But WTTN plays more an a whole movie, as does HCTB to me, whilst HIAH plays like an evening with Meat Loaf in a theatre. BTWA plays, to me, like an entire operetta in a theatre, seamless from start to finish
Isn't that every meat record?
more so with WTTN for me ...
Bat 1, DR, BA, BBIS, Bat 2, WTTN, CHSIB (with the intermission and everything), and HCTB are all movies to me.

to quote my favourite ever interview of meats, which was for the release of welcome to the neighbourhood.
maybe an almost exact quote
"I knew the sequence of this record, before the songs were written! I make it happen..."
Bat 1, DR, BA, BBIS, Bat 2, WTTN, CHSIB (with the intermission and everything), and HCTB are all movies to me.
So not every Meat record then ;)

This ties his appearance on Shatner's Raw Nerve for my favourite Meat interview. Dan Rather did a great, great job covering all bases. No wonder he's held in such high regard.
This, shatner, and Piers Morgan all had stellar interviews
