Perhaps you can contact the guy of this website (http://meatloafexperience.com/other.htm) (scroll down the list)

Although I'm pretty sure he has to look into his archives for it. But hey, you can always try ;)

Tanz der Vampire is without a doubt among Jim's best work. The fact that the Vienna/Berlin production is still running clearly shows that it truly is among the best original musicals of the last 20 years, up there with the likes of The Book of Mormon, Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hamilton. Which makes the disaster that was DOTV all the more infuriating.

Why would anyone think that Mel Brooks-style parody and earnest and sincere, bombastic Wagnerian rock would mesh together at all? What the ~~~~ was with Michael Crawford's performance, and that strange mix of cartoonish Italian and Cockney in his accent? (I know he said it made singing Jim's lyrics easier, but I don't see how that would affect anything) The additional "spoof" characters, the gutting of other, better ones, and the incredibly static staging, especially the inferior rendition of Total Eclipse Of The Heart. Also, missing that violin solo in "Garlic/Knoblauch!"

I did like the opening "concert lighting" for the overture, the addition of Angels Arise and God Has Left The Building, a select few of the jokes worked, and I actually liked the modern Times Square ending. But nothing else works. Also, I personally would have liked God Has Left The Building to have some additional wah-wah, the addition of slide guitar, and a mad guitar/violin battle. That number should make someone experience an effect like snorting a rail of coke, emptying a bottle of Jack, and reaching orgasm all at once.

For all of this, David Sonenberg clearly is at fault. And it is amazing that it actually made him and Jim not speak to each other for some time.

I think there is a way to recapture the magic of Tanz for an English audience, and a chance for a revival, by adding the few good parts about DOTV and meshing it with the original to create something truly wonderful. Maybe Jim will look into revisiting it after Bat takes off.

The few good parts about DOTV were ripped from either Tanz (in the case of most of the score) or Batman (in the case of some of the new numbers). I say stick with what works when bringing Tanz to an English audience, but that's just me.

For ME, "Tanz" was one of the last great musicals of the 20th century. I also include "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut" in that list. "Tanz" like "Phantom" for me, also, is a show where everything comes together. Everything just works. Alan Jay Lerner, lyricist of "My fair lady" "Camelot" etc., who at one point was going to write lyrics for "Phantom", said to Andrew, "My dear boy. Don't question the plot. It just works." I feel that's what they did with "Dance of the Vampires" on Broadway. They questioned it :(

PS. Could somebody please explain where the picture from Letsgotoofar's avatar comes from? I actually dreamed about that last night finding it in a rare edition of Bat 2!!!
