View Full Version : Meat Loaf - Original Album classics boxset
I was just wondering if anybody has this boxset - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Original-Album-Classics-Meat-Loaf/dp/B00RVD8CX6
and if so what they think of it. A friend of mine has got into Meat loaf big time, and is slowly buildin gup her collection, and sees this as a quick way to get the 80's albums in one hit, for a decent price (£10 in her local music shop)
From my research they are all the original release albums, but feature the aparantly rare usa mix of Bad Attitude (I don't know if that makes any difference!) so just wonderered if any of the Meat experts here could offer any opinion as to if it'd be a worthwhile purchase or not!

If you don't already own the albums it's an excellent purchase. If you already own the individual CDs then it's a pointless purchase.
Is there any real difference between the Us and Uk mixes of bad attitude, other than the tracklist? I can't really advise her as i own these albums digitally, so price wise it's a nice way to get her collection boosted i guess!

the US mix if far superior, some tracks that fade out dont fade out as fast or as sudden. meat's vocals are more clear.
overall a far superior mix.

I haven't heard the UK mix now in something like nearly ten years :( I used to have the files here, but they're gone. When I got my copy of Bad attitude, originally, it was the US remix. I definitely noticed a difference from other versions I'd heard on compilation albums. I thought that was cool because I wasn't expecting it. I didn't know why at the time. I just heard the "Surf's up" UK version the other night and was like  That one must have changed the most
Cheatin' in your dreams for some reason is really soft on the US mix.

I dunno, "Cheatin' In Your Dreams" has always sounded soft to me no matter the mix. I twiddle the dial and then have to turn it way down when I switch back from the CD player to regular radio.

Yes, most of the songs are remixed. Unfortunately they were remixed by different people which leaves the album feeling half finished and a bit all over the place. Individually the US songs are generally much better than the UK versions, but as a whole the UK album is a more consistent listening experience.

...unless you get the UK first press vinyl (which is exceptional).

Close. But not quite true, there were re-recordings or additional recording of elements of some tracks with Bob Kulick at the production helm and the other tracks were only remixed, which explains the differences across the tracks
in the US version.

Not all tracks are remixed though. "Nowhere fast" and "Don't leave your mark on me" are pretty much identical. Got to hear this version again. Sooo trippy!!! The US mix is the one I'm most used to.

Definitive 'Modern Girl' is neither version for me. It's the Freeway Mix instead.
