I can't imagine one happening. He has an acting gig and has been recovering from his back issues. I can't see him doing more than a one off and even then he would probably get criticized over it, so I think he is probably done.

Agreed.
I think he honestly needs to rest his music career. Give it 5 years. Who knows what could happen.

In an interview with the Globe and Mail Canada today Meat, when talking about Bat the Musical said 'and all of my shows WERE really high energy' not 'all of my shows ARE...'
That sentence made my heart sink. I think we're done for Meat concerts. But Last at Bat in Manchester was a pretty amazing gig to go out on for me!
Also there would be no money in doing one show. Meat would do a tour if he was doing any more and I just don't think he's able to do it...
Yes, to get a promoter to back him he would have to tour, and I don't think he'd do that unless he felt he could give the high octane shows he wants to give his fans

Meat sang along a bit with "Dead Ringer" just now at the Toronto musical launch. He stayed in the background and sounded much like he did on "BTWA" from what I could hear. I was a bit surprised he sang any but he seemed to really be enjoying lending support to the young cast.

There wouldn't be enough money but I thought maybe a one-off for a DVD -CD release but I won't hold my breath. Like Meat says he would want it 100% and it would cost a fortune and may well lose money. I would be concerned for him if he toured. A family member has similar back issues and it takes a lot of care just not to re-injure anything.

Yes, I thought that was great and he looked so happy to be doing it :) It shows just how far he has fought back .. but his final gesture to Andrew was really evocative of, as he has said, passing the stage baton on. And to safe and good hands I think .. Andrew has done as Meat counselled and found his own truth in the songs.

Much as I am saddened, I too would be concerned. It's been a long and hard fight back, and I suspect he is still in pain. He's given so much on stage for 4 decades .. I'd hate to see him undo the healing he's achieved, rather than continue acting and be creative in that aspect of his career for many years to come.

While I hope for one more...I'm not holding my breath. But that said...if there is one...I'll do my damnedest to be there. It was GREAT to see Meat singing again today. You could see the fire and passion in his eyes still there...If only the body were just as willing...

Unfortunately I think its for the best he doesnt anytime soon, on the Bat Toronto Launch last night he could barely talk and his joining in singing reveals there's little left of his voice.

It's weird. I've been interested in the Bat musical for years. Followed the whispers on Rockman for years. Now that it's finally here I'm not fussed about it all. Probably because it is exactly going hand in hand with Meat Loaf's musical / performance retirement. I guess for me the Bat music simply doesn't live beyond him so much, in fact I was more interested seeing Meat style tributes than a totally new generation doing something different with the music.
But boy was watching Meat live and following all his music a hell of a ride over the last 25+ years. The best for me out of all entertainment I can list that has inspired and wow-ed me so far.
I disagree with eltmatt's post which I'm not going to repeat. To say he "could barely talk" is far from what I witnessed, and given I very much doubt he'd done a vocal warm up, he sang fine too. In fact as the song progressed his voice WAS warming up and had real strength.
And he was bloody ENJOYING himself while giving centre stage to the new young performers, looking well, happy and so much slimmer. Andrew says

It has been :D I think he's made it pretty clear he's drawn the line under touring .. but last night he was on form and looking good and happy .. can't we simply celebrate that? I think it's the least he deserves ..

Meat wasn't there to sing. I found it good that he seemed to enjoy just being in the background for all the young performers and to give them his endorsement. Had he taken a more active vocal part he probably would have been slated for taking the focus off the cast. What he did was likely for fun just on one song. The little I heard (as he was singing along) was about the same as the last album but not enough of a sample to make any broad statement over.

If it happens, great, I'll be there. But I don't think it will and perhaps it shouldn't. Better Meat focuses on archival releases and his acting than another stage collapse - I don't think any of us want that. Next time he might not get back up.

You could hear his voice cracking whilst just talking.
He was out of time with even singing the bits he was trying to sing, it's an insult to how good he was to say that he was "on form". It pains me to say it but there's no way his voice is strong enough to carry a full song at the moment.

Meat was awesome! He has had his back issues and that will take time but he looked awesome and he was awesome!! He looked great.. He was smiling, joined in to sing...
What more could I want to see but his happiness! Whether he tours or not is up to him. He is happy to be acting and doing so in his current roll!
What an amazing moment that was to see him in the Toronto launch!
Meat looked so happy - I am happy for him. x

I agree :) In fact not to would seem to me rather like kicking him in the teeth. He was looking great, was great, was happy and having fun .. and the last is what it's all about :D :cheer::cheer::cheer:

Can we just...not.
Can we just appreciate for a minute that for 30 or so minutes (plus the Social.CA interview) Meat looked better and more importantly) happier than he has in a long time?

I agree he is looking better/happier. Just don't see the need to blindly agree as seems to be the case on here that he always sounds amazing.

He wasn't really there to sound amazing. I'm not even sure he intended to be on mic in the background of Dead Ringer. I think what everyone is expressing is that given his recent health problems it was nice to see him out there enjoying the moment of a new generation of a vision he has embodied for someplace close to 50 years. It was about the moment to me.
He wasn't really there to sound amazing.
Indeed, which incidentally not one single person said. Meat has pointed out that he sings with his whole body. After his first upper back surgery he was unable to sing for months, but he fought back and gave one final tour in the US. Not cancelling that when he had subsequently slipped a disc resulted in surgery which left him in even more pain and an even bigger fight back.
What some of us have been expressing is our delight to see him looking confident, happy, and able to join in and give us a brief and wonderful reminder of what we have loved for years. When watching that performance in Toronto I heard his voice before I saw he was there at the side of the stage .. it was unmistakable! For a moment I wondered what was happening .. I knew that voice, but it was not one I associated with Andrew or any other cast member. Then I saw! It was Meat :-) To me, like so many others, it WAS exciting, wonderful, and yes, amazing.
It was for many of us a very special moment. And to see him, so thoroughly happy at passing on the mantle of, in your words, a vision he has embodied for so many decades was for us something to celebrate, with joy rather than critique. It embodied Meat's great generosity of spirit as well as performance. I loved both, smiled at both, and was happy to see him demonstrating both again. Exciting, wonder-filled, and amazing .. just as he has been for close to 40 years flying the Bat on stage. To celebrate this is nothing less than he deserves :D

Yep Meat definitely looked the best he's looked in public for a while so that's great to see.
Meat is probably a victim of his own success....the punishing tours and the punishing schedules over the years.
One bit of advice for Meat....sack the hair stylist. The hair looks best black not ginger!

I've been noticing tinges of red lately too. I think it suits him as he gets older...

Well how wrong was I??? Meat performed live! He looked like he was having a ball singing backups in Dead Ringer. The voice is ravaged. It's really sad to hear. Even though when I saw him in last year in London he did an oooo right next to me which went through my soul. The most beautiful vibrato it was like birdsong.
I really don't think that there will be any more tours, back bad or not. There's a vocal chord problem somewhere. Maybe it's a bad surgery? We'll probably never know the real reason. But Meat can still act and is still getting roles so maybe we'll get his King Lear? But no more albums and no more live performances. Although I'd love it if he could give us Climaxes and Conclusions and one last tour!
ps. Meat's hair is brown. Not black or red. WTFlip?

Yes .. the only time I've seen it black was for that movie a while back in which he played a priest. Certainly not ginger .. although lighting and the colour tones of photos can give light brown hair a reddish tone. The photo on the right gives an accurate picture of his skin tone and eye colour. His hair is brown with distinguished silver fox at the temples ;)

He said again this week that it's the back pain that prevents him singing at the strength he wants rather than a problem with his vocal chords. I believe him.
It was great to see Meat out and about, enjoying himself.
I think hes health issues have been talked to death really, and the main thing is he is keeping fit. I think any notions of singing again, nevermind a tour are very far fetched indeed. Hes given 40 years to hes trade, he owes nothing more imo.
Im glad he is resting now and moving back into acting, because lets face it Meat the singer and live performer are done folks.

I agree about the vocals, yes im sure he could still shake a tree with one of those big notes no doubt, but the touring days are over, still we will get a few more songs from him in the future, im 100% certain
