Well, that's what happens when your website's design is mildly updated, but still somehow looks like the most sophisticated the Internet had to offer circa 1997. I wouldn't doubt there's a lot of that under the hood too.

It's probably made to look like a website from the same year when Steinman and Meat were physically in a studio together for the last time.

Definitely some type of issue as it is randomly down. Either moving servers or an unreliable DNS or so.

Spoke last night with someone on their web team (for that group actually exists) and was told: "The forum is some custom thing Jim liked, a million years ago. He got that same guy in to build him a forum. I am really not a fan of his code. It's the kind of code that looks like it's a bomb made entirely out of tripwires. And the server admin was supposed to secure the site with SSL months ago, and I'm still waiting for that."

When I asked if there was any chance of an upgrade, I got: "There are so many different good solutions for forums these days. So many! But no, the site is sticking with the one it has. [...] the brief I got was that the site needs to retain its basic look and structure. The idea is still that of the site being a building of many different rooms to explore."

I'll never understand why Meat Loaf never had a better website. He could have done so much with it.

It's always been used by record companies as a marketing tool for each album it seems rather than it being a website about Meat. Even when they had sign up / memberships these only seemed to last as long as an album / tour cycle. Really annoying.

Bruce Springsteen used to have a good site but it seems even album song listing and lyrics have been removed. Bizarre when that was complete for ages. It is still a better example though.

It's probably too late to do anything with Meat's site now.
Shame.
