I know there is a Very Best of and quite a few unofficial greatest hits albums on the market but wouldn't a Meat Loaf Box set be a great addition to your collection?
Maybe a 4cd box set featuring unreleased material, rare tracks, b-sides and unheard Live tracks recorded from over the years.

I think Meat and his record company should maybe think about releasing something like this as it would be a great seller and the fans would love it.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what they would like to see on such a collection?

Storytellers would have been a great DVD/CD box set if they packaged it over here and released it as a box set, but i dont see it happening since most of us have imported from Amazon. Perhaps the latest Mexico concert that was recorded could be made into a box set. A CD, DVD, Poster etc etc.

I remember an interview years ago (around Bat2/WTTN) that was on ITV at late night. It was a Meat programme and he said he would love to release a 3cd album. Even if it wasn't a new album, id love to see some rare live tracks, and unreleased material if theres some out there we still havent got. Personally though, LiveDisc in my opinion would make me a very happy fan with regards release of Meats live stuff!

I too would like to see a boxset containing all the B-sides, properly remastered, and more stuff like that... but I bet that if it happens, it will be after Bat III is in the can and Meat 'retires' from the music scene... my €0.02

I have to agree with Evil, and say that this would probably only happen after Bat III, and long after Meat has 'retired'.

I'd love to see all his songs collected into a boxed set...but to be honest...it's a long way off. Lets get CHSIB and Bat III first. :D

Well, it is a great idea... but think that it will take a long time before that happens. But hopefully in the near future.

I don't think that live versions would be on it, cause there are many bootlegs. More rare stuff.. that would be cool.

Maybe bsides like "RPM" or "Take A Number".... and versions of Meat signing Steinman classic songs not yet done.... I always think that Meat had s lot od material... starting with "Popcorn Bilzard" and the tracks with Stoney or Ted Nugent ( I have both records)....

I would love to see a BOX SET 4CD. That would be really awesome!! Of all the B sides and other recordings Meat has done!! I would definetly buy one. But, I hope its after CHSIB and BAT3 that would, be just incredible!!
I wonder what Fireball, thinks of this idea? And some tracks on the 4CD thing, Meat could share his opinions on his albums. And of course Steinman, could make a comment of many too. Maybe, a little feature, one of those discs, being a DVD. Ooo, think of the possiblities!! :D :o :P :!: . Yea, that would be amazing!!!!!!!

Look poeple.
Meat has survived on live versions of songs since Bat2. EVERY f!cking single has had no b-side and 2 live tracks. He even throws "Bat" live (like we've never heard THAT before) on the ALBUM to try to boost the sales. Meat, stop living in the past. OK, you did Bat, but he don't need to hear t EVERY time you do something new.

Meat has no bsides anymore. I'm pretty sure the 2 b-sides from CHSIB were originally intended to be on the album until somebody built up the courage to tell Meat that they're shite songs anyway (opinion).

ChrisNI, that program was "Planet Rock Profiles" with Dave Fanning. That "3/4 CD Boxset" ended up being Live Around Thae World, half of which we'd all heard before anyway.

Don't worry you little heads, if there's money to be made from Meat, the record company will make it...

That's MY two cents...

The words... 'F*ck off you little prick' spring to mind.

If you don't like it, then don't buy it. It's quite simple actually. Or are you too retarded to understand that? Dick!

The chances of B-Sides and Live/Rare stuff happening if not very likely. So many different record companies and whoever else will own the publishing right to the songs (As we've seen with the some 15+ mixed meat loaf albums which he has nothing really to do with). It would take a lot of work to get it all together and done, maybe too much work.

I thought the idea of bringing out an album was to 'boost sales', or have things changed that much in the 20 years I've been alive???

I think the t*sser above me will see he is wrong. As with most people, the singles mainly consist of other album tracks for their 2nd and 3rd tracks. The two new single had tracks that were cut from the album, it could so easily been Do It or any of the others that were cut.

And you can NEVER hear enough versions of Bat, or any other song in fact, live.

I close in saying, you sir, are a w*nker!

Of course it would take alot of work. Isn't that what record companies/artsts do? WORK. Something worthwhile to put on an album that takes a year to make is a hell of alot better than live versions of Bat or a mediocre effort just for the sake in releasing something.

Indeed it would, whichever company released the material would have to contact everyone who owns the publishing rights to it for permission and would have to pay them too.

From what I know, this is what virgin had to do to release the only Official 'Very best of' CD in 98/99 and it took them a lot of time, effort and money to get the major songs off the likes of epic and Arista also BGM i believe. Thankfully Bat 2 and Welcome were also on the Virgin label so that cut time down load.

I just think it would be too much for one record company to think its worth bothereing with. Digging up all the live, rare and early stuff. I mean, this could cover everything from the 60's musicals (which there are mp3's about) to the recent B-Side stuff + covers of 'I Love Rock n Roll' and other liver tour covers.

I agree completely, it would be amazingly smart if it happened. But I think all the lost tresures will remain just that, lost.

Oh don't worry, I started doing that a long time ago.

I thought the idea of bringing out an album was to 'boost sales'

Yes, I'm quite aware of that. However, putting a live version of a song, for which you are most famous for singing, on the end of a new album seems to me to undermine any confidence that Meat had with this album.

I think the t*sser above me will see he is wrong.

Then I'm afraid you have too much confidence...

I also find it very hypocritial for Meat to start bitching "Hey, this is a new album! Stop talking about BatIII when I'm promoting this album!" ...and then sticking "Bat" on the end.
Well I say: "Hey Meat, this is a new album! Stop talking about Bat to boost sales!"

Before you all start on me about Meat-bashing, I like Meat. But just because I do, it doesn't mean that I have to agree with everything he says or does...

Sinecure.

I still totally disagree...

With what you are saying, it's almost the same as 'why bother making it a special edition?' or 'why bother with a bonus CD?'. They are there to attract people to buy the album. Is that not a good thing?

Metallica are now giving away a Special Edition DVD with their album, do you see fans moaning about that?

I do though, apologise for my little outburst.

Metalica aren't giving away a free DVD that has been available countless times before. Plus their new DVD is actually about their new album (the making of it, and the tracks being played live).
Fine, make special edition, but there has to be something 'special' about it.

I fail to see where you can make such a comparision.

And thank you for apologising :)

the fans do moan about how much that album s*cks. St. Anger will be the first Metallica album that's not in my collection.

I think its also a case of what type of fan you are. If you are an honest fan like some people on this board that can see the absolute ridicolous farce thats going on with eg: The tour, the album etc then you (I) are going to be critical of a lack of effort made on the artists/managements part to satisfy fans. If your the type of fan who just sits back and thinks everything is ever so jolly and can't see past their own noses, and thinks that Meat can walk on water, cure the sick, etc.. then theres going to be problems.

Kev

I agree, ST. Anger is shit. Not liked anything since re:load...

Hmmm, maybe it wasn't the best comparision really, just trying to point out other artist add things to the CD's to help them sell more.

Personally, I would, and will continue to by Meat stuff no matter what is on the CD's or how shit people think it is.

I agree with sinecure. Leave the past to the past. Bat was great, but the new material needs to be put in the front. I say, if you want the old tracks, buy the old albums. Simple.

11 Sep 2003, 19:06
ouch!! :?
There seems to be an awfull lot of hostility going on here about a hypothetical box set. I love the new album, but I still like to hear different live treatments of older material--Bat contains some of my favorite songs of all-time, I enjoy hearing Meat do it live.

I can see past the end of my nose, and I certainly don't beleive Meat can walk on water, but I DO enjoy his music (older or new) more than any other I can name, and having a box set would mean that I might have more of it in my collection. If I didn't see anything listed that I was looking for, then I wouldn't buy it.

I'm sorry guys, but I don't think this discussion warrants such anger...
I think it's a fairly simple decision to buy something or not, why get angry about a hypothetical release? Why get angry about the way a record company boosts or doesn't boost sales? The tracks are listed on the back, nobody is trying to trick you, so if you don't like something...don't buy it, right?

That's just my two cents on the matter.

I hope that this day finds you all healthy and happy :)

Well said Little Dancer - I started this topic to find out what sort of thing people would like to see on a box set and what people thought to the idea of a box set with rarities being released.

The reason that got me thinking about a box set was that I noticed another band that I quite like had released one and there was some great tracks on it - this got me thinking about how great a Meat Loaf Boxset would be for his fans - I didn't mean for people to get angry over such a topic.

I know that Meat has been on a number of record labels and such an item would be hard to put together, I also know that some people may be tired of old tracks in Live formats being released as B-sides, and lets face it the Boxset does not exist but what tracks ect would be good on one should one ever be on the market?

A few ideas if copyright and technical issues were not a problem--yes that's dreaming, but that's okay!! These are just some random thoughts that don't include the classics for the most part...

For Crying Out Loud (live) :D
Meat as Dr. Scott doing planet/schmanet (he did it on stage and it's avail. 'cause I've heard a very funny snippet.)
More Than You Deserve w/monologue (Meat as Rabbit LIVE)
Dance in My pants
Somebody loves Me (from the Gershwyn stuff)
Popcorn Blizzard??? (was any of it ever recorded)
River Deep, Mountain High
Duet w/ Axl Rose (don't know if this really exists, but somebody swore to me that it does)

well, just a few random thoughts.

For me, it would have to be an all-inclusive final box-set thing. Mandatory items would include all tidbits not yet (properly) released on cd:

Popcorn Blizzard: Once Upon a Time/Hello (does exist, at least in my collection it does)
Stoney and Meat Loaf
More Than You Deserve 1974/Presence of the lord
Bat Overture
Lost Love
Modern Girl freeway mix
Take a Number / Take a Number extended version
RPM
Car Trouble (hearts on fire)
Thrashin' (from the movie)

other non album b-sides and theater bits would be nice too, as well as some live stuff what isn't done too much (who needs another live Bat or Paradise?) like FCOL, A Kiss..., Excecution Day, I'll Kill You... etc.
And on a afterthough... what about the original "Blind Before I Stop (And I'll Be Damned If Let Frank Farian Near My Records Again [And Likewise Screwing It Up By Adding Stuff And Throwing The Tracks Around])" edition?

edit: Little Dancer... afaik the Axl Rose/Meat duet from "Jesus Christ Superstar" (as I've seen it around on p2p-stuff) is just Alice Cooper. Or I'm always dl'ing the wrong file. Most likely it's fake tho'.

Just curious, I've head bit of Once Upon a Time/Hello but do you know of any Other stuff from popcorn blizzard? It's impressive that you have it in your collection, however, I just have a snippit of it in a .wav file.

hmmm, I'd love some live "I'll kill you if you don't come back" action as well, I LOVE that song...and I only have the version from Dead Ringer For Love....

AFAIK, there are only 2 Popcorn Blizard songs with Meat: Once Upon A Time and Hello.
I found them on the LP "Michigan Mixture vol. 2" some years ago in Utrecht, Holland.

This is more like it - some good ideas here - I especially like the idea of some Blind Before I Stop tracks without Frank Farian's silly dance beats.

Any more tracks that could be added? - what about a dvd?

I really think a box set of everything would be FANTASTIC!

I'd love to hear all the rare stuff properly mastered eg Dance In My Pants, his songs with Stoney, some Popcorn Blizzard, some new live versions of songs, some very old versions, some rare stuff.

In fact, I've often thought that Bat3 should be at least 2cds if it is going to be Meat's last - one with all new tracks, one with live versions of well known songs, and maybe one with really rare stuff too!

And why is Storytellers not available on CD or DVD here, except as region 1? I got the DVD, but to make it work in my front room I had to copy it on my computer, and then make a Video CD, which is not great!

Anyway, I REALLY want to hear Meat sing Dance In My Pants, becuase I love that song, and MBrevards clip was great!
