OK, what's the deal here? 3 friends and I are making a "Compressed Audio CD" (no not an MP3-CD, cause 2 people including me are using Ogg Vorvis (http://www.vorbis.com/) instead of MP3). The works? 4 people select 170MB of songs each, and it's collected and burned on 1 CD. This way you get a very mixed CD 'cause all musical tastes varry, and even in the personal selections, there is quite some spread in styles. This is my selection for the 2nd CD we're about to finish, and I wonder what your thoughts are on these songs. And yes, this is my final selection, so it won't change, even if you have better ideas. That's for CD 3 then :)

Last thing: yes I know there's no Meat, nor Jim in this selection. The 1 rule we had specifically stated that no band which was featured on CD1 was allowed to appear on CD2 :(. That excluded (amongst others) Meat, Jim, Pandora's Box, Nightwish, Metallica, Ayreon, Lana Lane, Iron Maiden, and some other bands I really love...

Aerosmith - Dream On
I've been long doubting between this one and "Dude Looks Like A Lady". When I heard Eminem butcher this in "Sing For The Moment" the decision was made.
Alice Cooper - Only Women Bleed (live)
Alice rules. This version (with Slash on guitar) does too.
Apocalyptica - Faraway
A piano ballad from Finland's very own cello-rockers.
Axel Lukkien - Eend
Dutch cabaret. Quite funny, and a parody on another well known dutch song.
Babylon Zoo - Spaceman
One hit wonder. From the Levi's ad. Never quite left the back of my mind.
Big Daddy - In The Jungle
Cover "Welcome To The Jungle" and do it "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"-style.
Black Sabbath - Heaven And Hell
Eat this Ozzy!
Blue Öyster Cult - (Don't Fear) The Reaper
I was planing not to include "the big hits". Needless to say, I failed.
Bonnie Tyler - Rebel Without A Clue
My favorite Bonnie song.
Bruce Dickinson - Tears of the Dragon
Iron Maiden's singer pulling it off solo. Quite well too...
Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road
IMO, his best.
Demons and Wizards - Fiddler on the Green
Acoustic powerballad about Death making a slip-up (oops!)
Doctor Butcher - Juice/The Chair
Mellow intro before all hell breaks loose.
Dream Theater - Pull Me Under
Prog-metal at its best.
Edvard Grieg - Concerto for Piano and Orchestra - 2nd Movement
Adagio, hence slow but beautiful.
Erik Norlander - Beware the Vampires
Hard rocking prog.
Evanescence - Whisper
My discovery of the year.
Joan Jett - I Love Rock And Roll
The anthem.
Kula Shaker - Hush
Their only memorable song, if ya ask me. Which you didn't. Shame on you!
Machinae Supremacy - Anthem Apocalyptica
Swedish metal with game-music influences. Available for download from their official site (http://www.machinaesupremacy.com/)
Mike Vogel - If It Ain't Broke (Break It)
Fell in love with it the first time I heard it. Lyrics are classic Steinman.
Rage - From The Cradle To The Grave
Full on metal with a full on orchestra. This is what S&M should have sounded like.
Richie Sambora - Father Time
Bon Jovi's guitarist beats Bon Jovi's singer solo.
Steve Barton - Die Unstillbare Gier
Strangly, the German version beat the English one...
Stiltskin - Inside
Another one hit wonder I never forgot.
Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger
And another one! It was either this or "The Final Countdown" as the '80s hardrock anthem selection.
The Cranberries - Ode To My Family
Beats Zombie by an inch.
The Simpsons - In-The-Garden-of-Eden
The previous album had Iron Butterfly's "In-a-gadda-da-vida". You guess why this is on here.
The Sisters Of Mercy - Under The Gun
The masters of electro goth.
Therapy - Diane
Cello rocks! Simply beautiful.
Therion - Arrival of the Darkest Queen / The Beauty in Black
Quite old and mellow Therion.

So what do you all think?

William
(my selection for the 1st CD will be up on my website when it's finished (hopefully next week))

I think that's a pretty excellent selection there.
Although Don't Fear The Reaper was a hit, it is a damn good song. That riff is one of my all time fav's, along with the hook from Are Friends Electric?.

Anyway, on the next CD I'd like to see The Smiths. Very ace if you ask me. . .and you can't beat Joy Division or the mighty Led Zep (I know they're pretty mainstream but still excellent bands). Oh, shove something off than new Mars Volta album.

Everyone: thanks for the replies.

As for the suggestions: I haven't heard anything by Blues Traveller (I suppose it's blues), Quicksilver or the Smiths. I could dig some up, and see if I like it. Joy Division does ring a bell... and it is somewhere in the final batch I received today...
As for Creed en LedZep, it's not really my thing. I'm currently more into the whole prog/goth/power metal/rock thing.

Afradi most of it isn't my taste so I wouldn't know although, The Coop's best version of Only Women Bleed has to be from the Brutal Planet tour.

And, How can anyone think that there is a better Bruce Springsteen song than Hungry Heart!!!!

Just my two pennies worth!!!!!!

Paradise city, patience or sweet child o' mine should make an appearance.

I put Estranged on the first CD, so any GN'R wasn't an option. The closest I could get was a hilarious cover of "Welcome To The Jungle". I'm now putting together my selection for #3 in the series, and some older GN'R is being considered at the moment.
