Hello, dear friends! Hope this finds all of you well.

I don't need to tell any of you that this is a very special time in the lives of Meat Loaf fans everywhere. Not only are we continuing to celebrate the release of CHSIB in more and more countries around the world, but we are nearing a very special date the end of this month. I'm referring, of course, to September 27th, Meat's birthday! :bunny:

Now, I know that we already have the MLUKFC card that FM has been organizing, winging its way around the world and we also have some great online birthday cards to participate in at other websites. But I thought that it might be fun to get something going right here--at the MLUKFC forum--not to take away from any of the other activities, but to ADD to this worldwide joyful celebration, as only we MLUKFC members and visitors can do!! And let's face it, friends. We are a breed unto ourselves. NO ONE does things exactly as we do, do they??!!!

I don't know about you. But I have strong feelings about birthdays, in general. I have always believed that birthdays are a time not only to honor a person, but to reflect upon what it means to have them in your life, what they add to your world, what they have given you.

Each of you may feel differently about this subject. As we have seen here in recent days, we all seem to have different opinions about nearly everything--even what it means to be a fan!! But that's all right. That's what brings richness and depth to the experience of being part of a forum like this one.

However, I think I can say with near certainty that one thing here is true for all of us: In some way and at some time during the past 25+ years, this special man has impacted on each of us. He has moved us in some magical way. He has touched our world, enriched our lives or lifted our spirits with the things he has done. And yes, that experience will be unique for each of us, but it is the common denominator which brings us all here to this forum and continues to bring us back day after day.

So, let's start something here. Beginning today, we're on a CountDown to B-day!! This is our chance here at MLUKFC to share a bit of what Meat means to us. This is our opportunity to "Testify," Meaty brothers and sisters!! Let the birthday spirit move us and see where it takes us!

This is what I've been envisioning for this Countdown thread, but keep in mind, it's only an outline. This thread can become anything YOU wish it to be.

How about sharing the story of how Meat came into your life? That would be perfect for a birthday celebration.

Perhaps something special or unusual happened to you while one of Meat's songs was playing?

Maybe you just have a favorite song of his that you've connected with in some way and you'd like to tell him about that.

Has something memorable happened during one of his concerts or TV appearances which had some importance and stayed with you ever since then?

Maybe you just have a special birthday wish or greeting you'd like the chance to pass on to him. That would be great, too.

In this thread, there will also be some Meaty surprises coming along the way, so keep your eyes open for them. When one is celebrating the present and the future, it's always good to look back and examine how events in the past helped mold the person into what they have become.

So, you see, there are lots of ways in which all of us can join in the fun, if you wish to, and help Meat celebrate his upcoming natal day. And as I said, these are just a few ideas off the top of my head. I'm sure that you guys will come up with lots of better ones to do!! And I look forward to seeing them! And of course, feel free to comment on what others have posted here. This isn't meant to be a sterile thread, with just singular posts. But perhaps something someone else may write or share will trigger a memory or thought for you. Feel free to add them. Or if you have additional thoughts after your original post, feel free to add those, too. Remember, this birthday thread can be anything you want it to be.

Now, I do have a couple of small favors to ask before we get started:
[1] In lieu of the sad events here of the past couple of weeks, I would ask that each of us make a concerted effort to keep this one thread in the forum as positive as possible. It is dedicated directly to Meat and his birthday, so please try to fill it with as much love or enthusiasm or joy and happiness--whatever term feels comfortable for you--as you can. Remember that this is meant to be a celebration and let's try to keep things to that purpose, if we can, friends.

[2] This is meant to be a MLUKFC forum event. Please try to keep it based here, if you can. If you have friends or contact with other Meaty fans, feel free to let them know about this MLUKFC project and share the link TO THIS THREAD with them, so that they can come here to enjoy what everyone has added to it and perhaps, decide to participate in it, themselves.

I guess that's all that comes to mind. So, let's relax, kick our shoes off, open up the bubbly and get this party rolling, shall we?!!!!

It's CountDown to B-day and only:

EIGHT DAYS TO GO!!

Well, I'm going to kick off this thread by wishing Meat the Happiest and Healthiest of birthdays coming up. With current events, I am especially focusing on the HEALTHY part of that wish!!!!

I know I'll have more things to wish for him as the days go on, but for now, here's a little something to brighten your day and help get our celebration off to a good start. (http://www.conubic.com/real/bdaycountdown.html)

Hope you have a good time helping Meat celebrate his upcoming birthday by counting down the days. I'm sure, if he has the chance with his current busy schedule to stop by here, Fire Ball will get a kick out of seeing what each of you have added to it!

Take care, everyone!

Love to you all,
MB

 Great idea :D .
OK,i've told it enough times  ,but here it is again.....
How I discoverd Meat Loaf.
It was about 1989.I was about twelve years old.
I was just sitting round on the living room floor bored out of my skull,THEN,an advert came on TV.It was a Woolworths advert promoting their music department. There were a few clips of songs. There was this one guy dressed in a pin stripe buisness suit playing air guitar with his umberella and in the back ground this amazing voice screamed at me LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL I'LL BE GONE WHEN THE MORNIN' COMES.
I'd listened to some music and had a few songs I liked but i'd never really taken much notice of music. This just blew me away.I just sat there stunned and thought I've got to hear more of that sound.
Next time we were in the city centre I pestered my mum to buy me a meat Loaf tape with Bat Out Of Hell on it.We went to Woolworths and found a compilation with the live at Wembley 1987 version on it.
I listened to the rest of the songs and something just clicked 8) .
The rest as they say is history.

Thanks Meat for all the great music.
Thanks Woolies for the introduction

Hi MBrevard, What a way to open this topic with Meat singing the Rolling Stones Number Gimme Shelter from the Dortmund concert 1982, two for the price of one :D Absolutely Wonderful, this has to be the greatest live concert I have ever had the pleasure of watching.

Well if we're talking about dreams, in May of this year I was invited with hubby and son, to actually appear with Meat Loaf on the Graham Norton Show. What a days filming that turned out to be :D Meat as usual took over the show, and the production crew were left with 1 1/2 hours of filming to edit down to 40 minutes approximately. My dream came true when Meat climbed into that gorgeous bed and sang 2 out of 3 aint bad, up close and personal. I wasn't even aware that this was going to happen,
what a dream come true, it made an old girl so very, very happy, so I would say to you out there, never ever give up on your dreams, no matter how long they take to come true. Because its true that Rock and Roll Dreams come Through. For all the newbies an account of this exciting show can be found at General Messages - Rock and Roll Dreams do come Through - start at the very beginning and enjoy.

Another favourite of mine is Rock and Roll Dreams come Through, it holds such dear memories for me, the first time I heard it play I was driving around with my soon to be second husband, looking for a particular cafe under the arches in Clapham. At that moment in time, the words "I know you've been through the fires of hell, and you got the ashes to prove it" rang so true for me, six months earlier my first husband Colin had flown from this world to a better place, after so much suffering in this world. This record sums up the sadness, joy, hope and mixed up emotions I was feeling at the time. A big thank you to Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf for giving me a song that helped me through a very bleak time in my life, and gave me the courage to accept that life can go on.

As a final piece I would like to say that Meats music no matter where, is always with me

NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was you????? *kev is all obsessed now* WOW!!!

That has actually made my day. I was actually listing to the interview as i was reading your post Dottie... obsessive...

Anyway, a great topic...

My dad is a HUGE fan and has been to more shows all over the world than he can remember, even keeping ticket stubs to pove it. I think he saw his first show at 18 (1980 i think) and he's been to at least one show a year since then. The really gutting thing is he isn't too well at the moment and his knees are a bit knackered (he's only 41 but a big lad) and is in the process of getting that sorted, which means he will miss the last world tour shows.

Saying that, it took me a good 7 (1989) years of my life to get into Meat Loaf. Before that and before I knew much about music I never really listened to much music at all. It all seemed cheesey and, to be honest, poo. My mum was, and still is big into Elvis and my dad is too, so had to listen to this for a while. Which was alright I suppose. As I've grown older I grown to respect elvis and his music more.

Then around this time I found this Big Red vinal album cover in my dads collection with this huge bike coming up from the grown. Now my dads into all sorts of Rock and stuff but didn't to much about it as I was actually looking for a Black Sabbath one  .

I couldn't find it, so I stuck this one on, and listened and listend and erm... well listened. Record starts and I continue listening and then the first verse is over and then, without realising it had finished. Not just the song, the whole album. I'd just sat there for close to an hour just listening.

I turned round to see my dad just sitting and looking with a smile and said, 'come here lad, I'm going to tell you a story...'

And thats how my obsession, if you will, with Mr. Loaf and his music began.

I really don't think I can put into word what it means to me, it almost brings a tear to my eye, well it actually just did :(.

There is nothing more that means so much to me that isn't family related. I've not grown tired of listening to any of meat's material and love everything from the 60's stage show music up until the last album and EVERYTHING in between.

Theres just always something there whatever my mood. If I'm feeling really crap (i went through 2 years of pretty bad depression after my granddads death which included lots of silly things) and it always seemed that Meat, if a way, would be there and I could just hide away and listen. I know that probably seems a little ~~~~ed up to some people, but thats the way things are.

I've lost train of thought actually after that, sorry... one second :)

Reading the autobiography was a real eye opener. The story from my dad was about what had happened with meat from Bat up until 89 and the money and voice stuff. It was amazing.

And the film, it STILL brings a tear to my eye. The last part, the speach and then building into Anything For Love is just amazing. There were things I didn't like about the film, it was wrong in parts but still amazing. I think I might go watch it in a minute.

Is anyone still reading??? Sorry if it's a bit long :o)

I dunno how many people here know, but I'm a bit of a wrestler type person here in the UK and enter my fights in a long red robe and to Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad...

AND FINALLY (thank goodness I hear you all saying)

It will be a lifetime dream come true when I see Meat live in December. It will mean absoutely everything to me, and I'm sure I'll be a much happier person for it.

I think I'll go now.

I had just walked out of the house and got into a cab (I lived in Florida at the time) and had told my first husband (scumbag.......) that I was leaving him and returning to live in the UK, I was pregnant with my first son and 'Bat out of Hell' was playing on his radio and it semmed so apt that I have been a fan ever since.

I'll keep it short (right, Tim  )
I've been a fan since I heard Paradise by the Dashboard Light on Dutch television. Never stopped listening. There's a Meat-song for every mood I'm in. That's what I love most about it.

I'll be adding a worthwhile comment later, but I have to say a huge thank you to MB for posting a clip of ML singing Gimme Shelter, my second favorite Rolling Stones song (after Honkey Tonk Women)! Unfortunatley I'm on the crappy computers at work and I can't play it- I will absolutely be playing that when I get home!

My tone on my cell phone is actually "Gimme Shelter" (no ML tones available from my cell company! :( ) I'm always surprised at how many of the students that I work with have never heard of that classic song. It always gave me hope when I was single, cause as Mick says "love....it's just a kiss away."

Thanks MB

first heard meat in saudi arabia, my father worked their for
ARAMCO and one of the other workers were playing booh.
my poor dad was mithered sensless till he got me the tape.
the most memorable time listening to him,for me, would have
to be when i had a personal stereo and earphones on while i was
giving birth to my eldest daughter, for some reason i still cannot
listen to a couple of songs without cringing!
But needless to say she has been a fan for as long as she has
liked music.

I used to say that Paradise was my favorite Meat Loaf song because seeing him and Patti sing it on Storytellers was what got me hooked on him in the first place.

But now it's Couldn't Have Said It Better, because hearing it gives me a needed escape from reality. I guess you can call me a die-hard Meat Loaf fan .. I've been listening to the CD since it first came out in Germany, but I didn't realize how much it affected me until this week.

For those of you who don't know, my parents and I were devastated by a major flood at our family flag store this past Monday. Thankfully no one was hurt ... but the business has been in our family for over 40 years. At this point we don't know what's going to happen .. and can only take it one day at a time.

It's been an emotional roller coaster for me this week ..... and every time I close my eyes and listen to Couldn't Have Said It Better, it takes me back to how amazed I was when I saw Meat and Patti sing it live for the first time at the Mohegan Sun. I enjoyed two amazing concerts (Mohegan Sun and The Borgata) that week, and listening to that song will always help me remember that.

If you ever read this Meat ---- I know there are a lot of people worse off than I am, and my parents and I will get through this somehow. But I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart ... you will never know how much your music has meant to me and how it's helped me cope with reality right now.

Thank you Meat.
Love
Vicki

Wow, I finally got to watch the "Gimme Shelter" clip when I got home, and it literally gave me goosebumps! Amazing, I never thought I'd see ML crowdsurfing! Is that live performance available commercially or is it out of print?

My ML story: I first got into ML my senior year of high school 1986-1987. My first "real" boyfriend (who sadly turned out to be very, very, deeply, evil, deceitful and dangerous) loved BOOH and he introduced it to me. It was one of the first CD's I bought when I got a CD player. I was especially entralled with "Paradise", it was interesting to be such a fan of the song with the line "...we were doubly blessed/Cos we were barely seventeen/and we were barely dressed" when I was in fact seventeen. (I ain't fessing up to the barely dressed part!) I even got the DJ at my senior prom to play Paradise, I remember being very impressed that he would play it. Luckily, the evil boyfriend went away after two years but my love of ML stayed, and in fact got stronger over the years.

Hi again! How wonderful to come to the forum this evening and find all these beautiful stories about how Meat has affected lives and not only helped people through difficult times, but has made the good times even better!!!

Don't worry about the lengths of your posts in this particular thread, friends. Some stories take longer to tell than others. The importance here is to let Meat know how you feel. And so far, what you've done has been very moving!!!

I've always said that Meat has the best fans in the world. I think we're going to see a good example of that in the coming days here.

That was a pretty cool surprise MB :!:

I will gladly tell my story again of how I first heard Meat Loaf.
I was at the tender age of 7 the first time I heard Paradise. (That was in 1977 :!: ) I harassed my Mom constantly until she finally bought it for me. I have be in love with him ever since. I was pregnant with my daughter when Bat II came out. I played it all the time, so much that my husband threatened divorce if he heard it again!! After Tiara was born she was colic and one night, at my wits end, I put on Bat II and cranked it. Amazingly enough, my colicky daughter fell asleep to I'd Do Anything For Love. I was totally amazed. Night after night this worked until the colic was gone. Little did I realize that I created a monster!! She is now a big fan and her favorite songs are When The Rubber Meets The Road and You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth. The countdown is now on for CHSIB and she is now alot happier after hearing Meat announce on Canada AM that he will be touring Canada in April or May. That is a show that neither one of us will miss!!

Maria,
That is very cool that your daughter is growing into quite the Meat fan! My son (7 in December) absolutely loves CHSIB, especially the title track. We listen to it literally every morning as I drive him to school. He knows every word, and he sings it at the top of his lungs, as he makes his little toy dogs dance like crazy. (Though it is a bit uncomfortable to hear a 6 year old sing with gusto "I'll take your body language/and hold it against you tonight." Hey at least he hasn't memorized "Did I Say That" yet- the "take you in the back seat now/and slowly drive you home" line could most assuredly get him into some serious troube at the private Southern Baptist school he goes to! ) Anyway, the point is that my love of Meat's music is even more special because I can share it with my son. I know that 20 years from now when I hear CHSIB I'll picture my first grade son in the back seat just beaming as he sings it- that'll be a great memory, no doubt. 8) (What a sap I am- just typing that sentence makes me tear up!)

I totally understand what you are saying Sherrie. 20 years from now I will remember Tiara singing "You can call her a slut. And you can call her a slave" (Which won't go over too well in her Catholic school either)
Meat's music has made a special bond between us and now Sherrie, you've made me start to cry too.

Roy's just reminded me (as if I should forget) on the day we got married, after the ceremony we went back to the house alone, got absolutely plastered listening to Meat Loaf, and Jim Steinman. That must have been a very good omen :)

No wonder Ellis our son was conceived to 2 Out Of 3 Ain't Bad.
Ellis alas :!: at a much younger age loved Meat Loaf and always came to concerts with us, but as he grown older, his tastes have varied slightly.

Happy Sunday, friends! Well, all your stories about your kids made me cry, too, and I don't have any--just 5 dogs, who are our babies!! And none of them, sadly, sing along with Meat's music, as I do. Maybe that's just as well....I can imagine the neighbors' reactions.

Gotta funny story to share today, as well as my next birthday wish for Meat. I'm writing this from Reno Nevada where my hubby and I are visiting, taking the weekend off to celebrate his birthday, which is on the 22nd.

So, we're in one particular casino and they have big screen TVs situated throughout the casino floor and they play music videos for part of the time--sports, some of it.

And we're enjoying the music. It's a nice mix of older and newer songs--most of which we're familiar with. When suddenly, we hear something very familiar and we look up at the screen closest to us---and it was MEAT--and Karla, doing Paradise!!! What an absolute treat to sit there with the hundreds of people in this casino and watch this video play!!!

So, I was thinking, wouldn't it be wonderful if, at some point in time, we were here and the CHSIB video would be playing!!!!!!!!! And so, my next wish for Meat, with the release of the album in just a few days, is, of course, much success with it here in the States and Canada!! I hope and pray that it will be everything you want it to be, Meat!! Can't wait to actually walk into a store and see it there on the shelves!!!!!! It's SO exciting!!

Well, it's that time of day...

It's CountDown to B-day and only:

Happy Birthday Meat Loaf!

Some beautiful stories on here, an excellent idea MBrevard!

I am 24 now (today! Happy Birthday to me too! ) and have been a fan of Meat Loaf since I was about 8, when my dad got a tape (Hits Out Of Hell) and played it in the car. Every car journey I went on with him since then I have asked him to play the tape, until it finally wore out. When I was about 13 mum and dad got me a ghetto blaster type thing for my room, and a new copy of that tape - I was so excited, I played the tape all the time!

Also around this time, Bat II was released, and I was absolutely astonished by it. I had never heard such brilliant, emotional, dramatic music before. What with IWDAFL being number one for about 10 weeks or so, I got plenty of chances to hear it, and most of my mates got hooked on it too!

Then, for my 18th birthday, mum and dad got me a proper hifi with a new fangled (ish) 5 cd player: needless to say, I bought 5 Meat Loaf cds ;)

Bat 1
Dead Ringer
Midnight...
Bad Attitude
Bat 2

The hifi played songs from all of them at random, and I was in heaven! Everybody else was in hell, due to the bassy rumble and deafening voices!

My favourite song of Meat's has to be I'm Gonna Love Her For Both Of Us, because I can imagine myself in the role of the singing character, rescuing a girl from some sadistic "boyfriend", and swearing I'll do everything he didn't, and nothing he did (if that makes sense :? :) ).

It brings a tear to my eye even now (if I'm not in public that is ).

Thankyou Meat Loaf (and Jim) for bringing such a beautiful piece of music into my life.

No one else comes close.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AND KEEP ON ROCKING!

Love you MB!!!
But more love I MEAT!!!! :P
And I hope from my heart he has a nice birthday!
Here is my personal b-celebrate:

Since ten years, to be exact since January 15th 1994, I’m an especially faithful MEAT LOAF fan. On that day he appeared on German TV show and sang “Anything”. As I saw him I only thought: “ WOW, what a man!” Till then “Anything” was the only song I knew of his. I liked it very much at that time. But all that happened after that surpassed all my experiences which I’d had till then. From that moment on, I wanted to know and possess everything, really everything on and about this fantastic guy. So I set out and bought CDs, magazines all that I could find on MEAT LOAF.

Then I came to know from the media that MEAT would be coming to Germany in April 1994. I was all at once electrified and naturally wanted now to see him live! Unfortunately, I could get hold of a ticket for only one concert in Bremen on April 14th. Waiting for the concert seemed sheer endless. So, I bridged the gap with MEAT LOAF music, and still more MEAT LOAF music. It was my first ever rock-concert and I must say it was just wonderful. Perhaps it was due to the artist on the stage that I found the concert so. Now I naturally wanted more of MEAT LOAF! Therefore, I was overjoyed to hear that he was going to give seven extra concerts in Germany. I bought tickets for three of the concerts.

In the months between the concerts I searched everyday in all TV channels, hoping to find something on MEAT LOAF. Since he was at that time staging his big comeback. So, all the channels were full of reports and clips on him. Thus, in one channel there was a competion where one could win a “meet and greet Meat Loaf” in Vancouver, Canada. Oh, yes, that was just what I wanted to win. As a result I sent a total of 60 postcards, each of those lovingly pasted with MEAT pictures. I was wretchedly sad as the results were made known because I hadn’t won.

However, my daughter, who wasn’t quite happy about my addiction to Meat since she didn’t get to hear any other music at my place, asked me a few days later, if I wanted to attend another concert in September in Munich. She said a school-friend had bought two tickets, but now he couldn’t go, and that he would sell the tickets for cheap. Of course, I wanted to attend the concert in Munich! The concert was supposed to be on September 13th 1994. It was going to be a day that I’d never forget! On that day I personally met my MEAT LOAF.

Together with my daughter I took the train in the morning from Muenster to Munich. We arrived there early in the afternoon. We drove immediately to the concert hall, because I wanted to post myself at the gates as early as possible, so as to be one of the first to run in and take a place in the first row. The concert was to begin at 8 pm. We arrived there at the gates at 4 p m. Only three girls stood at the entrance. I was very happy because it really looked that I was going to get a place in the first row. Due to that reason I was in high spirits, but also very excited. Even the non stop rain on that day didn’t perturb me. The mood at the entrance was very good, as later more and more fans turned up. We laughed and joked, and were all very excited.

Suddenly, maybe at 6 pm, we saw a TV crew armed with cameras and mikes turning the corner and making their way right up to us. I thought “wonderful that the TV is here. Then I can see the concert a second time on TV later on!” All at once the crew was standing before us and one of the reporters asked me if I wanted to participate in a TV report: “fan goes to MEAT LOAF-concert” and go with them into the hall. “No”, I said, “I don’t want to give up my position here, because I want a place in the first row!” The reporter laughed and said, if I’d go with them, I’d be one of the first fan in the hall. So, my daughter and me, we went with them. Together with the TV team we walked through the big, till then deserted hall, and through endless floors. All the while they interviewed me non stop: since when was I a fan, why was I such an ardent fan, what all had I collected on Meat Loaf, whether I’d posters of him pinned to the walls, and so on so forth. I was quite unfriendly with them because time was running and the moment was nearing when the hall doors would open. I was worrying, would I then get a place in the first row, before it was filled by the others, who were till now standing outside? Suddenly the reporter opened a door in the cellar of the building and shoved us into a small room, where I was supposed to sit on a couch and wait. Before I could get over this surprise the reporter disclosed a secret. He said that it wasn’t just coincidence that he’d approached me. He said, he was from a surprise show which ran regularly on TV. They’d heard from my daughter that I wanted to meet Meat Loaf personally and that he, Meat Loaf, would come in that room in a few minutes!

Oh! I can tell you folks, in that moment I thought the floor would open up and I’d disappear therein. My blood rushed to my heart and I began to sweat badly. Fortunately, I didn’t even have the time to faint because right at that moment the door opened and in walked Meat Loaf. Oh! my God, it was true, it was really true. The great and wonderful Meat Loaf in person stepped in, came up to me, shook my hand, and asked me, if everything were okay. Due to my excitement I forgot all my broken, school English. I could only stammer my name. Then he pulled out the regular CD “Midnight”, the only one which I didn’t possess till then, autographed it and gave it to me. WOW, it was really happening, I was sitting, thigh to thigh, with my dream man.

He joked, said that he actually had little time, since the concert was going to begin on the stage upstairs. He grumbled about the CD which he presented me. At that time of course, I didn’t know much about him like I do today. So, I was surprised that he didn’t like the CD. We sat there about 15 l o n g minutes together on the couch. I can tell you, it was the most beautiful 15 minutes of my life, apart from some other few private moments. While he continued talking I adored him sideways. Once I got up all my courage together and stroked his lovely long mane. He grinned very amused and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I thought I was going to pass out because of the heavenly bliss. And, just imagine, I was also allowed to kiss him. As a reward the sex God kissed me on the other cheek. But, as is well known, even the best moments pass quickly. So, Meat also had to go. He stood up, gave me a hand, wished me all the best, lots of fun and turned away. I saw his back and could only stammer back: “God bless you”. I just about ran after him. But, I floated 35 cm above the earth and wasn’t able to walk for a while.

Afterwards I attended the great concert together with my daughter and the TV crew. All the time I had the feeling that the maestro was singing only for me. Thus, even that highlight and together with it a great and exciting day came to an end.

Later on, I learned from my daughter that she hadn’t written to the TV, but that the station had approached her. The channel was impressed by the number of postcards sent in by me. And, because I hadn’t won the competition they wanted to make it possible for me in a different way to meet my idol Meat Loaf personally.

In the meantime I’ve attended altogether approximately 65 concerts of Meat Loaf in Germany, Netherlands, England and the USA, and I have met him a further ten times. But that first meeting would forever remain in my heart and in my memory. Coming October and November I’ll be visiting eleven more concerts in Germany and the UK.

I know no other person who possesses such a magical attraction and charisma like Meat Loaf. As an artist he is absolutely bombastic and unique and as a human being I found him to be very, very friendly, polite, funny and loving.

No matter what life has in store for me, I’ll remain a Meat Loaf fan forever, because I love him and I wish him all the very best for his birthday and for the rest of his life!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEAT!
GOD BLESS YOU FOREVER!

Eva,

Thanks for your great story- I was really smiling as I read it, I looked quite silly I would imagine. Now this is what you have to tell me- how have you managed to meet ML an additional 10 times? I think I need some lessons from you, as I have never been able to secure a pass for a meet and greet. Please do tell....

Hi, dear friends! Forgive my late update. Today was a travel day for us. We are now back home and trying to unpack and say hi to all our dogs and see that my parents were well taken care of....Good to be home and yet, hard to be home, if you can understand.

I haven't had the chance yet to read all that's been posted here since yesterday, but I'm looking forward to it!! Thanks for continuing to make this thread such a special one on Meat's behalf!!

I have a quickie story to share with all of you and then I'll post my surprise of the day. (I'm SO glad you're enjoying them. Maria, everything I am putting up is just part of my ML collection. Happy to be sharing it!)

You all remember the casino story I told a day or two ago. Well, Meat was everywhere up there in Reno (or so it felt).

Today, before leaving, we went to this one large casino, the Hilton. We hadn't been there in years and years and wanted to see how it had changed. The place is HUGE--they have a complete bowling center, as well as a cinema and shops--well, you name it, it's probably there.

So, we were walking around and happened past the movie theatre. We stopped to see what was playing there--The Salton Sea!!! I knew it was going to be a good day.

Then, I treated my hubby to one of the "water massages" for his birthday. Have you seen those machines yet? They seem to be all the rage right now over here. Anyway, I'm sitting and waiting out on the casino floor for his 15 minute massage to be over with. There were bells ringing, people shouting, laughing, there were the walkie-talkies of the change people screeching barely intelligeable instructions. And through the cacophony of the casino floor, I heard something familiar. I strained to focus my hearing on it. And I heard...

I would do anything for love,
I'll never lie to you and that’s a fact....

Anything for Love was playing on the casino background sound system! I couldn't believe it!! Meat truly was everywhere we went this trip!! I was a happy camper!!! :D

Anyway, nice to be back with you on my old computer (and keyboard). I'm looking forward very much to spending this coming week with all of you, celebrating the birthday to come!! It should be a lot of fun!!! :bunny:

And so now.....

It's back to CountDown to B-day and only:

FIVE DAYS TO GO!!

I think you are all going to enjoy today's surprise!!! (http://www.conubic.com/real/bdaycountdown.html) You have to go all the way back to 1987 for it!

Enjoy!!

I'm off to finish unpacking and settling back in, then I can't wait to come back to catch up on all of your posts!!

Take care. Let's keep this birthday thread alive and kicking through the 27th!!!

Love you all,

What a way to wake up, this morning! :D Great video, feel like we are receiving gifts for Meat's upcoming birthday. Fantastic!!!
My grandfather (who raised me) always said on his birthday 'what do you want for My birthday'! This reminds me of that...

Now, what do I have to give for Meat's upcoming birthday? Not much, I am afraid...never been a collector. Have only discovered ML about 3 years ago, was listening to the BeeGees and lionel Richie before (and still am sometimes). So, there aren't many stories, yet.
Eva, Loved reading yours!!!

Last years Hyde park-concert was my first full ML-show. I didn't have acces to the internet at that time. So, people at work were checking some sites for me early July. I had 3 days off in July and Wanted to see a ML-show during that period. I am a single/working mom, so it's not that easy to just 'go'. It Had to be in that period. I didn't know there WAS a concert, but I had been wanting to go to one for 1,5 years and was willing to go Anywhere, by then.

I heard there was a concert at Hyde park, tickets had been on sale for months...the night before I left for London, I checked the ticket-service again (had already managed to get a 12th row ticket, not bad, but wanted better) there was a 7th row ticket. Ofcourse I bought that one too, was convinced I would get to the front row. And I did, security-personel asked their boss if this Dutch lady could walk to the front and Stay there during the show, because she kept asking this over and over again!

Anyway, this first concert will stay with me forever! It was a little scary to go to London by myself. But I ran into lots of nice people and had a fantastic stay there.

If you folow your instincts and Heart, the most amazing things do happen in life!

When I finally did get cable, I found out another Dutch woman had also been to that concert. She took the train 1 hours before I did. And she only lives 40 mins. from my house! We went to the Amsterdam promo-concert together (now THAT was great too!). I consider her to be a good friend and we meet eachother regulary, Marianne...very happy I met you!

Ofcourse it would have been fantastic IF I would have known the people from this site at that time...but I didn't.
This only makes me look forward to the Nov/Dec shows More! :bunny:

Hope I didn't bore you too much!

"Happy camper", glad you are back home safely. Happy Birthday to your husband!!!

Thank you, once again. I feel this is a great place!

@sherrie and shadow

I am glad that you like my little story.

I am a member of the British and the American fan-club....
I managed to get meet and greets 1996, 1999 and 2001 because of both memberships and by visiting many concerts. I also went to a meet and greet in Amsterdam this year (that was the meet and greet that was requested by Fire Ball) and I have been lucky enough to meet Meat at stage exits, on the tour bus and at TV productions.

Every meeting with him was a highlight! :P

Happy Birthday Meat!!!!! :D

Great idea MBrevard!
The first Meat Loaf song I ever heard was, two out of three aint bad. I was 12 yrs. old, sitting at the computer, typing away some assignment, and my parents were watching the news. Well, this little bit came on about a singer named 'Meat Loaf' who was doing a new album called bat out of Hell II, well all of a sudden I heard this amazing voice and I spun around to see this gorgeous, big guy with long hair singing his heart out!! (they were showing the old promo. video for BatI)Needless to say I had a crush on Meat throughout all of high school (my nickname was Loaf, people STILL call me that if they haven't seen me since high school)

My first Meat Loaf concert was in 1993, following the release of Bat Out Of Hell II, I waited for 4 hrs. in the dead-cold of Canadian February in an impractical (ok, REDICULOUS) outfit and high heeled boots (well I was 13, I HAD to look HOT in case he saw me  ) I was in the front row for that show, and was blown away by how incredible he was live, SUCH PASSION!!

At this time, I was going to a high school for the fine arts and was taking dance, unfortunately, I was also diagnosed with severe idiopathic Hypothyroidism and was having a difficult time keeping my weight as low as it needed to be to stay in the dance program, Meat's music was my haven during several years of anorexia, My mother having surgery for a brain tumor, and living in a hospital teaching mom to walk again for the first year of high school (she's fine now, GOD BLESS!!) and BELEIVE me 'If you hold on to a chorus, you CAN get through the night' If it wasn't for that voice, well, it's better not to think about the negatives.

When I was 16, I choreographed a work to 'Lost Boys and Golden Girls' that earned the highest mark possible from my dance program. I also received a meet and greet pass, and had him autograph the grade report I got for that assignment. I stuttered the whole time, but managed to stammer out what a big fan I was, and how much his music brightened my days.

Well, years passed, and I had almost resigned myself to the fact that I just did not have the body to be a dancer, and would have to JUST choreograph, I had a ballet teacher who didn't care about body types at the time, and she gave me the lead in a production of Swan Lake we were doing, because she felt I was the best, and didn't care that I was heavier than most of the other girls. (I was 5'2 and 120lbs, which isn't HEAVY but it is for dance) Well I heard that Meat's Storytellers tour was coming to Toronto, so I got good seats and went to see the show. Well, I had my hand waving around to ask a question, and low and behold--I was picked...

"Hi, um, Meat?"

"Hi there, what's your name."

"oh, um, my name's Leah"

"Hi Leah, what do you do?"

"Well, I'm trying to be a dancer but, uh..."

"you're a dancer, really!!! I love ballet, do you know Swan Lake? Just ask Pearl, I always listen to that record and dance around the house"

( I should point out here that Meat Loaf was the first person IN MY LIFE who didn't say "really?!! you don't LOOK like a dancer" )

"Swan Lake? Yeah, I'm actually doing a production of it right now, we just finished "lac des Cygnes"

"Oh my god, really? Well I can't pass this up!! Come up on stage, you be the Swan and I'll be the lake, ok?"

So I went up on stage and danced a portion of Lac des Cygnes with Meat Loaf--then we chatted for a few minutes about Stanislavsky and Sanford Meisner, and I said..

"well, I better let you get on with the show, thanks very much."

and he said...

"I loved dancin' with you darlin'"

Well, that was it. I stopped starving myself, I started running every day, meticulously watching what I eat, and have gotten down to 100lbs, without starving. Everyday when I run, I listen to Meat's music, and he gets me through the five miles at 5am, Everyday. (My endocrinologist swears he doesn't know of any patient with a thyroid as bad as mine who weighs less than 200 lbs.) Now I'm dancing proffessionaly...AND working in Cancer research (my university degree was in dance performance AND Kineisiology/Human Anatomy

Meat taught me,
the underdog can win
you always have to give 200%

The music is what really inspires me, I think Meat has one of the greatest voices of all time, he REFUSED to let the critics keep him down.. Now, I won't let them keep me down either.

Thank you Meat for your music, gifts, kindness, and more inspiration than you'll ever know.
Happy Birthday, all the best to you and your family!!

Love,
Leah

I feel a bit daft, and embarassed, opening up to everyone like this, but somehow I'm comfortable with you all :)

I wish I had some form of story to tell but unfortunetly I don't.

Leah,

Your story gave me chills, thank you so much for sharing it! That is most assuredly something that you will never forget- what a great "gift" that Meat gave you. I also have hypothyroidism, so I absolutely know what sort of struggle is involved in keeping your weight that low. I have not been that successful, but my chosen career is librarianship so fortunately it is not an issue. You must replay that night of dancing with Meat so often in your mind- I know I would! What a good guy.

I finally got home to a decent computer so I could watch the clip- thanks MB, it was very cool! Am I right that the bass player was John Entwisle of The Who and the guitarist was Andy Summers from the Police? I didn't recognise any other luminaries in the band, but I bet there were some there. It was good to see a 1987 clip, since I have been accused of being overly nostalgic about that era. (I graduated from high school in 1987, and I still don't think fashion, music and big hair will ever be better than they were in 87!) :P I'm looking forward to more surprises in the coming days, and to hearing some more of these great stories that fans have been posting. I can't imagine a better birthday gift for ML then to tell him here how he has made a difference in so many people's lives.

Hi! Happy Tuesday to y'all! Hope you are well and Life's being good to you!!

I finally had the chance to relax and sit down and thoroughly read all the amazing comments and stories that have been posted here so far. Whoa!! I'm exhausted!! You guys made me laugh; you made me cry!! My mind is whirling! Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to share these things with all of us!

Just a few comments, although I wish I could address each message individually:

Vicki, I'm SO sorry to hear about what happened to your family's business!! And to have it happen so close to the holidays... I can only begin to imagine how utterly devastating this has been--after building something with love and hard work for over 40 years!!!! I know there's little comfort in knowing that at least no one was hurt. But I hope and pray that you all will find the courage and the strength to either rebuild or find a way to move forward in your lives!!!

TRex2000--HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY!! Hope you had a great day Sunday--just the start to a wonderful year ahead!!! Many, many more happy ones to you!!

And an early Happy BDay to Danny! Seems like there's a LOT of this going around right now.

To JCM: I have no specific suggestions to offer you, but to just use your own imagination. And whatever you choose to do, I know it will be very special!! Can't wait to see it!! :D

To everyone else who has added things so far--too many now to name you all--thank you for not only sharing your Meaty stories with us, but a bit of yourselves, as well. Like Leah said, it's a bit scary to open oneself up to people you've never met, other than in words on pages like these. But knowing we have at least one thing in common should, I hope, make it a little easier.

I've been thinking today about this thread, this board, the upcoming release of CHSIB today in the US and Canada, Meat's birthday....

You know, friends, the Internet has become such a part of our lives, and the world has become so interconnected that it's easy to forget what an absolute miracle it is that we are all here together like this. I mean, we all come from such different walks of life, from different countries; we are of different ages, different ethnicities, different professions...And yet, here we come, day after day, to be with one another, to learn more, see more, hear more about the man whose life and career draws us here....

And yes, I know that because of these differences, sometimes problems arise. We don't always agree with another. We may see things differently, have a different approach to doing things or saying things and we may feel quite strongly about them...and yet, as one wise person said to me recently (thank you, M. ), one doesn't always see eye-to-eye with the members in one's own family. One doesn't always get along with everyone in them. But no matter what, they are still family just as we are all part of Meat's extended family!

And so, with the near-simultaneous events of the North American release of CHSIB and Meat's Birthday coming up in a few days, it feels as though now is the right time for everyone to put aside their personal feelings, whatever they are, to put the differences aside, put away the egos, the personality conflicts, and place the emphasis, the concentration, the focus where it belongs--on honoring this man on his special day, as he deserves to be honored, wherever and however we choose to do it.

With the future always so uncertain, who knows if we will have the good fortune to be here next year to celebrate with one another, to enjoy each others' company, as we can right now, at this moment in time!

There is so much to be grateful for, isn't there?!!!

I have gotten a few messages from people saying that they feel bad that they don't have any stories to share and they don't know what to say. That's all right, friends. Don't worry. You don't have to share stories unless you want to. Anything you wish to say or do for this birthday celebration in the thread will be fine! Even if you just want to wish Meat a "Happy Happy," in your own way, I promise you that it will be meaningful and special to him--to all of us--because it comes from you and from your heart--and because we ARE all family here!!

So, don't be afraid to jump in and join the pre-party festivities!! Okay?

I also hope that you'll be able to come here on the day, itself. I, for one, have several things planned throughout the day. And that would be, obviously, a wonderful time to add your thoughts and best wishes and anything else you wish to do on this birthday thread for Meat!!

Anyway, those were just a few thoughts for love and peace which I wanted to share today...Hope that's all right.

But now....

It's back to CountDown to B-day and only:

FOUR DAYS TO GO!!

Are you all ready for today's surprise, (http://www.conubic.com/real/bdaycountdown.html) as we continue to look back on Meat's life?

Hope you enjoy it!!

Take good care. And thanks again for continuing to make this thread a very special one for us all!!

Much love to you,

Found this poem in a 1986 copy of The Neverland Express -

Written by Ruth Roberts M/No. 430

'FEELINGS'

First heard his voice in a crowded place,
Knew not his name nor his face,
And all the world around me faded,
As into my life he invaded.

His voice it blew my mind,
A stronger drug I've yet to find.
I was addicted and needed more,
More, to fill me to the core.

He comes to me in the dead of night,
I hear his vocals but cannot fight
This awesome power that takes its toll,
Over my body, my heart, and my soul.

Then I knew what I had to do,
Tread the paths of the chosen few.
From today and into tomorrow,
He will lead and I will follow.

So now I have a link with others,
Fathers, Mothers, Sisters, Brothers,
And even though he's miles away,
I now feel his presence near each day.

He could a mere mortal take over me.
He's not a god, so why do we
Crave more, more and more I say,
For the voice of MARVIN LEE ADAY.

I can honestly say, Meat's music has been the soundtrack to my life.

I was about 11 or so when i first heard about Meat, through my big brother, who's a massive Meat fan, making me watch The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I TOTALLY fell in love with Meat then - or Eddie, his persona in RHPS - he was everything i wanted in a bloke, a biker, longish hair and larger than life :P . It was then that i told myself i'd end up marrying a guy like that.....(OK, i was wrong...but hey...there's still time!!!)

The first time i ever listened to BOOH album, i was doing some housework for my sister, and found a tape and just stuck it in the player, not knowing what was on it, and when i found out it was Meat, was just completely blown away. I thought it was fantastic, and ended up 'borrowing' the tape of my sister. From then on i played it ALL the time.

When i was pregnant with my boys, i played the Dead Ringer album everyday, and i used to put the speaker headphones on my bump, so the boys would get a taste of things to come. When i went into labour i took that album and BOOH with me to the hospital, and when the boys were born BOOH was playing. It was one of the most emotional experiences of my life, and Meat was there to share it with me.

I really hope Meat has a fantastic birthday, and he gets everything his heart desires. I hope the coming year brings him joy and health and happiness. And i hope Meat remembers that he is only as old as the person he is feeling!!!!!

Much Love to Meat,

Heat

I don't have any particular stories to tell but the following may bring a smile to your face.
the other day I was gardening and my neighbour's 4 year old was 'helping' me. When we finished she came into my house for a drink and she asked dme to 'play the music that she really likes.' This happens to be CHSIB cd and her favourite is the title track. I played this over and over again as we boogied round the lounge for 45 minutes, then she went home. The following day her mother asked me what music I had been playing and I said Meat Loaf - why? She said her daughter stood in the middle of the kitchen with her hands on her hips, shaking her bum and shouting "You can keep your mouth shut cos it doesn't really matter right now". She asked her what she was singing and she replied "It's Anne's music by err um Mince Pie. Bless

Right now, can't think of anymore stories, either...Just don't have anymore, I think.
Thank you, Kitty kat, this Did bring a big smile to my face (the children Are the future)!

We were all 'drawn' here because of ML. Think it's time 'to celebrate' that fact!...And to just have 'one BIG party' here, in the days to come!
MB, now have I told you...Yes, I have

The release of CHSIB is doing great! YES! We are 'celebrating' Meat's upcoming birthday!...Who cares, What year it was, that's just 'a number'. The important part is, he IS Here!

Just as an idea for celebrating-let's request CHSIB or 'did I say' that from our local stations on the 27th (maybe even mention to the DJ that it's fireball's birthday.)
That way, we can be enjoying our own little celebrations online, AND hear a bit of Meat's stuff on the radio AND do our little bit to ensure that the newly released CHSIB does well in Canada and the US.
waddya think guys?
Just to make it extra silly, let's all request it at say 2? Then we'll be inundating the radio shows all over the world at the same time, silly little inside joke for us all!!

Hi, friends!! Can't believe it's Wednesday already, can you?! The older I get, the faster the days seem to go!

Thanks for all the WONDERFUL responses today!! Loved all the stories and the poem!! :bunny:

And YES! Leah, I LOVE the idea for Saturday!! Don't know how many people will be around at any particular time since we come from all over the world, but it doesn't matter-- it would be a terrific Birthday present to be requesting CHSIB -- wherever people live. If the album's been released in their country, then as Maria (and Meat  ) says, Just Do It!!! Great idea!! And if the album has yet to be released, then request another Meaty song!! Let the radio world know "WE WANT MEAT!!!"

Glad everyone is continuing to enjoy the b-day surprises for the day. I'm having a lot of fun going through everything here and picking out things for y'all.

I've been working on my 'birthday post' for Meat, but it's coming very slowly. Did you ever have something that you wanted/needed to write/say, and you KNOW how you want it to be, but it just doesn't come out right? "And I struggle with words but they put up a fight"... It's a little like pulling teeth--it comes a little bit at a time....very frustrating. So, I apologize for not having my story up here yet. It's coming, but it's nowhere near ready to share....soon, I hope, though. Time is getting short!!

But for now, speaking of 'time being short':

It's back to CountDown to B-day and only:

THREE DAYS TO GO!!

I have something very rare for everyone today!! (Feleena, are you out here??? I think YOU're going to enjoy this one!!! )

Hope you all like today's surprise!! (http://www.conubic.com/real/bdaycountdown.html)

Keep those birthday responses coming in!! :bunny:

Lots of love to everyone,

MB, truer words were never spoken (typed?)! I was writing the card I told you about via PM yesterday and I could scarcely put a coherent sentence together. How frustrating! Hopefully I ended up making a bit of sense, as it is in the mailbox now.

Ow, another day of waiting to get off work so I can view the countdown surprise- these darn computers at work are so old and raggedy that they won't play them! Still, it does give me quite a treat in the evening. 8)

Wishing a good day to every one!

Wow, that is also the first time that I have seen that video. Do you know what year it was released? I love all the different costumes in it, especially the first scene with the cute little ponytail and (most of all) the bits with the tuxedo. That tux is just a preview of an Academy Awards ceremony not far in the future- I bet there's a supporting actor award in Meat's future, Oscar would like good sitting next to the Grammy. 8) 8)

Hi! Happy Thursday to everyone.

Thanks Plukie, Maria and Sherrie. No, sorry, I don't have a specific date on the clip, Sherrie. But the song was on the Bad Attitude album, so we must be talking about 1984 or so. It is an interesting music video, though.

Been a fairly quiet day in 'birthday town' today, but that's okay. Perhaps, it's the quiet before the storm, as they say.

Had a pretty good day here. Went to our local K-Mart, where they had three copies of CHSIB on the shelves. Don't know how many they had to begin with. But two of them were on an end cap, so I have hopes that there were lots of others in the same location to begin with. It's on sale right now--normally $14.99--this week: $11.99. A real bargain at any price, if you ask me!!! :D

Anyway, it still feels incredible to walk into a store and see it there on the shelves. We've all waited such a long time for this!!! It's a great feeling!! This, in and of itself, is a wonderful early birthday present for Meat, isn't it?!!

Also received a notice in my email from VH-1, who is apparently pushing the CD as well. That was good to see. If y'all want to go by Meat's section of their website, you can rate the album from 1 to 5. When I voted, it was currently at 5.0!!

Well, that time again, friends:

It's CountDown to B-day and only:

TWO DAYS TO GO!!

I will leave you with my Meaty birthday surprise of the day. (http://www.conubic.com/real/bdaycountdown.html)

Continued good wishes to all of you! Have a great day and hope you will continue to add your birthday thoughts and wishes to this thread as the days go on!!

Lots of love,

Hi everyone!

Am listening to todays surprise, absolutely beautiful, Thank you!

It must be an amazing feeling, yes, to just see copies of CHSIB, finally.
I agree, a bargain at Any price.

I didn't even know there was a VH1 website  , found it and also voted (I think), hope I didn't have to register first. It was still at 5.0 (ofcourse!)

I am just wondering, since sales seem to be going really well also, based on Amazon. When will we know anything about the charts?

Will be here Saturday, but it will still be Friday in the US, strange thing, time!
Anyway, think it's a wonderful idea to call/mail stations all over the world.
Leah, when you say 'at 2', you mean in the afternoon, right?
Did everyone find the radio-locator at CHSIB-promo? Very helpful!
This will be So much fun! :bunny:

'See' you all later!

Absolutely Mariella :)

I noticed the same lack of copies as MB at 2 of my local Kmart stores 8O
... but they started out with a lot on hand at both Best Buy and Borders, which means that they're expecting to sell a lot of copies :D

Since I posted my first message on the birthday countdown, we've had some great news about the store. It's going to take time, but we're rebuilding and will be opening again soon :)

But re-reading my message right now I realized I forgot to wish Meat a Happy Birthday

So Happy Birthday Meat !!
Enjoy your special day with the ones you care about the most.

May you achieve all the success you truly deserve for the wonderful CD and music you have given us ... and may you always stay Forever Young !!

I haven’t got any real stories. I have loved Meat since I was little. I used to steal my dad’s tapes and one day I was looking for something new…found this tape of Bat Out Of Hell. I loved the cover so I borrowed it (put it this way, I now have the album on CD and my dad still hasn’t gotten his copy back). I was hooked from the start, I couldn’t get over the power and passion of this guy, whatever kind of song he was singing.
I’ve had a bad few years lately and music has helped me through it, it’s an escape. Meat is the BEST singer and the greatest guy ever…and if Meat wasn’t around then I wouldn’t have met people on here and I wouldn’t have some of the great friends that I have now.
Bad things are getting better this year, better than they have been for years. I’m having the time of my life. And Meat’s music is as good as ever.
Happy Birthday Meat!
:D :D :D

Some really great stories here and MB all the surpises are wonderful, thanks for sharing all.

I've no stories to tell, have liked Meat's music for a while now though only really got into it in the last year or so, and because of that now have some really great friends that I will be forever thankful for.

So really just want to thank the big man for everything and wish him all the best.

Happy birthday Meat!!!
Hope you have a great time :D

Hi, friends. Well, we're getting down to the wire now, aren't we! :bunny:

Thanks, everyone, for the great responses today. Eyeore, since you feel that way, you're certainly in the right place! Vicki, WONDERFUL news about the store. I hope and pray it all works out for you and your parents!! Testify--so nice to see you here and I, too, LOVE the new avatar!! Mariella, Cathie, Jen, Maria--thank you for helping to make this thread a special one for Meat and for us all. (I have no idea when to begin looking for CHSIB in the charts, but it's only been since Tuesday, so I would imagine it probably wouldn't be any earlier than this weekend or early next week, perhaps???)

Hope everyone will all be able to stop by on Meat's birthday to join in the fun and festivities!!

Well, today it's my turn to share some of my Meaty experiences and why I feel the way I do. And, of course, my birthday wishes. Sorry that it's taken me so long to put it all together. It was hard to put my feelings into words.

I apologize in advance because I know this post will be long. It is not a story I can tell in just a paragraph or two. So, for those of you who do not like long messages, please skip on down to the "surprise of the day," if you wish. I will not be insulted in the least! These are things I HAVE to say and I HAVE to say them THIS YEAR! (That will become clearer in a few minutes, I hope.)

I have to go back a bit, before I can move forward. So a little history: A few of you already know most of this. But many of you do not.

Those of you who have read some of my earlier posts, have heard me say that I have lived an insular life, fairly isolated, especially in the last several years.

The reason for this is that I am an Agoraphobic and have been for most, if not all, of my life, as my mother was before me. For those of you who have not heard that term, I suffer from an extreme form of Panic Disorder (they also refer to it as "Social Anxiety" these days).

Growing up was rough--on many counts--but on this subject, no one ever told me what I had. I just grew up being incredibly shy and aloof, feeling alone and a bit freakish, I suppose. A lot of kids grow up that way for various reasons. So, I know that some of you will understand what I'm trying to say here. We can even look at Meat and what he went through in his childhood! Life is not easy for a child who is 'different' in some way...

I don't know if you've ever seen any movies, read any books or known anyone in your lives who have had this problem where it reached a point where they could not leave their home, because of overwhelming fear. They become what is referred to as "housebound."

Well, friends, I have been housebound many times over the years. This last time, it went on so long that I actually believed I was never going to leave my home again. I was just going to live and die there. And that was it. I was in my house without leaving for EIGHT LONG YEARS!! This is not something I normally discuss in a public forum. I do talk about it privately, sometimes. But, it's never easy to admit all this.

And I realize that it's probably hard for most of you to imagine this kind of life. And that's okay. Maybe it's better that way. This is the way my life is and I have always tried to make the best of it.

But, even after giving up hope of ever leaving, after all those years, I did manage, somehow, to fight my way out of my house. I reached a point where I could, with the help of some medication, both natural and prescriptive, once again, go into some stores--do some shopping for my family, so that I didn't feel totally useless in this world. : roll : It was still an incredibly limited life--I couldn't go too far from my home and I couldn't do very much, but at least there were times when I was out...

I have come to the conclusion over the years, that being an Agoraphobic is a little like being an Alcoholic, in that it is something you have to fight every single day of your life. Some days are just a little easier than others. But it is a constant struggle. If you have fears of your own that you have fought in the past, then perhaps, you can imagine what it is like having to do that every single time you are about to walk out your front door. It's not an easy life. Certainly not one I would wish on anyone else. But I fully realize there are a lot of people who have it much worse than I because of things they are going through!!

Okay. So, that gives you a little background about myself. Now, Meat has come and gone from my life over the years, from the time he first got started. I would find him, then lose him for a while, then find him again.

Well, about 3 years ago or so, he magically came back into my life, along with all this glorious music--just at a time, as with many of you--when I needed them both desperately. I was going through a really bad patch, trying to fix up our home to sell it, so that we could get another home big enough to move my parents in with us to take care of them for the rest of their lives. And if something could go wrong, it did!! Between all of the problems with the fix-up and contemplating leaving the house I had been in for 25 years permanently, I'm sure that if I hadn't had Meat and the music in my life then, I would have either totally lost my mind or slit my wrists or something desperate. That, also, isn't easy to admit. But it's true. From the stories that have already been shared here, and all the others we have read throughout the net, I know that enough of you have had the same experience--that Meat and the songs have helped you through terrible times--and you will understand this.

And so, since that time, Meat has continued to be an important part of my life. The music played in my home every day. Every single day. It made life seem better--or at least, bearable.

I never believed I would ever get to see him perform live. He hadn't been to my area of the country since 1996. And I knew that even if he were to come here, because of the severity of my Panic Disorder, I probably couldn't go. So, I started collecting everything 'live' that I could get my hands on. That's where some of the items I have been sharing with you this week have come from. I had a 'need' to see him or hear him perform and this was the only way that I could find to fulfill that need.

Then, last year, I found out that he was going to be doing two concerts in Northern California. Neither of them was particularly close to where I live. The first one was 2 1/2 hours from my home and the second was about 4 1/2 hours away--farther than I had been in more years than I cared to think about.

But I wanted--no, NEEDED--desperately to see him, if there was any way that I could. And so, I took a deep, deep breath and we bought tickets to both events.

I didn't know if I could do this. I didn't know, if, on the day, I would even be able to walk out my front door. And even if I did manage to make it to the venue, I didn't know if I'd be able to stay. I didn't know if I would be able to tolerate the excitement, the noises, the crush of people. And I could just picture myself, in the middle of the concert, getting a Panic Attack and running, screaming down the aisle--"Let me outta here!!!" (People with this problem think strangely. Sorry. It goes along with the personality, I'm sorry to say. ) But I was SO scared, friends!! And yet, I wanted it so badly....

Anyway, I'd better move this story along or I'll never get to where I want to go. It had been 20 years or more since I had been to ANY concert of any kind. But with the help of medication to keep me calm, and Meat's music, playing on the car's stereo system, I DID make it to both concerts!! And what glorious experiences they were! I couldn't believe I was there and Meat was up on stage singing his heart out and the band was so wonderful... These are moments that I will hold close to my heart forever!!!! I know you all will understand that and feel the same way about the ML concerts YOU have experienced in the past!!

And so, afterwards, we came back home. I was SO proud for having accomplished this much. It was truly a HUGE step for me. And for a while, I felt a bit better about my life, and then, gradually, life went back to the way it had been.Thank heavens for this forum and you wonderful people here whom I've been fortunate enough to have met and gotten to know in the past year. You've helped to make a 'limited' life much more bearable, in having people one has something in common with to talk to!

But I was Meat-hungry after that. I wanted to see him again and prayed that he'd be coming back my way. I know I'm not saying anything here that each of you doesn't already understand. You can't just see Meat once or twice and have that be enough! You want to see him again!!!!!!!!!!! It's like my collecting the audios and videos--you can't just listen or watch ONE of them. You need to hear or see them ALL!!!!! Right??

And so, you can imagine my delight, when I saw that he was coming back to both the venues I had been to the year before. I had the confidence, since I had already been there, that I could get there again. But in addition, there were 6 other California/Nevada concerts that were possibilities, if I could gather up enough courage to try to get to them!

Of course, by this time, life had gotten more complicated with my parents now with us, plus our 5 dogs to look after. I'll tell ya, good parent-sitters are a LOT harder to find than good babysitters and many of you know how difficult THAT is!! So, it wasn't a matter of just picking up and going, even if I did decide to try.

Again, to move this belabored story along, we did get tickets for all 8 concerts. We made all the arrangements for the problems at home. And then, as you all know, a few days before the first concert was to happen, Meat went through his surgery. So, it and the next one in San Diego, were both cancelled, much to our sorrow--not only about missing the show, but also to hear what he had just gone through!!!

So, plans were put off again for a little while. We were left with 6 concerts, which were to fall in a 2 1/2 week period. And we made plans to be away for that entire time!! I can't even remember the last time I had been away from my house for so long! You see, this was quite an adventure--one that filled me with both excitement and terror.

The next concert was scheduled for Los Angeles. It had been 20 years or more since I had been that far into Southern California. It's about an 8-hour drive from my home. I had no idea if I could do this. The 4 1/2 hours to Kelseyville the year before had been enough of a challenge--to sit there and not scream...

But we did it! We made it there and went to the Universal Amphitheatre, where we thoroughly enjoyed both Cyndi and Meat and the band!

The next stop was Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. It had been 28 years since we had last been there and to be honest, I thought I'd never see that town again. That was a 5 or 6 hour drive from LA. And we made it.

It was a VERY long drive next from Vegas all the way up to Reno--about 9 or 10 hours up some backroads on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I guess it had been many years since the last time we had gone to Reno for a few days.

A day or two later, we were off to Kelseyville, a 3 or 4 hour drive. And I was looking forward to coming back to one of the venues where I had had such a good time the year before. We made it there, but sadly, as you read in a thread I posted at the time, the audience immediately around us was so horrible, that it interferred with our ability to enjoy the show. But still, we were there! In the second row center, so close to Meat we could see the sweat on his upper lip. 'Miracles' were happening to me every day!

And then, once again, we had the long trek down south, as the next show was to be in Lancaster, CA. That was a part of California neither of us had been through before, and it was a good 10-hour drive from Kelseyville, through the Tehachapie Mountains, past "The World's Largest Wind Farm". What a ride! Then, as you know, Meat had to cancel that show because he had throat problems. We quickly left Lancaster and headed for our final destination--Anaheim, to get ready for the next night's concert there. But, sadly, that show was also cancelled.

So, to try to cheer me up, since I was so sad about missing the last two concerts, as I had missed my first two, we spent the next couple of days at Disneyland, a place we had not been for well over 20 years. I had given up ever seeing that again, too! It wasn't like seeing Meat, of course, but we had some fun.

And then we came home. When we got back, we figured out that we had travelled nearly 2500 MILES--we couldn't believe it! We ended up going to more venues than Meat did!!

And you know, friends, this time, I did it without one bit of medication--just Meat's music playing in the car!! And that, plus the desire and need to see him, got me through the rough, uncomfortable moments in the car and to each of our destinations!!

And while we were there, I did things that I had not done in years. We went to a movie theatre. That may not sound like anything to you, but I had not been able to sit in one, without panicking for more years than I want to admit!! I went on rides at Disneyland. We went to an IMAX movie, where they 'strap' you into your seat so you can't fall out, something that would have been so confining and so terrifying for me before that I could never had done it. I went to places and did things that I thought I would NEVER do again!!

And since we've been back home, we have continued to be active, when we can, under our particular circumstances. We just got back from another short trip to Reno, for instance--again with no medication, just the music to keep us going.

How can I describe to you what that kind of freedom is like after so many years of being confined?? I can't. I feel alive again--sort of like coming back from the dead, if that makes sense. And that's as close as I can come.

I have no illusions. It's still a daily struggle. But each successful outing makes the next one a little easier, and that is a kind of freedom that is more precious than anything you can imagine.

I could cry a million tears that would overflow my computer and fall through your monitors and flood your rooms and still, it would not be enough to share the depth of my feelings here or my gratitude for a life that has been changed, I believe, for the better!

And how do I say thank-you to the man who has helped me so far along my path?? How do ANY of us say thanks for the things that have happened to us because Meat is a part of our lives??

He didn't set out to do any of these things, you know? This was not his purpose for performing or recording. And yet, time and time again, we hear about something magical happening to someone because of him.

So, I guess, if I ever had the chance to speak with Meat, when he was feeling down or discouraged about something, I would say to him with great certainty that the things he has done all these years--all the music and performing--as well as the acting and the films--leave him and go out into the world, where they do more good than he could possibly imagine!!!

And my wish, for his birthday, is one I have made before. It is actually my continuing wish for him: That the pleasure, the excitement, the joy and the laughter his talent creates in the world should come back to him and bless his life a thousandfold!!

Meat, if you're out there, then please know how very, very proud we are of you and what you have done so far in your life and in your career!! And we look forward to seeing what lies in your future, knowing that it also lies in ours.

Here's wishing you the very best of Birthdays. Much health and happiness to you now and always!!!

And a big thank-you to all of YOU who managed to make it through this long post. I hope you can understand now, why I HAD to say these things this year!! I feel like I've been reborn into a brand new world. And that's the kind of joy one needs to share with friends and thank those who helped to make it happen!!

But now, since you've all been so very patient with me today:

It's CountDown to B-day and only:

ONE DAY TO GO!!

I have something VERY special for you today and I'm so excited to share it with you. (http://www.conubic.com/real/bdaycountdown.html) Some of you will have already seen it, I know. There are some of you who have seen more than I can ever hope to!! But I think, even if that's the case, you'll enjoy seeing this again!!

Thank you again, friends. Please keep adding your Meaty stories and birthday wishes to the thread!! Meat's special day is nearly upon us!!

Take good care.

Love and peace to each and every one of you!

MB,

Thank you for telling your story here, I know (far too well) how difficult it must have been to lay that all "out in the open". Thanks for all the effort you have put into, both this thread, and your post here. I think this is such a great "birthday present" for Meat, I hope he does get a chance to read everything- there was a lot of love, admiration and thankfulness poured out in the last few days.

MB,

Where do I start? First I want to thank you for sharing all your surprises and most of all your story. Sherrie is right, it must of been extremely hard to "lay it all out in the open" and I must say that you have a courage that I probably could never posses. I was moved to tears reading your story but I was so impressed at the moxie you've shown to try and turn your life around. I am so happy for you, especially that you have been doing it without medication. It's amazing that Meat's music can touch so many people in so many different ways :!:
On that sappy note :D I want to thank you again and I wish you all the best :!:

Thank you MBrevard for taking the time and trouble to start this topic originally, thank you for opening up to all of us, I believe most of us have opened up one way and and another, at some time or another., on this forum

For you MBrevard -

Today I met a great new friend
Who knew me right away
It was funny how she understood
All I had to say

She listened to my problems
She listened to my dreams
We talked about love and life
She'd, been there, it seems

I never once felt judged by her
she seemed to just accept me
And all the problems I'd been dealt with

She didn't interrupt me
Or need to have her say
She just listened very patiently
And didn't go away

I wanted her to understand
How much this meant to me
But as I went to hug her
Something startled me

I put my arms in front of me
And went to pull her nearer

Thanks for sharing your life with us and an even bigger thank you for all you have done for Meats Birthday.

Oh, dear friends!! I don't even know what to say! Thank you SO much for all your words of love and encouragement both here and in private messages and emails!! I cannot begin to tell you what they mean to me! They made me cry--but happy tears. I don't think I've ever known such kindness on this particular subject before!! So, I will hold your thoughts close to my heart!

I feel like it's Meat's birthday and I'M the one getting the presents! :bunny:

Several of you have written that you know someone else who has this problem--not as severe as mine has been, but still... There are a LOT of people in this world who suffer from Panic in one form or another. Please tell them NOT to give up!! If I can come this far, after being isolated for such a long time, THEY, too, can fight their way out of this to a better life!! Just tell them NEVER to give up hope or to give up trying!!

I've been working much of the night on tomorrow's celebration. I was getting sleepy until I came back here and read your messages. Now, I'm jazzed again and probably good for a couple more hours of work. :p

I hope you'll all be able to come by sometime during the 'festivities' and join in the celebration! It wouldn't be the same without you!!

Thank you again so much! You all have a special place in my heart!!

Have a great day! See you at the 'party.'

With much love,

MB, thank you so much for sharing...you have a special place in my heart too.

Now, I can't wait for the party to begin! Because here in Europe Meat is about to become one year older. Strange thing, time.
Well, this will be a very Long september 27th! An extra-long and hopefully extra-special birthday!

As Europe heads into the midnight hour, it's time to switch from CountDown to

BIRTHDAY PARTY CENTRAL!!

Welcome to our day-long celebration in honor of the man who brings us all together here!! So, stop on by, when you can, and say 'Hi.' And be sure to leave your birthday messages and wishes for Meat and let him know that you're thinking of him on his special day!!

We've got a lot of surprises coming along the way. So, come on in, kick your shoes off and make yourselves to home. There's nothing like celebrating a birthday with friends!!

Why don't we start off by pulling back the rug and making some room for dancing. Birthday Party Surprise #1 (http://www.conubic.com/real/bdaycountdown2.html) is actually something I posted here a couple weeks ago. But it's such a GREAT way to start a party, I couldn't resist sharing it again!!

Let's get this party rolling!!!

Whoooooeeee!!

MB...

That took a lot of guts, to be so open and honest about your situation. I have great respect for that. I met a Dutch woman on the internet, suffering from the same thing. In Dutch, it's called "agora-fobie". Every day she struggles, forces herself to leave the house. It's goddamed hard...
For her, the internet is her lifeline, her way to keep in touch with people without having to leave her house.
Again: I have great respect for your courage.

Thanks, Guppie! And welcome to Meat's Birthday Party!!

You tell the woman to hang in there and keep fighting this thing!! I understand entirely about the Internet being a lifeline!! I was SO isolated, myself, before the Net! Even if you have a lot of friends, after a while, they slowly disappear because they don't understand what is happening to you and why you can't do this and you can't go there...

Now, look at all of us in this forum, for example--I would never have gotten to know some many wonderful Dutch people or German or British, Australian, New Zealanders....The web has truly made this a better world, I think, for a lot of us (even with the problems it also brings along).

Anyway, thank you and a continued thanks to all of you who are writing to me privately, as well!! It's been quite a day for me here and it certainly has helped to put ME in a party mood!! :D Hope it's the same for the rest of you!!

Love you all,

Yeah... I'm in the party-mood, let's have a cyberparty, he he he....

Friends don't disappear if you have problems. Even if they don't understand, at least they try to. Those are real friends. The ones that don't visit anymore, weren't real friends to begin with imho.

And indeed, internet makes your world larger. I too have met some wonderful people on i-net and managed to build friendships. They're different from RL-friendships, but not inferiour. Just as important, only the communication-medium is different. That's the only difference.

I'm glad people responded to your post, on the forum or through PM. You are a very well respected person on this forum, and I think it's good for you to hear people say that.
Take care now. (and don't get drunk partying tomorrow)

I just wanted to thank you for starting such a great thread and for being brave enough to share your story. i was so moved by what happened and am pleased that you are now doing so well.
Up until last year i didn't talk to anyone, but everyone is so nice on here, it's given me much more confidence. i would never have used forums and chatrooms then, but there is something about this place, don't you think?
I have such respect for people who can overcome something that is so hard and, in some cases, so misunderstood. It’s amazing how Meat’s music got you through, amazing how one person can touch all these people in so many different ways.

Guppie and Mariella--I don't know about my drinking during this. I think maybe I'd better be "Designated Driver" for the day! (Do you also have that in your country--where one person at a party doesn't drink so that they can drive everyone else home safely??)

Besides, friends, I have to admit I am an EASY drunk, I'm sorry to say. Half a glass of nearly anything and I start to get silly!

But then, it IS impolite to NOT toast our birthday boy, isn't it??!!

I think GMT is 5 hours ahead of the US Eastern Time Zone (so 2PM GMT is 9AM EST and 6AM Cali time) Perhaps thats a bit too early in the American west? Suggestions? Perhaps we could move it a bit later, even 5PM GMT would be Noon Eastern, 9AM Pacific? Opinions?

Here is how she intends to
stay "Forever Young".....
AND A BIT OF A HEROINE!!!

"I will stay forever young for
the rest of my life by one simple
word...meat loaf. No not the
food but the man himself. Listeneing
to his music has made me feel young,
and vibrant. This might sound way out
there but the other day I worked at a
national chain store in teh electronics
department. I had a customer grab a basket
and filled it up worth hundreds if electronics.
he then kicked open the fire door and ran out.
I ran after him like I never ran before and
got his license number. Cops pursued him
and he even tried to run cop cars out of
the way. A cop came back to me and said
"how did u ever manage to run so fast and
get his license number?"...I simply looked
at him and said , "just listen to meat loaf's
music and it will make you feel forever young."

CONGRATULATIONS, KIM!!

I'm here too, MB! I'm in the midst of catching up on these birthday surprises, listening to #3 right now. Thanks for the clip of Fryin' Pan- just a few days ago somone (Tbuck, I think) was commenting on the version of Fryin Pan on the current tour with the flame effects, and I was wishing I could see that. Well, apparently wishing makes it so, as I found when I clicked on birthday surprise #2! Lately I've been playing Frying Pan and It Just Won't Quit endlessly, so I really enjoyed that clip.

That clip reminded me of one more thing about Meat that is outstanding - the time, effort and expense that he puts into the occasional visual effect. I.E., the flames in Frying Pan, the blacklight and masks in Do It, the cool drums in Lemon and (perhaps most famously of all) Bobby the Bat. These are not cheap at all to do, and they really enhance the show. The only other acts that I can think of that excell at that are Pink Floyd (the kings of visual effects, almost to the level of sensory overload) and Garth Brooks. I saw GB a few years ago, and he had flame, rain- all sorts of cool effects. Those effects are not easy, and it is really cool that ML makes the effort to do them on occasion.

Sherrie

MBrevard
27 Sep 2003, 03:58
Hi, Sherrie! I was about to put up 'cricket sounds'! Glad you're here. And glad you've been enjoying the surprises.

The 'flame' effects this time around are not quite as spectacular as they have been in the past, as you see in the clip. But with all the problems with pyrotechnics and so on, this is probably a much better (and safer) way to go.

It is my great sadness never to have seen Bobby the Bat at a live show. It must have been amazing!!

Haven't been to many other peoples' concerts of late, as you know, but thinking back to the ones I have seen in the past, you're right. There isn't much put into the special effects. I have a strong feeling that Meat does it to add to the already theatrical atmosphere in his shows. This IS theatre to him, don't you think?

Another thing I wish I had seen was either the water splashing on John's drums or the "fire drum" effects we've read about. Those would have been fun to watch!!

Ah, all this talk is making me want to go see the clip again!! I LOVE watching this guy work!! :D

Hope you can hang in there with me for a while longer. I know it's 3 hours later your time!!

I'll be here a bit longer, but I fear I won't be able to pull an "all nighter", as much as I'd like to. I have a dreadfully boring training tomorrow (and next Saturday as well) from 8AM to 2:30PM so I really do need to catch some sleep. The title of the training is "creating academic independence through student owned strategies"- see, you're nodding off just reading the title, aren't you? Oh well, attending the two days of training gets me two extra days off at Thanksgiving so I suppose it's worth it!

What is the fire drum effect you are talking about? I liked the cool effect on Lemon for the Just Havin' Fun tour, with the glitter and lighting but I don't know what the fire drum effect is. (Also haven't heard about the water on John's drums- sounds very cool.)

I remember when I thought that the coolest effect possible was all the lights in the arena going out when Billy Joel sang "turn out the lights" in "You May be Right", but once I saw Pink Floyd I knew that amazing things were possible!

Sherrie

MBrevard
27 Sep 2003, 04:23
I understand, Sherrie! Don't worry. I'm usually here at night when no one else is around. I'm 9 hours earlier than UK time (right now, at least), so I'm always 'behind the times,' as they say. But that's okay. When it is quiet here, then I'll have the chance to work on a few more surprises. I'm still a little short for all the hours to be covered.

I'll be posting another one in a few minutes, though. I'll try to get it in before you head off to bed.

That class does NOT sound interesting. I'm sorry. But it IS worth having a couple more days off with your family during the holidays!!

As for the water and fire effects: I believe I read about them at the show in Holland. Perhaps, when Guppie or Mariella come back they can tell us more about them. But I think that at one point, Meat poured water over John's drums!! I would have loved to have seen that!

And the fire effects---I remember seeing pictures of something that looked like "sparks"--coming out of one of the drums, which Meat beat really hard. It was probably sparkly paper or something. Again, maybe someone will tell us more specifically about it. But it looked neat from the photos I saw at the time!!

And the fire effects---I remember seeing pictures of something that looked like "sparks"--coming out of one of the drums, which Meat beat really hard. It was probably sparkly paper or something. Again, maybe someone will tell us more specifically about it. But it looked neat from the photos I saw at the time!!

Didn't he do the drums with Lemon on the two "Just Havin' Fun..." shows that you went to? If I'm thinking of the same pictures I think you are mentioning, it's from that song. It was glitter of some sort that flew in the air and was illuminated by the lights when he beat the drum. Did he do this on Lemon when you saw him last year?

John and Joey are "camping" (sleeping in a tent on our back porch) tonight, and Joey is peeking over my shoulder as I read MLUKFC. (John is asleep, totally unaware that Joey is out of the tent at this late hour :P ) Anyway, as I am reading your posts Joey is trying to imitate your avatar- blinking one eye and sticking his tongue out. He thinks its pretty cool, but he's also up three hours past his bedtime so almost anything seems funny to him at this point.

Of course, I'll stick around for one more birthday surprise, then hopefully I can catch up on anything I miss tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks for all the cool schwag video and audio tonight!

Thank you MB for starting this wonderful thread and for all the surprises and the party :!: I just got here so I think that I missed out on some serious partying :D I should get you to host my Birthday :!:
I raise my Coke can to you all and wish Meat an extremely Happy Birthday as I listen to my CHSIB CD.

I don't remember any special effects from the drums during both the shows I saw last year. Perhaps that was something Meat added later on, as the tour evolved. You were in the last leg of the Friends tour, right? So, I bet that's what happened. I was in the first part. So, I missed it. :( Ah well, thank heavens for photos!! 8)

Does your hubby look after Joey when you go to these classes?

I was just thinking of all the other avatars out there--maybe it's a good thing he's just imitating mine!!! :!:

I posted another surprise a little while ago. Hope you got to see it. The next one might be beyond your bedtime limits, with the early class tomorrow and all. :(

Either way, you take good care and have a great class. We'll see you tomorrow--whenever you get here.

HI, Maria!! So nice to have you with us!! This is a 24-hour operation, so whenever you show up is just fine!! You won't have missed too much. Hope you'll also be around tomorrow when the 'rowdy' bunch comes back (are they going to hit me for that??!! )

The mention of coke got my hubby's ears--'er, eyes! That's all he drinks around here!!

Glad to hear you're enjoying CHSIB. I listen to it every single day!! I love it! Are you going to help us call in requests tomorrow, in honor of Meat's birthday?

Should be fun!

Maria,

I got here a bit late too, but you can just catch up on the videos and join us in celebrating Meat's special day.

I typed this once before and *poof* it all went away, so please forgive me if by chance it double posts everyone.

The SNL video was most assuredly worth waiting up for! I gather from the last still in the video that Tim Curry was the host of SNL that night. That must have been a great show! While Meat is the undeniable man, Tim Curry ain't too hard on the eyes either!

It's time to scurry off to bed for me, my little boy is still awake, over 3 1/2 hours after his bedtime- I must get off the computer and make sure he gets to sleep. Thanks again MB for the cool birthday surprises, I will catch up with you all tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks!! I hope you're right!

Go to Birthday Party Surprise #1, TRex2003. That IS Meat singing Dance in My Pants, from a concert done in Birmingham in 1988. (The women singing in it are the Goff sisters.)

I wish he'd sing that song live again! It's SO much fun, isn't it?!!

27 Sep 2003, 11:01
Ooooh, great idea!! What did you think of him singing Bad for Good--the clip I put up yesterday? I thought he did a terrific job on that one, as well!!

Do you think that It's All Coming Back to Me is more a woman's song than a man's?? Just curious. I've been 'round and 'round about that with my hubby! He thinks it is. I think it could also be sung by a man!!

Think it could also be sung by a man, don't see why not!
It would be a 'challenge' though because this song is so familiar to people, all over the world by Celine.
But I think that would make it 'extra' interesting, would love to hear Meat sing this one!

Hell yes, Meat can sing anything!!! 8)

Bad For Good sounded great too. My only problem is I have a crappy old 56k modem, which actually usually connects at around 45k, and the songs / videos tend to play at around 32k.

Therefore, the quality is not great.

I want broadband, I need broadband, but there ain't no way I'm ever gonna love 56k. Still, I'm not that sad, cause 2 out of 3 ain't bad!!!

Actually, I am pretty sad !! Ah well...

MBrevard
27 Sep 2003, 11:48
Hi, TRex2003! I agree! Meat CAN sing anything!!

Sorry to hear about the 56k. I had that same problem when we moved to our new house. And it was about a year and a half before we finally go cable in our area!! What a difference!! I hope you'll be able to switch sometime, soon, too!

I know the 56k clips aren't great, but they were the best I could do. I hope they're all right!!

I'm still getting over reading Meat's news. I think, more than ever, he needs to get a LOT of love from all of us today--so, I hope that everyone will continue to send their birthday messages and greetings to him all day long!! There's nothing like hearing from people who love you to make you feel better!!!

Two out of three was also the first Meat song I heard. Heard it playing in a friends car in the late 70s/ very early 80s. Didn't know who was singing but loved the voice. Had to hear more. Meats music has been in and out of my life ever since through good times and bad. His music has become like a well loved friend whos always there to make me feel happier.

Ah, Guppie! Snapple is kind of a fruity drink--supposedly, according to their advertisements, made from "the good things in life," meaning real fruits, etc. I don't know how true that is. But when my dad was diagnosed with diabetes last year, we had to get him off all the sugary drinks. And we switched him to a diet Snapple, which he likes and I started drinking it, myself!!

As for a piker, it's sort of slang word for someone who does things minimally. For instance, here you are with your 'Martini and ice cubes' and I'm drinking a fruity drink!!

Language is a funny thing, isn't it?!!

Party games, huh? I think I should have given this some thought BEFORE I was up for 20+ hours!!

Let's see. It has to be something with words--we're sort of limited here.

How about:

I wish Meat an absolutely ageless, advantageous, adrenalin-filled (does that count??) acknowledged birthday!!

Anyone want to take on the "B's"? (Actually, someone could probably do better than that with the A's!!) 8O

Or I'm open to other suggestions....

Hi! I'm back. Sorry for the delay.

Isn't it incredible hearing him sing that song?!! That was done, by the way, in Zurich in 1996.

Are all the German venues always standing?? Or just the ones that Meat performs at? Just curious...

What about the UK venues--are most of them seated or standing? Anyone know??

Most of ours are seated--at least, the ones out west. Can't speak for eastern concert halls.
