Oh hey, maybe it could be a 'tape tree' sort of thing -- some fans know i've got capabilities to convert to PAL (and vice versa), so i'd be happy to send out a copy or two to anyone overseas, if in fact Vicki gets lucky and gets someone to tape it for her :) !

Just thought id offer to help!

Take care!

My parents have DirectTV, but they live 1,200 miles away and I suspect they have no clue how to run their VCR (if it's even hooked up). I was supposed to hook up their VCR and DVD while I was there on vacation and I never got to it. Drat! I'll call them tonight and see if there is any chance of them taping it, and if so I'll let you all know. I work in a library with a tape duplicator, so if I can get it I can easily make copies. Lets keep our fingers crossed!

Hi, friends! Sorry for not responding to this thread sooner. My family and I have been down since Meat's B-day party, with a strange flu bug going around here. Hope you all manage to avoid it! It's pretty nasty.

First, thank you to Michael for noticing this concert was going to be on in October!!! I just got through watching the first showing of it and it's an absolutely amazing concert!! (If anyone needs to, PM me. And that's all I'd better say on this rather delicate subject. )

The concert lasted about an hour and 18 minutes. Here is the set list for the televised show (haven't looked up the original set for this concert in Mexico, so I'm not sure what has been left out):

Do it!
Life is a Lemon
Tear Me Down
Testify
Anything for Love
CHSIB
Paradise
Bat Out of Hell

No band intros and no Two Out of Three, which usually goes with that. So I'm not sure if they did it that particular night or not.

I don't know where to start. I want to compliment the people who put this together. It was beautifully shot, I thought. Lots of wonderful close-ups. And the sound was great (thank you, Kasim, for an excellent job, as always, on the mixing!!). You get a real feel for the excitement both onstage and off. It was a really receptive audience!!

Meat and the band were in great form. This is truly an amazing band!! I know you've all heard this again and again. But you really get to see it here. Everyone has a 'place' in this show. Everyone shines!!

Do it! was done with the glow-in-the-dark masks! Wonderfully strong version of Testify and CHSIB. Sometimes, Meat has Paradise taken out of the live shows he allows to be recorded, so I was SO happy to see that song in here--Meat's white sparkly jacket and Patti's blonde wig and all! :D

Right before the song began, Meat did something that he hadn't been doing in this tour, but it was a part of the Friends tour: He played with the audience--you know--the louder, softer...then competing with the band routine. It was nice to see this bit of interaction with the crowd. I had enjoyed it last year and sort of missed it this time around.

As many of you know, I was one of those who had the two concerts right before this one, cancelled--those in Lancaster and Anaheim! And of course, I have been grieving those losses, as well as the first two from the tour, as I know everyone has in this leg, who had shows either outright cancelled or postponed. But you know, friends, now I understand in my heart, why, at least these last two HAD to be lost.

Meat's voice is terrific here! With the damage his throat had suffered, he NEEDED to rest it on these days between Kelseyville and Mexico so that the recorded concert, something that all of us could treasure forever, would be as good as it turned out.

As sad as I am to have missed live shows, I am SO grateful and thankful for having this concert recorded!!! Forgive me. I can't find the words this morning to fully tell you what I feel and what's in my heart. But I know that every time I will watch this, it will bring back so many memories...

I had the good fortune just a day or two ago to see some of the other Mexican concert--the one held the very next night. And Meat's voice was fairly hoarse. He truly gave it all in the first one!!!

He had written me a while ago that he felt these concerts were not up to his standards. And I can see that now, perhaps, in the second show. But NOT this one!! It is glorious. What an incredible gift both he and the members of the band have given us, as a permanent remembrance of the Final World Tour!

And Meat, if you're out there and reading this, PLEASE consider doing the same sort of thing at one of the Australian concerts with the MSO!!! Please turn one of the shows into a DVD for all of us!!! We know that your concerts evolve within a tour. And after the next leg in Europe and the UK, this will surely be the case. PLEASE allow one of the shows in February to be filmed so that all of us can enjoy the next phase of the tour, as well as the uniqueness of having you and the band perform with a live symphony orchestra!!!!

Anyway, this is a quickie review of the DirecTV concert!! I hope that it makes its way to other Pay-Per-View venues throughout the world, so that everyone can see it!!

What a terrific way to let people know about the new album. DirecTV even pushed it in the promos they were showing right before the concert began!! So that should go a long way, I hope, in helping the sales for CHSIB here in the States!!!

I'll be back in a little bit with a few short "goodies" for y'all. But I wanted to let you know about the show as soon as I could. Hope I'm making sense. I'm still rather weak from this stupid flu and my brain just doesn't feel like it's working as well as I'd like it to!!

That's all I can think of for now. I'm still reeling from just how great this show was/is and feeling so very proud of Meat and every single member of the Neverland Express!!!

Thank you for giving us such an incredible gift--something we can enjoy in the years to come, again and again and again!!! :bunny:

If any of you reading this at the forum are able to subscribe to DirecTV, then go for it!! This concert, alone, is worth the 'price of admission!!

Love to all of you and STAY WELL!!!

Well we don't get Direct TV, but my 97 yo Grandma does. So I asked her if I could tape the Mexico City concert this afternoon. She said sure, and she would watch it. :o I said you might not like it...she said I want to see what has you so intrigued.

So I got the tape set and we spent some Meaty time together. Concert was very good. Had to leave in the middle to pick up our vehicle from the shop. No big deal, I'm taping it, right. Got back, and there she was still watching it!

Tried to talk over all the bad words in BOOH, soon gave that up, LOL, too
much work, I'd have to babble continually. Grandma's short review (from a 97 yo farmwife in rural IL)...he looks very serious...it must be fun to see all that...he really puts a lot of energy into it.

Well, do you think she set a record? Know of anyone else that old that has sat thru that much Meat? Never thought I'd see the day.

Still in shock,
T
PS Tape didn't come out, I did something wrong w/ the satellite set-up.
 Oh well, I'll try again.

Hi again!

Hey Sherrie! I know exactly what you mean! A lot of this concert gave me gooseflesh! But I think that, in my case, it was because it brought back so many memories of the concerts I had seen shortly before this one was done. It made me ache, inside, to watch it and remember--a good ache, I guess, but as always, when one watches Meat, it is never enough. One wants MORE!! (Sorry, Sherrie, I know you are still waiting for your turn and I KNOW it will come during the 4th leg of the tour!!)

Hey, Terry, you got my nearly 90-year-old parents beat!!! I'm going to put the concert on during their dinner tonight!! And since they already love to watch Meat, I know they're going to enjoy the show!! 97--that's pretty amazing!! I think you may have the record there!!

Sorry your taping didn't work you! But thankfully, there are a lot of other chances this month!!

Love to all,

Today, I did something I had wanted to do last week, but didn't have the chance to--I grabbed some photos from the video, knowing that some of you cannot see the clips. (They are not perfect, because when you take stills from video, everyone's always in motion--especially THIS group! --But I did the best I could to clean them up.)

Please remember that these are copyrighted to Meat and DirecTV and I'm posting them, once again, not only to share with those who cannot see this in any other way, but to encourage those who can, to subscribe and get the Pay-Per-View event right in their homes!!

Hey MB:

Thank you for posting the clips from the DirecTV concert. It is good to get a preview of what I will see when I get a video of the show.

Personally, I refuse to obtain any of the min-satellite units, and I know I am not alone in this. It is good that Meat allowed more live footage of his show, but he picked an outlet with an extremely limited viewership!

I know there is a trade tree starting of this PPV concert starting in "non-Meat" trading circles due to people wanting to see the show, but not wanting to be tied down to DirecTV.

Thank God for the modern technology of VCR recording so that many more people will get to see the show than the limited few who subscribe to DirecTV.

ROCK ON FIRE BALL!!!

MBrevard
06 Oct 2003, 15:47
Hello, David. You always love to stir the pot, don't you?! An interesting point of view and interesting place to voice it. I know you're certainly not alone in feeling the way you do.

But thankfully, there are 20+ million US families (perhaps more by now--that's the last figure I remember reading) who do subscribe to one satellite company or another (not all DirecTV). That certainly doesn't compare yet to cable, but it's not bad and it's growing every year.

Personally, satellite technology has been in my family (both the large and the smaller dishes) for 20 + years now and we couldn't/wouldn't do without them. Especially now, with my folks living with us. The small dish provides everything they need including our local channels, so they don't have to pay extra for cable.

So, this wasn't such a bad deal for Meat, considering that the lead time for getting something on one of the regular cable channels like HBO or Showtime is probably considerably longer than it was for DirecTV and obviously, Meat wanted to get this out around the time the album was due to be released here. So, it's good publicity for him and for the CD--no matter what.

What bothers me the most, David, is that it feels as though your vision of the issue, as you've presented it here, is just a little narrow-sighted. This concert is NOT totally copyrighted by DirecTV, but at the end of the program, it very clearly states it is owned by Meat Loaf and Southern Star Management (I'm not familiar with them).

We do not know if Meat has other plans for this show. Perhaps, he intends to sell it to other venues around the world. Perhaps, he may even have plans to release a DVD of it in the future. None of us know what else Meat had in mind for this concert.

So, it makes me sad to hear that these trading trees you talk about are going beyond the rather limited scope of this thread into non-Meat Loaf groups. Because they may, indeed, above and beyond the DirecTV issue, be taking money out of Meat's pocket at some point in the future--something he doesn't deserve, just because he chose a distributor, who could get the product out when he needed it out.

These are just my quick thoughts after reading your post. I'm sure there are lots of sides to this question. But in my mind, it's probably not a good thing to be advertising, and probably not the best place to be discussing this, as I'm sure you'll agree, with Meat visiting here more regularly again. :( None of us want to see him hurt or upset by any of this.

It was my understanding that this was meant to be a thread celebrating a long-awaited live concert having been filmed and shared with his fans! :bunny:

Love,
MB

Dave
06 Oct 2003, 16:12
Sorry to have offended you with my post, but there is absolutely NO positive for people in the area of the country where I live to subscribe to any of these satellite operations. See, we live in the "hilly mountains" and it makes it nearly impossible for us to get "normal television" around here. With the FCC regulations that make it illegal for DirecTV and the others to provide us with our local station affiliates, it makes having DirecTV quite the impossibility.

Further, I am on broadband cable internet access through my local cable company. I get my internet access at a greatly reduced rate by also subscribing to cable. I cannot see subscribing to both DirecTV and cable at the same time - redundant. Further, I cannot see giving up the excellent service I get with my cable company for a satellite company where "Joe Blow" phone tech support is all I could ever get.

Flat out, I do not watch television much at all. I watch the local news and keep FoxNews on as background noise, when the music is not playing. The only show I watch on a normal basis is Big Brother, which is only on part of the year *sigh*. Not worth subscribing to DirecTV for an hour and eighteen minute TV concert - sorry.

ROCK ON FIRE BALL!!!

Well, you may want to start watching your cable stations again David, as thanks to Sue's blog this morning, i found out other cable companies will carry the concert on their 'local' channels. Go to this page, pick your State and puruse the listings to see if your cable company will carry it. In SouthEastern PA, ive got two chances to catch it, so hopefully you'll get a chance as well!

Hi, everybody !

Best source for trees are DVD's, cause you're able to make lossless copies for everyone. It's possible for me to make DVD from good videotapes, incl. chapters & menues. So if someone will send me a tape from the Mexico-City-Gig, he'll get back the tape and the DVD-copy.

And if there are people in community with DVD-bruners, we shall start a DVD-tree for it ... .

Great news, Jen (and Sue!!)!! I just got through saying that none of us knew what other plans Meat had for this concert!! This is, indeed, great news for the day!!

But this is still in limited run. Meat needs promo for the everyone, not just a few. Where is he on the talk shows, news programs, print media, etc???

The album is released just in time for Meat Loaf to leave the country. I know the timing was bad with the release, but maybe someone should have thought about the delayed release a little harder in regards to his promo appearances elsewhere???

ROCK ON FIRE BALL!!!

SueW
08 Oct 2003, 18:13
I agree David that the timing of the release is bad but I think they're making the best of a bad set of circumstances.

From what I remember the original idea was that CHSIB was to be released back in June in US to coincide with the tour, plus they had weeks off during the tour for promo work and things like GMA were already booked.

For whatever reason (and there must have been a good reason) Meat decided not to go with that record company and has now signed with Sanctuary so the album wasn't released until 23rd September which was right at the end of the tour. That meant that they haven't done any mainstream TV but they did play 3 kind of promo concerts for radio stations in NYC, Boston and Cleveland (all key market areas) which even resulted in one normal concert being cancelled (and I made my feelings perfectly clear elsewhere about that fact!!!).

From what Meat Loaf posted on this board a while back, this Australia trip was booked months ago (and does coincide there with the release in that country), plus he did mention back then that they would be returning to US to play either Letterman or Leno - does anyone know if that is still going ahead?

Given all those above circumstances, this DirectTV / cable showing of the concert is not in any way ideal but is better than nothing. Maybe at the end of this month it may be shown on stations like VH-1 too? Also considering another thread is mentioning a 6 month turn around for the MSO DVD, to get this out in just over a month is a big achievement (a lot thanks to Kasim too!).

Meat Loaf's last studio album WTTN was released in October '95 and from what I remember there was just a weeks difference between the release date in US and UK so Meat could do promotion in both countries okay. Now that we have the Internet it changes things totally as people aren't prepared to wait for the album when they can import it which affects sales in individual countries and they can't release it worldwide on one day unless they make several clones of Meat Loaf for all the promotion.

Hopefully before BOOH3 is released all the record deals will be set in place and a good working schedule for promo everywhere will be established beforehand.

I agree David that the timing of the release is bad but I think they're making the best of a bad set of circumstances.

I absolutely agree with both of you .. but what also bothers me is the lack of communication. Meat's already done at least 2 appearances ... on FOX Network News I think ... that I found out strictly by accident after it was too late to see them. When he's on tv in either Europe or Australia, people on the forum do a great job keeping everyone informed about what's going on. Sometimes we just don't get that same level of communication for the shows in the US .... which is very frustrating :(
So maybe he's already done other appearances that we don't know about :?

Getting back to what Sue said ... yes the release date of the cd was very unfortunate. I'm hoping Meat's still going to be on Leno (or Letterman) and maybe they'll be making other appearances after he gets back from Australia ..... but at least we have the Mexican concert. Hopefully it will be on VH1 too :)

I finally saw the show from directtv and all I can say is some lighting sure would have been nice. The show I saw in the uS was very well-lighted, so I am thinking the venue lighting was poor. Half the time you can barely see what is going on.

Very true, Loaferman. I just watched the entire concert for the first time today, and I just kept wishing that I could see Meat better- I suppose the reddish dark lighting was for dramatic effect, but hey, we want to see Meat! Apart from that, I really, really enjoyed the concert; particularly the versions of Testify and CHSIB. It really makes me hope even more for a concert in my state (heck, my quarter of the US- I'll travel for this!) on the 4th leg of the tour.

Well I just watched the entire concert, and didn't have any problem with the lighting at all :) I'm sure it was done for dramatic effect .. and thought it was fine. I commend the people who filmed it ... they did a fantastic job !! And Kasim did a great job with the sound mixing :) My only complaint (if you can call it that) was that it was too short .. and left me wanting more :)) I would just love for them to release the entire concert on DVD some time !!

I just want to let you all know that I got to see the Meat Loaf concert last night. It was on Cable on the Comcast channel CN8 from 9-10 PM last night. It was on for the full hour but unfortunately there were commercials. The show it self was great and Meat and the Band were in fine form. But it seems there is 2 different versions of this show. I hope that we can get dvd of all the songs from the different versions or even better get a dvd of the whole show.

I had a friend record this directtv show for me on his digital recorder, and recorded it to DVD straight from the box, so I'll have a lossless (quality-wise). I'm excited about all the positive reviews, can't wait to see it myself !!

Hey everybody!

I'm from Germany, so I wasn't able to watch the concert in american TV, neither I have a tape-record.
BUT, there were some guys, who made a DVD out of it (or even a video-CD). SO my question:

Is it somehow possible to send a copy to me (Adress and contact: kossmann.m@gmx.de ) ?? I don't know how to pay the costs back best, but if you have any ideas, I would fulfill all the wishes.

Thank u for now,
Martin

Jack/Suslack -- what you saw on CN8 the other night was actually two different concerts. The majority of it consisted of the VH-1 Welcome to the Neighborhood concert, you'll notice Meat still had his pony tail for it, it was done awhile ago. The only parts CN8 showed of the latest concert were Testify and Couldnt Have Said It Better! Believe me, i was bummed too (was watching CN8 as well)!

Thanks Jen, For the clarification, well no wonder the band members changed during the show, it seemed also there were different people on the band during the hour. Now it makes sense to me. Now can anyone help me out and send me a dvd or video of the entire mexico special ie what was on Direct Tv. Its gonna be on CN8 again, so ill look closer to see the differences between the shows.

Hi! I don't have DTV but I believe my tv company did play the same Mexico City concert. I think the only reason they had it on was so people would buy this channel called Music Choice. My mom noticed it was on about 10 min. into it and half of the time they played the same commericals. I did get to tape Tear Me Down, CHSIB, Bat, Paradise, and possibly another one also. It was very nice to see part of the concert again {I went to the Cleve.,OH one}, but they could of played more on TV. Now I don't know if this is the exact same concert on DTV but it might be.
