DID YOU EVER...

Did you ever put your hands in the opposite sleeves of your sweater and pretend your arms were one?

Did you ever count your pocket change and say you had "six moneys"?

Did you ever play Hide and Seek and not come out of hiding until your sibling(s) started crying?

Did you ever use your finger as a gun, shoot your siblings 30 times, and they totally deny that they've been hit?

When playing group games, did you often argue over who would be "the leader" until someone in the group walked out?

Did you ever talk into an oscillating fan and pretend you were a robot?

Did you ever hang your coat on your head by the hood and pretend you were Darth Vader?

DUMB GAMES, WEIRD IMAGINATIONS

Did you ever think it was fun to slide down the carpeted stairs on your butt?

Did you ever pretend a large pretzel stick was a cigar?

Did you ever stop the games you played with your friends to explain what you planned to do next? "Let's pretend like I got magical powers? And say like I shot you, right? And you ran away and then I won?"

Did you ever play that department store game where "if you step on the black tiles, you die"?

MOM AND DAD

Did you ever ride your parents' leg when they walked?

What's the record for the most times you repeated a question to your mom or dad while they were busy talking to someone?

ANTICS AT SCHOOL

Did you ever lay your pencil off the side of your desk and catapult it off as far as it could go?

Did you ever take the remnants of your school lunch and mix them together in a bowl?

SIBLING RIVALRY

Did you ever snitch on your sibling(s) for snitching on you?

During an argument, did you cover ears and loudly ramble "lalalala" to avoid listening to what the other kid was saying?

Did you ever use your hand a shield on the side of your face so your sibling(s) wouldn't stare at you?

Did you ever copy everything your brother or sister said until they started to cry?

What's your record for the most consecutive "Are too! Are not!"'s in an argument?

RANDOM OBSERVATIONS

Ever notice that when some babies fall and hurt themselves, they look around before they start crying?

I think it's interesting how a child can be wailing loudly for a few minutes, and then in a split second, they stop crying and they're happy again. As if something magical happened.

We were just discussing today at work - Mischief Night which falls on 4 November 2003. Does anyone else remember this as it seems to have died out. The only night in the year when it was OK to knock on doors and run away. To move all the garden gates in the street to the wrong houses. To drop bangers in someones pumpkin lantern. And the worst thing we did (which by todays standards is pretty tame) stuff newspapers into the bottom of the old cast iron drainpipes and then set light to it. It used to make a horrendous roaring noise and the residents came running out wondering what the hell was hapening. Oh happy days.

 Sorry to be a spoil sport, but I find absoloutly nothing funny about kids covering someones house with various cake ingredients,or trying to blow each other up with fireworks  .
Around here, mischief night (a cute and cuddly expresion to legitamize bad behaviour) is the night before haloween.Walking to the shop this morning,I was treated to the sight of streets covered in flour and eggs. It's been raining,so the floor is very slippery. If I slipped and fell (which I nearly did more than once) I could have seriously injured my back. But hey, what's personal pain and a few weeks off work as long as these people have their fun  .
On the subject of fireworks,it seems to me that not enough people realise that the rocket was invented as a weapon of war.A firework is nothing more, nothing less than a bomb.A quantity of gunpowder stored in a convenient package with a fuse.Throw in a projectile and you have a grenade.Throwing them at people or firing them at buses is not harmless fun. It's bloody stupid and very dangerous  .
I really believe that they should be taken off sale to the general public and should be reserved only for sale to licenced profesionals.

Rant over.

Completely agree with you Mousie - Having a best friend who lost a finger due to some silly ~~~~~~~ putting a catherine wheel through his letterbox makes you realise just how dangerous these bombs are....

i agree with a lot of what you say. Our fun was mostly harmless but times have changed - in a lot of matters for the worse. We never threw fireworks at anyone or posted them through letterboxes. Mind you we were always on the look out for the local bobby who would have given you a clip round the earhole if he caught you doing anything wrong or dangerous.

well said, Mouse. Last year some kids threw a firework in the street which exploded about six feet away from myself and my son who I was pushing in the pram at the time. Fortunately, he was ok but I've got a perforated eardrum to show for it! Still, they had a good laugh so I suppose that's ok then

Remember the Broken Biscuit Game, you step on a Broken/Cracked Pavement Slab and your Dead :!: we were lovely children then

I experienced the pleasure of having flour and eggs thrown at my house a couple of years ago, not funny!

But if accompanied by an adult, to oversee behaviour etc., then thats all right with me.

I make it a rule now, I do not answer the door if an adult is not in attendance, I turn off all lights downstairs, hallway, door , close curtains etc., and try to pretend I'm not in

I suppose it'll be Carol Singers next, there again same rules should apply.

Back on track - sorry  as above Game

Isn't it sad that something which was years ago pretty harmless has now escalated into vandalism? Local stores here were operating a ban on selling flour and eggs to chikdren and students this year, not thatbit was entirely successful. A friend of mine had her window broken on Halloween by a hail of eggs and flour and God knows what .. the work of a group of students .. while she was feeding her baby in the front room. And as Mouse says, streets that are too dangerous to walk on are not fun at all ..

I remember sparklers, roman candles and apple bobbing .. that was fun and enough :)

Do you remember standing on a railway bridge, and holding your breath as the steam train passed underneath, very rare to do this now, but I wil hasten to add driving down A316 last night and saw the Orient Express in all its splendour, first time I've seen a steam train for a very long time

Omigod!! A deprived child!! :))

Did you never read Winnie the Pooh? It should be every child's birthright :) Pooh Sticks is where two or more of you lean over a low bridge which crosses a small river .. You each drop a stick into the water on the upstream side .. then run across to the other side of the bridge and wait to see whose stick comes through first :)

It's a nice gentle summery thing to do with a good friend, with the sun beating down on your back, and the butterflies flutterbying about, and the bees buzzing about in the flowers on the riverbank, and the little blue kingfishers darting about in the reeds as the river meanders gently along between its grassy banks ... It moves more slowly now because it has grown up since it started as a fast moving stream, all excited and rushing along wondering what's going to happen, and now moves slower because it knows where it's where it's going to and there's plenty of time .. And later you can walk home, dragging a stick behind you as the sun sets slowly over the edge of the 100 acre wood and the sandy floor of the forest getting between your toes, and wondering what's for tea. :))
