View Full Version : Nightmare from ebay! Are my tickets safe????

I bought 4 tickets for Manchester, November, through Ticketline, then knowing I would not be satisfied with one concert, I bought 4 more in JUNE from a seller on ebay and paid almost £164.00 for them for Manchester in December. We intend to take my son and daughter in law as a treat as they have had an awful year.

I received my tickets from Ticketline.

I emailed the seller on ebay for the later tickets, who has ignored my emails. I phoned - the line is dead! I checked ebay to see that the seller had negative feedback for the last two transactions, and was no longer registered!!!

Getting seriously worried, I spoke to my brother who has a database of the Electoral Role, and he gave me the name of the person living next door to the person I sent my cheque to so I rang her.

She was really helpfull, bless her, and I found out that the seller still lives at the mailing address given. I asked her to pass my name and phone number to her, and her partner rang to say that I was not going to be "ripped off".

I hope my tickets are sent - has anything similar happened to anyone else, and has anyone got any good advice? I can't BEAR to miss the second concert - the seats are second block from the front.

Its a very tricky one, but I have noticed that for concerts like this, the tickets start off very expensive - like the ones you bought - but nearer the date, the seller starts to get panicky, and reduces the price to get rid of them. Often they end up going for the same price as through the venue. Obviously its risky.

As for sorting this out, the seller has a legal responsibility to give you the tickets upon payment, so if they don't, get the police involved. Its fraud at the end of the day. Don't leave it too late as you may miss out. The threat of the police will probably be enough to get them to hand over the tickets.

I have also experienced something similar, though on a much smaller scale. I've just bought a Meat Loaf CD on ebay - well I say just, I paid for it 3 weeks ago. The woman concerned has only just banked my cheque, and I have yet to see the CD. She also has some negative feedback and it seems she runs some sort of CD sales thing.

Ebay can be great but it can also be very annoying!

As Choccybat says, to take payment and not send the goods is fraud, and if you paid in June and the cheque has been cashed I'd confirm the conversation by email and letter saying you expect the tickets by Special Delivery or you will be forced to report the matter.

Only other advice I can offer is given against a background of stable doors flapping I'm afraid .. always check a seller's feedback, and look for those who say they will send tickets by Special Delivery, then if you haven't received them within a couple of days of your cheque clearing mention the police immediately. I always prefer sellers who accept Paypal because that gives you some aded security, even if they make an additional charge for this. I always offer Paypal when I sell things on eBay for this reason.

I've had no bad experiences on eBay with tickets luckily .. and the couple I have had have been in respect of small items and are insignificant set against the hundreds of good transactions I've experienced. I do hope your situation is resolved ..

would the police be interested though?
i know the guarda here told us to take a case to the small claims
court when we failed to receive a CD through the post that we
bought out of the buy and sell.
They basically didnt want to know.
also isnt it really awkward with all the laws around the internet and
everything?
i really hope you are lucky though as people who do this kind of caper
really get me annoyed.

I am sure that ebay has a guarantee refund procedure.
You should check this out and inform them straight away if any doubts about a trader.

 That's terrible news Heather :( .
Get on to them as soon as you can.I hope everything works out OK for you  .

I would remind everyone that if you looking for,or have ordered tickets for any of the upcoming shows, make the neccersary arrangments AS SOON AS YOU CAN.There is a postal strike on at the moment in the UK,so I imagine that getting tickets through the post cannot be regarded reliable at the moment :? .Also, make sure there is enough time for the vendor to receive payment and to get the tickets to you.At the moment there are tickets on e bay for Manchester on the 13th with 8 days to go.I don't know how the vendors expect to complete the sale and deliver the tickets in less than 2 days 8O .

At this stage I would definatly recomend looking at alternative delivery arrangments.Companies like Blue Arrow might cost an extra couple of £,but without guarenteed delivery your money might as well be washed down the drain  .
