View Full Version : Thank you SueW for a steady hand
I have not always seen eye to eye with SueW, and may fnd this again, but I speak as I find and would like to publicly commend her for her thoughtful moderation during the past few days when this forum has been rife with profitless speculation about the state of meat's health and the viability of various concert dates.
I also agree with her that to mount a "poll" on whether or not Meat should continue this leg of the tour, when none of us has the slightest idea how ill or not he is currently, is the most bizarre and distasteful thing I have seen in this forum for some time.
When Meat tries so hard to fulfill bookings he does so because he cares about his fans, he carries the weight of the livelihoods of the band and crew on his shoulders, and he is concerned about his professional reputation.
That he misjudged the situation last Monday is human. He has always tried to give 150% .. that's what makes him who and what he is, and even if I wish he had not struggled onto that stage, I still admire and love him for who and what he is. He's a grown person .. he holds himself accountable .. he makes mistakes, human mistakes. I can't see Meat as anything but a wonderful, dedicated person who thought he could fulfill a contract and misjudged it, making a human mistake.
I think only the best of him and his motives. He can and does learn from his mistakes. This one will have brought him up short and really hurt him. To have to leave a show unfinished must have been personally devastating for him. I believe he'll make his own decision on what to do about the rest of this leg of the tour based on what he's learned, and the medical advice he is given without any advice from us, and I'll support him whatever it is. The last thing he will need when he returns to this forum imo is to see admonishments about his decisions, and advice on what to do. Concern, yes. Love, yes. Respect, yes. And there has been so much of that. But that is all he needs to see.
If he is having to wait for the results of tests before he makes a decision, and he is the one who is stuck in hospital and suffering, why can't we who are fit and, apart from a proper concern for him, have nothing more to worry about than whether our tickets will be "good" or not, show him the compassion of some patience?

Yes I wholeheartedly agree with this I have Thanked Sue privately in PM's but welcome the opportunity to do so publicly.
I have felt very sensitive during the last week and at times felt like a lone voice in the wilderness.
Sue has proved herself to be supportive to me as a forum user and IMHO taken good and timeous action within the forums.
I felt that the poll referred to was both tactless and tasteless.
Thank You Sue

I absolutely agree Caryl ....

To me this poll was not the most distasteful thing I have seen on this forum. True, I would call it 'unnecessary' because I don't think anyone would vote for the second option!
At the same time, I don't think the poster meant any harm by creating it.
That is my take on the matter.
I think it is quite obvious we are all under a lot of stress here. Waiting/worrying is hard, but all we can do.
Whatever is to be deceided...will be accepted by most of us, I am sure!

and that is the whole point! can you just imagine how Meat would feel about this kind of discusion, he's been through enough imho, I really don't think at a time like this he's needs us lecturing him!
1/Yes we will all be happy to wait.
2/The vast majority will be extremely happy if he reschedules.
3/But in all honestly if he continues how many are going to hand back their tickets because they don't think he should?
Now that would be the true acid test!
Like many others I have a lot of money invested in the future concerts, but hey like Meat I play Poker too!

...Right Sin, all we can do is wait, on this one!
And the money-part...at the end of the day' it's just money...can't take it with you anyway. Got 'some' invested in this too, but what can you do!
...Change the things you can in life, accept the things you can't, and have the wisdom to know the difference.
Time will tell, we will be accepting whatever is to be deceided!
I just didn't want the the person who created this poll, to feel like she had done 'a terrible thing' ('bad' taste is personal, an opinion), because I do understand Meat doesn't need this, but don't think the poster meant any harm. Think it was his/her way of showing Meat isn't expected to play IF he is not fully recovered. But I like to think 'the best' about people, you know that!

i started this thread to thank SueW for her steady hand in taking prompt action as a Moderator on a number of times out of sensitivity and concern for Meat's feelings should he visit the board and look to see what was going on while he was ill, as well as common sense at profitless speculation.
I do call into question some of the things that have been posted, including the "poll" .. I am not questioning anyone's motives, merely what has been posted and it's suitability and sensitivity, bearing in mind this is a site that Meat visits.
I still maintain that Sue is to be commended, and that what Meat needs to see is concern, love and support, not admonishments or advice.
I suspect not many have more invested in this leg of the tour than Sue and I, and we like others accept that we have to wait until the person who has the most invested, ie Meat, is fit enough to make decisions.

Meat will deceide, when he is ready to do so, and when he does, we will accept it.
In the mean time all we can do, is wait and pray he is getting well.
I also think 'money' is not important in these matters at all! Never meant to say it is.
Next time, I will remember to 'stay out' of one of your threads...sorry!

Edit: sorry, to confuse, should have said, if I don't feel the same! These are 'tense' times!

Mariella!
Mariella this was neither suggested or implied your opinion is just as valid as the next persons. We all know you look for the good and bright in everything and on this subject we are not looking for anything bad we are just looking at the whole effect, and have differnt feelings.
No one has suggested that posts were made with malice aforethought simply they are in the wrong time and the wrong place.
I'm not going to beat this into the ground. I've said my piece and back on topic I do thank Sue for her actions and support over the last week.
Thank-you Sue I should have said it sooner, I hope no-one was offended by my photos. Trust me you would not have wanted to see the deleted ones. I am still coming to terms with being so close on monday and my concern was not just as a fan but on a professional basis. Sue has kept the ship steady and we all should be steering a calm course. there could have been much hysteria and speculation but mercifully this has not been the case. We are all human and flawless and each and every one of us sometimes make a bad judgement, but our hearts are in the right place.
