Meat Loaf's slice of Yuletide cheer

MEAT Loaf will be out Christmas shopping on the Golden Mile this afternoon, relaxing in preparation for his sell-out show at the Odyssey Arena tomorrow night.
"And I'll be wishing everyone I meet a Happy Yule," promised the Bat Out of Hell superstar who has made a dramatic recovery from a heart valve procedure.
And that means Belfast will be bracing itself for this entertainer's outrageous way of offering the compliments of the season.
"He startled fans eight years ago at the King's Hall with a choice of words not usually associated with the Christmas season," recalled promoter Jim Aiken today.
"He is back at his unpredictable best after that health scare and will be one of the most popular visitors here in the run-up to Christmas."
The appearance of Meat Loaf, whose golden oldie I'll Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That) is having a December revival, is the signal for a hectic few days of gigs in the city.
He actually made his first appearance at the Odyssey last night, but has a rule that he doesn't perform two nights running - hence an action replay tomorrow night instead of tonight.
And he is returning to the Odyssey on Monday, December 15, by popular demand and has sold a total of 30,000 tickets for the three concerts.
Tonight the Odyssey will be playing host to Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson in their comedy sitcom, Bottom: Weapons Grade Y-Fronts. The pair appear as no-hopers Ritchie and Eddie scheming to put one over on one another.
"This is the follow-up to our last Bottom series two years ago which included Dave the Parrot," said Mayall today.
"The belching, the vulgarities and the knock-about fun of the original have been retained by popular request."
Tonight at the Waterfront the show is Rockin' On Heaven's Door - featuring lookalikes for dead idols like Elvis, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran and Roy Orbison.
And then on Monday night it's the turn of Fleetwood Mac at the Odyssey - in a sentimental return to the province where Mick Fleetwood picked the name of the rock band years ago.
"I was on tour here with an outfit that vaguely included a lot of the personnel who would make up the new band I was putting together," he said.
"Somebody suggested it should be called Fleetwood Mac and it stuck. A lot of our fans will remember that on Monday night."
