View Full Version : Local radio stations phone in

Was listening to the local radio stations phone in last night. One of the topics being discussed was Micheele from Pop Idol and her weight. The DJ was basically saying because she is overweight she shouldn't be a pop idol and that she would influence teenage girls to be overweight, which I thought was a load of rubbish. He then went on to say that she was cheating because of her size she takes up too much screen space and was basically saying that there werent any large successful people.
A caller rang in and suggested Alison Moyet and he called her a one hit wonder and said she wasnt successful anymore. Another caller then rang in and said Meat loaf is a successful large singer and still releases songs and has hits, which is what I was thinking but was too tired 2 phone in. The DJ then said Id hardly call Meat loaf big time. I personally thought this was a load of rubbish and if Meat isnt big time how come so many of concerts are sold out. I have e mailed the DJ earlier to put my point across about this.
Just wondered what everyone else thought about it

The DJ then said Id hardly call Meat loaf big time
Maybe he should look at this website and see how many people appreciate Meat Loaf's music

I wish I had been listening to this station! I would have been first on the phone and gave him a mouth full!
If this chap thinks that having an over weight pop idol will encourage kids to put weight on, then what about all the stick insects in the pop world? should they not be where they are cos it might encourage kids to be too thin? Bet he wouldnt say it about Kylie Minogue being thin.
Sounjds a complete ~~~~er to me
This was obviously a station in the sheffield area? We should ring him up and challenge him to contact Sheffield arena and see if he can get tickets! Bet he bloody cant.
What a tosser!
Thanks for sharing that Deb.

Yes it was Hallam FM that I was listening 2, so seen as they sponsor the arena he would propably be able to wangle free tickets anyway. When I saw my mum earlier we were discussing about people being influences on other people n what he said on phone in n my mum said it works the same way about slim people, such as Calista Flockhart n Kate Moss being underweight n encouraging yong people 2 be underweight .
It would be good if Meat himself could phone him. If he did I bet he would soon change his opinion n probably be telling him how good n successful he is.
If u want to phone their talk show the number is 0114 2214444
It is on 10pm - 1am Sunday to Thursday
You can also listen to it over the net apparantly

During the first Pop Idol a couple of years back they were debating Rik waller (who disappeared without trace), and Pete Waterman was trying to say he shouldn't be a Pop Idol. He said "if I brought Meat Loaf to you, you wouldn't sign him up" and Simon Fuller turned round and said "yeah, but someone did sign him up and look at him now!"
So the people in the know appreciate him!
Just a DJ host doing a job if he had said she's wonderful, greatest thing since sliced bread how many people would have listened, got wound up enough to phone in?The answer is few and would not have had enough to fill a show.As for if Meat rang him then yes your right as the host will not get any mileage out of abusing Meat, the mileage is in audience reaction to which it seems to have worked.
I listen to a few talk programs theres always a subject leader which the more controversial the more lively the phone in.
Please don't get drawn in just gives the station more ammo if you phone them.
 i would sure give that man a piece of my mind. i mean he can't say stuff like that. he is allowed to say he doesn't like him, but he can't speak for the public, grr.

The DJ might change his tune for 5 minutes, but it wouldn't last :( Last April one of them told me arrogantly that if Meat Loaf himslf phoned and requested CHSIB he'd consider playing it .. well, bless his cotton socks, Meat DID! .. The DJ was suitably ingratiating .. played CHSIB, asked Meat if he'd come into the studio for an interview when he was IN Sheffield on tour (appearing at the Arena which bears the radio station's name!)
Meat said you keep playing the record Nick and I will .. but have they played it since? No .. they have refused. Nick even said "I played it when Meat phoned in .. what more do you want?"
As Ace said, they say these things to get people to phone in .. don't give them the satisfaction of having outrageous comments have the desired effect. It's rewarding bad behaviour, and unless you're representative of and influential on their "target" audience they probably don't care.
Mind you .. I'd love to be able to tell Nick that Meat was going into the studio of a rival radio station for an interview .. :)

I'm guessing this was Nick At Night on Hallam? If that is the case, he has a history of saying things that are completely opposite of what any normal person would think! I seem to remember him saying something once about how people should not be allowed to defend their property with force! Obviously saying this just to get some kind of reaction from listeners. So I wouldn't pay his opinions too much heed.
Incidentally, i think this is the same DJ who meat phoned earlier in the year. Some people never learn! :D

It was Nick at night, so yes it probably was him who Meat phoned. He is trying 2 be controversial lately as the recent topics Ive heard him discussing Fox Hunting, students being lazy and teachers being dossers n not having a hard job to do. Then at the beginning of every week after he has watched pop idol at the weekend he keeps bringing the topic of Micheele being overweight up.

there is no point in saying,i would have called that station up and given him a mouth full.it wouldnt have mad e a bit of difference to the situation.you will never win with djs or radio presenters so dont even think you could.i know it was probably a unfair thing to say but phoning up would have just wasted your time but entertained the presenter.as long as you like the music/artists you like does it matter what one presenter says.all the abuse the presenter would have got from outraged meat fans ,he would have loved it believe me.
Yes it was Nasty Nick who Meat phoned after he told me he'd consider playing CHSIB only if Meat himself phoned .. at least Meat took the wind out of his sails a bit :) I'm sure Vicki's put the clip of the exchange in ROL's Entertainment Suite, but can't put my paws on it at the moment.

I guess Nasty Nick will be on his soapbox again this week about Michelle shouldn't be in Pop Idol now that Sam is out as he was backing Sam to win. Can't believe none of the DJ's have mentioned about Meats concert in Sheffield, instead all they have been on about all week is Justin Timberlake (who I cannot stand) and how fans could win backsatge passes and passes to his sound checks, seen as he is at Sheffield for next two nights.
Debs :D
Well our man called Nasty Nick out at the concert last night :) .. wonderful Meat!!!! You made my evening :)

What happened at the concert at the Hallam FM arena cos Ive just turned on Hallam FM and surprise surprise Nasty Nick is slagging Michelle from Pop Idol off again n then he has just started moaning that last night at the Hallam FM arena Meat was having a go at him. What does he expect????
Debs :D
Meat called for quiet as he had an announcement .. "I've got a message for Nasty Nick the DJ at Hallam FM .. " I missed exactly what he said sadly .. but it was on the lines of I'm coming for you boy .. you can go F*** yourself .. whatever it was it was very popular with the audience :lmao:
The man's a star .. and for things like this he has the memory of an elephant!! You don't piss on Meat Loaf and have it forgotten :))

I think Nasty Nick must secretly admire Meat as he couldnt shut up about him last night. He said Meat had slagged him off at the arena and was constantly moaning about this and that Meat was a has been, which we all no is not true, I think next time Meat is at Sheffield he ought to ring Nick up as with the concert being on 15th Jan this is a thursday n he will be on air that night, I somehow think he has picked with the wrong person picking with meat cos he expects that people will end up agreeing with him and taking his viewpoint. He admitted last night why he is always having a go at large people it is because Nick used to be really over weight himself and has managed to lose weight.
Debs :D
You know Deb, Meat's probably the most famous person this small time nitwit has ever been lucky enough to speak to! He's a tinpot little DJ on a tinpot little station, who'll never himself make the big time. If all you can do to get attention is stick your tongue out and take cheap shots at those who aren't there to defend themselves, it suggests you don't have the charisma and talent to enthuse people that others do to get interest, involvement and a loyal following from their audience.
I liked Meat making a comment on stage rather than giving Nasty Nick the kudos of having just about the greatest rock icon phone in and dignify his soppy show :) Though perhaps an interview with the Star or Telegraph would be good :lmao: And if he thinks that a history of being overweight is any excuse for "having a go" at large people is any form of excuse or justification for his cruel and unnecessary comments about Michelle, he's even ruder and a more arrogant bully than I'd previously thought. Michelle has a fantastic voice .. incidentally has anyone mentioned Mama Cass? She was large and pretty successful too. I'd rather see Meat do something publicly with Michelle than with Nasty .. belt out a quick duet, or an interview where he was photographed with her :)
Imo Nasty typifies all that's tacky, cheap and gratuitously unpleasant in the media these days where rudeness and abuse rule, and talented and skilled communication seem so often a thing of the past :(

I thought he sounded a bully too. His excuse is that by calling people fat or saying that because they are fat they cant be successful is that he is helping them to loose weight cos that is how he lost weight he got that fed up of people commenting about his weight so you thought he would have been sympathetic. Its like me and my friend said earlier today you might be happy as you are and not want to loose weight or you could have health problems such as hypothyroidism or might be on steroids for conditions such as asthma.
I think Meat should give an interview to the Star or even to Calendar or Look North rather than give an interview to Nasty Nick.
Debs :D
Good Lord .. he's really quite loathesome isn't he? People who attempt to excuse their bad behaviour by saying it's for someobody's good really are pretty contemptible .. but I'll drink to Meat appearing on Calendar or Look North :))

I agree. You can't tell by looking whether or not someone has a medical problem that makes them overweight. Anyway its the person inside not the cover that matters.
Interview on Calendar or Look North would be good.
I agree with Meat and all of you about this DJ .... but Rainer tells me this is abuse .. suggesting it is of the same kind about which I have complained .. so I will keep my own counsel about this person now, and leave the thread to the rest of you.
However, I will continue to think of him, and refer to him in my conversations as Nasty Nick .. if it's OK with Meat .. it's sure as hell good enough for me !!!!!!!
You may want to fully quote the PM I sent you Caryl before ripping my words out of its original contents.
By all means, though I don't think I suggested anything that was not the case
Your recent posts regarding Nasty Nick, as an example, are playing in the same stadium as these posts you have complained about in the "Verbal abuse" thread. I know, it's your opinion, but at the end of the day you are insulting Nick. Should I allow this and censor some other message? Do we have a double standard as some people stated before?
Out of courtesy, I have omitted your comparisons of my ability to articulate my thoughts more favourably than another forum member.
I am still happy to agree with Meat's name for Nasty Nick though.
Now - why did I send you this message?
I assumed you wanted all your words quoted.
Not exactly. I've responded to a complaint you've sent me as a PM.

Instead of arguing amongst ourselves about this so called Nasty Nick, we should all be bombarding hallam fm with complaints about him.
How can this man slag off meat all week then stand outside the arena at which Meat is about to play and promote his radio station like nowts been said? two faced or what?
I for one hope this Nick person heard the comments Meat made about him at the show, and I hope Meat rings him next time he is in sheffield.
There, I said it. I cheered when Meat made his threat, the same as most of the arena.
How I wish I could get that radio station on my radio!!!!!!!
Come on guys we all love Meat, we should be defending him and standing up for him, not bickering about being politically correct. Lighten up.

ROTFLMAO!!! Vicki, Where DID you get that picture? I like it the more I look at it.
About the original statement that this Nick apparently made - how he thinks overweight pop idols will encourage teens to become overweight - we all know that's BS. But something else probably goes on all the time: Meat Loaf fans (of any age) look at him and see a confident, sexy, powerful guy whose weight has never had anything to do with his success, one way or the other.

You can listen on the net to Hallam Fm, this Nick bloke is on tonight at 10pm, he is still going on about Meat, think he is milking it for all its worth.
Like respect, some earn and deserve greatness. Some try to snatch a little glory from the shining light of others' greatness.
Meat is one of the former :) And I so appreciated him giving Nasty Nick both fingers on Saturday :lmao:

Didnt hear Nasty Nick going on about him last night, so he might have finally changed his tune. He was on about him Sunday night though.
Instead last night he came out with the ludicrous idea that people who wear glasses should pay extra road tax as they cant see properly. He seems to become even more of a bigot every day.
Yes you can listen to it over the net. If he starts again having a go about Meat loaf Id be tempted to ring in n have a go at him but I know it will only help his ratings

Glad to see the offensive pics removed, these individuals moan about verbal abuse then post pics of an extremley offensive nature, and others sit back and condone it! Well done R for banning vicki for a week, i used to think it was 1 rule for 1 here thanks for restoring my confidence in these boards. DOUBLE STANDARDS SPRING TO MIND!

Exactly :) Real talent and charisma outshine the physical characteristic of weight, plus of course Meat's got a lovely face :) And as Deb said, to phone in now just rewards Nasty Nick's bullying approach and improves his ratings.
Meat's message and gesture last Saturday were perfect. Last April when he good-naturedly phoned in, he offered to go into the studio if NN kept playing CHSIB .. but he has consistently, and quite rudely, refused to play it since that one time .. so who's the real loser here? Each of Meat's shows sold out almost as soon as tickets went on sale. The reception the new songs got last Saturday suggest that many of the thousands packed into that Arena were familiar with them :) And Meat said all that needed to be said on stage :lmao:
... and others sit back and condone it!
I thought it was funny; maybe it was just the mood I was in.

It seems to me that some people just come on here to moan and critisise (cant spell that word der!) and some come on here to celebrate the life and work of a wonderful man. I know which catagory I come under.

Havent heard Nick make any more comments about Meat Loaf this week. Think he must be running scared now. Ill be at sheffield on 15th January n cant wait to hear what meat has to say. When it was the Justin Timberlake concert the other day Nick had people ringing in to give a review of the concert, noticed how he didnt ask anyone to review the meat loaf concert.
