View Full Version : Meat Loaf DVD Petition! What Would You Have?

Even people I know, who I wouldnt necessarily describe as big fans of Meat Loaf, still know a thing or two about the reputation that precedes the living legend. Its not just Meat Loafs reputation for being the man whos powered so many of the biggest selling recordings in music history; but also for being (and to quote) one of the most spectacular performers ever to thunder an arena; staging some of the greatest shows ever staged. Meat Loaf has also produced what are undoubtedly some of the most awesome rock videos; the likes of which an audience will surely never see again.
It is very sad to realise that in the space of over 25 years there have only been a handful of Meat Loafs performances released for home video. (This is the man whose tours have apparently boarded on record book territory); Live In Wembley 82; Bat Attitude Live 85; Bat Out Of Hell II: The Picture Show and Storytellers. But yet, none of these even begin to capture the grandeur of Meat Loaf storm-trooping an arena (unless you count Live In Wembley) but Meat seems so broken, its more sad to watch than anything)
Apparently there are negotiations happening for one of Meats shows with the Australian Symphony Orchestra (taking place February 2004) to be recorded for DVD. All I am asking is that you might consider replying to this topic to let Meat know, to let record company execs know, just how badly you want a big, arena sized Meat Loaf concert recorded for home video. This could be the very last chance (unless some of the fabulous Neighbourhood shows that are degrading in an archive somewhere are one day dug out for us) But what would you like to have on your dream Meat Loaf DVD?
Ok, this is what I propose: a 2-Disk DVD set.
DISK ONE: A complete, un-edited, arena sized show (yes, record the one with the Australian Symphony Orchestra it will be awesome!)
DISK TWO: The Very Best Of Meat Loaf: The Videos; which, must include: Anything For Love; Two Out Of Three; Paradise; You Took The Words; Bat; Dead Ringer; Read Em And Weep; Modern Girl; Rock N Roll Dreams; Objects; Id Lie For You; Not A Dry Eye; Is Nothing Sacred and Couldnt Have Said It Better etc.
BONUS: I think it would be a big mistake if the producers didnt take the opportunity to include Behind The Music on this DVD because that is one very powerful documentary for fans and newcomers alike that shows the kind natured human being behind the onstage persona. Also, how about including a fast cut of Meats TV appearances over the years?
Reckon that it would make for the ultimate DVD package?!? Probably a little fanciful I know; but weve waited so long for something so why do it by half! (Im sure if a record company has anything to do with it - it will be done by half...)
There endeth my ramble!

The other nights Newcastle Gig would make a great DVD. I think they really need to get one of the ones were he does the Wasted Youth Stretcher Bit on DVD with it then leading into Do It.
Heres My Idea
Disk 1
The Full Unedited Concert including - All Speeches, Humourous Parts and Crowd Participation
Disk 2
Special Features Including - The Best Music Videos, Interviews With the Band/Meat, Documentry.
I mean look at how good the Queen Live At Wembley DVD and the Led Zeppelin DVD's Are. I really think a Meat Loaf DVD would Kick Ass.

it has to happen, but again the australian show with orchestra will be different - not a grand arena show that we all want to see.

Definately agree that there should be a full concert DVD including at least the videos from CHSIB (ie CHSIB, DIST & MOS).
Also think that some effort should be made to produce a DVD of Meat's music vids as the vids for singles from the last 3 albums have all been good. Different labels may have the rights but surely something can be worked out!!!

Ewan, you really described the ultimate Meat Loaf DVD. I would pay every price. Also what jcmoorehead suggested (The Full Unedited Concert including - All Speeches, Humourous Parts and Crowd Participation ) would be great, because all the parts between the songs make the show something special

This DVD should really be released. If you called it Meat Loaf: The LAST World Tour or something like that it would be cool. Also, the concert included should be his return in Dublin. Not only because I was there ( :D ) but because the concert rocked and it was Meat's return.

i agree this is what we need something special to commanite him by he is the true king of rock and all the greats have somrthing like Queen Led zap and everyone else its time meatloaf had his i think the idea of one done with the australian orchestra would truly be something special the the extras sound great
so were do i put my name to this great idea
I would definetly buy this dvd collection, but if it were to happen, it should be done after bat III. also, in a post earlier, there should be a Box Set of Meat Loaf, all B-sides and music videos, and surpising stuff. You know, after Meat's musical career is over that is. but this dvd you are talking about sounds like an excellent idea, but both these things i said Meat himself have to agree or disagree upon. and i will be proud no matter what he does. :P 1 man can only do so much.

First off, let me say the thought of WTTN shows degrading and eventually being lost forever sickens the hell out of me. I love that record, and would absolutely love to see a few of those shows.
Secondly, I love the idea of a "complete" show- while I do love all the ML concert videos/DVD's, it always bothers me to know that " the whole thing" isn't there. I mean, who decided what's not important? We want every bit of Meat that we can see and hear! The Storytellers DVD and CD is a perfect example- there are differences between the two of them, some stories are longer on one, or comments occur in different places on the DVD than the CD. Plus, people who went to the taping say there were more songs recorded than appear on either- how frustrating!
I sure do hope a DVD "package" is made- I'll be there to buy it, baby!
