what do I do to my norton internet security, to enable my Kodak Easyshare e mail system to work? I know Norton is blocking it at the moment......
thank you
dottie

if norton is bringing up a pop-up window saying that kodak easyshare is trying to access the internet and asking "what should i do?" there should be a drop down box with the option permit on it. if not i'm not entirely sure cos i only run norton antivirus not the full blown suite.

Hi all!
I have a problem with pdf-files. In most pdf-files with text, the "e" is filled. I mean the "e" is filled by 100% view by 150% but NOT by 125%.
In some pdf-files, the text is unreadable in 100% 'cause it is blear or just unreadable.
Does somebody know a solution for this strange problem? I use the Acrobat Rreader 7.0.7.
Thank you for your help

Hi, I keep getting a pop up message telling me that 'AOLSoftware.exe' file is corrupt. I've tried both of the registry repair programs that I have 'Registry Mechanic' and 'Registry Repair' but, none of them seem to have solved the problem. Is there anything else that i can try. Please help.
Paul
Try running a full virus scan first of all. One or two viruses have taken advantage of the cr*p AOL process handling to attach themselves to AOLsoftware.exe.
If that returns it as clear, rename the file to something like oldAOL.ex1 and download/reinstall a new version of AIM. If all goes succesful and it then runs, delete the original file you renamed.
Can anyone help me please?
Basically I have to email a song to someone but send it as an mp3. The file is currently a .wma file and I don't know how to convert it into mp3 format. I tested it out on a friend and emailed it to her but she said that it turned up as a windows media file.

Gerry - If R's suggestion of reboot doesn't work, check you don't have a shift lock button (can sometimes be labelled Shift Level 2) if you do press that, if not, check you haven't got anything stuck in the keyboard near one of the shift keys!

Hope you can help me.
I bought myself a dolby sorround headset (Trust 751B).
First problem: On my DVD-Player are no receptacles for front/rear/left/right/center/subwoofer.
I put the front and rear plugs in some other-called receptacles. But i can´t find a sw and center receptacles.
The other problem:
The subwoofer doesn´t work well, all i can hear is a loud grumble. Even if nothing is plugged in.
And now, some time later, the sw and center doesn´t work at all, i just hear the sound of the dvd, but very quiet.
Hope somebody can help me.
R.
Pic of the undersite of my MSO DVD (1):
http://img307.imageshack.us/img307/4363/scannen7kk.jpg
Do you see the missing part of the inner ring (missing plastic)? It broke away because the damn DVD-cover holding and there are already some other cracks in the inner plastic rings!
Should I risk it to watch it again (in PC-DVD-Rom and TV-DVD player) or should I buy a new copie? It isnt as robust as it was with the broken away part (the right quarter of the inner ring). Because there are 2 inner plastic rings, one one the upside one on the underside, there is still some stability.
What do you think?
If your dvd player has no digital->analog converter (= 6 connectors for 5.1) and if this headset hasn't any digital inputs and an integrated digital->analog converter, you won't get this to work.
Hope you can help me.

Well, this seems like the pefect opportunity to promote an amazing, totally free graphics editor. If you're familar with Linux, then you're familar with the GNU project and probably familar with the GIMP. It's a powerful freeware application that I recommend to anyone, especially if you're having trouble getting a hold of a real copy of Photoshop. I wouldn't rate it's features over Photoshop, but it's certainly close, and a bit more powerful than the PaintShop Pro products. A Windows version is available, and the link is: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html Of course, you can take or leave my recommendations. :)
Download both the runtime enviroment and the program itself. It's a very simple install process, and very useful. By the way, I'm a huge Linux freak, so you might want to keep that in mind. I'm running on Slackware right now. :)

What is the difference between IMAP and POP3? (I don't even know what those terms mean).
Which is better?
How do I authenticate an outgoing mail server?
And where did I leave my sledgehammer?
http://www.mcgill.ca/ncs/products/email/imapvspop3/
or
http://tis.tulane.edu/How_To/Configuring_E-mail/POP3_or_IMAP.cfm
or
http://email.cityu.edu.hk/faq/popimap.htm
explains the differences between the two ... as for which is better, that really depends on your computer setup and your own needs.
Outgoing mail authentication depends on the SMTP server setup,
try this google search for more info ...
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=outgoing+mail+server+authentication&meta=
Your sledgehammer is in the fridge.
AAAARGH!!! NO.
I am a computer illiterate technophobe. I don't understand any of that. I don't know what the terms mean, I don't know what the abbreviations mean, I don't understand the sentences. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND.
I have a website. It came with email addresses. I need to set one up to actually use, because the host will not allow email forwarding on a hosting service with provided emails. It wants me to autoconfigure Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express for either IMAP or POP3 Access. I don't give a flying **** about meanings at this stage, I just need/want one that works. Once I figure that out, then I might move on to authentications. And if I configure that website email to my Outlook Express, won't that wipe out the email I have in my Outlook Express? I don't even know the difference between email and webmail.
Thank you for your help anyhow, Andy. :-)

When you start a new thread...after the title and body of the message...you have an option down below to include the poll.
Try to start a new thread in testing area and look below this message box and look at all the options and you should see poll option.
I hope this helps.

Cheers Mszee!
My speakers are now playing up. Any sound that comes out of them begins to echo for a couple of seconds. I've tried chaing the speakers but it just sounds the same. Do you know what the problem might be. Thanks
Speakers on your PC?
Sounds like a problem with sound card - built in audio...might be some process running on your PC and could be two processes running at the same time fighting for the use of the speakers...
Try to re-boot your computer and see if it helps - doesn't sound like a problem with speakers to me...

The chatroom works as a part of the site. Basically, if you can view the site, then the chat is working at this end and and problems will be down to a setting on the flash installation on your PC.
As everyone's setup is different i am afraid i can't be of much help with that.
Maybe try this option:

My poor little computer is sick. According to that crash report thingy, Microsoft reckons I have W32/Gaobot.worm.gen.u - Win32/RBot.3eu!Worm, whatever that is (Yes, I have Googled it). I have scanned with a zillion and one anti-virus products, none of them can find anything wrong. Yet there is obviously something very, *very* wrong. For example, random programs (eg my media player) start themselves, declare they are not responding, attempt to access the internet, and then crack the sulks and shut themselves down again.
Any ideas? Please?
Had this on my pc a while ago ...
http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2004-011316-4140-99
worked for me, as did the manual removal instructions linked off the above referenced page.
Thank you Andy. Tried that this morning, and Symantec claim I don't have that worm, the didn't see a thing. I tried restarting safe mode to run the scans from there, and my safe mode no longer exists. Along with my task manager.
However, it seems to have gone to earth this evening. God knows. Still thinking sledgehammer.
Thanks again. :D
He he he... me again.... :D
Righto... so, at the start of building a web page... there is a large string of gibberish, before the <html> tag and stuff that follows. I understand most of the "stuff that follows", surprisingly.
What exactly is the string of gibberish? What does it do? The only explanation I can find using Google (admittedly, my search skills aren't great) states that the string of gibberish tells your text editor what the hell you are doing.
Which is all well and good, it would be handy to understand it so that I can remember it, though.
Anyone??
Can you post the string of gibberish please?
I suspect it is all the crap that Frontpage and other WYSIWYG editors stick in tgo pad out pages.
Erm, I hope not, because I'm just typing away in Notepad.
Gibberish:
< !DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd" >
It doesn't have spaces in it, if I don't put them in though, the whole thing vanishes when I hit post.
In the meantime, I've found a heap more learners places, some say I need that gibberish for something called CSS later (whatever the hell that is, and I haven't got that far and I'm not planning to until I have this bit right), and some sites say not to bother.
Which group are lying to me?
Thank you, Chris. :D
I am sure Chris will reply to you better but let me see what sense I make out of this and no, you don't need to understand it in order to use it...but this is a header in HTML that browser might use it to validate that it's valid HTML and valid web page.
The string of gibberish tells your editor that the file you're editing is an HTML file and gives it enough information to validate it if it wants to.
CSS is Cascading Style Sheets and although not really complicated will take a little more explanation. If you're writing a lot of similar web pages CSS helps you keep them looking and feel the same way without typing pages and pages of the same code. To make this simple you save certain often used tags in a separate page with .css ending and refer to it in your html page.
And that's how far my knowledge goes and no further...sorry...the rest will have to wait for Chris.
The string of gibberish tells your editor that the file you're editing is an HTML file and gives it enough information to validate it if it wants to.
Does my Notepad want to validate it? Does this effect anyone else, or is merely to try and make my already confused computer less confused?

Can I just cut and paste? I may have failed that in kindy, but it seems to work now.
And that's how far my knowledge goes and no further...sorry...the rest will have to wait for Chris.
You have done well, thank you.
In the meantime, I've killed off the gibberish for now, I figure I can add it in later if I need it, right?
If your page works without "gibberish" it only means that that gibberish came from the html editor that you're not using in which case, it is, indeed a gibberish as far as I know.
If the page truly used CSS heavily, you wouldn't have been able to copy and paste it with it working properly - most of the code would be outside of the HTML page source code of which you're using and references to that code would have done nothing to help you. If you were able to copy and paste and it works - there is no reference to CSS page in the code that you've used.
Why do I keep talking about stuff I know nothing about? Oh yeah...I can't sleep....sorry for any misinformation I might have given here and I am sure I will stand corrected in due time.
Erm, I hope not, because I'm just typing away in Notepad.

Which group are lying to me?
Thank you, Chris. :DThe "DOCTYPE" line tells the browser, what DTD (=Document Type Definition) the current page is using. In a nutshell, the DTD instructs the browser how to display certain tags in the code. Look here: http://www.w3.org/QA/2002/04/valid-dtd-list.html and here: http://www.w3.org/QA/Tips/Doctype

For example, with the exception of Black & Gold, all different themes on this site are basically nothing more than different style sheets.
Thanks, R. I was just trying to explain to a person who just learning about HTML.
But now I have a question. Although I have oversimplified definition of CSS, I thought that .dtd is more important for XML file than HTML.

I presume you are listing item using the <DD> code to precede each item. If so, between the <DD> and the list item, insert an IMG SRC code pointing at the image you wish to use as your bullet.

A friend from the forum sent me a dvd which he recorded from a particular Meat Loaf wembley 82 vhs.
I was very disappointed that the sound and the pictures dont run synchron, the sound is about 10 sec ahead of the pictures. The weird thing is that it´s getting worse with the time, the beginning is still synchron, but it´s getting worse with the time. (I think the sound may be a wee bit faster than the video, that´s the only explanation i can think of).
Any ideas how I could fix it?
(please speak in a language a dummy like me understands)
Help - Lap Top screwed I think!!!!!!!! Going so s........l...............o................w
I have a something called a Common Folder which keeps opening up everytime I switch my lap top on, I have to wait to click out of it, and then wait again for it to clear. Description square, white infill, top left hand corner Common, and its completely empty, haven'taclue where it appeared from, and its really bugging me...........
I have done all the obvious checks, cannot get rid of it.........
Apart from wiping the system clean is there anything else I can try......
Try here Dotster
http://www.velocityreviews.com/forums/t185204-common-folder.html
very informative - glad I'm not the only one with it
followed click Start click Run type in msconfig ok start up - done that - should show Common Folder - uncheck it - but I cannot see it.
opens up to System Configuration Facility green dot on normal start up load all devices, drivers, service.
rather worried about clicking on something that might wipe my system anyway.
its gone!!!!!!!:D phew - something else I've learnt to do::bunny: D
Does Google e mail have any smilies? I cannot see any........
I don't believe it does Dottie.
Right can you help me please:evil:
Since downloading Explorer 7 I do not have the luxury of File/Edit etc at the top of the page to use for copying and pasting, so how do I do it now, have tried right clicking to highlight but then ther isn't anything to copy click, or paste click, hope you understand what I mean.......
Use the keyboard shortcuts CRTL+C/CTRL+V or right click in a free part of the tab area (left to the homepage symbol) and turn on the menu bar. ;)
Quick solution is to press your Alt key and the menu bar appears with the usual options in it,
:D thank you lovely people,:D and sorry I'm so thick, well Ellis thinks I am, he screamed at me when I asked him what to do:evil:
Any ideas on how I can find out someone elses Hotmail password? (this is a revenge, btw, a little thug who shall remain nameless stole my password along with a heap of my hard earned cash, and I wish to return the favour)
That's a no, then, is it?
answered my own question its okay now.......:)

When I type something on the net (on a forum, e bay, or even in a search engine) the page automatically refreshes, making it impossible to write anything.

Sounds like you have something nasty in your computer. Do you have a 'restore point' on your computer to just before problems occured? I have automatic restore points created and whenever something like that happens to me then I just hit the button and problem solved.

Okay.... I suspect this might be a virus-y type problem, any assistance gratefully accepted...
My daughter's laptop was working fine yesterday, today, the keyboard won't work. We managed to sign in by opening the onscreen keyboard, but can't type anything on the keyboard, and when she's tried to sign into Facebook by going to the browser history bar to select the right URL, it won't allow her to click on it, either by using the mouse, or by using the cursor key to select (because the keyboard isn't working!)
I thought maybe trying a restore point would be a good idea, but I've got the same problem trying to open the backup and restore centre - it won't allow me to highlight anything and keeps closing the program list as soon as I move the cursor from where it says program list.
Her virus protection's run out, so it's probably riddled with all sorts, and I don't even know where to start sorting this out... can anyone help? Please?
Not much help I know, but ...
Have you tried plugging a USB keyboard and/or mouse in? If you get the same problems with the external devices obviously that won't help much, but if they work then you can start looking at fixing it either via a restore point or by reinstalling drivers and antivirus gumpf or even a full Windows reinstall.
It's either a virus or it's the laptop hardware that's knackered.

The external devices both work, the keyboard and the mouse, and there doesn't seem to be any problem with the websites we couldn't access before. Does that mean we need to check drivers now, or can we assume the hardware's knackered? What would you recommend as a next step?

Restart the laptop. When it starts it will/should display, briefly, something like "Press DEL to enter setup". It might say F10 instead of DEL, or possibly something else. When that appears hammer on the DEL (or whatever it says) key on the laptop keyboard. If it goes into the setup screen (usually a blue screen with text menus) then the keyboard is working, and the problem is in Windoze. If it doesn't then either you weren't quick enough hammering on the keyboard (switch off then on then try again), or the keyboard is broke.
Assuming the DEL thing worked, switch the laptop off for a few seconds, unplug any USB keyboard then turn on again and let it start normally this time. Using a mouse click on the Windows START button then choose Control Panel. When that opens double-click on the System icon, then when that opens click on the Hardware tab and then the "Device Manager" button. This will give you a list of the hardware in your laptop or connected to it. Halfway down the list is "Keyboards" with a "+" sign to the left. Click on the + and it will show what keyboard(s) you have connected. If there's nothing there then Windows hasn't seen your keyboard. If there is one then make sure it's not disabled (right-click on it then choose "Enable" from the popup menu). I doubt it is this (on my laptop it's not even possible to disable the keyboard) but it's worth checking.

If it goes completely across the screen, and remains even if you move windows around, then it's hardware (probably the connections to the LCD panel).

Dave's right. It IS a software problem. Had this happen to me a few years ago with my work laptop.
It's easily fixed by getting the hardware that the software runs on repaired.

Get the cover off it and get it cleaned out, Acers can be prone to collecting dust so a careful once over of the internals with the hoover should make a difference.

Thanks for that - it's such good thinking, why didn't I think of it?! ...I've got an Acer 33-something (I think...it's not with me atm) - regularly becomes ridiculously hot.
Its main two problems however are that the screen doesn't always work properly (it's been like this pretty much most of the two years I've owned it), but if I wiggle it a bit, it's ok...
and more recently the connection where the power cable is plugged in doesn't always recognise that the cable is there - more wiggling - this time of cabling - to get it working again. With a battery life now of 8 minutes, this is a particular annoyance! (I will buy a new battery...but when I have the money to do so! [all my money is eaten up by DIY activities atm!).
On the topic of laptops and IT help... is there an easy way of adding extra hard drive space to my laptop without needing an external hard drive (which it isn't really practical to lug around wtih me)? On one side there's a plastic thingy that you can pull out that looks like a frame with lots of square 'windows' in it. Someone once said this space was there to add extra components... is this so or were they just making it up?

The "plastic thingy" will be a slot for a PCCard or ExpressCard. You can get solid-state drives for those, but expect to pay lots for not many GB.
Depending on the make/model of laptop you might be able to add a second hard drive internally. For example, my Dell has a removable DVD drive and I replaced that with a hard drive that fits into a caddy that directly replaces the removed DVD. I hardly ever use the DVD so this works for me. My old IBM laptop could accept two such drives, so I had a DVD in one and hard drive in the other.
Otherwise, the existing hard drive can be swapped for a larger one. Doing that of course means moving over the operating system and programs, and that doesn't always go smoothly even though there's software around to automate it.
Dave
p.s. if you need to buy a hard drive, I think RJ will have a spare one soon from his laptop that's about to become junk ... :lmao:
A major disadvantage of laptops is limited space. There more you put in it, the more issues you might have to deal with (more weight, overheating etc.).
In some cases it's possible to put a second HDD into the DVD drive slot (of course you'd have to remove the DVD drive).
You could also try to replace the current HDD with one that has a higher capacity.
Edit: Dave was faster. :D

Aah! I see. Thank you...I've been wondering a while what I should be doing with this (you know the laptop probably came with instructions but when have you ever known anyone read instructions for any pc?). However, your advice below sounds better.

Ok...I will look into this. A second hard drive is ALWAYS a good thing (from experience, computers need a second one of most components; they always 'die' at times of greatest inconvenience!) - thank you very much indeed!
Otherwise, the existing hard drive can be swapped for a larger one. Doing that of course means moving over the operating system and programs, and that doesn't always go smoothly even though there's software around to automate it.
Computer-related things rarely go smoothly...but again thank you, this is a useful back-up

Thank you to you also! Aside of the screen and power cable issues - which on the face of it aren't preventing its use, just irritating (and I know I should probably get fixed) there isn't a lot wrong with the laptop - but I like to take up most of the hard drive space with music.
I've learned the lesson that no matter how ridiculously vast the hard drive size at first appears, it will never ever be enough.

If you don't necessarily need a laptop, buying a desktop PC is a good decision. They usually last longer and you can easily upgrade the HW. I've never had any issues with desktop PCs, except for a Fujitsu Siemens machine that had a defective fan and repeatedly switched itself off due to overheating. My laptop died all of a sudden with a bang, a darting flame and a lot of smoke while even my oldest desktop PC is still running fine.

As well as the cable you will need to tell the laptop to switch on the VGA connection. Usually (well, always in my experience) they have 3 settings - laptop only; monitor only; both. This is usually controlled by the keyboard (normally FN + one of the function keys). You'll need to either stare at your keyboard for an icon that looks like it will do the job, or read the manwell.
The other option on many laptops is a video output (usually a round socket looking something like a keyboard or mouse socket). However VGA is the better option (simpler, much better picture). Finally, newish laptops will have a DVI connection which is better than VGA.

No. Though I'm in danger of needing one soon, that is if the laptop doesn't kick the bucket first :-( Not only do I have a flickering screen (hence desire to connect thing to TV...that and ooooh big sized screen!), I have intermittent charging (which I pray isn't the motherboard) and my right-direction arrow key came off yesterday...they're tricky beggars to get back on!

This I can cope with as it works the same way as when the work laptops are connected to the projector at work ... so this may be simpler than I was expecting it to be!

Ooh I have one of those video output things then - it's yellow and yes looks exactly like a mouse or keyboard socket, except for having a picture next to it that looks like an S in a box that has an arrow coming from it.
Finally, newish laptops will have a DVI connection which is better than VGA.
*heads to google*...

Well, that's cool until you discover that not all full-hd tv-sets or monitors support this, as these devices only accept hdmi input coming from a video device, ie. a blu-ray player. :rly:
it has Blu-ray. Hmmmmm.. will try it out later. Thanks for the heads up!

You can get an HDMI converter though, can't you?

little problem with my DVD player:
Is there any way I can switch the playable format from region 2 to region 1 dvds?
I read about this a few years ago, that there was some way, but it was only doable a few times, after that it would get stuck on the last played format. Or am I mixing that up with pal and ntsc?
If I cant switch it back that wouldnt be a big problem as I have two different players connected to my tv, so I could use one for R2 and the other for R1 dvds.

You can change DVD regions on a normal PC DVD drive up to 5 times after which it will be locked (check the properties of the drive in Windows). Stand alone DVD players do not normally allow DVD region changes, at least they are unsupported by the manufacturer as far as I am aware. However there are often all sorts of gimmincky ways to override region codes. It depends on the manufaturer usually (codes / button combination on the machine or on the remote) to override the region setting. You'd have to Google your model/make probably to see if it can be done.

ah, so what i read about was only about pc drives....
when i insert the region 1 dvd it plays without a problem. so i guess there wasnt anything switched from R2 to R1. Do I still have to be careful now not to screw up my dvd drive?

As Andrew says, look up your make/model on the interweb to find out how to make it permanently multi-region. You'll almost certainly find a method which will likely involve typing in strange key sequences on your remote control, turning the machine off and on, standing on your head, and sacrificing an mlukfc moderator.

Nah I don't think you can mess up a DVD player that easily. The unlock codes are usually only to make the thing play region free. But if you are not using any unlock codes I wouldn't worry.
Interestingly I think Blu Ray drives are much more restricted when it comes to region encoding, but then the regions are different too.

thanks for the help guys, managed to switch one of my players to multi region.
It's a shame that I just had to press 3 keys when I was thinking aobut spending money on a new multi region player

Should just do that and buy a new DVD player :))
I wondered if somebody could help me with an Outlook Express 6 problem I have?
Yesterday it crashed and closed. I've now lost one of my folders (plus all my deleted items disappeared at the same time but that's no problem). I've looked under tools / maintenance and storage and I can see the folder with the .DBX extension so I know it still exists. How do I get that folder back into Outlook Express so that I can read the e-mails again?

If you go back to a 'restore point' doesn't that re-frig the computer without losing any files or folders?

Most blu-rays are region free.
Could anybody suggest the best way to backup e-mails and e-mail addresses? I had to get a new hard drive yesterday and I've lost all my e-mails and addresses.
Is there a file on my computer that I can backup in case it happens again?
Depends what you use as your email client.
Outlook Express.
I think I may just send any important e-mails to my Gmail account so that I have another copy.

here's another question for ya:
I wanna export my itunes library from my notebook to my new desktop pc. Now, there is a function called export library, but I'm pretty sure it only copies the file locations and not the songs themselves.
Is there any way I can use my old library on my new computer without copying every single song and change the directory on every single entry in the library?
iTunes is the devils work.

Yes, sync your i-pod with your old library, then connect it to the new pc. You can sync with up to 5 computers at a time, I've used three of my connections so far, what with hard drives/motherboards dying on me... Make sure you enable the 'use as hard drive' thingy on the summary page when it's syncing too, that'll make life easier for you.
My DVD drive works but it only reads CDs. It wont read DVDs. Can someone help? i tried google and everyone is too complicated. I need a step-by-step thing a monkey can understand.

Pack up PC in a box
Take to local friendly electrical retailer
Drop box
Buy a DVD player - preferably one with one BIG button marked "PLAY"
Get someone to plug it in for you
Sorted

This may sound silly but do you have either a DVD software suite installed or have a DVD codec downloaded for media player?

It's not getting that far. If the disc is being rejected, then either the disc is faulty, the drive is faulty, or Wario is putting the discs in upside down ...
Thanks everyone for not being of any help :D

If you'd read my comment earlier (about the drive being dead) you wouldn't have bothered.
When you put in a CD or DVD, the drive itself does a quick check. If it then ejects the disc, that check failed. i.e. the drive thinks that instead of putting in a CD or DVD, you put in a piece of toast. So it's nothing to do with any software drivers or codecs or applications or the design of your backpack.
The laser is probably dusty. You could try cleaning it if you can get at it. Or, easier/cheaper/more likely to fix it, just get a new drive and swap it.

didnt really work. Itunes tells me that I can only sync with one library/computer at a time, and that I'd have to delete everything that is on my ipod to sync with this pc.
Would it help if I exported the library from the old one and imported it to my new computer? But that way it's still have the wrong paths for every file...
Or you could try ripping the music from your iPod onto the new computer!!

In the past I've always used Sound Forge 7 for editing any music files I may have. After my recent hard drive disaster I now have Sound Forge 10 and something that is really irritating me.
Whenever I save a file, it always adds an extra half a second or so of silence to the end. This is obviously a pain in the arse if one track is supposed to flow into the next. I've tried using different file types and always get the same problem.
Any ideas?

Really hope someone can help me here ... does anyone know how I can find a list / log of all the times (say for the last couple of months) that my pc has been turned on / logged on (and if possible turned/logged off again)??? I'm sure it must be possible, I just can't think what I would do. I'm on Vista, by the way.

Really boring reason ... sent laptop to be fixed. It wasn't fixed, they said they couldn't see what the problem was. Supposed to be monitoring when I use it and when it has a problem - which is most days, hence part of the reason I don't bother with it so much anymore. I keep forgetting to log it... but I think I remember which days I had probs just not which times. If I get them wrong tho, it would appear to laptop repair shop that I'm making it all up rather than just being scatty.

 Does anyone have any idea how to unfreeze a laptop?
Joanne was on it before and it froze.
She brought it to me, who had the bright idea of closing the laptop.
I opened it again and there are lines all over the screen.
Nothing on the laptop works at all.
If I can close it down it might restart OK, but i've tried everything (the power button, escape/tab/delete) but nothing is working.
Cheers.
Take the battery out. Leave it a while to cool down, put the battery back in and restart it.

Worst case just unplug it and leave it till the battery goes flat, which could be a matter of an hour or two or could be days (he adds helpfully)
